THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[ Breathing heavily ] You could bail and go warn your mom about Brennan right now. What’s stopping you? [ Grunts ] [ Exhales heavily ] I’m not quitting. Sorry to disappoint. [ Grunts ] [ Both groaning ] Leaving so soon? Yes. I have someplace I need to be. You know, you haven’t been cleared to go home yet. Let me call Lucas for you. Please don’t do that. I don’t need another lecture from him telling me how to live my life. Is everyone warning you to stay away from Agent Brennan? How’d you guess? Well, not to pile one, but maybe that’s not such a bad idea. Miss Spencer. I must say I was surprised when my receptionist told me you wanted to see me. What can I do for you? Are you positive Valentin is on his way to Steinmaur? I saw him board the plane myself, bound for Geneva, surrounded by a team of WSB agents. And you swear this isn’t some sort of smokescreen? You’re not secretly pulling strings to allow Valentin to escape? I give you my word. Believe me, no one wants Valentin behind bars more than me. In fact, if it was up to the WSB, he’d be dead. I just want to make sure they don’t have to worry about him showing up and kidnapping Charlotte. There’s no chance of that. In fact, given his long list of crimes, I’d say he’s going away for a very long time. What if the people who want him dead decide to use Charlotte as leverage to get at Valentin? How do I protect my daughter? In news that will shock no one, Lulu is late. Again. I’m sure she’s gonna show up. That’s great, except that I need her now. She keeps changing the password on my log in for “security purposes,” but I know she’s just doing it to mess with me. So why don’t you call her and ask her for the password? And give her the satisfaction? Never. Okay. Glad to see we’re all acting like adults today. What was that call about with Home & Heart? Oh, a slot opened up, and I was gonna book it until I found out our spokeswoman took off to Bensonhurst. Ugh. Typical. Every night I pray that that woman leaves our house. She finally does, it creates a problem. How long will she be gone? At least a few days, I think. [ Scoffs ] Well, a little notice might have been nice. What’s gotten into your mother? Yay! Okay! He’s here. Ned, we’ve been looking everywhere for you. It’s not like I’ve been hiding. What’s going on? Maybe this is none of our business, but Emma and I are worried about protecting the family crypt. And after putting our heads together, we’ve come up with a plan to save it. I’m at work, Ava. No, I know, but this is an emergency. Look around. Do you really think that your situation qualifies as an emergency? Yes! Your father must have left you some kind of inheritance. He didn’t. But that cannot be right. No, no, Julian had amassed quite a fortune by the time he passed away. Maybe it’s stashed in some offshore account? Not that I’m aware of. But even if it was, you couldn’t pay me to touch that money. This is a big surprise. What’s the occasion? I just had a run in with Ava. Did she say something to upset you? No more than she usually does. I’m sorry. I’m not. Because I just learned some very valuable information that might just solve all your problems with Ava. You have a way to help me with Ava? Let me hear it. Well, Ava has been having money trouble ever since she lost access to the Cassadine estate. Yeah, I know she downsized to that apartment. Yes, but things are much more dire than we thought. She told you this? No. She came to Mom, and she practically begged her for a loan from the Cassadine trust. So, she went to Alexis for help? Yeah, well, my mom she runs the estate. What did your mom say? Well, she said no, obviously. She’s not gonna help Ava after what she did to Adela. But, Dad, Ava showed her hand. She is desperate, and she is overextended. Now is your chance. You have to You have to fight to get custody of Avery. I get it. You are a man of integrity. And you would never use your father’s ill gotten gains for yourself. But would you do it to help your favorite aunt? Mnh. Aunt Tiffany needs more money like she needs a hole in the head. Lucas, I’m the aunt right here. [ Sighs ] Look, if if I’m being completely honest, I know nothing about any accounts, onshore or off. Okay, would you just check anyway, please? Maybe it’s under one of your father’s many aliases, you know, like Derek Wells. That was one of his favorites. Oh, good old Derek Wells. [ Chuckling ] Right. It’s not for me, Lucas. I need to be able to pay off my debts if I can support my daughter. I’m sorry. I can’t help you. But if this is truly about Avery, you don’t need to worry. Sonny will make sure that his daughter is always taken care of. Being poisoned