THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
Hi. Hi. How’s uh, how’s Doug feeling? Well, I’m getting him some chicken soup. And he insisted it was fine for him to come downstairs and eat the soup in front of the big tv and I insisted, no, he’s still recovering from the flu and he should stay put and have the soup upstairs in bed. Uhhuh, I can guess who won that argument.
It wasn’t easy. Oh, thank you so much for spending time with him earlier. There’s nothing he loves more than a good game of gin rummy. Yeah, we, I mean, like I told him, there’s, there’s nobody I would rather spend time with. No, I’m grateful he took his mind off Abraham for a little while. Oh. And he lifted my spirits as he always does.
I’m so glad. So, um, what are your plans this evening, darling? I noticed you set out the good silver and the good napkins. Well, um, if it’s, uh, if it’s okay, I was, uh, hoping to have Stephanie over for dinner. There’s our baby girl. Hi. The, uh, the Juneteenth celebration was just incredible food, music. Oh. If only the hospital hadn’t had that emergency, I would’ve loved to have gone.
You were missed both of you. Yeah. Well, John and I didn’t wanna let up on the search for Abe. Abe was supposed to give the keynote speech and Theo stepped in for him. He did such a great job. I bet he did. This whole thing is so horrible. I mean, who on earth would wanna kidnap Abe baby? That’s what we’re all trying to figure out.
What is it? Who, what is it? Um, it’s Alex. Oh, is everything okay? Yeah. Fine. He just, um, was sharing some good news. Yes. We just did that. We just did that and I just sent the signed contract off to legal. Which means we are officially in business Basic Black with Yuri Casas. No. Good job man. Good job. Hey, it’s all you man.
Drinks on me. Ah, drinks yeah, drinks on me. No bueno, Alex. Ah, right. Yeah, I’m sorry about that. That’s my bad. Well, how about we, um, I don’t know, split a play of nachos wings. Hey, whatever the hell you want. I just know I’m in way too good of a mood to go home right now, and it’s not like anybody’s waiting on us.
Right. Yeah, definitely not. Oh, I’m so tired. Oh, yesterday I had that great ad buy from Saxtons and then today at least a dozen of our vendors are asking us to cut their rate by 20%. Well don’t worry, I managed to hold them off at least until our numbers for next quarter come hopefully Gwen’s exclusive with dirt bag on Lo snow Drive our numbers up.
Ah, I hope so. Me too. I mean, I just had to. Promise our two top reporters are raised so they wouldn’t jump ship. I bet you’re regretting not taking that job at Titan. Rightly, and even the worst day of the Spectator is still a day I get to spend with you. Yeah, and there it is. The patented Sander Cook charm, which has convinced me to ignore all the reasons why pursuing a relationship with you is a horrible idea.
And yet here I am. What can I say? It’s a blessing and a curse. Okay, back to work for one second. Are you sure that Maggie’s not truly upset that you turned her down? I mean, yeah, she was disappointed, obviously, but she knows I have to fall in my heart. Are you sure about that? About Maggie? Yeah, I know. It’s just when I went over there to talk to her, I had the strangest encounter with Bonnie.
I thought you could use a fresh supply. Thank you, honey. Go. That is some cold you have. It seemed to have come outta nowhere. No, I told you it’s God’s way of punishing me for lying. No, no. That’s not how it works. And you know that besides, all you did was pretend you were sick. That’s not all I did. I told like a zillion lies.
God, Justin. It just kept on yapping and yapping and digging myself in deeper. I really didn’t mean to. I mean, it just sand her short off and I panicked. You’re caught off guard. You weren’t expecting to see him. No. Please don’t use that word expecting it. Just reminds me of the secret Sarah’s wanting me to keep, but honey, it just makes me panicky.
Okay, sweetheart. Xander’s not here. Yeah, but he could come back and I could mess up everything. I could crack under this pressure and tell him Sarah’s pregnant with his kid.
Like sand through the hourglass. So are the days of our lives.
Is it okay for you to invite Stephanie here to dinner? More than Okay. You know, I like her so much. Oh, well, you know, she feels the, the same way about you, you know, you and Doug. It, um, our talk yesterday in the cemetery, it, it really did help. You’re right. Guilt is corrosive. And, and Abby wouldn’t want me to shut myself off to the world.
