Kevin: Chance. Well, whatever you wanted to talk about must be top-secret since you needed to meet away from the station. What’s up?
Chance: What do you know about ashland locke’s death?
Kevin: Lost control of his car and drove off the road into a ravine. The news was not met with an outpouring of grief.
Chance: You didn’t read the whole police report, did you, kevin?
Kevin: I’ve been up to my neck in it support work. Why? What’d I miss?
Chance: Locke’s death might be more complicated than we first thought.
Victor: So, I understand that everyone who was on the security team assigned to watching victoria’s house was interviewed by the cops regarding ashland locke’s death? That went smoothly? Well, I hope so. You inform me if anything changes, alright? Thank you.
Nick: [ Sighs ]
[ Pen clatters ]
[ Sighs ]
Ashland: Enough, alright?
Nick: You put your hands on her?!
Nick: I can’t feel a pulse.
Nick: Can you find a pulse? Vick. What the hell?
Victor: Are you alright?
Victoria: Dad, what are you doing here?
Victor: What do you mean, “what am I doing here”? I’m here to protect you.
[ Footsteps approaching ]
Sally: Nick. I’m glad you’re here.
Nick: Yeah? Why?
Sally: I have been doing some thinking since we last spoke, and I just wanted to let you know that I am staying at newman media.
Nick: Last time we talked, you seemed pretty adamant about leaving.
Sally: Yeah, well, I was allowing issues from my personal life to cloud my judgment, and i wasn’t thinking about what was right for me. I was just reacting.
Nick: Yeah. That can get you in trouble.
Sally: Yeah, and it did, especially since I was reacting to what adam was saying and doing, which I realized was a huge mistake. I’ve been given a very unique opportunity, and when you’ve been underestimated your whole life and someone finally sees something special in you, you owe it to them to prove they were right for taking that chance on you. And I also want to prove it to myself.
Nick: Good for you, sally.
Sally: And I have you to thank for that epiphany, for being so candid with me.
Nick: Yeah. Actually, I think I owe you an apology, sally. I was, uh, pretty blunt with you. I’m sorry adam is jerking you around. I guess I was thinking he was trying to change so he would stop sabotaging his happiness, but some people just need a healthy dose of chaos in their lives.
[ Cellphone buzzes ]
Sally: Oh, my god.
Nick: What happened?
Sally: Ashland locke is dead. I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,
Victor: Really? That is damn good news. I daresay, after the past few days, we are due some, right? Well, I can’t thank you enough. Yeah. Listen, I’m about to go into a meeting, alright? Talk later. Bye. Noah.
Noah: Sorry I’m late.
[ Cellphone thuds ]
Victor: [ Exhales heavily ] Your grandfather’s a busy man, you know.
Noah: And that’s why i appreciate you taking the time to meet with me. Have you had a chance to look at my proposal about turning the top of the tower in an art space and nightclub?
Victor: I have indeed, and i think it’s a hell of a concept. You spent a lot of time developing it, didn’t you?
Noah: Well, when you’re passionate about something, it can take you to places you never expect. And I think it’s about time you started using that space for something exciting — an experience you can’t find anywhere else in town.
Kevin: What, uh, makes you think there is more to ashland’s death? Were there signs of foul play?
Chance: Nothing I can point to yet.
Kevin: But you’re looking.
Chance: It’s my job.
Kevin: Far be it from me to tell you how to do it, but sometimes a car crash is just a car crash, even when it involves the most hated man in genoa city.
Chance: There’s more to the story. Trust me. And it’s all in the police report. And since I want you to take on a bigger role in this case…
Kevin: I need to be up to speed. Got it.
Chance: Alright, here are the basic facts. So, ashland arrives at victoria’s house, right? Talks his way in. He wants to renew the relationship, but victoria has no interest. Now, ashland had just been released on bail after violating a restraining order, preventing him from having contact with his son. He had also been publicly outed on that podcast as a fraud after he faked his cancer.
Kevin: A prince amongst men.
Chance: He lost his company. He lost his wife.
Kevin: So he’s desperate, angry.
Chance: Exactly. So then nick shows up, right? Checking in on his sister. Walks right into the middle of this whole confrontation. He comes to his sister’s defense. Things escalate between the men. They throw hands. Boom, ashland’s down on the ground. He’s out cold, not moving. Victoria and nick — they check for a pulse. They can’t find one. I mean, they think this guy is dead. So they go outside and they call me, only to go back inside and find that the body is now gone.
