THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
(Missing first half or so-we’ll run it again)
I need a little more context. I can help you take back your life how? Linc not only owns the rights to my songs, he’s turning them into trash, cheap imitations of what they were meant to be. To hell with linc. Write new songs. Better songs. Oh, sure, ’cause it’s totally that easy. You make it look that way. I don’t want to start over from scratch, chase. I want my old songs. I poured my heart and soul into them, and I’m not giving up until I get them back. Hi. I’m so grateful you’re here. I told you I’d be here, nina. I know. I know you did. It’s just, the looks that you’re getting from michael and willow. Maybe — maybe it’s best if you go. Because if you take my side today, sonny, you could be burning the last bridge that connects you with your son. Nina, there’s too much at stake. No, sonny — I’m not leaving.
[ Sighs ] You’re right about the stakes. Everything else can wait. When can we go see elizabeth? As soon as your daddy says it’s okay. In the meantime, have at it.
[ Chuckles ]
[ Sighs ] Grandpa, put that down and come play with me. Your wish is my command. Uncle chase taught me. He’s really good. Yeah, well, who do you think taught uncle chase?
[ Chuckles ] Watch and learn.
[ Thunk ] Oh! Oh. Did I hit someone? It’s a good thing I’m not a lawyer anymore. I might be tempted to sue.
[ Chuckles ] Laura: I am so sorry I wasn’t able to be here sooner. Tell me, how’s your mother? I — I don’t know. She’s in there right now with finn and kevin, but at least she’s not talking about ghosts anymore. That’s a good thing. But is the reality any better? I mean, all the weird stuff that was happening? How scared we all were? That was just mom stalking herself this whole time? Finn: There’s nothing to be afraid of anymore. Except for me. That’s not true. Yes, it is, and you know it. Finn, I started a fire that could have burned down a building, a whole block. I landed chase in the hospital. Who’s next? My boys? Violet? I’m a threat to everyone I care about. That’s why I have to go away. And stay away.
[ Groans ] Dad. Dad — it’s me. It’s your son.
[ Sighs, chuckles ] It’s your son, curtis. I wasn’t dreaming. No. It was you. It’s me. It’s your son. Hang on, okay? No, no, no. Get me out of here. No, let me go. No, hang on. I’m gonna go get a doctor, okay? No, don’t leave. Don’t leave me. Okay. Hold on. How long — how long was I out?
[ Sighs ] Ever since you, um… ever since you got jumped in that alley. You mean —
[ Chuckles ] — You mean ever since you came out of nowhere and you beat those guys’ butts? No. No, no, no. Don’t you? T.J.’S the real hero. If he weren’t there, it could have been a whole lot worse. You both are my heroes. My son. My son and my grandson. And to think I might have — might have lost you both. I’m not going anywhere. And neither are you. Hey. Hey, mom. Thanks for coming. Hey, where else would I be? You know, it’s —
[ Clears throat ] It’s not too late. Can we just try to settle this between us, please? After you threw harmony in my face? Wow. That’s nice. No thanks. You two, don’t engage. Okay. Okay. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come over here. No fraternizing with the enemy. This is war. I told you that if we want to win, there’s only one way to play this thing. Are you in? So you’re in? Wherever it leads? We’re in. All or nothing. Elizabeth, yo-you need more time
Who care about you, not less. And if I hurt them? You won’t! You don’t know that. What if I can’t stop myself next time and I don’t just rip up one of violet’s drawings? I burned down franco’s art studio. Who’s to say that I’m not going to do that to my own house?
[ Door opens ] Elizabeth? Laura. Hi, honey. Oh, sweetheart. I know you’re scared, but trust me, it will be okay if you just face whatever it is that’s wrong and deal with it. Can we agree on that? Oh, I’d listen to her if I were you. I always do. Just don’t know how to do this. And that’s why you have all of us to help you. No, I mean, what if the resources here at gh just don’t cut it? Well, then we’ll find the place that will. A place where you feel safe, where you can get the care you need. Do you hear that? You’re gonna have to let me go. It’s the only way I can find my way back. I don’t know what’s worse, the watered-down lyrics or the generic techno beat that any 12-year-old can produce on an app, and probably did. The techno beat, hands down. You’re right. So what’s the plan?
