THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

All right. Here you go.

Oh, that is gonna brighten Maggie’s day.

Well, I’m glad I can help brighten someone’s day today. I just had to break the news to Will and Arianna.

[country music playing]

What news is that?

You haven’t heard?

No.

Gabi was arrested.

What?

Yeah, I thought Tripp would have told you that for sure.

Well, we–we unplugged last night. What the hell did Gabi do this time?

Oh, my God.

Yeah. It’s murder one.

Hey.

Hey. I wasn’t expecting you, you know, it being the day after your wedding night and all.

Well, Sloan is still sleeping, ,::, and I told you that I would be here for our parents’ anniversary gift, so here I am. Question is, where are they?

[soft music]

[sighs]

That’s what I was dreaming of. Except in my dream, there were strawberries.

Mm, yeah, supply chain issues.

Oh. Well, I guess we’ll have to make do.

No, no, no, no, no, no. You can’t eat that. It’s not whipped cream. It’s strawberry cream body butter. I just thought I’d mix things up a little bit.

OK.

But I knew that we would be hungry, so I also have some edible strawberry massage lotion. I figured… I might as well go with some new traditions. What do you think?

I think… come here.

Hey. Happy anniversary, Doc.

Mom?

Oh, Sarah, good morning.

Morning, Mom.

Mm.

Yeah. I know this has to be a tough day, your first anniversary without Victor.

[ominous music]

Got you chocolate croissants.

[sighs] Something wrong?

We need to talk.

[chuckles] Oh, that sounds really ominous.

I got a call today from the head of HR. Shared some very interesting information with me.

What does that have to do with me?

Well, before transferring Victor’s stock shares, they did a forensic analysis of the authenticity of the letter that was supposedly sent from my mother. Guess what. Turns out, I’m not Victor’s son after all.

[sighs] What? I mean, it must be some sort of mistake.

No, it’s not a mistake, Theresa. The letter was altered. And I know exactly who did it. See, your father, he was stupid enough to trust you with the briefcase that the ISA recovered from the crash site. But when he left, you snuck a little peek, didn’t you? Didn’t you?

Alex, I–

But when you saw something that you didn’t like, you came up with the brilliant idea to forge my mother’s signature to make it look as if I was Victor’s heir and not my cousin Xander.

No, I–

Don’t you dare try and deny it now, Theresa! What you did was that you wanted to get your grubby little paws all over the Kiriakis fortune. Newsflash, you will never get anywhere near me or that money, you conniving bitch.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Alex, let me explain.

What is there to explain, Theresa? You’re a liar, you’re a cheat, and you used me.

[dramatic music]

Alex, it’s more complicated–

Enough! I do not want to hear you. All I want is for you to get out. Now!

[gasping]

Hi. What are you doing out on the couch?

Uh… um, I don’t know. I guess I was staying up late watching TV. I must have fallen asleep.

Oh. Well, you’re up now, so good morning.

[sighs] Morning.

Are you hungry? Do you want me to make us some breakfast?

Um, no. That’s fine. I’ll just go to something at Sweet Bits.

Oh, Sweet Bits, OK. You OK? You seem kind of freaked out.

Yeah, no, I’m good. I just had some really weird dreams all night.

I’m sorry. I would have let you sleep.

No. No. Honestly, I’ve never been so glad to wake up in all my life.

Well, I hope you’re not disappointed, Doc. You know, I just figured with all the multiple anniversaries we’re celebrating throughout the year here, a little variety might be nice. But you know what I can do? I can go out and see if I can find another store and we can–

Don’t do that. Don’t do that. I just feel so lucky that we are celebrating our anniversary together. I’m not letting you out of my sight.

You know, Doc, for months, I didn’t know if we would ever get a chance to do this again.

And yet, here we are. Together again.

Forever.

Forever.

[soft music]

Oh.

I can’t remember, Mom. How many years would it have been?

.

Wow. I didn’t realize.

It went by too fast. Are you sure that you don’t want me to go to court with you today?

Oh, no, no, no. No. I don’t want to add any more stress to this day for you. And besides–

What? What is it?

[tense music]

I know that you were hoping that Xander and I could work out some sort of a custody agreement, but I don’t want to disappoint you. That’s just not gonna happen.

I think you better be prepared, honey, because you could lose your daughter forever!

Sweetheart, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t–I shouldn’t have sounded so harsh.