really sucked, but I think all this well intentioned advice might be worse. Carly, an assassination attempt meant for Brennan almost killed you. I know that, okay? And how I move forward is up to me, no one else. Just hold on. No. I was lectured by Felicia, Lucas, and Jason. If one more person tells me how I can and cannot live my life, I think I’m gonna scream. I just wanted to fix your collar. [ Sighs ] There. All good. Thank you. Once Valentin is locked up in maximum security, it’s likely he won’t even be allowed visitors. And that’s enough for the WSB? I would think so. At Steinmaur, the WSB can get to Valentin any time they want. So your daughter will no longer have any value to the Bureau. So my daughter is safe, then? Very. Ironic, isn’t it? I imagine that’s what Valentin wanted all along. Except for the getting caught part. Well, he made the fatal mistake by having a child in the first place. Something he cared about more than himself. Well, you chose this job. I guess it’s something you’ll never have to worry about. Vaughn: [ Laughs ] Nice moves, Jacks. Yeah, you liked that? Yeah. It’d be even more impressive if you hadn’t injured yourself in the process. It’s fine. I’ll walk it off. Maybe you should let me take a look at that. Yeah, you and all your medical training? I’ve had enough to check out a bum ankle. Let me see. [ Gasping light ] Okay. Sorry. You’re alright. Uh, Ma and Grandma said that they wanted to spend more time together, so she went home. I’m so sorry that it cost us the segment on Home & Heart. It’s totally fine. There will be other opportunities. Yeah, it would have been nice if we could have taken advantage of this opportunity. Okay, uh, I have an appointment. Do you two think you could hold the fort down while I’m gone? Yeah, of course. Cool. Alright, text me, but only if it’s an emergency. It’s not like your mother to take off without saying goodbye. Oh, you know Ma. Once she gets something in her head, it’s all systems go. [ Laughs ] You had a fight. How’d you know that? Because your mother makes a Broadway production out of going to the dentist, much less going home to her beloved Bensonhurst. What’d you fight about? Ma and I had a disagreement, that’s all. It’s no big deal. Right. What’d she do? Can we just drop it? Wow. She really upset you. I don’t want to talk about it, okay? Now, if you’ll please excuse me, I have a fort to hold down. Righty o. I’ll leave you to it. Thank you. I’ll see you at home. [ Sighs ] So, you know how Drew is trying to demolish the Quartermaine crypt? I may have heard it mentioned once or twice. And for such a stupid reason. It’s a few feet of land. He needs to just get over it. Well, that’s Drew’s excuse, not his reason. His reason is to drive my mother crazy. We think we have a solution. Anything that will end this madness and leave my ancestors alone. What if you gave the city back the same amount of land from a different part of the property, in exchange to keep the crypt exactly where it is? Emma suggested the shoreline. If you gave it over to the Forever Wild Preserve, then the egrets that live there will be protected forever. And that’s no matter who owns the property. And not for nothing, it would generate a lot of great publicity for the family. Wow. You two have put a lot of thought into this and come up with a pretty solid plan. You’re not sold. It’s not that. But before we start giving away real estate, I think that I may have a different way to handle it. Hey, thanks for getting here so quickly. Well, I meant what I said. Call if you ever needed anything. And it gives me an opportunity to apologize for stopping by so late last night. So, uh… is Lucky doing any better? As far as I know. Good. So, what can I do for you? Let’s go over here. I’m really worried about Portia. She’s been very distracted lately. It’s not interfering with her work or anything, but I’m her friend. I know when something is off. Well, I appreciate you being concerned about your friend, but why come to me? Well, because the other day you went to see her, and since you and Portia aren’t friends, I assumed you were wearing your attorney hat. Yes, I Portia hired me. Don’t you think that’s a little strange? Portia and Curtis hated you for representing Heather Webber, and now she’s turning to you, of all people? Portia’s seen me in action. She knows I’m a fantastic lawyer. How much trouble is she in? Lucas: What’s going on, Maxie? Everything okay? Oh. Hey. Yeah. I’m here for James’s orthopedist appointment, but I am early, and I have time, so I want you to tell me about your Miami trip, and do not say you worked the entire time. Oh, no, I got some some socializing in, a lot of it with Brad. I don’t