[ Sighs ] Are you gonna sue linc to get your songs back? I know an attorney who specializes in intellectual property. She helped my dad with one of his academic papers. Unfortunately, that’s not an option. I spoke to diane miller a few years back, and the contract is airtight. Okay, but that was a long time ago. I double checked this morning, okay? I can’t sue linc, so I need a plan B. And that’s where I come in? I did a lot of soul searching. And it would have been easy to — to blame you like I did the first time you walked out, but… when I looked in the mirror, I didn’t see a scared little boy anymore, holding his brother’s hand. I saw a grown man who was so bound and determined to get answers that I essentially drove you away. Curtis, this — this wasn’t your fault. I was — I wasn’t able to — I couldn’t — couldn’t be honest with you, or myself, so it was easier for me to run away again. I’m not gonna lie. I do have questions. I’m sure you do.
[ Sighs ] But whether or not I get answers, I just want you to come home to your family. You know, no strings, no conditions, just… a chance to start fresh for all of us, you know? Yeah. I really hope you want that, too. Sorry, I was trying to make violet’s frisbee boomerang. Ah. Didn’t quite work out as planned. Well, you might want to work on that. I will.
[ Chuckles ] Yeah. Thanks. Um, honey, here. Why don’t you go show off your — whoa — your bubble-blowing skills. Here you go. Uh, so, alexis, why don’t we start over? What brings you to the park today? I was just finishing up a tai chi class down at the duck pond. Oh! I’ve always wanted to try tai chi. The movements look so beautiful. Therapeutic.
[ Laughing ] Yeah, well, I can use all the therapy I can get. I don’t know if finn told you, but it’s been quite the year. My son’s not much of a talker, you may have noticed. Oh, he would enjoy the tai chi then, because the silence is deafening.
[ Chuckles ] Is this your way of expressing your opinions these days? You’re a reader? I am. Can’t quite say I’m a fan. Nina, nice work getting sonny here today. I didn’t do anything. Wait a minute, what are you talking about? If I — if I get him up on that stand, he’s not gonna be in your corner? Scott, don’t put sonny in that position.
[ Groans ] Come on, nina. You told me to do what I needed to do, so let me do it. Bailiff: All rise. The honorable judge foster presiding.
Ase presentyour petitioner’s request. Oh, gladly, your honor. My client, nina reeves, the mother of the late nelle benson-jerome, is seeking visitation of her grandson, wiley corinthos, as permitted in new york state law. I am presenting a precedent in the abercrombie and higgins case — your honor.
[ Clears throat ] As the court is well aware, there are numerous other precedents to deny visitation, and my clients are very eager to explain to you why that should be the case. Ms. Miller, you’ll have your turn. I read the petition, but I’d like to hear your client’s request in her words. Ms. Reeves, would you please come forward? Bailiff: Do you solemnly state that the evidence given in this matter will be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? I do. I guess I just assumed that as a professor of history and journalism, that you might approve of the changes that I made at
the invader. Unless, of course, it’s my inexperience that’s giving you pause. Experience doesn’t equal talent. Agreed. Look at dickens or hemingway. They both started as journalists in their teens. Something to aspire to. I’d suggest you aim smaller. Like maybe your local coverage, specifically your feature on nina reeves. See, I find that interesting, because I was very proud of that story. I thought it was very truthful and unbiased. Was it? Did you prefer
the invader the way it was before? Tabloid fodder, opting for the sensational? At least as a reader, you knew where you stood. No offense, but it seems to me you want your journalism both ways. You want us to send mom away? No, it’s not what I want. But if it’s what she needs to get better, then, yes, we’ll do it. Thank you for being realistic. My love. I’m a danger right now to myself and everyone around me. It’s just not safe for us to be together right now. Mom, you — you would never hurt us. We just don’t know that for sure. I know it’s — it’s awful and it’s scary, and it makes me feel so out of control. But it’s the truth. And I just love you so much. Love you too, mom. I refuse to let whatever it is that’s doing this to me harm you or your brothers. It’s just not an option. Finn? I need you to have my back on this. I have your back. Always. I just don’t see the benefit of hiding you away from the people who can help you. I know how hard this is, finn, I do. I really do. But right now, we all have to do what’s best for elizabeth. Do you know what you’re setting yourself up for? Oh, I do. I ran away not once, but twice. Who’s to say the next time I feel the walls closing in on me, I won’t lace up my sneakers yet again? Because there won’t be any walls, at least not between you and me. There’s nothing that you can say that’s gonna scare me off or turn me against you. You’re my father, marshall ashford, flesh and blood. Nothing comes between us unless we let it. Granddad! Hey, you’re awake. Awake? Boy, would you — you know it’s gonna take more than a couple of muggers to get the better of an ashford. Damn straight.
