[Alarm chirping]
Tripp: Aren’t you gonna turn that off?
[Both groan]
Chanel: Don’t worry. I got it.
[Dramatic music]
[Soft dramatic music]
[Phone beeps]
Ej: I’ve slept on it, father, and I’ve decided. It’s going to take a little ingenuity, but I’m going to bring giovanni around to the way we do things. He will soon learn to accept that I’m the one in charge here.
Chad: Better not be talking about me.
Ej: Hello, chad, and no. I was talking about johnny.
Chad: Johnny?
Ej: Yes, my prodigal son has come home.
Claire: Theo, hi. Thank you so much for meeting me.
Theo: Sure.
Claire: I got you a coffee. I hope you still take it with–
Theo: No, thanks. I don’t have a lot of time.
Claire: I see.
Theo: So what’s up?
Claire: I-I asked you here today to say that I am so sorry that you were hurt by what happened at your wedding.
Theo: Are you serious right now? “What happened at the wedding”? Oh, you mean when you helped ben kidnap my fiancée and then put on a wedding dress and walked down the aisle so I’d be left there standing alone and humiliated like a total idiot? That’s– that’s what you’re sorry for?
Claire: Yeah, all of that.
[Sultry music]
Ben: [Sighs]
[Chuckles]
[Groans]
Ciara: [Laughs] Hey.
Ben: Hey, you.
Ciara: You were smiling in your sleep.
Ben: Well, I had an amazing dream.
Ciara: Oh, yeah?
Ben: Mm-hmm.
Ciara: Was it about me?
Ben: It was. You got your memory back and we got back together.
Ciara: And then?
Ben: And then I woke up. And here you are. It finally wasn’t a dream. You really came back to me. Our real life together. That’s the dream.
Ciara: Yeah. Quick question.
Ben: Mm?
Ciara: In this little dream of yours, did we… make love?
Ben: We did.
Ciara: We did?
Ben: Mm-hmm.
Ciara: Well, then.
Male announcer: Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.
[Warm music]
Ben: [Groans]
[Grunts] Oh, my god.
Ciara: Oh, my god, babe, I completely forgot about your ankle.
Ben: So did I. Endorphins work wonders apparently.
Ciara: In that case, I will make sure to keep those endorphins going for as long as I can.
Ben: Oh, I’m going to hold you to that though.
Ciara: You know what? I’m hungry. I’m starving actually.
Ben: Oh, well, okay, well, i actually have worked myself up a little appetite too.
Ciara: Yeah?
Ben: I mean, the last thing we ate was what? That leftover chinese food for breakfast yesterday?
Ciara: Mm-hmm. Well, I can go check if we have some extra fortune cookies laying around somewhere. Why are you looking at me like that?
Ben: Just admiring how beautiful you are.
Ciara: That’s it? That’s really all you’re thinking about? You’re not thinking about anything else?
Ben: What else should I be thinking about?
Ciara: I-I don’t know–i mean–oh, okay. Um…
[Clears throat] So… since we’ve been apart I know you haven’t been with anyone else but I, obviously, have. I was with theo. And I guess I’m just assuming that you’re wondering if theo and I slept together.

Chad: Johnny’s here?
Ej: Mm-hmm. He spent the night in the bedroom recently vacated by our brother and our lovely landlord, gabi hernandez.
Chad: I just had a video chat with him like a week ago. He didn’t say he was coming home.
Ej: Nor to me. I suspect he thought the element of surprise would work in his favor.
Chad: Why? What did he want?
Ej: What does every child want from his parents?
Chad: Love and affection.
Ej: Money, chad. They want money.
Chad: Right, well, thomas’s requests are a little bit simpler. Right now he just wants the new trainman film.
Ej: Which costs money, of course. Wait until he becomes an adult and wants to make his own.
Chad: Make his own? Film? Johnny wants to be a filmmaker?
Ej: He’s convinced it’s his “calling.”
Chad: All right. Well, what did you tell him?
Ej: No. Unequivocally. You and I are trying to build back the family business, our legacy. I don’t have spare cash to be throwing around on youthful idylls.
Chad: And how did he react?
Ej: Not well, of course. Especially since he has a gift for persuading people, winning them over, and, therefore, expects everyone to support him in whatever the hell his latest obsession is.
Chad: I doubt he expects that from you.
Ej: There once was a time when he did. A time when I was among those he was able to persuade. But I’ve honed my defense mechanisms over the years. I no longer fall prey to his “gift.” He also has another gift, being market-savvy. Which is why I know he would make an outstanding addition to the company.
