[Holiday instrumental]
Liam: Then you want to fold this little part down here so it doesn’t go over the edge. Hold it like that. And now tape. Yes! Do you wanna put it on? Put it on, right there, like that.
Douglas: Wrapping’s kind of like arts and crafts.
Kelly: I love christmas!
Douglas: Me too! When does santa come?
Hope: Oh, he arrives very, very late when munchkins like you two are fast asleep, just like your sister, beth, in the other room.
Liam: That is true. However, you are allowed to leave him something. I’m thinking, maybe like a sandwich. Some sprouts, some avocado. He likes that.
Hope: Really? Do you have that on good authority?
Liam: Oh, my sources are impeccable.
Douglas: Oh, you know what’s extra special?
Liam: What? It’s hayes’ first christmas.
Steffy: Aww, I love that.
Finn: Hayes’ first holiday season has to be immortalized.
Steffy: Have I told you lately how much I love you?
Finn: Yeah.
Steffy: Mm.
Finn: But not nearly enough.
Steffy: I love you.
Finn: I love you back.
Steffy: This is my favorite holiday season, especially now that my mom is home.
Liam: Hm…
Steffy: I’m sorry sheila can’t be part of our celebration. I know it’s really hard for you.
Finn: No worries. I’m good.
Deacon: You know, I shouldn’t even be here. I mean, if hope or brooke find out that we’re still seeing each other, I could lose all the ground that I’ve gained.
Sheila: Then, why are you here?
Deacon: Merry christmas, sheila.
Sheila: Wow. Thank you.
Deacon: Okay. So uh, mission accomplished. Take care of yourself.
Sheila: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. So you’re planning on seeing hope and beth this holiday, I’m assuming?
Deacon: Fingers crossed.
Sheila: Likin’ your chances?
Deacon: Yeah, I mean, I think it’s something that hope wants, so uh… so, yeah. What about you? Did you ever hear back from finn?
Sheila: No. Not even an emoji.
Liam: Isn’t it pretty?
Kelly: Yeah, pretty.
[Laughter]
Douglas: You’re a good wrapper, kelly.
Hope: You are. And I think it’s so great what the two of you are doing: Picking out presents for boys and girls less fortunate. It is a really kind and generous thing that you’re doing.
Liam: Yeah, it is, you’re both amazing.
Douglas: It’s important to share.
Hope: It is. And speaking of sharing… who would like to share some christmas cookies? Because I know grandma’s baking some cookies right now at the main house!
Kelly: Yay, cookies!
Liam: Yeah!
[Chuckles]
Douglas: Let’s go!
Liam: Alright! Go ahead, go with douglas.
Hope: Don’t eat too many.
Kelly: We won’T.
Liam: Yeah like, like 40 tops.
Hope: No– uh!
Liam: Just saying.
Deacon: Finn not getting back to you, that’s gotta hurt.
Sheila: Yeah. You know what? I’m– I’m not giving up. Finn’s just– he’s caught in the middle between steffy and now, of course, taylor’s back and I’m sure that she’s giving her two cents. But you know what? I’m done waiting.
Deacon: What are you doing?
Sheila: You’ll see, just– just don’t step behind me. Okay? Just don’t step behind me.
[Ringing]
[Steffy sighs]
Steffy: You know why she’s calling. Go ahead, pick it up.
Finn: Sheila.
Sheila: Finn! Look, I’m sorry, I just– I had– I had to reach out to you. Oh, um… I see steffy there. I’m sorry, this probably isn’t a good time.
Finn: She knows that you want to see me over the holidays.
Sheila: Was that too much for a mother to ask of her son?
Steffy: In this case, it is.
Sheila: Oh, come on, steffy. Just– can you give in here, just a little bit? I mean, it’s christmas. Just a– just a few minutes and then– then I’ll leave.
Finn: It’s– it’s just not going to happen. But, have a good holiday.
[Sighs] Hopefully that’ll do it.
Sheila: “Have a good holiday.” How can I do that when I’m being kept away from my family?
Deacon: I’ve been where you are. “Go away, deacon. You’re not worthy. Don’t let the door hit you in the–” it sucks. I’m sorry you’re going through this. After my dvt blood clot…
Hope: I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. I love christmas eve at eric’S. Surrounded by family, everyone getting along. Eric played piano and all of us singing carols.
