Steffy: When are you gonna
be fed up and come home?
You have a family here.
Me, thomas, mom, we love
you and we don’t want
to see you hurting.
We miss our family, dad.
I miss you. Finn? I thought you weren’t going to finish your shift till late. Mom.
Taylor: Hi, sweetheart. I’m back.
Ridge: How’s that? A little better?
Brooke: Oh yeah, that’s much better. Ugh.
Ridge: You shouldn’t do that. You carry so much tension in your shoulders.
Brooke: I know. But I won’t, you know, if I have your big, strong hands wrapped around me.
Ridge: Oh yeah? You know, there are other ways you can get rid of tension. And I don’t just mean upstairs. I mean, you could uh, send deacon packing.
Brooke: Uh… really not that simple.
Ridge: Yeah, I know. Probably not.
[Notification rings] Do you mind just…
Brooke: [Clearing throat] It’s thomas. “Overstep?” What is he talking about, overstep?
Ridge: We were having a conversation. Yesterday, I ran into thomas and steffy after I left here, ’cause I needed some air and they um, they were just talking about their childhood, you know? And, about their mother.
Brooke: Their mother?
Ridge: Yeah. They reminded me that I do have another family, with them and taylor.
[Knocking]
Deacon: Yeah, I’m up. I’m up. Come on in. Hey. Uh, the bathroom’s clean. Is there something else you need?
Paul: Look, as long as everything is spotless when the health inspector gets here, a’right?
Deacon: Okay.
Paul: We’re gonna open soon, so I’ve got to start stocking the bar. I just wanted to let you know you have a visitor.
Deacon: A visitor?
Sheila: Well, well, well, well… so, this is where you’re living… in a storage closet.
[Chuckles]
Deacon: This is, uh, just temporary. Until I get back on my feet.
Sheila: You know… this is– this is really ridiculous. Why don’t you just come back to my hotel… … with me?
Deacon: No.
Sheila: Why not?
Deacon: Because I don’t want to let hope and brooke down.
Sheila: Well hope, I understand. But brooke? Seriously?
Brooke: Well, that’s kind of a strange way to put it. I mean, it’s not like you have a second life or another family… and you were always there for them, ridge. I hope you’re not feeling guilty. Are you? I mean, if you are you should spend a little more time with them. I love steffy and thomas. I was there when they were little. I mean, I helped raise them with you. I don’t want them to feel like that. They need to feel secure in their relationship with their father… especially considering who their mother is…
Ridge: And what is that supposed to mean?
Brooke: Well, if they’re really upset about about their little lost “family,” then they should look at their mother. Taylor wasn’t even here for steffy’s wedding. She’s somewhere half-way around the world doing her volunteer work. If she really wanted to be here, she could have, ridge.
Ridge: Let’s not make it sound like she was on vacation, somewhere. She’s working. She’s in africa helping people, people who really need it. She’s been through a lot. What sheila did. I don’t even know what that would do to a person so we should try not to, uh, to say anything against taylor.
Steffy: Mom! I can’t believe you’re here. The one and only taylor hayes is in L.A. What? Did thomas know about this? I’m gonna smack him for not saying anything.
Taylor: No, no, I didn’t tell a soul. I wanted to surprise both of you.
Steffy: Well, you did. Com– come on, here. Let me get your bags. Tell me everything. What is going on here?
Taylor: Everything? Oh gosh, where do I start? How much time do you have?
Steffy: All the time that you can give. I mean, finn’s at work; the kids are napping…
Taylor: Oh.
Steffy: I’m sure you’re dying to see them and hold them… oh, my goodness.
Taylor: Yes. Oh, my gosh, my beautiful granddaughter. And my, beautiful little boy, my namesake. You bet I am.
Steffy: I could wake them up
Taylor: Uh, no. No, don’t do that. Don’t do that. I’ll peek in on them. We can save the hugs for later. But not too much later.
Steffy: Fair warning: You’re not gonna wanna let them go.
Taylor: I’m sure.
Steffy: I can’t believe it! You’re here. What? This is amazing. Oh, my goodness. Hi. So you’re the scientist here.
Paul: Hey deacon?