She would, she would want me to live my life. Yeah. She would darling. And
thank you. Just you, you know, for your wisdom and for everything you’ve done for, for me and the kids and helping out. And I, I just, I, I, I really don’t know what I would do without you guys. Well, Doug and I feel the same way about you having, having you here with your children. It’s a comfort. It’s been wonderful.
We love you. We love you kids too.
Hello Doug. Let me in. Hi, is he in the Dan in front of the big tv. Yeah, I think so. Uhhuh, well, a few darlings will, excuse me. I will just get ahold of my naughty husband and put him back into bed. Enjoy your dinner. I hope I’m not too late. No, no, you’re right on time.
So neither of us are having much luck with the ladies at the moment, but at least things are going damn well between you and I. That’s a big comfort. I’m serious man. We may be family, but after all the fighting, Sonny and I did a Titan. There is no guarantee this was gonna work out. I know it’s still early and we just landed Yuri freaking Kana about the gate.
Are you kidding me? I think this is the beginning of a very long, successful partnership, Alex. It could be. Or in a couple months we end up trying to kill each other. Who knows? Dude, the pessimism. My God. You’re right. You’re, listen. I’m so, don’t take it personally. Okay. Just lay lately, being hopeful about anything hasn’t worked out for me.
I’m just constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.
We need to talk now.
You had a strange encounter with Bonnie. Isn’t every encounter with that woman strange? Now this was stranger than usual. How so? Well, she was nervous, like super jumpy, scared. Really? When I walked in, she screamed at me to stay back and then ran behind the couch. Well, maybe she has a little bit of PTs. D From that time you held her prisoner in the garden.
She, yeah, I mean, obviously that’s what I thought too, but no, Bonnie assured me that she’s forgiven me for all that. Then why would she tell you to stay away? Well, her excuse was that she had some terrible cold and she didn’t want me to catch it.
So after you left to go meet with your client, I gave myself this pep talk, you know, I said, body girl, you got this. You just gotta steer clear as Xander. And I turned around. Boom. There he was. You must have been surprised. Surprised. No, I was terrified. God. It was like being in a horror film where you’re peeking around the corner looking for the killer and you turn around and he is been behind you the whole time.
God, I was so shocked to see Zander there. I, I just, I couldn’t think straight. I, I just, the more kept trying not to tell him what I knew. The more it got closer to blurting it out, it was like I was a pressure cooker ready to blow, you know? I’m just so glad I have a release valve. What’s that? Oh honey, you, if I wasn’t able to tell someone I’d be climbing the damn walls, I am just so grateful.
You don’t have a problem keeping Sarah Secret. You know, actually Bonnie, I do.
So Bonnie may have reacted a little over the top, but maybe she was trying to be considerate and try not to get you sick. Yeah. But that wasn’t really even the weird part. It wasn’t, no, no. As I was leaving, I found out that Nicole was pregnant. I got a news alert on my phone and when I read it, I went, oh wow, she’s pregnant.
And Bonnie replied with, she told you she’s pregnant. Why would Bonnie think that Nicole would tell you personally that she’s pregnant? Right? I mean, everyone knows Nicole and I aren’t exactly pal’s, honestly, I, I got the impression that Bonnie thought I was talking about someone else.
You have a problem keeping Sarah’s secret. Why didn’t you tell me this before? Well, you didn’t gimme a chance. You just handed me a dollar. So we’d have attorney client privilege. No, wait. Hang on, hang on. I filled you in and told you we had to keep this between us, and then Maggie interrupted us. But after she left, you didn’t say a word.
You kissed me and went off to your meeting. And in fact, we talked on the phone later and you seemed like everything was fine. I know, but I’ve had some time to think. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Justin, please, please. You gotta stick with me on this. Just like you stick with your clients, you keep their confidences, and I bet they have secrets way worse than this.
Well, that may be, but those secrets don’t involve my cousin. Are we feeling bad for Xander? Are we forgetting what he did to me? No, I’m still very upset with him, but that doesn’t mean that I’m okay with keeping life-changing information from him. Justin, I made a promise to Sarah. I know you did, but I didn’t and I just don’t feel comfortable knowing that Sarah’s pregnant with Sander’s baby and he doesn’t know
you ordered pizza. I did. Garlic and jalapeno from me. Mushroom for you, baby. I thought we were having leftovers. No, no, no. I decided we can’t have leftovers today because we’re celebrating. Celebrating what? Having the house.