know how I feel about that. Well, it was great at first. And then Brad found a way, of course, to mess it up. Yeah, he admitted that he used some shady tactics to worm his way into the symposium. What did he do? I’ll spare you the details, but a lot of drama ensued. I’m gonna need the details at some point. Unless you don’t want to rehash them, which is fine. But I’m sorry you went through that. It must have been a bummer. It was. But there was one bright spot. Yeah? How bright? Ava and I already settled our custody arrangement for Avery. “Settled” being the operative word here. You never should have agreed to a 50 50 split. Well, it’s better than putting us all through, you know, a trial. I know. Right? Yeah, I know, with your heart condition, that’s not something you could really do, and I I get that. But, Dad, now that we know Ava’s financial situation, you can prove that she doesn’t have the means to care for Avery properly. I’ll think about it. But speaking of children that I adore, I got to check on Donna. Oh. Donna’s here? Yeah, yeah, she’s staying here while Carly’s in the hospital. Why didn’t you say so? I’ll go check on her. Well, she’s gonna force you to play that board game ’cause she did it to me, and it’s it’s not fun. Donna wins every board game. She always does. But you know what? I think I’m feeling like I’m up for a challenge. Good luck. Yeah. [ Knock on door ] I just passed Gio and Emma on my way in. They looked like somebody just kicked their puppy. Was that you? [ Inhales deeply ] They may have had an idea, and I may have rained on their parade. [ Chuckles ] Boo hoo. I have something much more important to discuss. Oh, should I brace myself? You can do whatever you want. Lois and Brook Lynn had a bad dust up. Why now? I don’t know. But I’m sure as hell gonna find out. Finally! Lulu: Something wrong? Other than not being able to access my laptop, yeah, everything’s great. Can you please stop changing my password? Done. As in, you will leave my computer alone? No. As in I quit. [ Scoffs ] Elizabeth, Portia is my client. I know, I know, and I’m not trying to pry. I’m just really worried about my friend. [ Sighs ] Okay, look, I know I can trust you, but this has to stay between us, you and me, nobody else. Okay. Understood. Alright, Portia’s facing a potential legal matter, and she just needed my advice. Does this have anything to do with her position at the hospital? Well, um, let’s just say that my experience with defending you against the board might prove helpful to Portia, should certain… details come to light. Oh, God, I feel terrible for her. I mean, I know better than anyone what it’s like to be falsely accused when you’re innocent. Who said she’s innocent? Judging by the swelling, this injury isn’t new. I sprained it during the endurance course. You’ve been hiding this for two days? Well, it wasn’t easy. I had to steal tape from the medical supply closet and wrap it at night. Why didn’t you say anything? And have you call me a whining baby? No. Thank you. [ Chuckles ] Next time you’re injured, ask for help, okay? You know, I thought the whole point of all of this was to be self sufficient. No, the whole idea is to use good judgment. Fighting battles on your own is only gonna get you killed. [ Telephone rings ] Yes? Yeah. Well, send her in. [ Phone hangs up ] Carly, what what are you doing here? Hey. You should be at the hospital. I’m okay. I mean, well, mostly. I just I needed to see you. Sit. Sit down, please. Okay. Can I get you a drink, anything? Um, Jack, look, I I know. I know already why you came here, and I know you want to end things. Actually, I think that You almost died because of me. I don’t blame you for it, but, please, if you can just give me a second to tell you something. Instead of telling me why I’m here, can you let me tell you? Everything okay with Avery? Oh, yes, Avery’s perfectly fine. She’s actually the reason I’m here. There’s no way to ease into this, so I’ll just say it. I need more child support. The amount that you’re currently giving me is insufficient. Child support, huh? That’s right. Well, how much more does Avery need? About as much as you need to pay your debt to the IRS? No. Sonny, that’s not what this is about No, I don’t want to hear it. I know your financial situation is in the toilet, but if you want to ask for money for yourself, just have the guts to ask me instead of hiding behind our daughter. Fine. I need money. How much? $2 million. [ Laughs ] $2 mill That’s a big ask, Ava. Well, for a regular person, maybe, but I know for you it’s a drop in the bucket. We’ll call it a loan, okay? And I will pay back every single cent, plus interest. Please, Sonny. If I don’t pay