[ Laughing ] Oh, lord. And you better be thanking him, too. Aunt stella, what are you doing here? I’m taking care of my family, since it’s obvious that you guys need me. How? Portia told me what happened, and I jumped on the first flight out. Do you know how lucky you are this wasn’t worse? What, luck? No luck was needed. I had my son and my grandson by my side.
[ Laughter ] Well, ms. Reeves, could you tell the court why we’re here today? We’re here today because wiley’s my grandson and I love him. It’s really that simple. So how well did you know nelle benson? Not — not really well. She, um, worked with me briefly in different capacities. Nelle, she was a troubled soul. She, um, made countless mistakes and damaged a lot of lives, but no life was more damaged than my daughter’S. Well, when did you find out, in fact, that she was your daughter? I didn’t know that nelle was my daughter until after she died, and that’s when I realized that wiley was my grandson, all that I had left of nelle in this world. Did you get to see him? I did. And how was that? It was great. It was great. Love at first sight, at least for me. And how — how did wiley feel about your visits? Well, lucky for me, wiley made it really easy. He has such a warm, inviting spirit. We did these block houses, and we — we colored together, we’ve read together. Every minute that I get to spend with that little boy was a precious gift. So what happened? Why did his parents just cut you off? Because they decided that I was a bad influence on wiley. I’m not perfect. I’m not claiming to be perfect. I’m far from it, actually. But I am — I am this. I’m a good grandmother, and I love him. And he loves me. It’s that simple. He is my family, and no matter how much you want to, you can never change that.
On board with this plan. Where would you even go? Shadybrook. It’s perfect. It’s excellent. It’s close. It’s comfortable. Wait, they’re not gonna lock her up in some padded cell or something? No.No, it’s not that kind of a place. Well, what kind of place is it? She could expect a week or two of intensive conversation and exploration, and then hopefully, she can transition right into outpatient care. Laura: How does that sound? I’m more concerned with what you think. I want to do this with your support. You really think this is what’s best for you? Yes. Okay. Let’s give it a shot. I’ll — I’ll take you there, and I’ll come visit you as often as I can. No, you won’T. I won’t? You can’T. I have to do this on my own. I was thinking, since you have two weeks left on your suspension, maybe you could shadow linc. Catch him doing something shady that we could use to get my music back. What do you say? I say you’re crazy. Three strangers to three amigos. Wow, when did this happen? I’m just trying to convince marshall to come back to port charles with us. Is that even a question? Apparently. Marshall ashford, do you think I flew all this way to let you go back to a loner life? Some people like to be alone,
stella. You are not one of them. But you’d be a fool if you don’t grab this chance with both hands. Is it okay if i take a look at the patient? Yeah, please. We’ll get out of your way. It won’t take long. Thank you. Did marshall ever explain why he left to begin with this time? I really didn’t want to push him. But T.J. May have answers based on what he found in marshall’s room. T.J.: These aren’t for high blood pressure. They’re antipsychotic medication. But you knew that already, didn’t you? If by “both sides,” you mean telling the truth and turning a profit, guilty as charged. You see, I’m not a professor that sits in an ivory tower. I am editor in chief of a paper, so I have to tell stories about real people with real problems. So you think I don’t know anything about real life? Is that it? No, that’s not what I said. I-I — you just used dickens and hemingway as examples. So this is, in fact, the 21st century. I’m competing with 24-hour news cycles. I’m competing with social media. I’m competing with instant, and I mean instant, information. And I admire you for that. See, I’m not getting that impression. But isn’t there a danger in trying to mix titillation with telling the truth? It seems to me, in the long run, you end up accomplishing neither. If you bothered to read the latest article, which clearly, you did not, you would see that I bent over backwards to be objective and not take cheap shots at either party, like your ex, jackie templeton. We’re talking about your journalistic integrity, not hers. Grandpa, I don’t think you’re playing nice. Ms. Reeves, are you wiley’s only grandparent? Nina: No. No? Well, can you tell us who else is? Relevance, your honor? I’ll t my client is being denied access to her grandson. It seems like there’s a standard for her and another for everybody else. Judge foster: I’ll allow it. Please answer the question, ms. Reeves. Wiley has two other grandparents who are here in the courthouse, carly corinthos and sonny corinthos. Oh, so, sonny corinthos can see his grandson any time he wants, but you’ve been deemed a bad influence? Objection. Withdrawn. So is that it? I mean, as far as grandparents go? No, wiley had another grandmother, harmony miller, but she recently passed away. Harmony miller, who killed neil byrne and his brother and attempted to kill two other people? That’s correct. So she was able to see him and you’re not? Wow. Okay, ms. Reeves, we’re done. If it please the court, I have a few questions for the petitioner.