Kevin: Wait. So, nick and victoria were too upset to find a pulse, didn’t realize that ashland was still alive. They leave the room. Locke gets up, walks out to his car, gets behind the wheel, loses control and crashes? That’s how he died?
Chance: That is the working theory so far.
Nick: Yeah, I know ashland’s dead.
Sally: I mean, this is huge. Do you have any details? Was — was locke drunk? Was there another car involved? I mean, I know someone may have wanted to run him off the road. He wasn’t exactly at a loss for enemies. But, I mean, this doesn’t say that there was anyone else in the car, so I assume he was alone. How is victoria doing? I know she didn’t want any more to do with him, but, I mean, she was just recently in love with the guy.
Nick: She’s on a trip with her kids. A trip she planned weeks ago.
Sally: I wasn’t insinuating anything.
Nick: You were with your eyes.
Sally: [ Sighs ] Well, i guess it’s a good thing that she’s out of town and out of the spotlight.
Nick: And I know victoria would agree with me when I tell you that I don’t think newman media should dig too far into this story, out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Sally: Except for the fact that this is a story that newman media can tell like no one else. I mean, the death of victoria’s ex, the disgraced former co-ceo of our parent company?
Nick: It’s more complicated than that, a lot more.
Kevin: It makes sense that ashland’s accident is hitting you harder than the rest of us. Losing a partner is not all that dissimilar to losing a spouse. And rey’s death is still very fresh. It can really mess with a person’s head.
Chance: Well, for me, it’s a reminder.
Kevin: That life is short. Yeah.
Chance: No. Not everything is the way it initially appears.
Chance: And if something feels off, don’t be satisfied with the simple answer. When I learned that rey had a heart attack, the whole scenario just made sense. It made sense why he didn’t have the natural reaction to avoid a collision, why he didn’t hit the brakes, why he didn’t try to steer away from oncoming traffic. And that is why I need to know exactly what happened to ashland locke yesterday. I want to know what he did every minute leading up to his death. And you’re gonna help me do it.
Kevin: Me? What can I do? I’m not a cop. I can’t interrogate people. And while I’m sure his car has plenty of microchips inside, you really need a mechanic to analyze that data.
Chance: Go see the medical examiner. She takes her coffee with two sugars.
Kevin: But I have nothing to do with it in her office. She doesn’t even technically work for the gcpd.
Chance: Go see her and tell her how much you like that fantasy role-playing game.
Kevin: Oh, she plays that, too?
Chance: That’s what I hear. And that’s why you’re the perfect man for the job.
Kevin: Unless you’re suggesting that ashland’s death had something to do with the search for a mythical orb, I fail to see the connection.
Chance: You can take this shared interest, and you can butter her up, man. Get friendly. Yeah? I mean, ask her to join your, uh — whatever it is you call a group of people who play that game.
Kevin: A guild.
Chance: Yes. Yes. Guild. And then once you two are guild buddies — yeah? — You make sure she knows that that autopsy is our top priority.
Kevin: [ Sighs ] Alright. I guess that’s simple enough.
Chance: And you make sure you know that police report by heart, man. I’m gonna need you up to speed if we’re gonna figure this out.
Kevin: “We.” Sure. I mean, yes. And I will report right back to you because that is what a good sidekick does. We’re kind of a team now, right? You’re boots on the ground. I’m your guy behind the desk, eyes on everything, plugged in to the mainframe. Yes! Maybe not. But I will see what I can do about speeding up that autopsy, and, uh, I’ll be in touch.
Chance: Thank you.
Noah: The way I envision it, we showcase the art during the day. Now, we can utilize pieces from local artists of the region, as well as the highest end from overseas. I am talking cutting-edge everything — sound, visuals. That space — it can transform in anything we’d like. That’s what’s so attractive about it. It could be a gallery and an event venue and a nightclub. And what’s really exciting is nowadays we can utilize augmented reality to seemingly transform it into it — I don’t know — the summit of mount everest, if we’d like. Or the inside of an impressionist painting by degas.
Noah: Completely immersive. That way, we can take our guests to another time and another space. And I’ll handle curating all the installations myself. That way, it has an authentic gallery vibe to it. And I come in with real-world experience from working at the underground and managing the top of the tower.
Victor: You’re a newman.