Deacon: YeaH.
Paul: Do you mind running these waters over to this table?
Deacon: Sure.
Sheila: Wait.
Deacon: What?
Sheila: Seriously, you are working and, and sleeping here?
Deacon: Yeah, what of it?
Sheila: Are you certain that’s a wise decision, crashing at a bar?
Deacon: A restaurant that happens to have a bar. And I’m fine, thank you. I’m avoiding the bottles. Trying to avoid you…
Sheila: Ooh. Ouch. So, you would rather sleep with a mop than sleep with me? Come on. Why don’t you just come back to the hotel? I’ve got more than enough space.
Deacon: No, no. I can’T. Alright? If I get caught hanging out with you, I’m never gonna have a chance to have a place in my daughter’s life. Ridge will make sure of it.
Brooke: Okay, look. I don’t want to make a big deal about this. I don’T. I understand. But what does bother me is thomas and steffy chatting you up, saying how much better your life was with their mother.
Ridge: Is that what you heard?
Brooke: Yeah.
Ridge: I don’t remember saying any– what I said was, they were feeling a little bit nostalgic.
Brooke: Oh, that’s conveniently-timed nostalgia. It was right after you left here angry with me.
Ridge: I’m not angry with you. I’m angry with the situation. I love you. Look at you. How can I… and I can’t hide my feelings about deacon. And about the decision that you and hope are making, I think it’s wrong.
Hope: Sorry, I just…
[Sighs] You two are talking about my dad.
Ridge: Yeah, talking about your dad. Unless he just magically disappeared. You know how this is gonna end. You’re gonna get hurt. There’s a way to avoid this. Doesn’t have to be that way. Why don’t– why don’t you help her? Step up and tell her who this man really is. Why are you guys not listening to me?
Taylor: Kelly’s getting so big.
Steffy: I know.
Taylor: Oh, and hayes, that sweet, little boy… seeing him up close. It is so much better than on the computer.
Steffy: Oh, right? I mean, we loved video chatting with you but nothing compares to having you here. I miss you.
Taylor: Oh, I miss you, too. I’m sorry it’s been so long.
Steffy: Oh, I–I understand. You’ve been busy with work, and volunteering around the world… making a real difference. And I’m really proud of you.
Taylor: Well, thank you. But I should’ve come back for your wedding.
Steffy: I would have liked that. But finn and I understood. It’s fine. Yeah, we und– we understand. You had your reasons.
Taylor: As much as I wanted to be here for you, the thought of sitting across from your father and brooke… I– after all these years, I still find it so difficult. I just… I loved our family so much. I still do–
Steffy: Oh, I know. I understand that completely. And don’t worry about the wedding. All that matters is that you’re here. Motrin works fast to stop pain where it starts.
Sheila: Oh… you’re nervous about the sexual tension between us, aren’t you?
Deacon: Oh, god. You got me. Come on, sheila, we’re friends. That’s it. And even just saying that is flirting with disaster.
Sheila: Well, actually it wouldn’t take much flirting at all. Just come back to the hotel with me. Let’s see what happens.
Deacon: I think I’m better off cuddling with my mop, okay? But, thank you.
Sheila: Okay, fine. But, you know what? This really has nothing to do with threatening your relationship with hope at all, does it? No. This has to do with brooke and this insane idea that you still have in your mind that– that you have a future with her. It’s never gonna happen.
Deacon: What can I say? A boy can dream.
Sheila: What are you doing?
Deacon: I want to do something special for hope and I don’t know what so I thought maybe I’d, you know, I’d text brooke and ask her for some ideas…
Sheila: Oh.
Deacon: What?
Sheila: This has nothing to do with hope. No. You are– you are doing everything you can to reach out to brooke, aren’t you?
Deacon: Bye.
Brooke: I wish you would just trust us.
Ridge: But trusting you means trusting deacon, and I can’t do that.
Hope: Okay, what has he done that’s so horrible since he’s gotten out of prison? Can you name one thing?
Ridge: I can name 20 things but let’s start with one– he hooked up with sheila.
Hope: Okay, okay, that was not the best judgment. But he realized that and he ended things.