Thanks for inviting me to dinner. What? You don’t have to thank me then allow me to express my gratitude on behalf of my parents between us. I think they’re very glad to have some alone time. What, no, you lived in Seattle for years. I’m sure they’re thrilled to have you at home. Oh, living in Salem is one thing that living under the same roof is something else.
Is there tension? No, not at all. But they’ve hardly had a chance to reconnect since we got back from Greece. You know, after all those months of thinking my mom was dead, the way they look at each other, I’m starting to feel like a third wheel. Wow. Yeah. Tmmi. Oh, no. Yeah, a little, sorry. I’m just, I’m starting to think that maybe it’s time for me to look for my own place.
You know what’s funny is I, I was thinking the exact same thing on Maggie. Hey, is everything okay? I don’t know. You tell me. Did you just make a deal with Yuri Koff? Yeah. Yeah, we did. We’re actually launching a brand new digital fashion line on his app. What about it? Well, up until a few weeks ago, he was ready to make a deal featuring exclusive Titan content.
On that very same app.
Well, you should know, Alex. You blew the whole thing. Did you do this on purpose? Excuse me? Well, I was in Greece with Victor and I let you take that meeting with Fury. Your one job was to get him to sign that contract. And somehow he didn’t. And ever since, I’ve been wondering how you managed to botch such a simple task, and now I know you did it on purpose.
What are you talking about, auntie? Why would I do that? You had Brady’s job offering your back pocket, so tanking that deal. What was your way of giving the middle finger to tighten on your way out the door? Maggie? Maggie, I, I did not. Bring Alex on until after you fired him. And besides that, is that really who you think I am?
That I am just some snake that would intentionally hurt my own family? Well, you had to know that working for the competition, basic black would hurt us. I needed a job. I offered to hire you back. You turned me down and you joined the competition. Why? Because you were angry at Victor. He passed you over.
You were resentful of me for being my number two. So your parting shot at us was intentionally screwing up that deal. Did it ever occur to you that maybe I’m not the reason why Yuri walked away. If I was auntie, why would he still wanna work with me? Hmm. I’ll tell you why. It’s because when he finally looked into Titan, he realized there was a dinosaur.
Now this guy’s moving at the speed of light. Meanwhile, you’re telling him to be patient and prudent. He doesn’t want any part of that. This guy wants to slay right now. Is that so? That is, damn. So. And he can’t slay Jack with a relic like Titan Auntie for the past. We are the future. So with that being said, the.
The question you should be asking is not whether or not I tanked the deal between Yuri and Titan more so how could you ever have thought that Yuri would actually wanna make a deal with a loser like Titan to begin with?
How dare you insult me like that. Uh, I was talking about Titan. Titan isn’t a loser. Our profits are up. Our shareholders couldn’t be happier. Hmm. Now, auntie, what is the average age of those shareholders? Oh, no, no, no, no. Don’t you go there. I’m just being honest with you. Yuri doesn’t wanna deal with gray suits and gray hair.
He wants energy. Oh yeah. Like all that energy you put into tagging the deal. Auntie Mag, you can blame me all you want for Yuri deciding not to work with Titan, but he did that all on his own. You are not the right person to bring his vision to life. And he told you that? Oh yes, that’s right. After that meeting where you sabotaged me.
Oh, yes, yes. Up until that point, he was thrilled to be signing with Titan because he didn’t do his homework. When he did, he realized that your company was all wrong for him, and that is the truth. That is a fact, and I’m sorry if you can’t accept that. What I can’t accept is you being an insufferable.
Disloyal swine who sold a company and a client from us, Maggie? I don’t think that’s what Alex was doing. You fired me. Maggie. Do you think that I have any type of obligation to your company? No. And what about your obligation to Victor? What do you think you’d think of what you did? I think he’d admire the initiative.
Oh, so now you are admitting that you did the tanking on purpose? I’m admitting that I saw an opportunity and I took it, and I think Uncle Vic of all people would never have a problem with that. And what about you, Brady? Do you have a problem with it? Did knowing that Yuri had a deal in the works with Titan?