Noah: [ Chuckles ]
Victor: You’re very bright. I’m very impressed, okay?
Noah: Thank you, grandpa.
Victor: But… newman towers is a business, okay? And top of the tower is a functioning restaurant that we need to stay open day and night. You understand, right?
Noah: I do. I do. I-I knew coming into this pitch that it was a long shot.
Victor: I can tell you that it’s a brilliant concept. It really is. And combining your artistic… genius with your experience running a nightclub is a recipe for success.
Noah: Thank you, grandpa. That means a lot.
Victor: Having said that, sometimes it’s important when we’re young and growing up to spread our wings. And your father is a very good example. You know, he has undertaken a number of ventures, gained a lot of experience, and now he’s coming back to newman enterprises. He’s gonna apply all he learned to the company I built. That makes me happy and very proud. And one day I know you will come back with all the experiences you have gathered on the outside, okay? You’re a very bright boy. So, go out and spread your wings and earn your laurels, alright?
Noah: [ Chuckles ] Alright. Thank you, grandpa. Adam. He’s all yours.
Victor: Hey, son. I was just thinking about you.
Adam: I’m surprised you didn’t ask the bartender to break out the good stuff. Why don’t you have a tequila in hand, celebrating the demise of ashland locke?
Sally: Complicated usually makes for a good story.
Nick: Not in this case.
Sally: Okay, you should probably tell me what you know about ashland locke’s death before I jump to the wrong conclusions.
Nick: [ Sighs ] I had a confrontation with locke before he died in the car accident.
Sally: A confrontation.
Nick: What I’m about to tell you is completely off the record. It’s not for publication. It’s not information to be shared with anyone else. I spoke with the cops. End of story.
Sally: I see.
Nick: Now, it’s possible that this will eventually get out, so I would prefer it if you heard it from me.
Sally: When you said this was complicated, you weren’t kidding. Especially for the person who you just recently hired as ceo of your family’s media company. For people who are a little intense about hydration.
Allie: Hi. How did everything go with your grandfather?
Noah: [ Sighs ]
Allie: Oh. That good, huh?
Allie: I’m sorry. Well — well, these drinks that I purchased to help us celebrate will now magically transform themselves into beverages that will help concoct your next venture.
Noah: [ Chuckles ] Well, thank you. I’m gonna need all their powers.
Allie: [ Sighs ] Did it really go that badly?
Noah: No, not really. I mean, he turned me down, but I knew it was a hard sell. And the whole way here, i couldn’t help thinking, “at least I get to see allie. I’ll tell her what happened, and somehow everything will even out.”
Allie: And has it?
Allie: Well, we, uh — we should work on plan b, right? Let’s go with the location that your sister suggested.
Noah: Yes. Grand phoenix. Has a trendier feel. That’s the kind of crowd I want to attract.
Allie: And you will get people coming in from out of town, and they probably don’t want to stray too far for entertainment.
Noah: Yes, but it also means working with phyllis.
Allie: I know how you feel about summer’s mom on a personal level, but this is business, right? And she must be good at that since keeping a hotel running is a challenging feat.
Noah: Yeah, but even in her professional life, there’s always some drama swirling around.
Allie: [ Sighs ] I know. But you don’t have to be her best friend. You just need to lease a space from her.
Noah: You know, you’re almost mercenary about this.
Allie: I am practical.
Noah: Alright, well, whatever it is, I like it.
Allie: Well, you know, we should, uh — we should toast. To all the “no’s” that led you here and the one that’ll lead you to that final “yes.”
Noah: Yes. So, about that thought I had on the way back from society…
Allie: Yeah. That thought.
[ Cellphone pings ] Y-you should probably check that text, right? It could be an art emergency or something.
[ Both laugh ] Noah? Noah, what is it?
Noah: Um, it’s, uh… it’s about ashland locke.
Allie: What’s that big jerk done now?
Noah: He’s dead.
Victor: Have a seat, son. I won’t pretend to grieve the loss of ashland locke for one second. He was a bastard, a fraud. Did a lot of damage around here. But that doesn’t mean that you should be glib about his death.
Adam: Why be so serious? I mean, you’re back in control of your domain. This is a win for the newman family. So, I mean, I get why you don’t want to be too happy about it in public. There are so many questions out there. At least, that’s the, uh, sense I got when I ran into chance. Oh, now I have your attention.
Sally: When, precisely — just out of curiosity — did this confrontation take place?