you have testifiedthat you did not know nelle was your daughter until after her death. Nina: That’s right. Did anyone else know that she was your daughter before you? Yes. Carly corinthos and jasper jacks. And did they know that she was your daughter before her death? Well, carly claimed that she didn’t know that nelle was my daughter before she died, but I have my doubts. You have your doubts, yeah. I bet that’s probably upsetting, huh? To find out that I had a daughter only after she died? Yeah, it’s upsetting. I can imagine you would regret all the time you weren’t allowed to spend with your daughter. Of course I did. If I would have known — what? I’m sorry. If you had known that nelle was your daughter, what? I’m just saying things would have been different. How so? Well, I could have raised her. I could have given her the love that she deserved to have, and then nelle wouldn’t have turned out the way she did, and none of this would have been set in motion. Ms. Reeves, you’ll correct me if I am wrong, but weren’t you in a coma from prior to your daughter’s birth until she was in her 20s? Yeah. Yeah. So this regret, this, “oh, I could have parented her, I could have raised her,” this is all just some delusional, twisted fantasy. Scott: Objection, your honor! I don’t hear a question in there, do you? How’s this for a question? Isn’t this petition of yours an act of revenge? Objection. Leading the witness. I’ll rephrase. Isn’t this petition of yours yet another act of revenge? You really don’t have wiley’s best interests at heart at all, do you? You know, maybe we should give you two some privacy. I’ll call shadybrook. Okay. Come on, let’s go.
[ Door closes ] I mean, I’m not second guessing your decision. You sure about that? Okay, if I am, it’s because I feel like I’m part of this, too. I know you are. I mean, at the very least, my — my presence in your life has played a part in bringing on this… crisis? Sure, let’s go with that.
[ Chuckles ] But don’t you see? That’s why you can’t be a part of this. You were so convinced that there was someone out there trying to split us up, and I was equally convinced that it was franco’s ghost. We were both really wrong.
[ Chuckles ] Is it me? Is there something buried deep down that feels threatened by my feelings for you? As scary as this is, and as much as I really want you to hold my hand through all of this, you just can’T. Because I have to do this on my own. I thought you were on my side. I am. Well, obviously not. Brook lynn, do you have any idea how many laws you’re asking me to break?
[ Scoffs ] One, we don’t have a warrant. Two, you’re talking about blackmail here. And four — you were on three. Yes, three, yes, I’m suspended, but I’m still a cop. But not for long if I take part in this highly unethical plan of yours. Oh, so now I’m unethical? Well, yeah, in this moment. You’re asking me to coerce a suspect into committing a crime. It’s called entrapment. I don’t care what it’s called, chase. I can’t just sit back and do nothing. And I get that. No, you don’t! These songs are my babies, and I will not let someone take them away from me. Babies? Yes. I created them. I nurtured them. I cried when they failed. And I celebrated when they were genius. That’s how much they mean to me. That explains it. What? You’re not just mourning your songs, you’re mourning bailey. Auntie, there’s a story here. It started about 40 years ago, when marshall left home. And if he still has a prescription for these kind of meds, the story continues to this day. I know you want answers, and you deserve them. Yes, there’s a story. But like I said, it is not mine to tell. How’s he doing? It looks like a concussion, but I’d like to run a few more scans before considering discharge. If you’re concerned that he’ll be alone the next few days — don’t worry. He won’t be. Sweetheart, you know, sometimes you go to the playground and you get on one end of the seesaw — and somebody gets on the other end of the seesaw. And then they lift you up in the air, but then they don’t let you down? I don’t like that. Exactly. And then you get upset and then they get upset. And then you end up arguing over a silly seesaw. Is that what you guys were being? A silly? Yes. I apologize for my criticism. Do you retract it? No. No retraction necessary. I have an idea. Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? Why don’t you state your opinion in print on the record? Unless, of course, you’re all talk. Your honor, this i s characterassassination at its worst. Get to where you’re going and fast, counsel, or drop the line of questioning altogether. Your honor, her character is the sole reason we are here today. But of course, absolutely. Ms. Reeves, are you familiar with the series of articles in the invader? Yes, I — I skimmed it. You skimmed it? So then you know that in addition to other details of your very full and rich life, it speaks of the time you spent in a little town called nixon falls. Now, is that portion of the story a lie? Like I said, I skimmed it. Right, you only skimmed it. Okay, how’s this? Is it a lie to say that while you were in nixon falls, you ran into wiley’s grandfather, sonny corinthos, when everyone else presumed him dead? That’s true. Right. And did you keep the knowledge from mr. Corinthos that he was presumed dead, while at the same time keeping the knowledge that he was very much alive from his wife, from his family, including precious little wiley, knowing the pain and suffering it would cause? Your honor. Badgering. Sustained. At — at that moment, I wasn’t thinking about the pain and suffering. No, of course you weren’T. You were just thinking about revenge, getting back at carly corinthos because she possibly kept the secret of nelle’s existence from you. And isn’t it that same revenge that is driving you today?
