THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

Well, you’ll never believe the conversation I just had with E…

[eerie music] Jada, where’d you go? Damn it. Told her to stay put. Hell is she?

Dimitri? And he’s the one worried about missing Rolf’s yellow submarine. Dimitri, where are you?

[soft footsteps]

I’d like to know that too. You know, all the rest should be this easy.

Detective Hunter, what a lovely surprise.

I bet. You know, I was just on my way to go search for you and your partner in crime, but lucky me, you saved me the trouble by loitering right by the hospital. ,::,

Loitering? Who’s loitering? I’m just admiring the immaculate landscaping.

Save it, Stark. What do you say we pick up where we left off?

[sighs] I was so hoping my mom’s car would be out there when we got back and I’d help her unpack it and she’d be on my case about homework.

Hey, hey. She could still be on her way. Just try to stay positive, okay?

Still stuck at the same location. It could mean everything or it could mean nothing. She could be anywhere, in the hospital, or God knows where.

Hey, it’s okay. It’s okay.

Oh, Holly, there you are. Any sign of your mother?

No, I haven’t heard from her. But, EJ, I think I know where she’s at!

So the accident brought on the labor?

You morons drove me off the road.

And we’re sorry. We’re terribly sorry. He was driving. Um, listen, we have been praying that you’re okay.

[pants] Do I look okay? Oh!

Huh?

Oh, the baby, oh.

Um, okay, listen, listen, listen. Your baby is gonna be just fine, okay? There’s, um–there’s, um, a lot of built-in cushioning, yeah.

That’s not what I mean.

Oh?

I mean–oh– the baby is coming.

[moaning]

You had the baby here?

Yes. Right here.

Okay. I don’t understand. Where’s the baby?

Dimitri. Dimitri has him.

Dimitri has the baby?

Yes. He has my son.

You had a baby boy?

Yeah… a beautiful baby boy. And… Dimitri has him now. Oh, my God, Eric. Dimitri has my son.

[somber music]

You don’t understand, Melinda, that I have to do this. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. Eric has a kid about to be born, and I just–I love him too much to keep that from him. And maybe it would be different if I had a kid, but I don’t. I don’t have a kid to give him. I don’t and I never will.

Wow, when you make your mind up about something–

I know what I need to do and I’m gonna do it now. I’m gonna find Eric and I’m gonna tell him the truth.

Uh…

What the– wait a minute. I-I know you. You’re Dimitri Von Leuschner.

Yeah. And you’re Sloan Petersen, one of Salem’s top attorneys, which is a very, very good thing because, well, I need your help.

[dark music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

And what do you need my help with?

And whose baby is that?

The baby–wait, you’re Melinda Trask, the DA.

Relax, Mr. Von Leuschner. I am no longer Salem’s top prosecutor. But I am still a officer of the court, as is Ms. Peterson here, so answer our question. Whose child are you in possession of?

[unsettling music]

The baby belongs to my uncle.

Your uncle?

EJ DiMera.

You know where your mother is?

So Mom and I have the same location-sharing apps on our phone.

And?

When I checked, I was able to see where her cell last pinged.

Let me check that. Why am I now only hearing about this app?

I forgot I had it, okay?

No, young lady, it most assuredly is not okay. Your pregnant mother is out there God knows where and you’ve been withholding valuable information all this time.

[tense music]

Hmm.

Nicole? Hey, hey, stay with me. Stay with me, okay?

I’m trying. I’m sleepy.

I know. Okay, no, no, just try to focus, all right? Did Dimitri say where he was taking the baby?

Hospital to get him checked out.

Okay, so why didn’t he take you with him?

He was scared to move me.

Right.

What’s wrong?

It’s nothing.

Eric, tell me. Oh, my God. You don’t trust Dimitri, do you? You don’t trust Dimitri with my baby.

Nicole, calm down, okay?

No. How can I be calm when they took him from me?

Wait, wait, wait, “they”?

Yes. Leo. I mean, he didn’t take him. He delivered him, and he stayed with me until you got here. But he’s–he’s the one who told Dimitri to take my son to the hospital.

Nicole, sweetie, you are so amazing and brave, and I have newfound respect for you and all women for going through that. But I know that you know I’m right. Little Leo Junior needs to have all those fingers and toes checked out by a medical professional, meaning…

I can’t.