Give you pause. Actually, this is the first time I’m hearing about this. That being said, Maggie? Um, I agree with Alex. I don’t think Victor would be upset with him or me.
He would be upset that you both have treated me so disrespectfully. No, no, no, no, no, no. Victor would be the first one to say business is business. Maggie. We are rivals in business. Yeah. And maybe if you two aren’t always so busy firing us, Karakas, we wouldn’t work for the competition.
Who did Bonnie think was pregnant? Well, she claimed that she was talking about Nicole too, and then she had a massive coughing fit and the conversation was basically over until I mentioned you. What about me? Well, I said that we were involved and she got super interested, started asking all these questions and basically freaked out.
What do you mean? Well, she demanded that I end things and you know, said I was making a huge mistake. Oh God. That goes all the way back to high school. In high school. Yeah. In high school. I had this rivalry with her daughter Mimi, which I’m the one who should be holding a grudge about, by the way. But, um, because of her daughter, Bonnie’s never been a great fan of mine.
Yeah. But her reaction was really extreme, even taking that into account. Yeah. But she’s silly. She probably thought she was protecting you or something. Trust me, this has everything to do with Mimi. I don’t know. I think maybe it has more to do with Sarah.
Justin. I know Xander is your cousin, but come on. Not just that, it’s that I was in the very same position that Xander’s in now, and Angelica, when she was pregnant with Alex, she kept that from me and that was wrong. Look, I’m sorry she did that to you, but Angelica was creating nutcase. Sarah’s not Justin.
She has legit reasons for not wanting XR to know. I understand that. But secrets have a way of coming out, especially ones about babies and Sarah of all people should be sensitive to that. I hear you. Believe me. I hear you. But at the end of the day, Justin, this is not my secret to tell. And I only know that Sarah’s pregnant because I ran into her in Chicago and she made me swear.
Swear not to tell anyone, please, Justin. Are you gonna tell Sandra,
I know you gave Sarah your word, but I didn’t. Oh, you’re my wife and I love you, so I will not tell, but I don’t feel good about this. Yum. Mm-hmm. You good? Mm. Even better than I remember it. Although it’s not hard to recall the last time that we had pizza from Brunos. Yeah, the day in the hospital when I almost died the first time.
Crazy. Why that day was a nightmare. Yeah. It seemed like it was never gonna end. Yeah, going from helpless and hopeless to relieved and elated and completely destroyed, those were hands down the worst days of my life. Mine too, and I thank God every day that you came back to me. I can’t believe how lucky I am.
I think it’s more than luck. You worked so hard to find me. Yeah. Who would’ve thought we’d be reunited in the wine cellar of Victor car’s child at home? By boat of all people.
John and I started out trying to find Megan Hathaway on that creek island. No idea you were even alive A few days later. You were in my arms. I think it shows the power of our love no matter what separates us or what odds we’re against, somehow we always find our way back to each other. Yes, we do baby always.
So you’re thinking about moving out too? Are you surprised? No. It’s just, I I thought you liked living here. Yeah, no, I, I, I do. And yeah, I’m, I’m beyond grateful for Doug and Julie, but I mean, there’s, there’s no way I could have gone back to the Mansion after, and, and, you know, the kids and I, we would’ve had love and support.
But I, I, I just, you know, I didn’t wanna be surrounded by all those memories and here, you know, we get so much love and support, but No, I, I totally understand. Yeah. And, you know, besides we, uh, we have a living babysitter, so that’s, that’s very helpful. No, I’m sure Doug and Jill have loved having Charlotte and Thomas here.
Yeah, for sure. But you know, they can be a handful. And, um, and I’m sure that’s, that’s wearing on them. Um, and they would never say anything. So I think it’s, uh, you know, I think it’s, it’s time for me to, uh, initiate and, and probably find a, a place, a fresh start for me and the kids. Yeah. No, I, I think that makes total sense for you to look for your own place.
Yeah. You know, or, um, or we could, we could find a place together.
Did you just ask me to move in with you? Um, yeah, I mean,
uh, that’s not such a crazy idea, is it? Uh, and we, we, we, we both wanna find a new place and, um, and mean we spend most nights together anyway. I know. But the, we work together and if we also live together, yeah. But I, I, I want to go to bed with you every night and wake up next to you every morning, and that sounds wonderful.