Chad: Well, what’s the problem? Offer him a job.
Ej: I did. Last night. He wasn’t interested. Stormed out. Insulted. Outraged. But then what did I expect, right? He’s never interested in any idea that comes from me.
Chad: See now that’s a parental phenomenon I’m familiar with.
Ej: Right, and I’m sure you’ll become even more familiar with that as time wears on. But, chad, I’m sure you know that whereas I’ve always been the mere annoying father or the absentee father, depending on the year, johnny has enormous respect for you.
Chad: Yeah, we’re close. I’m glad he’s home.
Ej: And wouldn’t it be great if he joined the family business?
Chad: Sure.
Ej: And perhaps you could be the one to persuade him?
Chad: Maybe. Yeah, maybe I could. What’s in it for me?
Tripp: What’s wrong?
Allie: Nothing. I just–I thought henry would be up before the alarm so I kind of set it to the last possible minute, but now I’m a little late.
Tripp: Are you worried about chanel?
Allie: I just–I feel like I ditched her last night. And I don’t want her to think I’m doing that again.
Tripp: I get that. You better get moving then. I have to actually head out too. Kayla’s assigning me a new advisor, you know, since snyder–
Allie: Went swimming with the fishes.
Tripp: Yeah.
Allie: Well, if you want to use the shower while I go get henry ready, you can.
Tripp: Well, as long as henry is sleeping in, why don’t we take advantage of the chance to save time and water?
Allie: So environmentally conscious.
Tripp: Oh, yes, always. But that’s not exactly my motivation.
Allie: Me neither.
Claire: Theo, you’re my friend and I love you so much. But ben is also my friend and I also love him. And so when he asked for my help–
Theo: You just couldn’t say no could you?
Claire: Look, I hurt you for ben and for ciara. And, if I’m being completely honest with you, I also selfishly did it for me. Theo, I was desperate for ciara to remember the rest of her life including the part where she didn’t hate me anymore. Where she forgave me.
Theo: Congratulations, claire. You did it. Now ciara remembers that ben is the true love of her life. And I was just… good buddy theo. Destined to forever live in the friend zone.
Claire: Look, I know that there is nothing that I can say or do that will make this easier for you.
Theo: You’re right. But to give you some credit, you did try to warn me. And I do know that if ciara didn’t remember her life with ben now, it just would have happened later. I was bound to get hurt at some point and–it was just a question of when. I know that now. Maybe I always did.
Ben: [Sighs] I mean, I’d be lying to you if I told you I wasn’t curious, but I didn’t want to ask you. I felt like that wasn’t really my business.
Ciara: Okay, well, I’m going to make it your business…
Ben. Ugh.
Ciara: Because I think you should know. Theo and I did not sleep together.
[Laughs]
Ben: Really?
Ciara: Yeah.
Ben: I admit that is a relief.
Ciara: Yeah.
Ben: That is a–that is a relief.
Ciara: Good. Yeah, we were–we were going to wait to do that until after the wedding. But now I’m thinking maybe that was my old self telling my new self that I’m not ready to sleep with anyone but you. And I’m relieved too. I’m glad that I waited. ‘Cause you waited for me. You were faithful even when I left you for another man and even when you thought that I was dead. You were faithful.
Ben: Actually… I have a confession to make. Liberty mutual customizes car insurance
Kayla: Hey.
Tripp: Hey, am I late?
Kayla: Two minutes maybe. Were you hang up at allie’s?
Tripp: I-I, uh–
Kayla: Your father and i couldn’t help but notice that you didn’t come home last night. And, well, I know you weren’t working the night shift. So–
Tripp: How red is my face right now?
Kayla: Just a little.
Tripp: Yeah, okay. Okay, officially embarrassed. It’s bad enough that dad gives me a hard time about stuff like this, now what? You’re getting in on it too?
Kayla: Well, I have to keep up my end, don’t I?
Tripp: Uh-huh. Mm-hmm.
Kayla: Listen, I am so happy that things are going well with you and allie.
Tripp: Me too. She’s a really great person and she’s such a great mom to henry. I-I love hanging out with that little guy. And she totally trusts me with him now, so.
Kayla: It warms my heart. Really it does. Especially after the tough year that she’s had.
Tripp: Yeah, I know.
Kayla: You know, I’m reminded that not that long ago I gave the heads up that she was a survivor and that it’d be best if you took your time. But it was clear that day that you knew exactly what to do.
Tripp: Well, it did help talking to you. I did exactly what you advised. I made sure that allie had enough room to have her own feelings. And let her take the lead. And everything’s worked out really well. There’s only one problem.