He will be back in your arms before you know it. You have my word.

Your word?

Okay, I know that’s not good for very much, but… we’ve come this far together, haven’t we? And, obviously, I want your baby to be okay.

[sighs] And he can’t be trusted either, can he?

[sighs]

Detective, look, this is really just one big misunderstanding.

Really? I misunderstood your boyfriend physically assaulting me right before the two of you stole my car and fled the scene?

Well, maybe not that part.

Hands behind your back.

Look, if we talk this through, I’m sure we can come up with an amicable resolution.

The only resolution that I’m good with is you and your violent-ass boo under lock and key. Hands behind your back!

Gee, Detective, at least buy me dinner first.

[sighs] I am losing patience here, Stark.

Well, you know what? I’m losing patience too, because, lady, you are bossy and controlling, and you remind me of my mother, who’s also bossy and controlling, which is triggering me, and it’s getting my adrenaline pumping, so…

[dramatic music]

Going somewhere?

Mayor Price, may I have a word, please?

Oh, certainly, I always have time for one of my constituents, especially now that I’ve been lawfully elected by the good people of Salem. How may I help you, Mr. DiMera?

Well, for starters, you can fire your new district attorney.

[ominous music]

But Holly wasn’t withholding anything. She said she’s sorry, all right?

I take it this juvenile delinquent is the reason why you’re not out there checking to see if your mother is at the location this app pinpointed.

For your information, my uncle told us to wait and let him check it out.

Your uncle?

Eric. He’s out looking for Mom as we speak.

Oh, I’m glad that Leo stepped up for you and your baby.

Yeah, I am too. I mean, he was really kind and caring, but he’s still a fugitive from justice. I mean, so is that guy Dimitri. And, oh, my God, they both are. And, Eric, why did I let Dimitri take my little boy? And what–what if he uses him as leverage? And what have I done? What? Oh, God.

[line trilling] Who are you calling?

I’m calling Rafe. Salem PD’s are already looking for Dimitri, but I just need to let them know that he has your son.

Oh, my God.

[breathing heavily]

Ow! Will you trust me when I tell you that Dimitri would not have gone through with killing Detective Hunter? He has a good heart, I swear.

A good heart? The man is a hardened criminal.

No, no, he is not. You don’t know him like I do. He’s– he’s just somebody who goes after what he wants, all right? And he happens to be an excellent boyfriend. He’s loving, attentive, generous.

Oh, for God’s sake. We don’t give a damn what kind of man the dirtbag is. We just want to know where the hell he is.

Really? both: Yeah.

After you just insulted him, after you just insulted me by insulting him and then insulted me again with your condescending and disdainful tone? No.

Leo, listen to me. Look at me. This is a very serious situation, and you are in very serious trouble if you don’t cooperate with us. And you will be severely punished. Now, the commissioner is giving you a chance to save yourself. So what are you gonna do? You gonna tell us where your partner is, or are you gonna take the fall for him?

This is EJ DiMera’s baby?

And Nicole’s.

Correct on both counts.

But why in God’s name do you have the kid?

My boyfriend and I got into an accident with Nicole.

Oh, God.

Oh, my God, is she okay?

I don’t know. She was conscious when I left, but barely. After the crash, she went into labor. We helped her deliver, and then I promised I’d get this little guy to a doctor.

So then why didn’t you go directly to the hospital?

I did, the place was crawling with cops. I couldn’t risk them recognizing who I am.

Aha, and so you came here instead. Why?

Well, my boyfriend, Leo, says that you have quite the penchant for getting people out of, shall we say, sticky situations? Apparently you helped him get out of a couple of jams.

Yeah, but nothing like this. I–

[sighs] Dimitri, look. You’re on the run from the cops with a baby who belongs to one of the most prominent families in the state. I mean, what is it that you think I can do for you?

Honestly, I don’t– I don’t know. I don’t know why I’m here. Leo just gave me your address saying that maybe, maybe you could help. But this kid needs a doctor. I need to find Leo and we need to get out of town.

And we understand.

[mysterious music]

You do?

Of course we do. You were trying to do the most responsible thing in a very difficult and complicated situation. So you can just calm down. You’ve come to the right place.