Nick: Before you and I spoke at crimson lights.
Sally: Well, it was obvious something was weighing on you last night, and the last thing you wanted to deal with was my personal drama.
Nick: Eh, that’s the last thing I want to deal with any night.
Sally: [ Laughs ] Fair. But whenever I told you that i was planning on leaving newman media, you responded. You were a little harsh. But, I mean, no wonder, given everything that you were dealing with. And you gave me a lot to think about. It really helped, talking with you, and I would like to return the favor if you’re open to it. ‘Cause this has to be a lot to deal with. I mean, wanting ashland locke out of your family’s life, especially after what he did to your sister, and then you find out he died in a car accident? I mean, that has to be a huge shock.
Nick: You have no idea.
[ Cellphone pings ] Excuse me.
[ Sighs ]
Sally: Do you need to respond to that?
Nick: No, it’s just something else I got to add to my list.
Sally: Was is it about ashland?
Nick: You know, with vick gone, I just have a lot of work to do, like an insane amount of work to catch up on. So, where were we? That’s right. Before you go — and this is on the record… I’m glad you’re staying, sally.
Sally: [ Chuckles ] So am I.
Nick: And, uh, about that story…
Sally: Yeah. I will make sure that we stick to reporting the facts.
Nick: Good. It’s nice to know I can count on you. (Vo) when you live with moderate to severe crohn’s disease
“The young and the restless”
[Sfx: Buzzing ] This is pretection
Allie: I take back everything I said about ashland.
Noah: No, don’T. You said he was a jerk. That’s probably the nicest way anyone’s ever described him.
Allie: Okay, you shouldn’t say that.
Noah: Why not? That’s the truth. Ashland did some abysmal things to a lot of innocent people. He stole their money, their trust, their dreams. Feel bad for his victims. Don’t shed a single tear for him.
Allie: He hurt a lot of people that you loved, huh?
Noah: Yeah. Yeah, he did.
Allie: You must be wondering how your aunt victoria is handling all this.
Noah: She went through a lot these last couple months.
Allie: What is it?
Noah: I’m just thinking. It’s probably nothing, but… I just saw my grandfather.
Noah: He didn’t mention a single thing about that. There’s no way he didn’t know.
Noah: My grandfather just fails to mention this gigantic event that impacts the entire family and the business. Something’s not right.
Victor: I wasn’t aware that you and chance had buried the hatchet.
Adam: Oh, I don’t know if i would go that far.
Victor: Mm. What could the two of you possibly talk about?
Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, first, let me explain to you how it happened.
Adam: You see, I was gonna leave town today.
Adam: I don’t have a job. No prospects. I thought I was due for a little vacation.
Victor: Where did you intend to go?
Adam: Las vegas.
Adam: I was gonna do a little r&r, maybe hit a few poker games. But then I ran into chance in the park. And that’s how I found out about ashland, which tracks because why would anybody in my own family tell me the news?
Victor: Well, you understand that we were quite preoccupied, right?
Adam: Yeah. If you needed anything underhanded or shady done, i would be the first one to know.
Victor: So, exactly what did chance tell you?
Adam: He told me that i should stay in town because my family might need my support. But I didn’t bother to explain to him that I am a newman in name only.
Victor: That is your choice, and you damn well know it.
Adam: You left me no other choice. What was I supposed to do? Just keep letting you use me when you didn’t want to get your hands dirty? Just sit here and play the dutiful son trying to earn your respect? Try to get a little acknowledgment that you were clearly incapable of giving me? Okay, look, we don’t have to get in to this again.
Victor: Well, stop all this nonsense. What did you and chance talk about?
Adam: Well, it was the way that he qualified it that intrigued me.
Victor: Meaning what?
Adam: He said that locke got in a car crash, or at least that was the official version. Makes you think, doesn’t it, why he felt the need to add that extra phrase, as if he might think there might have been a different ending to locke’s story.
Chance: Hey, man.
Chance: Thanks for coming on such short notice.
Chance: Take a seat. Want a coffee?
Nick: No, I’m good. Thanks.
Chance: [ Sighs ] Well, I bet you got your hands full over there at newman with victoria gone, huh?
Nick: I’ve done it before. She trusts me. She knows what I’m doing.
Chance: Yeah. Well, it wouldn’t have been a problem for me to come by the tower.
Nick: No, I think this is better. We don’t need a bunch of cops swarming the tower. The less stories for the rumor mill, the better.