Liam: Yeah, well, it’s cool because you know, you grew up with all those holiday traditions and now our kids are going to as well. And you know, for me, it was different. It was like, you know, christmas was a small thing. It was mostly just my mother and me. And don’t get me wrong, I loved it but I kind of dig that our kids are going to have this like full family experience, which leads me to my next question.
Hope: If it is about my dad, I’d rather not go there right now.
Liam: I’m not trying to go there right now, I promise. I just–
Hope: I love you and I know you’re going to feel, however you are going to feel about this. But I do want you to know that I have every intention of seeing my father over the holidays.
Sheila: Steffy was standing right there. That’s why finn was so cold to me.
Deacon: I’m really sorry.
Sheila: What is wrong with that woman? I– where’s the christmas spirit? How about a little– a little compassion, huh– I don’t want your pity! I don’t want your tissue because I don’t need it!
Deacon: Sorry, I just– I feel bad. Your son rejected you on christmas. Sheila, it’s not just steffy, you know, finn’s a grown ass man. I don’t see him stepping up for time with you.
Taylor: I couldn’t help but overhear some of that conversation. You were talking to sheila.
Finn: She wants to see me over the holidays. And I told her that’s not possible.
[Hayes fussing]
Steffy: I think that’s hayes. I will be right back.
Finn: Everything okay?
Taylor: Yes. Yes. Um, how about you? Sorry, occupational hazard, get used to it.
Finn: Hmm.
Taylor: I’d like to know how you feel about not being with sheila over the holidays.
Finn: I understand steffy’s position, all of the reasons why she can’t be around.
Taylor: Right. I– I understand that but I’m just asking about you. How do you feel? What do you want?
Finn: Doesn’t matter.
Taylor: It most certainly does.
Steffy: He is so cute. Ugh. False alarm. He was asleep by the time I walked in. Did I miss something?
Taylor: Well, I was just asking finn how he felt about not seeing sheila over the holidays.
Steffy: We’ve talked about it. He’s fine.
Taylor: But he’s not necessarily fine with it. And– and there are complex emotions involved in this.
Steffy: What are you getting at?
Taylor: Okay, you have children of your own. You know firsthand what it’s like to have that instant connection when you see the child that you’ve carried for nine months for the first time. That– that feeling never goes away. And for many, neither does the urge to want to connect with their biological parents. Finn sublimating that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Steffy: Mom, where are you going with this?
Taylor: I think the two of you should seriously consider inviting sheila over for christmas.
Steffy: What?
Itchy?
Hope: Deacon and i already worked something out.&
Liam: Okay.
Hope: He is going to come over here before eric’s but you don’t have to be here. You can go up to the main house with the kids or you can drop them off and go spend some time with bill. I’m just– I’m trying to be respectful of your position on all this.
Liam: And I, and I appreciate that. And you know, the place I’m coming from. I just didn’t want you to get hurt. That’s all.
Hope: No, I know and I love you for it. But it’s my risk to take.
Liam: So we’re over, deacon, for now?
Hope: Oh, let’s stop talking about it, yes please–
Liam: Awesome. Cool because I have a small pre-christmas gift I want to give you.
Deacon: You wanna get out of here, you know, go for a walk or something, get some, some fresh air? You know, it might do you good to have a change of focus.
Sheila: You know, I really don’t think that’s possible because all I can think about is the heartless way I am being kept from finn and hayes. I gave birth to finn. Steffy wouldn’t have her husband right now. She wouldn’t even have that son of hers if it weren’t for me. You’d think she’d be rolling out the red carpet thanking me for her life.
Deacon: Ah, that for damn sure isn’t going to happen.
Sheila: But just tell me that hope did not invite you to the forrester mansion because i don’t think I can handle that–
Deacon: Relax, relax. Just gonna be me and hope at the cabin before the family festivities.
Sheila: You’re going to get to spend all that time with hope on such a meaningful day. You’re probably even going to get to hold beth. I’ve just been frozen out of my grandson’s life by steffy. I swear, if she weren’t married to finn!
Deacon: You have got to keep the faith, alright, that eventually steffy’s going to come around with a little time and you on your best behavior.