Why should I fire EJ? I just appointed him DA.

Because his first order of business in office was to prosecute my wife.

As well he should have. Gabi Hernandez DiMera murdered her ex-husband Li Shin in cold blood.

That is not true. Gabi is innocent. Look, I am Gabi’s husband. EJ is my brother. Don’t you see what’s going on here?

See what? What exactly am I supposed to be seeing, Mr. DiMera?

EJ is using the office that you gave him to get revenge on me and the woman I love.

[dark music]

Why haven’t we heard from someone by now? EJ’s been gone long enough to have made it to the location.

Hey, try not to worry, okay? I bet uncle Eric’s already found your mom. I’m sure she’s fine.

[exhales] Oh, God, I hope you’re right.

Please, oh, come on.

[line trilling] Nicole, it’s not going through.

No, there is no cell service. Dimitri and Leo tried calling an ambulance and there was no signal.

[both sigh] Eric, I’m scared. And my–my precious little boy, I mean, what if Dimitri doesn’t get him the help that he promised?

Nicole, it’s okay. I’m here now. And I promise you, you and your baby boy are going to get the help they need.

I have a son?

So what’s it gonna be, Stark? You gonna tell us where Von Leuschner is or you want to do five to ten at Statesville?

Why does it have to be either? And why are DVL and I being persecuted like this? We are the heroes in this little saga. We rescued a woman in distress and her innocent, newborn, very adorable baby, whom I happen to have brought into this cold, cruel world.

Wait, what woman?

A baby?

I suggest you start talking, Stark.

You mean it?

[fusses]

You’re really gonna help me with the baby?

I’m sure if my colleague and I put our heads together, we can think of some way to do that, yes. So just give the kid to us and we’ll take it from here.

Okay. Okay, that’s great news. I-I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.

Oh.

I guess this is goodbye, little guy. My Leo has a soft spot for you, and now I suppose so do I.

[soft music]

Oh. Oh.

Have a good life, okay?

Dimitri, hey, wait! Grab my phone. It’s on the table.

Why do you need your phone?

Why else? To call the police. Melinda, my hands are kind of full here. Either hand me my phone or call Commissioner Hernandez yourself.

Can you just hang on a sec? Let’s just take a breath and just figure out what we need to do first.

I’m sorry. What are we figuring out?

[fusses]

What a sweet little face. Hey there, little fella.

Melinda, if we don’t call the police, we at least have to take him to the ER. Nicole wasn’t due for weeks. He’s premature. Come on, what are we taking, your car or mine?

Dammit, Sloan, just– can you just chill out for a minute?

We don’t have time to chill, Melinda. I mean, look at him.

[cries]

He’s so–he’s so tiny. He’s so fragile. Look, he’s our responsibility now. He needs us.

You’re right about that. He does need us. More specifically, he needs you.

What is that supposed to mean? What are you saying?

What I’m saying, Sloan, is this baby could be the answer to your prayers.

I’m so glad you’re here with me, Tate. I don’t know if I could get through this without you.

I’m always here for you, Holly. And, um, about earlier–

Yeah?

Well, right before your stepdad walked in, is it just me, or did it seem like something was about to happen between us?

Like what?

Like, I don’t know, um, a kiss or something?

Nicole, sweetheart, are you all right? I was so worried.

Well, I’ll be okay, I think.

Of course you will be, darling. Of course you will be. I’ll see to that.

You had the baby. A boy?

We have a son, EJ.

[laughs] Where is he?

[sinister music] What are you not telling me, Nicole?

[cries]

Can somebody please say something? What the hell happened out here tonight, and where is my son?

So you and Von Leuschner got into a car accident with Nicole DiMera? Why didn’t you call an ambulance?

We tried. There was no cell service.

That’s why Nicole couldn’t get in touch with EJ.

What else happened, Stark?

So, yeah, shortly after the accident, uh, Nicole went into labor and I personally delivered her baby, with flying colors I should add. Proudest moment of my life, which is why you should be cutting Dimitri and I some slack.

Where are Nicole and her baby now?

Last I knew, Nicole was still at the crash site.

You left her there alone with the baby?

No, of course not. Eric Brady showed up. I left her with him.