You’re right, elizabeth. Mm, god, I love it when you say that.
[ Chuckles ] I got to admit, I’m not real crazy about the idea of letting go. Me neither. But in this case, I guess I have to, or I might impede your recovery, and I-I wouldn’t want that. Thank you. Would it be okay if I said I’m really gonna miss you? I’m gonna miss you. But you heard kevin. It might only be a few weeks. Yeah, sure. Back in no time. Yeah, good as new. I liked the old version. Then good as old. Even better. You’re all set. So kevin and i will drive you over. Okay. Right? Just get better, mom, okay? I will make sure that jake and aiden stay in line while you’re away. I know you will. I’ve never been more proud of you than I am right now. We’re proud of you, too. We all are. Are you inviting me to submit something for publication?
The invader welcomes all kinds of opinions. Unless you’re afraid to hear back from the readers. Grandpa’s not afraid of anything.
[ Cellphone chimes ] Is that daddy? Are we going to aunt elizabeth? Let’s do it. Well, give my best to finn and elizabeth. I will. Okay, got it? You forgot. No thanks. Have a good one, alexis. You, too. I’ll go ahead and sign off on those tests. Thank you. I’ve been less than honest about a lot of things. It’s time, marshall. Time to let go of the past. You know what? I think it can wait. What matters now is getting you better. No, no. I appreciate that, but stella is spot-on. Curtis, you deserved an explanation a long, long time ago. I wasn’t able to get it right with tommy, but I can get it right with you. What happened in nixon falls was much more complicated than you’re making it. Not really. You either lied or you didn’T. Which is it? I — I lied. Who hasn’t lied in here? It doesn’t make me a bad grandmother. I love wiley. How can I prove to wiley how much I love him if I’m shut out of his life? How can I prove it not just by my words, but by my actions? With all due respect, ms. Reeves, you had that chance, and you threw it in the garbage. No further questions. You may step down. Well, I think you did it. Let’s hope. Well, that’s the end of that. Is anyone else prepared to speak for or against the petition? Get me on the stand. No, sonny. No. You don’t have to do this. Yes, I do.
daddy! Hello, you. How’s your mom doing? She’s going to a place where they can give her the care that she needs. How long will she be gone? Uh… aunt elizabeth will be home as soon as she feels better. I hope that’s soon. Me, too, sweetheart. Me, too. Elizabeth: Hi, baby girl. Aunt elizabeth! Hi. Oh. If you want, you can take this with you. Oh, thank you so much. You hang on to it, and we’ll play when I get back. Okay. Deal? Deal. Hug for the road? Oh, I love you. And you don’t think you’re getting out of another one. I wouldn’t want to. I love you. I love you, too. I’ll give you a hug, but I’m not saying goodbye. It’s a “see you later.” I’ll see you later. Not if I see you first. Tell my boys I love them and that I’ll be home as soon as I can, okay? You got it. You ready for those scans? Careful now. You got precious cargo there. Once he gets the all clear, mr. Ashford can head home. You know what? That’s exactly where I’m going — home. With my family. This has nothing to do with bailey. No? No. It’s about me taking my life back, everything I’ve worked for. So are you gonna help me or not? I’m sorry, brook lynn. I can’T.
[ Scoffs ] Then I’ll do it myself. Mr. Baldwin, if you and your client have no more witnesses to call… your honor, we have one more witness to call. Sonny corinthos to the stand.