No, I know. I know. I do. And I know– I know that you were wishing that I could make things work with Xander in a civilized way. But the last time that I took your advice and gave him a second chance was when I found out that he was suing for full custody. So it really is– there’s only one option. And by the way, Konstantin even agrees.

You discussed this with him?

Well, he knows Xander. All too well, in fact. And when I heard what Xander had done to him, it just strengthened my resolve. I know how much Xander means to you, but this is the right thing to do. So you’re just going to have to trust me, Mom. Please.

Hey!

Kayla, Steve, how are you?

Hi.

Hi, Sarah.

How are you?

Steve.

So good.

Oh, my goodness. It’s so good to see you.

Hello, Maggie.

Oh, Sarah, I meant to call you. Listen, HR is sending over the paperwork in a email today. I promise you. And as I said before, I’m so happy that you’re getting back on board.

You’re going back to work so soon?

Um, yeah, but it’s– it’s only part time.

Are you sure you’re ready for this?

I have to be, Mom. I have to show the judge that I can provide for my own daughter on my own.

[baby crying] Oh, speaking of, said baby apparently needs to feed. So I’m gonna go do that. Kayla, I will get all that paperwork back over once I receive it.

OK.

OK. Thanks.

Oh, Maggie, I’m sorry. I just assumed you knew.

No, I didn’t. Sarah obviously didn’t want me to know because she thought I’d worry, and she’s right. Being a new mother is– it’s hard enough. And she’s been through so much. I just don’t think she is totally facing the gravity of this custody battle.

I’m sorry. I mean, I know this day is hard enough already.

Does everyone know that this is my wedding anniversary?

Even me. It’s because my wife told me.

[laughter]

That’s why we’re here.

Oh.

[sniffs]

[sighs] What are you doing?

I’m reading the instructions.

[chuckling] Well, I appreciate your diligence, but you know what, Doc?

Hmm?

I kind of think that we can figure that out on our own.

[soft music]

[laughter]

Uh, Dad and Marlena are in their room.

[laughs] Oh.

Yeah, oh. So I don’t know how much longer you–you want to wait around.

No, well, you know, the gift being from all of us. And you shouldn’t be the only one to have to be here waiting. Sloan, she’s got court anyway, so I thought I’d let her sleep in.

OK. Hey, when are you gonna do this proper honeymoon?

You know, we really haven’t discussed that.

Huh. You know, Eric, I wasn’t gonna say this the other day, but you know EJ and Nicole got married. So that wouldn’t have anything to do with the suddenness of your ceremony, would it?

Sloan and I have been engaged for months.

I know. I know. I know. But that’s also not what I asked.

OK. So why would I pick the same exact date as Nicole and EJ? Their anniversary? Not to mention that, it’d be the day before Mom’s.

Also, the day of my grandfather’s and Maggie’s, for the record. ‘Tis the season to get married, it seems.

Oh, Caroline’s famous scones.

[laughter]

Roman told us that you and Victor had them for many a morning, you would get an order. And well, we just want you to know that we were thinking of you.

Thank you. That was so kind. I’ve been the recipient of so many lovely gifts lately.

Like that?

Yes. What do you think?

It’s–it’s big.

Um, you know Steve has been known for his hard-hitting art criticism.

Now, hold on. I wasn’t finished. It’s big, and I think it’s also an excellent rendering.

So do I.

I love it. It was a gift from Victor’s old friend, Konstantin.

Konstantin, I thought you were leaving town.

Maggie asked me to stay on a bit longer. It seems she enjoys my company.

Well, Maggie has a big heart. I hope you’re not taking advantage.

Of course not. I’m here to pick up a little gift for her, to express my appreciation.

Mm-hmm. You mean you’re staying here to keep an eye on me.

And how are things going with you and the Kiriakis heir obscura?

I’m headed to Alex’s to bring him breakfast right now. Slow and steady, as they say.

Not too slow, I hope.

Don’t worry. You’re gonna get your cut. And Alex and Xander will never be the wiser.

They better not be.

Hello, Theresa.

When your partner bids two no trump– oh, Eric, honey!

Son, what are you doing here? You were supposed to be off to work. And what are you doing here?

Well, you know, surprise, surprise.

We have an anniversary gift for you.

Oh, you didn’t have to do that. Plus, we should be getting a wedding present to you, but we haven’t had time to shop yet.

No, you married me and Sloan. I mean, you gave us the best wedding present of all.

Yeah, but congratulations are in order, kid.

Well, thank you.

And here’s wishing that you and Sloan have as many years of happiness as your mother and I have had.