Was the baby all right when you left?

Well, Nicole was concerned about him because he was born premature.

Well, I’m sure Eric will be able to get them to the hospital in time.

Oh, he doesn’t have to.

Wait, why?

Because my Dimitri took care of that. He took the baby to University Hospital before Eric showed up. I bet he’s still there with him looking after the little guy.

You can’t seriously be thinking about me keeping Nicole’s baby.

Why not?

[fusses]

Oh, you’re joking, Melinda.

[malicious music] God. You’re serious?

Do you believe in signs, Sloan? Because Von Leuschner showing up here with that baby right after your adoption fell through sure does feel like one to me. Just think about it. If the adoption had gone according to plan, you would be resenting your husband with a bouncing baby boy right about now, his son. You said it yourself, that is exactly who that baby you’re holding in your arms is, Eric’s actual son.

Yes, Eric and Nicole’s son, not mine.

And you and I are the only two people in the planet who know that to be true.

Oh, except for Dimitri Von Leuschner, who just dropped off this baby. You really think he’s not gonna remember giving us him for safekeeping, Melinda?

You heard the man. Dimitri is desperate to skip town with that weasel of his boyfriend before the cops catch up to them. He and Leo Stark are leaving Salem for good. So if you decide to keep this baby and raise him with Eric, no one will ever be the wiser.

And just how did you and your lovely wife manage cost my new DA his old job?

I’d rather not get into the particulars.

Uh-huh. I’ll just bet you wouldn’t.

Okay, look, Mayor Price, I know how incredible this all sounds. I’m aware of that. But EJ is trying to railroad my wife. He denied her bond and had her sent to Statesville while awaiting trial. I mean, what kind of kangaroo court system of justice are you allowing in this town?

Now hold on there, Mr. DiMera. Now I resent your implication.

Okay, okay, I-I am sorry to have questioned your leadership. But I just want my wife to get a fair shake. And I sincerely doubt that that can happen as long as EJ is in office.

Mr. DiMera, I-I appreciate what you’re going through. I know all too well what it’s like to helplessly watch a loved one go off to jail. But if I intercede on behalf of your wife, it might be construed as Salem’s new mayor interfering in a murder investigation to aid her police commissioner sister.

Mm-hmm. So that’s why you’re not gonna help out Gabi? You’re afraid of how it’s gonna make you look politically?

I’m sorry, Mr. DiMera, my hands are tied.

Okay, well, keep me posted. Still no sign of your car yet, unfortunately.

Von Leuschner probably ditched it already.

Yeah, and since it’s your personal car, there’s no way to track it.

Well, here’s hoping we have better luck finding Nicole and her baby.

That little guy and his mom, they have to be okay.

Well, for you and your boyfriend’s sake, you better hope they are.

No, because that’s the cutest little human I’ve ever seen. Can I make my one phone call now please?

Better make it count.

[eerie music]

Dimitri?

Leo, thank God. I was so worried. Where the hell are you?

[sighs] Would you believe I got myself arrested?

Look, I could be totally wrong, but… it kinda felt like we were just gonna kiss.

Are you serious right now?

What did I say?

My pregnant mother is missing and all you can think about is trying to get some?

What? Holly? No, no, no.

Wow, here I thought you were trying to comfort me as a friend.

I was. I am. Holly–Holly, no, you’ve got it all wrong.

I heard you were some wannabe player, but this, this is beyond gross, Tate.

You don’t understand.

I think you should leave now.

If my nephew said he was taking our son to the hospital then what the hell are we doing out here? We need to get there now.

Wait, wait, wait. EJ, wait, listen to me. You can’t move her. She still could have internal injuries.

I don’t give a damn. I need to get to my baby. I am feeling fine. I’m getting stronger every minute.

You heard her, Eric. Actually, you know what? I just want to say, thank you for waiting with her until I arrived, but I can take it from here. You go home, look after your wife, and I’ll– I’ll tend to mine.

[somber music]

[both groan]

You wanted to give Eric a son. Well, here he is.

Yeah, except there is a real flaw in your plan, Melinda.

And what is that?

That Dimitri told Nicole that he is going to take her son to the hospital. The second she is able to, she’s gonna be looking for him. She’s probably looking for him now with EJ DiMera’s help.