off my debt, I’ll lose my business. I will lose everything. Okay. Okay? You’ll do it? Yeah, I can make it happen. I’ll call Diane. [ Exhales heavily ] Oh, thank you. On one condition. Wow, this Marco guy sounds like a real catch. Yeah, he was he was really sweet and funny and easy to talk to. I I really enjoyed my conversation with him. Yeah, you enjoyed his conversation skills so much, you just had to kiss him. [ Laughs ] I’ve been there. Well, I was pretty drunk at that point. Yeah. I’ve been there. So, he was really into it, right? From what I remember, yeah. But then, uh, I had to ruin everything by throwing up on him. And the guy probably wishes that he never met me. Uh, I doubt that. Oh, you don’t even know him. Hell, I don’t even know him. No, but I know he respected you enough to not take advantage of you. He made sure you got home okay. That’s true. I think you should give Marco a call, thank him, see how he’s doing, you know, casually check in. Yeah, but what if what if he sees my number on his caller ID and and blocks me or hears my voice and just hangs up? Or you just call him and see what happens. You never know where it could lead. You’re quitting? Effective immediately. Of course. Because God forbid you give the respectful two week notice. I’m sorry. Do you want to prolong the torture? I don’t. Why now? I’ve been thinking about it for a while now, but a visit from your husband sealed the deal. What kind of visit? He said everything that you wanted him to when you sicced him on me. [ Sighs ] I had no idea that Chase was gonna talk to you. When did this happen? Last night. Chase said in no uncertain terms for me to stay away from you. Oh, and then he told me to keep my mouth shut about your baby with Dante. He told me if I don’t, he’ll have me arrested for breaking into Martin’s hotel room. Those were his exact words, or are you embellishing for effect? Do you really expect me to believe you didn’t know about any of this? Believe whatever you want. I had no idea Chase was gonna talk to you. Whatever. Chase used his position as a cop to keep your secret. That’s love. Oh, please. You’re not some innocent victim in this whole thing. You broke the law, and you’re inserting yourself in a situation that has absolutely nothing to do with you. What?! This directly affects my family. Dante deserves to know he has a child, and Rocco deserves to know he has a half brother. And now, thanks to you and Chase, I’m forced to lie to both of them. Ned: Back up. How do you know Brook Lynn and Lois are fighting? Did Brook Lynn tell you? She tried to downplay it, but given how quickly Lois left town, it must have been something serious. Lois is gone? Yeah, back to Bensonhurst. And Brook Lynn does not want to talk about it. So, that in and of itself is a red flag. Hmm. Well, I have sensed something a little off between them lately. Did either of them say anything to you? No. I’m just as in the dark as you are. Well, you better talk to your daughter, find out what Lois did to her. What if it’s the other way around? [ Scoffs ] No. Brook Lynn was acting wounded, not guilty. Lois did something to upset her. Look, Brook Lynn is a mature, married woman. If she wants to talk, she knows she can come to me. Until then, I have to respect her privacy. Ha! Since when? Says who? I say. People have their disagreements, Mother. And besides, if it was something really important, Lois, I’m sure, would have told me. A good agent has to be physically strong, obviously, but even more important, they have to have the judgment to know when they can and should trust someone else to help them. And that someone is you? Today? Yes. Well, you’re not the warmest, fuzziest person I’ve ever met. [ Chuckles ] I’m not saying you have to trust me with your hopes and dreams, but you can trust me to wrap up your ankle. You got to admit, that’s not bad. No, it’s pretty good. Thank you. One of my best mentors taught me it’s all about the situation. Was he tough like you? She was actually a lot older by the time we met. So, while she wasn’t the toughest physically, her mind man, she was sharp. In fact, she was so good at reading people, she never had to call on her training. That’s how it should be for all agents. Everything I learned in here, it’s a last resort. Exactly. Don’t attack or pull a weapon unless absolutely necessary. The minute violence is introduced, the chances of the situation getting out of control go way up fast. Then what? Then you have to live with the consequences. Well, I apologize. The floor is yours. I came to warn you about Jason. Jason Morgan? Yes. He blames you for my poisoning. Well, so do I. Well, he’s decided from here on out that whatever happens to me is