Chance: Yeah. Yeah. Well, listen, I know you got a lot on your plate. And I don’t want to make this difficult situation any harder for you.
Nick: I appreciate that. What’s up?
Chance: Well, I just wanted to update you on the case, let you know what’s going on. And everything I say, you can tell victoria.
Chance: I talked to the security team that was outside the house.
Nick: My dad’s guys. Okay. And?
Chance: It’s weird, man. The stories they told me just lined up to the letter with what your dad told me. I don’t know. It was like they were reading from the same script.
Nick: So, they’re corroborating my father’s version of the events, they’re all in agreement about what went down, and that’s a problem?
Chance: Well, it’s the way they did it. You see, they told me just enough information to get by, right? They were very careful with what they told me.
Nick: Would you have preferred it if their stories didn’t line up?
Chance: Well, when you’ve been doing this as long as i have, nick, you learn to look for red flags.
Nick: Look, chance, the people that my father employs are smart enough to know what they’re doing. They’re just trying to help you get the information you need.
Chance: Okay. Well, you know what? Maybe it’s not that big of a deal. Maybe there’s nothing else to it.
Nick: But you wouldn’t have called this little face-to-face meeting if you didn’t have doubts. I don’t know what else to tell you. When I found locke’s ring, I ran straight to you with that. I have been nothing but open and honest from the jump. I have nothing to hide. What exactly do you want from me? At metro by t-mobile… you can save more…
Allie: Well, there could be plenty of reasons why your grandfather didn’t mention locke’s accident earlier.
Noah: Such as?
Allie: Such as, he wanted to do it out of respect for you and your pitch and the preparation that you put into it.
Noah: That would be sweet and considerate. Those are two things my grandfather is not. Any other explanation for not mentioning locke was dead?
Allie: He could have wanted your father to break the news to you.
Noah: Nah, he likes to handle things himself.
Allie: Okay, yeah, you’re right. It doesn’t make sense.
Noah: Look, ali, unless you understand my grandfather, like how he manages people, how he handles situations — it’s the reason my dad left the company so many years ago. He loves my grandfather, and he’d do anything for him, but he just couldn’t stand being around all the plotting and the scheming anymore.
Allie: He can’t be that bad. Can he?
Chance: Look, nick, I just came here to give you an update and let you know what’s going on. I didn’t mean to upset you.
Nick: Yeah, I’m finding that hard to believe.
Chance: And what makes you say that?
Nick: Chance, cut the crap, alright? You’re family. You’ve had your own issues, but you haven’t had to deal with ashland like we have, with all his scams and his lying and worrying every day what he was gonna do to my sister. But make no mistake — I saw it from day one. But now he’s gone. But the chaos remains. And, yeah, you could say I’m a little wound up.
Chance: And I am trying to cut through that chaos, nick, and get a clear picture of what happened here last night, especially from the moment that the security team called your dad.
Nick: Well, it sounds like my father’s the one you should be consulting. I got to go.
Adam: I came away from my conversation with chance wondering why the police were looking into what appeared to be just a simple car crash. I mean, what do you think?
Victor: That you’re wasting your time asking questions about the damn dead. You’re not concerned about your sister?
Adam: [ Chuckles ]
Victor: Thought about how victoria’s doing, her children are doing? I guess you’re only interested in twisting the knife, aren’t you?
Adam: I think that’s a little bit of an exaggeration. Just yesterday, I came to you and my sister to warn you that you had pushed locke too far, that you had taken too much, and then you just had to rub his face in by having him arrested by simply seeing his son in the park. And make no mistake — he has no doubt that you were behind it. I mean, I couldn’t exactly deny it because it was so obvious and it was completely unnecessary. That’s why I felt compelled to warn you. I knew locke was out of control and he wanted revenge and he was gonna use victoria to do it. So, he wanted to hurt you both, but he was going to use your precious daughter to make his point. But I don’t know what his plan was, you know? But it doesn’t matter now, right? You got your happy ending. You wanted locke gone, and he’s gone. But that was just a crazy coincidence, wasn’t it? Hmm.
Victor: You’re beginning to piss me off. And that’s never a good idea. (Rebecca) this can’t be real.
Noah: Now, I know my grandfather. If he’s playing things this close to the vest, there’s something else going on.
Allie: But what?