He brought me this old family photo album to look through. And he told me a story about every one of the pictures. And it brought me such comfort to hear about Victor’s past because there was so much I didn’t know.

I come bearing–oh! Excuse me. I didn’t know you were entertaining guests.

Oh, don’t be silly. It’s fine. I’d like for you to meet my friends Kayla and Steven.

Ah, you must be the famous Konstantin Meleounis.

I don’t know about how famous, but very impressive, how you pronounce those vowels. You worked for Victor once upon a time, yes?

Mm. Yeah. What gave it away?

[laughter]

He said you were one of his most reliable men back in the day. And you were a steadfast friend of Bo’s.

That’s right.

Ah. Well, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. And you–you must be Caroline’s daughter. You look so much like her.

Did you meet my mother?

No, I’ve never met her. I saw a picture of her. And that’s enough for me to say that you are as beautiful as she was.

Very kind of you.

Why were you talking to Konstantin?

Who?

The man you were just talking to, Konstantin? Victor’s old friend from Greece. The one who’s practically moved in with Maggie.

Oh, that guy was just asking directions to some restaurant I’ve never heard of before. I have no idea who that guy is. What do you mean, he’s practically moved in with Maggie?

Hmm. I thought you were tight with Maggie. Looks like you’re pretty tight with Konstantin too, huh?

Are you calling me a liar?

[breathes deeply] You know what? I don’t have time for this, because Alex’s breakfast is getting cold.

Can’t have that, can we?

What’s that supposed to mean?

You know exactly what it means. Your strategy is so obvious, Theresa. What, you’re gonna wait on Victor’s heir hand and foot in the hope that he’ll toss you some crumbs, drop down on one knee, and beg you to make him the happiest man in Salem?

Oh. You’re just jealous because you’re not Victor’s long lost son and heir.

[chuckles]

Sarah, hi.

Belle really wanted to be here. She’s dealing with the Gabi mess right now, though.

Yeah, that’s keeping her pretty busy.

Yeah, I wish to heck she hadn’t taken the case, honestly.

Yeah. Why would you say that?

Well, Dad, she’s been– she’s been playing some dangerous games with people lately, right? Oh, yeah. She and Stefan tried to use me to get Kristen’s DiMera shares. They told me they were gonna help me get Rachel back, and then they just pulled the rug out from under me, and it was–it was pretty bad. And you tried to warn me. And I should have listened a little better.

Look, I’m sorry all that happened, but it had nothing to do with Nate’s death, you know. And you can’t hold yourself responsible for that. I’m actually a little more concerned about Arianna. I mean, she’s so excited about coming home. And I don’t know how she’s going to feel about finding out that her mother went to jail.

Yeah, poor little thing.

Hey, you know, with everything going on here, maybe we should do this another time, you know, when everyone’s a bit more celebratory.

No, no, no. Please, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to spoil everything. You’ve both come all this way. I appreciate that so much. So let’s celebrate, shall we?

Yeah. Let’s do it.

Shall we?

Let’s do it. What do we got here?

[soft music]

Oh.

[gasping]

Well, we did our research, and we discovered that this traditional gift on the sixth anniversary is wood.

Wood. It symbolizes strength. And you two have given us so much strength over the years and inspiration, and this was our way of telling you that we love you.

Family tree. Robicheaux, Black, Evans, Brady.

Yeah, It’s us. It’s all of us.

It’s all of us. It’s Carrie. Paul. Sami. Everyone’s in there.

Glad you finally have your family tree.

It’s wonderful. Thank you.

It’s–it’s moving, as you can see. Good job.

[laughter]

Well, you always told us that family is everything.

And it is. Thank you.

You know, we’re gonna have to add Sloan to this.

Oh, no. No. We actually mutually decided to leave significant others off. Kids, of course. You have Rachel, Tate. But I don’t know, does anybody really need to have Kristen and Theresa on the tree? See, I didn’t think so.

I got you chocolate croissants. Something wrong?

We need to talk.

OK.

I got a call from the head of HR at Titan today. She shared some very interesting information with me.

What does that have to do with me?

Sarah, oh, my God. Look at this little cutie pie. She’s getting so big.

Yeah. Yeah, they do that.

I just bought her some clothes from that children’s boutique a block from the inn. Hey, darling. Daddy just bought you the prettiest bright pink dress with a matching hat. You’re gonna look so beautiful in it.

[soft music] Look, I know you said you wanted to see me in court, but my offer still stands if you want to just talk this out over a cup of tea.