going to happen to you, too. Is that your way of telling me that Morgan’s out shopping for polonium? Uh, probably not, but I wouldn’t rule it out. Jason doesn’t say things just to say them. He means it. Okay, well, that’s good to know. Thank you for the intel. I get that you’re Mr. WSB and all, but can you please resist the temptation to minimize this? I’m not scared of Jason. You should be scared of him. I don’t I don’t care about Jason. All I care about is you. I care about you and what just happened to you because of me. So, please, before you say anything else, can I please just… tell you this one thing? Okay. What do you need to tell me? Being an agent is a… It’s not an easy life. It’s lonely. It’s isolating. But that has suited me just fine… until now. Until you. I need you, Carly. What kind of condition are we talking about? Well, in exchange for cash, I’d like to revisit our custody arrangement. You just settled all that. It’s working great. Yeah, but I just kind of realized that, uh, you know, it’s not as satisfactory as far as the terms. How so? Well, I’m not comfortable with the 50 50 thing. What would make you comfortable? Well, I was thinking, like, maybe you could have Avery… …two weekends a month. Over my dead body. Is there anything I can do? Well, now that you Now that you mention it, uh… can you access any administrative records that might show which tests that Portia might have accessed? Well, I’ve never needed to do that before, but I think I can figure it out. It’d be a big help to her case if you can get me a hard copy of it. I mean, nothing that violates HIPAA laws, just names and dates and times that the tests were accessed. Okay. How far back you want me to go? Year or so? But only if you’re comfortable, okay? I would have Portia do it herself, but I don’t want her hands anywhere near this. No, no, no, no, no. It’s okay. I’m her friend. I want to help. But tell me how bad is this situation? Bad enough to ruin her life. I thought for sure that Ned was gonna go for that idea. I mean, it was a perfect case scenario both the crypt and the egrets’ natural habitat going undisturbed, no matter who owns the property in the future. I personally love the way you see the world. It’s just that Ned sees it very differently. What do you mean? Don’t get me wrong. He’s an awesome guy. But at the end of the day, he’s still Quartermaine. And for better or worse, they always put their family first, no matter what, you know? Okay, so, you don’t think he’d ever give up a piece of the land? Not unless the egrets were Quartermaines. Maybe we shouldn’t have been the ones to pitch the idea to Ned because we’re not Quartermaines. Maybe Ned would be a little more receptive if we got someone else in the family to back us up. What is with this new hands off parenting style? You didn’t learn that from me or anybody else in this family. I thought I would branch out, try something new. I don’t like it. I can see that. But I’m staying out of this, Mother, and I suggest you do the same. But I do have something that may just cheer you up. Doubtful. I know how we can get Drew to leave the family crypt alone. I’m cheered adjacent. How? We deploy the bombshell that he’s been keeping from Willow. That he was sleeping with her mother. Exactly. One threat to expose him, and he’ll be forced to back off. What if he calls our bluff? Then we blow up the relationship with Willow. It’s not too tight? No. It’s fine. Can I ask you a question? No promises you’ll get an answer. I’ll risk it. How did you become an agent? Did Brennan also recruit you? Are you asking because you want to know more about me or about Brennan? [ Exhales sharply ] I guess both. I get you’re concern about your mom’s involvement with the guy, but you need to compartmentalize. Otherwise, we’re all wasting our time here. Okay. Forget Brennan. How did you end up here? I have a bunch of cover stories I could tell you. Any chance of getting the truth? The truth is… I can’t tell you. You need me? Yes, and I know I know that’s selfish. I know it’s a selfish thing to say, considering the ordeal you’ve just been through, but… it’s true and I wanted you to know. Well, here’s something I need you to know. I’m not walking away. Why the hell not? Because… I want to know whatever this, us, is. That’s what I was trying to tell you in the hotel room. Before you nearly died. I didn’t die. You saved me. Yeah. This time. What about next time? Are you trying to talk me into ending things? No. Good. I don’t want to overthink things. I want to dive in and explore every minute with you. Your life, your decision. I need you, too. And I want us to be together. Do you honestly think I would give up custody of my daughter for a few measly bucks? 