What about the kids? The kids are crazy about you. The feeling is mutual. Obviously. This is a really big step. I just, I, I worry that they would think that I’m trying to replace their mother. No, look,
how about this? Um, I’ll talk to the kid’s therapist and, and if, um, if she thinks that, That it’s something that they’re ready for, then I’ll, I’ll find a way to talk to the kids about it. Sounds good. Everybody and the kids would be psyched. What do you mean? They could have a dance party with you whenever they want.
It’d be amazing. No, I, you know, I always love a dance party. Yeah.
Okay. So then if the, if their therapist says, Says yes, and then the kids are happy about it, then, then, then maybe you would be too. I, I would be very happy about it. Is that a yes? Yes. Yes, Chad? Yeah. I would love to move in with you.
If you don’t slow down, you’re gonna eat that whole pizza. All right. I’m gonna eat this whole pizza. It’s impossible to stop. Impossible. Mm-hmm. Don’t believe me. Try a slice. Oh, jalapeno and uh, garlic. No thank you. No, no. Listen, baby. I’m telling you it’s the perfect combination. No, it’s too spicy. Oh, let me tell you something.
The cheese balance is out. The heat. All right. Trust me. It’s a very complex flavor profile. Did you just say flavor profile? Well, yeah, I’ve, um, I’ve been binging Top Chef on Peacock. It’s really expanded my culinary horizons. So, yeah. Mm-hmm.
You want me to eat fungus pizza special, and it’s delicious. I can. Oh, well maybe your horizons aren’t as expensive as you thought.
I’ll try yours. If you try mine.
I’m so sorry, Justin. I never meant to put you in such a tough position. It’s an awful position. If it’s any consolation, which it’s. Probably not. I feel bad for keeping this from Xander too. I just hope when this all comes out, which it will. It doesn’t get too complicated. Well, it might. Xander has a new girlfriend.
He does. Who? Chloe Lane. When did that happen? Just recently. And apparently it’s getting pretty serious. Wait, so Bonnie’s upset that you’re dating me because of Sarah. Right. She’s said it would hurt her feelings. Why? I mean, you and Sarah are divorced. Yeah, I mean, I reminded Bonnie of that and I had to tell her, you know, Sarah has no interest in what I’m up to.
She’s too busy getting busy with Rex Brady. Is that true? Actually, according to Bonnie, no. How would she know? She ran into Sarah when last week she was in Chicago visiting Mimi. Oh, well, I mean that, that explains it. Sarah’s fresh and Bonnie’s kooky little brain. She’s pretending to be concerned about her feelings.
Trust me. Give it a day or two. She’ll be freaking out about something else. All right.
Funko Vic has a problem with me working at Basic Black and seizing every opportunity that I can. He can tell me that himself. I’ll be sure and relay the message and I’ll remember what you both said at all as fair and business. Family be damned. Oh, you know what? Just a heads up. My husband has a reputation of being ruthless when it comes to the competition, but believe me, huh?
Yes, I know what it is. I can slay with the best of them.
Don’t let Bonnie get to you. Trust me, I’ve known that woman since I was a teenager and she’s always been a little off. Well, I mean, I’ve gotten to know Bonnie a little bit over the last few years and trust me this was off even by her stance. But you know what? I’m going to follow your wonderful advice and not worry about it.
Cause I am actually rather content right now. Hmm. That makes two of us. Hmm.
Wait, wait. Did I just hear your stomach growl? Well, in addition to being content, I am actually rather hungry. Mm-hmm. That makes two of us. But there’s no food in this house. Since we both started working, we’ve kind of neglected the grocery shopping duties so. What do you wanna do for dinner? I, I, we too content, but hungry people are going out.
Sandra and Chloe, not two people that I ever guessed were dating, not just dating, living together. You’re kidding me. I told you things were moving fast, Justin. It makes me wonder whether I. Neither Xander would be slamming on the brakes if he knew Sarah was pregnant with his kid. Well, he doesn’t know, and we’ve agreed not to tell him.
So there’s no point in speculating. Can’t help it. Well, are you saying that you think we should tell Xander? No, no, no, no, no. I made a promise to Sarah and I have to. I have to keep it. There you go. There you go. Take these. Take these. I’ll be right back. Oh gosh. Where are you going? I’m going to the pub to get you some chicken soup.