Actually, Xander, could we postpone the court hearing today?

Why? Are you having second thoughts?

No. It’s my mom and Victor’s wedding anniversary, and I just– I don’t want her to worry about all this.

Of course, the anniversary. How’s she doing?

As well as to be expected. Thank you for asking. That–that means a lot to me.

Well, pretty much the only thing Victor and I ever had in common was that we both adored Maggie. So if you need to postpone the hearing on her account, I would never object.

I will leave you to your guests.

No, no, no. Don’t–don’t leave on our account.

What is that? It’s not another gift. Practically every time you come through that door, you bring me a gift.

I know Victor would have given you something much more personal on this special day. But I believe is the lace anniversary. And I remember there was a beautiful lace tablecloth in Victor’s villa in Greece, and I asked a friend to send it to me.

Oh, my goodness.

Wow, that’s beautiful.

I just picked it up at the post office.

Oh, that’s– that’s very thoughtful. I’m touched. I’m gonna put it on the table immediately. And we’ll all have tea and taste these delicious scones, if the two of you can stay?

Of course we will. Yeah. Listen, do you think that Justin could join us? We haven’t seen him since he found out that Alex was Victor’s son, and we’ve been worried about him.

Yes, it was hard on him, obviously. But unfortunately, he’s not here right now. I can tell him that you were asking about him. I’ll ask Henderson to prepare us something.

And I will go with you.

Wow. Guy’s quite the charmer, isn’t he?

Well, that’s one word for it. But I think I’m gonna call bull.

No, come on. He’s a nice guy. And Maggie seems to really like him.

If you say so.

There was one little thing, though.

What?

I spent a lot of time in that villa with Bo, and I didn’t see any lace tablecloths.

[tense music]

Well, that’s because Konstantin is lying through his teeth.

Well, I’m surprised he came over the day after his wedding.

What? Do you think something’s wrong?

Well, I had a talk with him right before the wedding, and he seemed very happy being committed to Sloan and the baby.

Right.

Mm.

And how about you?

Hmm?

How are you doing now that Theresa’s back in Salem?

About as good as you could expect.

And do we think that she will stick around now that Tate is living here?

I don’t– I mean, probably since she’s now moving on with Alex Kiriakis, apparently.

What?

Yeah, moving on with and moving in with, I think.

Didn’t even know they knew each other.

They didn’t. But she didn’t waste any time zeroing in on Alex at Victor’s funeral, after I made it abundantly clear that she and I were never gonna have a relationship again.

You don’t think–

Dad, I don’t think. I know.

Come on, that she’s just there for his money?

Well, how could she have known that he was gonna be Victor’s heir?

She couldn’t have. I mean, granted, she did start pursuing Alex before we knew about the new will. I don’t know. Call it dumb luck, call it what you want, but maybe she has an innate ability to just sniff out money. Regardless, she’s got her hooks in pretty tight now.

You worked for Titan once upon a time, didn’t you?

Yeah. So?

Well from my understanding, Victor put you in charge of “Bella” magazine for a little while. Right?

Yeah, he did. Uh… I was so sad when it ceased publication.

Ah, well, it wasn’t my idea. I assure you. In fact, I fought tooth and nail for it. But now that I’m in charge, I’m looking to revive it. Since we don’t have a publisher at the company anymore, how would you like the job?

You think Konstantin’s a liar?

You were right. This tablecloth isn’t from Victor’s villa in Greece. It’s from Saxton’s Bargain Basement, % off. The cheapskate.

And fool. I mean, why wouldn’t he put this in the trash? Why would he lie about something like this?

Because he’s trying to ingratiate himself with Maggie. Obviously. If he’s lying about the little things, what big things is he covering up?

Come on. Maggie’s too smart of a woman. She would see through that in a second. Maybe he is genuinely trying to make her day a little bit easier. Maybe it’s a–maybe it’s a kind-hearted fabrication for Maggie’s sake, and she’s just going along with it.

Maybe.

Xander, that means so much to me. Thank you.

Well, I didn’t do it for you. I did it for Maggie. I’ll do anything for Maggie. But Sarah, I’m– I’m not eager to get into some big court fight with you. I’d much rather that we just sort it out ourselves over a cup of tea, like I said.

It’s times like these that I feel like we almost could. Just… it does also feel like every time I let my guard down with you, something happens and…

There you are.

It makes me regret it.

Hey. I just left my parents’ place and I got served with this. A subpoena to testify against you in your custody case.