2 million bucks is not a few bucks. And, yes, I think you would. Never. [ Scoffs ] I would be essentially selling my daughter to you. What kind of mother do you think I am? The kind of mother that would use their child as a cover to ask for more money. But you know what? That’s why I’m I feel that Avery should spend more time with me. Oh, yeah. Well Because she would thrive under your care, right? Perhaps in a few years, I can look forward to visiting her at a burn clinic in Germany! How is Michael, by the way? Or don’t you know because you haven’t visited him yet? What’s the matter, Sonny? Airfare too high? Or is the guilt too overwhelming? You don’t know what you’re talking Rick was right. We should have gone to court. I should have fought for sole custody so I could protect my daughter from you. From me?! Look in a mirror! You know what you would see? Morgan and Connie staring back at you. ‘Cause you’re the reason that they’re dead. I have not forgotten that! And I will never forgive! Well, I’m not the only one in this room, Sonny, who’s gonna come up a little short at the pearly gates! I was trying to be civil with this, but you know what? If you were not Avery’s mother, you would not Sonny? No, no, no, no, no. Sonny, what What is happening? [ Groans ] As satisfying as it would be to annihilate Drew and Willow’s relationship… You think it’s a wrong move. [ Sighs ] I think that Drew is far too stubborn to let himself be blackmailed, and once we blow the Nina secret, it’s blown for good. So we continue to sit on it. For now. And I have feeling that… that little piece of information will be better used as leverage against Nina. Her money and influence could come in handy down the line. We just have to wait for the right moment. You never give up, do you? Not when it comes to something that I care about. I think you’re right. Next time we make our pitch to Ned, we need to recruit someone from the family for support. Who’d you have in mind? I have the perfect candidate. You’re lecturing me about “minding my own business”? You’re the one who came into town all those years ago to break up me and Dante. Oh my, God, please. Would you let it go, Lulu? Key words “all those years ago.” Takes on a whole new meaning now. At the time, I thought that you were just acting out on some unrequited crush from your childhood. Had I known that you and Dante actually slept together… Ah, that’s what you’re really mad about. Not that I’m lying to Dante, but that Dante lied to you. The last thing I want is for you to get into trouble. Well, that’s the last thing I want, too, Look, just just If you can do it under the radar, great. If not, totally fine. I’ll pursue a different path. No, no, no, it’s fine. I’m sure I can figure this out. It won’t be a problem. Let me just look into it, and I’ll get back to you. Okay. Perfect. Thanks for the assist on this. After everything you’ve done for me, it’s the least I can do. What’s the point of pursuing Marco? I mean, the man lives in Miami. We’ll probably never see each other again. Long distance booty calls are an actual thing, Lucas. So are long distance relationships. But do I want that? Maybe, maybe not. But you could always just call him. It doesn’t hurt to keep your options open. Did Marco give you his phone number? Well, he he put his number in my phone, and he told me to call him and let him know how I’m doing. What is wrong with you? Do we have to open that can of worms? Marco invited you to keep in touch, Lucas. Yes, but maybe he was just being polite. Text him! Okay, but what if what if No “what ifs,” okay? Either you text him or I will. And you know I will. Ohh, now I am late for my appointment. When I come back, you better have made contact. Carpe diem. Seize the day. They mean the same thing. Text him. What do you think? I think I’m ready for another round. You? [ Laughs ] I think we should call it a day. Really? We could both use a break. [ Groans, inhales sharply ] If you recall, I took a big hit earlier. Oh, I recall. Mnh. See you tomorrow, Jacks. See you. It doesn’t change anything, you know. You still have a very dangerous job, and my life is still in danger. Are you gonna be alright with that? As long as you’re clear that if something happens to me or worse, Jason will follow through on his threat. It’s clear he’ll try. See, that’s what scares me, is that Jason will try and kill you or you’re gonna try and kill Jason, and I am not okay with either one of those scenarios. Well, then I will just have to make sure that nothing ever happens to you. Sonny, wh what’s going on? Talk to me, please. Sonny? S [ Groans ] [ Exhales heavily ] Oh, my, my, looky here. You need those?