Sheila: That’s what this is? This is not a joke here, deacon. This is real. I– I know the things that I did in the past were were terrible but I am not that person any longer. And if steffy would just give me an opportunity to show that to her, to prove that to her. And of course, now taylor is back in town, giving her professional opinion. I’m sure I may never get to see finn again, let alone for christmas.
Steffy: Mom, are you serious right now?
Finn: You think I should spend time with–
Steffy: No. Way.
Taylor: Just hear me out. I–
Steffy: There’s no way i would ever allow sheila into my home, near our family.
Taylor: I understand your reaction. I do. I had the same one when I found out that sheila was back. But I just heard her voice on that phone and this is a complex situation. It requires strategic thinking.
Steffy: She shot you!
Taylor: But there are other factors at play here like finn. You’re a remarkable man and the best possible husband for my daughter but I don’t think it’s healthy for you to deny the very real and understandable feelings you have for the woman who gave birth to you.
Steffy: I can’t believe I’m hearing this. Have you forgotten how unstable sheila carter is?
Taylor: That’s exactly why we have to manage this situation very, very carefully. And I believe that the first step in doing that is inviting her to be with her son on christmas eve. We do it every night. because we’re seeing it through their eyes. Right?
Hope: The excitement on their little faces.
Liam: Yeah. There’s no energy quite like a child’s energy on christmas. But that’s not wha– but right now, I want to pay tribute to my wife. My beautiful, talented, inspiring and oh, so sexy wife!
Hope: Wow, that is quite a roll you’re on.
Liam: Well… you’re the light of my life. You’re my pride and joy, you’re my purpose, what can I say?
Hope: I feel the same.
Liam: And one of the cool things about christmas is it just– it brings you right, right here, right to the forefront of my brain.
Hope: How?
Liam: Thinking of others, giving of self, love of children and family, forgiving people who may or may not deserve it. And of course, hope for the future.
Hope: Oh, that was so sweet. Thank you.
Liam: Thank you for putting up with me all these years.
Hope: Well, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Kids sure lucked out having you as a dad.
Liam: Well, that may be but you– maintain eye contact. Gotta keep it cool, keep it cool– are the beating heart of this family.
Hope: What is this?
Liam: I dunno… open it and find out.
Hope: Oh, liam. It’s beautiful. I love it. Thank you. I love you so much.
Liam: I love you, too.
Hope: Thank you.
Steffy: You’re seriously advocating we invite sheila over for christmas eve? That doesn’t make any sense! How could you allow that psychopath near my children? She shot you!
Taylor: Okay, you know the old saying, “keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Besides the inferred wisdom to tread cautiously, there is also finn to consider. It is– it is not his fault that his birth mother has done horrible things or that there is a natural, human instinct to want to connect to the people that made you. It’s a longing that is compounded by the holiday season and this is finn’s first time knowing who his biological mother is. And she’s right here in arms reach! So let her come. I’m not saying open the door completely. Of course not. Just a little bit. It’ll go a long way.
Steffy: Towards what?
Taylor: I want to look sheila in the eyes. I want to study her, her mannerisms. I know her tells. And I will know if she’s reformed or if she’s as dangerous as ever.
Deacon: There’s not much worse than being alone for the holidays. I’m sorry things didn’t work out for you and finn.
Sheila: If I say something, you promise not to make fun of me?
Deacon: Promise.
Sheila: I was really hoping for a miracle. Because I believe in those. And I was just hoping that there’d be some kind of magic that would melt you know, steffy’s cold, cold heart. Just let me see my son for one day.
Deacon: Come here.
[Ringing]
[Gasps]
Sheila: It’s him. It’s him. Finn. Are– are you okay? Why– why are you calling me?
Finn: Steffy and i changed our minds.
Sheila: About what?
Finn: The holidays. Well, christmas eve.
Sheila: Are you saying…?
Steffy: Ironically, it was– it was my mom who convinced me to extend the invitation. Not for the whole day but if you would like to come over on christmas eve and spend some time with finn, you can do that.
Sheila: You’re not joking, right? You wouldn’t do that to me.
Steffy: No, I’m– I’m not joking. It was my mom’s idea.
Sheila: I didn’t expect– I– I never could have hoped… yes. Yes, I– I would love to come over there tomorrow. And thank taylor for me and– and thank you, steffy, thank you so very much. I’m going to get to spend my first christmas with my son.