Oh. Guaranteed to hit the spot. Hurry back please. I’ll be right back. Maybe some brandy too.
So what do you think? Um, it’s interesting. How’s yours? Interesting. Yeah. You sure? You don’t wanna take a sip of that cold beer? No, no, no. I’m, I’m fine. Well, your eyes are watery. There’s no shame in admitting this. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
How do you eat that? My mouth is on fire. Yeah. Here. Yes, it is. An acquired taste. Mm, yeah. Well, you acquired a taste for mushroom. No, sorry. Sweetness. I guess we’re gonna have to order two different kinds of pizza from now on. Well, it’s kinda like marriage, you know. Sometimes you agree. Sometimes you have to compromise, and sometimes you just have to let the other person do what they want.
I guess the trick is knowing when to do which. I think we got that down. We definitely do baby.
Get another sip of beer.
Can you believe Maggie? Showing up here acting like I’m some kind of a traitor. You are a liar, Alex. What? You weren’t straight with me, man. What do you mean? I wasn’t straight with you, Brady. I told you Maggie fired me because she thought I botched some kind of major deal. Alex, she didn’t mention that the deal had anything to do with Yuri Kassoff.
Okay. Even when you suggested that we go after his business, that is a liable mission. I didn’t think it mattered. Look, if this is gonna work. You can’t withhold any information from me, none clients deals. You gotta tell me everything. Understood. Why didn’t you just tell me that you had met with Yuri when you were with Titan?
I don’t know, man. I I just figured that if you knew the history, maybe you wouldn’t want to go along with it. Well, imagine that. Alright, look, if you think this is a bad idea, I’ll call Yuri right now and I’ll tell him that we’re backing out. I’ll do it right now.
Well, I am gonna put the rest of mine in the refrigerator so that I can have it from breakfast tomorrow. You know, that’s one of the advantages of not eating the entire pizza on a single night. What’s up?
I’m just thinking about Paulina Stephanie said, and how she couldn’t bring herself to go to the Juneteenth celebration without Abe. I know. So sad.
You know, she was over here last night to see how John and I were doing with the search. Poor woman’s going out of her mind and we had nothing to give her. You will, you are going to bring Abe home and to be without him today must be torture for her. For both of them. Yeah. We both know how hard it is to be apart from the person that you love, especially on your anniversary
all that time. I thought I’d lost you. I was sure I’d never see you again.
And here we are. Devin, a pizza party. I’ll say it again. I can’t believe how lucky I am. You’re both lucky and I am never. I’m gonna take you or our family, or our future for granted. I won’t either. Have I told you tonight how much I love you? You don’t have to tell me, baby. I know.
I love you too. Sweetness.
Alex put the phone down. So you don’t want me to call off the deal? No, I don’t. I What about Maggie? I love Maggie. I care about Maggie. But like I told her, this is business and she wouldn’t expect me to pull out of a deal just to spare her feelings. And besides, we worked our asses off for this. That is exactly what I wanted to hear.
So how about those nachos? Huh? I wouldn’t go celebrate in just yet. Why not? We won. We won the first round. This might be a long fight. You saw Maggie’s face. She’s pissed. I mean, what do you think she’s gonna do? I don’t know, but I know one thing. She’s not gonna take this line down.
You, um, you ready for some dessert? Oh, that depends what’s on the menu. Why don’t you come over here and find out? Oh, uh, Julie, let me in. I’m so sorry to interrupt. No, no, no. Not at all. We were just about to have dessert. Would you like to join? Uh, no thank you. I can’t say. I just, I just came to ask you a question.
Um, okay. Ask away. How would you like to come and work for me at Titan?
So what looks good to you? Everything. Oh, now it’s okay.
Um, Justin, long time no see. Sandra, Hey, you, uh, here for Bite, are you? Uh, no, no. I’m, uh, just here to grab some takeout. Oh, well, why don’t you grab a chair and sit with us while you wait. No, I can’t do that. I’m, uh, I’m in a hurry. I, no, don’t be ded. I’m c crazy. Geez. Come pull up a chair and tell us everything that’s been going on with you.
Sarah, Hey, uh, it’s body Carus. The reason I call you is that. We need to talk. Look, uh, the thing is, as hard as I’m trying, I, I don’t know if I can keep your secret.