[gasping] Alex, I don’t know what to say. Um… I’m flattered, but um, are you sure this is what you want? I mean, we’ve never worked together before.

We can carpool.

[both laughing] Seriously, Theresa, you’ve run your own company for years. And I know you’ve been winding down career-wise due to the circumstances beyond your control, but I think right now is the perfect time for you to take advantage of the opportunity and move on. Right?

Yeah, but why–why do you want me out of all people? I mean, it’s not like you need my income to pay your rent.

No, no. Of course that’s true. But it was my father that originally put you in charge, and I think he would be very happy now if I did the same thing. And I know your reputation isn’t exactly sterling, but quite frankly, neither was his, or mine. But this business is full of sharks. Do you understand? This is a cutthroat business. I want a shark alongside of me.

Hmm.

And selfishly thinking, there’s a whole lot of people at Titan that are still loyal to Maggie. They think I’m this pretender that didn’t deserve the job. But with you, I don’t have to question your loyalty, because I know you have my back.

You’re gonna testify against me in court?

I don’t have a choice. I need to tell the judge that you lied about our baby’s paternity to establish a pattern of your deceit.

Oh, my God. How the hell could you?

Don’t look at me! This was all his girlfriend’s idea. Go wave that paper in her face.

It’s my wife, and don’t you try to pawn it off on her. And I know you told her to go after the jugular.

He’s paraphrasing.

Cut the crap, Xander. This has got you written all over it. Let me guess– you left out the part that you played in Sarah’s lie? Hmm? Yeah. Well, don’t worry, I’ll be sure to tell my wife all the details. This won’t be the home run you thought it would be.

This is exactly what I was talking about. No, you smile at me, and you say how much you love my mom, and then when my back is turned, you just drive a knife right in.

That wasn’t what I was doing–

No. You know what, Xander? You can come after me as much as you want, but you better be prepared for what I’m gonna dish out in court.

What are you two doing back here?

I left my wallet behind. Thank goodness, it’s still here.

Better check the cash, baby. I hear the bartender in this joint is pretty shady.

[laughter]

Hell, if I need cash, all I gotta do is set up a poker game with my brother.

OK, fellas.

Ha-ha, anytime, dude.

Come on, fellas. Listen, we just came from Maggie’s.

How is she?

Well, she liked the scones, when she wasn’t too busy admiring that bargain basement tablecloth we just had tea on.

Do I want to know?

Uh-uh. No. All you need to know is that the pastries were fabulous.

OK, I’m glad about that. And if you’ll excuse me, I got business.

Yeah.

[groaning] You know, I really don’t think that we should start spreading rumors about Konstantin’s motives just yet.

[twangy music playing]

If you say so.

No, really. I mean, if what you think is true, that Konstantin is up to no good, I think the first person we should talk about it with is Maggie.

Well, not yet. I want to find out everything I can about this man first. In fact, I think it’s a case for Black Patch.

Well, Steve and Kayla were certainly charmed by you.

As I was by them. They seem like wonderful people.

Oh, they are. They’ve been great friends to me for a very long time.

I’m glad they stayed for tea.

Me too. I’m glad you’re here, Konstantin.

[soft music] I honestly don’t know how to thank you. You took what I’m sure was gonna be a very difficult day for me, and you–you made it special.

OK. So all right, I’m gonna go. I got to get to work.

[laughter]

Mm. Thank you for the lovely gift. So thoughtful.

You’re welcome. I love you.

We love you.

Love you, kid.

Bye.

What a thoughtful gift.

[soft music] But you know what? I can’t figure out how they came up with the idea of wood. Because you know, I do a lot of reading, and everything I read, it was–it was candy. And I was thinking, well, since fruit is nature’s candy, surprise.

[laughs]

It’s our candy anniversary?

[laughs] Yeah. Seriously, are you gonna doubt my mastery of the anniversary symbols here?

No. The thing is I did some research too. And I think you’re both wrong. Because I read that this is our… Iron anniversary.

Iron anniversary. Happy anniversary, my love.

Six irons for our sixth anniversary. That’s pretty damn clever, Doc.

Yeah. Well, I thought maybe once we retired, we could take up golf.

Retire. Oh, come on, baby. You and I, we’re in our prime here. But I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do. I will meet you on the first tee in, say, 10  years time. No? OK. How about 20? Will you take 60?

[both laughing]

You’re pushing it now.

20, it is. Come sit with me, baby. Come on. I would like to officially say happy anniversary, sweetheart.

Happy anniversary, my love.