Noah: Well, that’s just the thing — I have no idea. I-I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made things sound so ominous. I — no. You know what? Maybe you do need to hear this. That way, you know what my family’s all about. That way, you know what you’re getting yourself into.
Allie: Okay, noah, from the very first day we’ve met, you have peddled this whole story about the twisted, dark newmans and their “arch rivals,” the abbots.
Noah: I am not making this up.
Allie: Okay, and I know there is a history, right? And jack and ashley have mentioned it many times, but they’ve never told me what the exact issue is. And I’ve met your grandfather. He’s pretty pleasant.
Noah: He has good manners. And you haven’t given him a reason to put you on his enemy list, but trust me — that is a place you do not want to be.
Allie: Right. Note to self — don’t antagonize victor newman.
Noah: See? You think I’m kidding.
Allie: Tell me one specific horrible thing that your grandfather did.
Noah: Okay, well… alright, one time he organized a hostile takeover of jabot and stole your family’s entire company.
Allie: Okay, but he doesn’t own it now.
Noah: No, jack was actually able to get it back in abbott hands, but that took years. And if he hadn’t managed to do that, there’s a really good chance that you wouldn’t even be interning at jabot’s lab right now.
Allie: [ Chuckles ] So, what you’re saying is, if the rivalry had ended differently a long time ago, things might have impacted me a little bit.
Noah: There’s still a chance that it might. It’s just a matter of time until my grandfather’s upset with the abbotts again, and there’s a very good chance that you’ll get caught in the crossfire.
Allie: [ Sighs ]
Noah: So I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to run in the other direction.
Allie: Thank you for the opportunity for me to ditch you. No, I-I appreciate it. Seriously. But I’m not going anywhere. And for the record, I don’t scare easily. That manipulative guy that you described your grandfather as — that is not you.
Noah: Alright, look, I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. He’s not just those things. He’s also a very loving and generous man who would do anything for his family. When I was saying all that, i just didn’t want you to get the wrong impression. I didn’t want you to think that —
Allie: That he’s human? That he has contradictory nature within him? People in our families do things to confound and confuse us.
Noah: Like your father?
Allie: [ Chuckles ] He hid his past from me. My family history. I still struggle with that, but I still love him nonetheless.
Noah: Yeah, I feel the same way. But still, you might want to get out while you can.
Allie: Not a chance. How can I even think about leaving when things are just getting good between us?
Chance: Mm. Hey. What’d you find out from the medical examiner?
Kevin: You know, it is amazing how far a coffee, a brownie, and a smile will get you these days. All anybody really wants is to be seen.
Chance: Ashland’s autopsy?
Kevin: Just sent it to you.
Chance: Come on. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. This says ashland suffered blunt force trauma to the head, wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, and pitched forward into the windshield, a blow delivered with enough force that death would have been instantaneous. Okay. Did she mention if she could tell definitively if the injury that killed ashland was caused by the crash impact?
Kevin: I pressed her on that point, and while she said it was a possibility, she wouldn’t go as far as to say it was definitely what happened.
Chance: Alright. Good to know. Good to know.
Kevin: You’re thinking about the fight nick and locke had, wondering if you could connect the dots, right?
Chance: I don’t have an agenda. I’m just trying to evaluate all this evidence and come to the correct conclusion.
Kevin: So, now you’ve seen the autopsy report. You think you have a good handle on what happened?
Chance: Well, I’m getting closer. Walk through this for me one more time, will you? One more time. Now, nick is defending his sister. Nick’s in good shape, right? He throws a punch. Locke falls, and he hits his head on the fireplace.
Kevin: So, that’s your theory? That nick threw the punch that killed locke?
Chance: And if he did, how the hell did that guy wind up dead in a ravine?
Victor: For the last time, son, ashland locke’s death was due to a car accident.
Adam: It’s funny how it worked out for everyone. Except locke, that is.
Victor: You’re showing an awful lot of interest in a man, a dead man, that you didn’t even like.
Adam: I just, um — I find the situation very intriguing.
Victor: You may have walked away from the company, turned your back on our family. Just remember — when one of us is in trouble, the rest of us forget about our differences and we pull together. Therein lies our strength.
Adam: Well, ashland’s dead, so the threat is gone. So, why aren’t you acting like it?
Victor: I don’t give a damn whether that son of a bitch is gone. Do you honestly think that one threat disappears, others aren’t lurking? Look at me. You’re a newman. It would do you well to remember that.