Fair point. What if there’s no baby for the DiMeras to find? What if Dimitri managed to get the baby to the ER and the child didn’t survive? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

What are you saying?

[dark music]

Nicole’s baby was born prematurely after a horrendous car accident. The mother has a long history of not being able to carry a baby successfully to term. This could merely be the latest in a long line of maternal tragedies for Nicole Walker DiMera.

Melinda, you know how much I cannot stand Nicole. But what you’re suggesting, I… well, I wouldn’t wish that upon my worst enemy. I just–I don’t think I could do that, not even to–to her.

Well, will you stop thinking about her and think about this baby? Do you really want Eric’s child, a Brady, being raised by EJ DiMera? That man is a monster.

How exactly would we pull something like this off?

Okay, you know that money that we were gonna use to fund your private adoption?

Yeah.

Um. Instead, well, I’ll use it to pay off some shady doctor to say that Nicole’s baby died, and in reality, he’ll check out the bundle in your arms and make sure that he’s okay.

And you just happen to have a corrupt doctor on speed dial?

As a matter of fact, I do. Remember that–uh, the guy you defended, uh, for engaging in insurance fraud? Oh, God, what’s his name? Um.

It’s, uh–

Pierce!

Pierce, yeah, you prosecuted him.

And you defended him brilliantly, got off with a slap on the wrist. That sleazebag even managed to maintain his medical license with privileges at University Hospital, no less.

You really think that that Pierce guy is gonna go along with your plan?

Our plan. Yes, I do, and I think that the good doctor would be thrilled to receive an unexpected windfall for providing some unorthodox concierge medicine complete with a death certificate for Nicole’s baby. Then a couple of days later, I’ll show up with your adopted baby.

You just came up with all of that now?

I do my best thinking under pressure. Look, I promised you a baby, Sloan. And I don’t renege on promises, especially not to one of the only friends I have in the world.

Do you really think we can get away with this?

I know we can. This is the miracle that you have been waiting for, Sloan. You just have to decide if you want to receive it or not.

Man, I totally read that situation wrong.

You think?

Look, Holly, I know you won’t believe me, but I’m sorry. I really am sorry. Um, I’m gonna go. I hope your mom is okay.

[breathes heavily]

I should really be going. Good night, Mr. DiMera.

[foreboding music]

I’m not done talking to you yet.

I’d remove your hand from my arm if you don’t want to draw back a nub.

Sorry. Just making sure that, uh, there’s nothing else that I can do to help change your position, perhaps a sizable donation to your next campaign?

You wouldn’t be trying to bribe a public official, now would you, Mr. DiMera?

What I am trying to do is to get you to see reason.

You know what? For your sake… I’m going to act like this conversation never happened. Good night, Stefan.

You’re making a mistake, Paulina… one that you might live to regret.

Oh, oh, so now bribery doesn’t work, you’re just turning to threats. Oh, you really are a DiMera, aren’t you?

You’re damn right I am. And so is my brother. And unfortunately for you… you just backed the wrong one.

Oh. Hi. Did you find out anything?

Afraid not. I checked with the ER, the neonatal unit, everywhere. There’s been no sign of Dimitri or our baby.

[soft music]

Oh, my God, EJ. Where could they be?

Don’t worry, darling. I promise you, we’ll find out where that bastard has taken our baby. And he will soon be in your arms… our precious little boy.

[cries]

Arrested? But this is–this is bad. This is very, very bad, Leo. Rolf is scheduled to depart on the submarine any minute.

Save yourself, Dimitri.

What? Leo, what are you saying?

I’m saying you have to go without me.

Oh, Eric. Oh, I’m so glad you’re home.

I’m just sorry I’m late. I got a bit tied up.

No, that’s okay. Did you see your dad?

Yeah, I did, and there’s a lot that’s happened since then. There was a car accident–

You can tell me about your day later. I wanna tell you some of my amazing news.

What news?

I heard back from Melinda. And guess what?

[cries]

Our baby boy was born tonight.

There, there, little one. It’s all gonna be fine. Yes, it will. Because your new mommy made the right decision, and you’ll be home with her and your new daddy very soon.

[cries]

[sighs]