Ridge: No, he ended things because he realized how it would look to you. Why do you guys not see that I’m– I’m here because I want to take care of both of you.
Brooke: And we love you for that. But it’s really not necessary.
[Phone dinging] Hope knows that deacon might be a disappointment to her but if she’s willing to take that chance, then…
Ridge: That’s him, isn’t it?
Brooke: Yes.
Ridge: Fantastic. See, that’s what I’m talking about. Why– why does he do this? Why is he around here? He thinks he owns this place? He can text you? He can call you? He can’t do that? How does he get your number? He represents the worst mistake of your life and you’re about to make it again.
Taylor: I love the work I’m doing. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. It’s immensely satisfying helping others… but if I’m being honest, moving to paris, signing up for missionary work… it was all a convenient excuse to stay away. Being far from home, often unreachable. It just made it easier on me.
Steffy: You don’t– you don’t have to say it. I understand. You didn’t want to put on a fake smile, and pretend to be happy while dad lived out his fantasy with brooke. I get it.
Taylor: I don’T. I should’ve let go a long time ago. Why do I still hold onto the hurt from losing your father?
Steffy: Because you thought he was “the one,” mom.
Taylor: Okay, enough about that. I have missed you so much. And I am so proud of you for finding the greatest husband in finn– even though his birth mother is sheila carter. My god.
Steffy: I know.
Taylor: She is not going to cause you any more trouble as long as I’m here. I promise you that.
Steffy: You have no idea how much I needed to hear that. I’m so happy you’re here! Please tell me, you’ll stay for a while.
Taylor: I think I might.
Steffy: Oh, my god. Thank god.
When you have nausea,
Ridge: I’m begging you, both of you: See my side.
Brooke: I do, ridge. I promise you. But how can I deny hope the opportunity to get to know her father? I shielded her from deacon her entire childhood. And rightfully so. But now she’s a grown woman. She can take care of herself.
Ridge: You’re gonna take care of her and you’re gonna protect her until the day you die. It’s never gonna end.
Hope: And I appreciate that, I do. But ultimately, it is my decision to make. And I have chosen to have my dad be a part of my life. And– and if there are consequences, then I will live with them–
Ridge: When there are consequences. When. Hope, I get it. You want to believe in him. And you know what? Who knows? Maybe you’re right. Maybe he is on the straight and narrow, maybe… maybe he is a changed man. Maybe this is not a con. But one day it will be. And it’s gonna end up the way it always ends up–
Hope: And until that day, I will have spent some quality time with my dad, which is something I haven’t gotten much of in my life.
Ridge: No, I understand. You want that little girl fantasy with your daddy. That’s what you want. And what about you? You know who he is. You know exactly who he is. And you know how I feel about him. And still you– I can’t do this.
Brooke: Ridge. Ridge, wait! Ah!
Sheila: No response. How shocking.
Deacon: She’s probably taking her time so she can come up with some really good ideas, alright?
Sheila: You know, I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Deacon: Okay, yeah. I get that you’re jealous but you don’t have to be snarky–
Sheila: Well, wouldn’t you be? If I were making great strides with my son and you weren’t with your daughter?
Deacon: Look, it’s gonna happen for ya. At least I hope it will for your sake. I gotta tell ya, it’s an amazing feeling getting to know my daughter and knowing that brooke supports it? I can’t blow this.
Sheila: You really think you’ve got a shot with brooke?
Deacon: I don’t know. Listen, brooke and ridge’s little romance has survived a hell of a lot worse than me but maybe… just maybe there’s a glimmer of hope?
[Chuckles] It’s the smile. I’m very charming.
Hope: Are you alright? Because ridge just stormed out once again.
Brooke: Yeah, well. It’s okay. He just needs time to think. It’s just really hard on him. It’s hard on me too. But eventually, he’s going to have to accept your decision. He just has to. Honey. Don’t worry, okay? Everything’s gonna be just fine. Ridge and I are solid. Nothing or no one is going to come between us.
Ridge: Oh, steffy. Sorry for coming by unannounced but didn’t want to drink alone.
Taylor: Hey, ridge.
Ridge: Taylor.