Kayla: What could that be?
Allie: Sorry I’m late.
Chanel: Oh, no worries at all, girl. Besides, I was keeping busy in the meantime.
Allie: With what?
Chanel: Just talking with a friend.
Ej: We’re family, chad. Why does there have to be something in it for you?
Chad: Yeah, right. Look, ej, it’s pretty obvious that you’re trying to consolidate power so your children will inherit the ceo mantle when we’re gone. Now, why would I be on board with that when–when back when you wanted nothing to do with the company, I was the one maintaining the family legacy. So that one day, if they chose to, thomas and charlotte would take over.
Ej: Chad, they’re still children who watch a television show called trainman.
Chad: Yeah, right, and they’ll be adults in the blink of an eye. So if you want johnny to have 15 years of seniority on them then I’m going to need some concessions to protect my interests.
Johnny: Hey, uncle chad. Ooh! So what’s up?
Claire: Thank you for saying that, theo, and for understanding why I felt like I needed to help ben. And it was because I-I knew what ciara and he had once had and I just–I worried that–
Theo: I get it, I get it. Claire, it’s okay. I know that the last thing you wanted to do was hurt me. And thanks for the coffee. You got it just right. I’ll be okay.
Claire: Yeah. Of course, you will, babe. So have you given any thought to what you want to do next?
Theo: Actually, I have to hop back on the first flight to south africa. Because it’s not enough that my personal life is crashing and burning, work’s also a mess.
Claire: Oh, no. What–what happened?
Theo: Long story short our social media expert quit yesterday, three days before the launch of our new services, and now I have no idea how I’m going to find a replacement for him in time.
Claire: How about me?
Ciara: You and claire?
Ben: It was just a kiss. We were both so lonely and upset. We were a mess, ciara. We were missing you. And we were vulnerable. And it was a mistake. I pulled away right away. Because I knew I couldn’t be with anybody else but you. I’m sorry.
Ciara: You know what? You have nothing to be sorry for.
Ben: I don’t want you to blame claire either. She has always had our back. She was on our side. She’s really been an amazing friend to the both of us.
Ciara: Yeah, and I have been a terrible one. I mean, she called me a stone-cold bitch. And she’s right. I was horrible to her.
Ben: I mean, hey, the last thing you remembered was almost being set on fire…
Ciara: Yeah.
Ben: Claire being responsible.
Ciara: And I used to only remember the bad things. But now I remember the good things. Like when she helped me find you after eve kidnapped you from our wedding day. And this was also after I had wrongly accused her of trying to sabotage our wedding day. Claire ruined my wedding to theo for real. She even got arrested for it, but she did it for all the right reasons. That’s pretty awesome. Yeah, I have to–I have to go thank her for that. I have to go find her.
Ben: Whoa, wait, wait, wait, wait. You can’t go.
Get ready. It’s time for
the savings event of the year.
Chad: Lil’ G.
Johnny: Uncle chad.
Chad: What’s up, man?
Johnny: Not much. Good to see you.
Chad: Good to see you.
Ej: I don’t suppose you have a hug for your old man?
Johnny: No, I’m good.
Chad: Oh, johnny.
Johnny: My “old man” tell you what he did? That he refused to help me get my career off the ground?
Chad: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Ej: “Film auteur” is not a career.
Johnny: When will went off to hollywood to become a screenwriter, everybody was talking about how talented he was and what a great opportunity this was for him.
Ej: That’s not a great argument since I recall being told will crashed and burned in hollywood and subsequently cheated on his husband. But what will did was different.
Johnny: Why? Because I’m not talented?
Ej: Because you’re my son.
Johnny: Oh, and–and you want me to follow in your footsteps. Yeah. No, thanks.
Ej: Where is this anger coming from, johnny?
Johnny: Well, let’s see. Part of it’s coming from the fact that you canceled all my credit cards without telling me so that you could gain leverage over me and force my hand.
Ej: You were overspending.
Johnny: So tell me that! I mean, give me a chance at least to defend myself.
Ej: I was going to.
Johnny: No, it’s too late. ‘Cause I actually already was with somebody last night and my card got declined. I was mortified, needless to say.
Ej: My apologies then. But if you don’t want to be “mortified,” you could earn your own keep. I’m offering you an opportunity that most young people could only dream of.
Johnny: Okay, dad, I’m going to tell you this one more time, and maybe this time you’ll actually listen. I do not want to work for you.
Ej: Well, then. How about chad mentors you? Chad, wouldn’t you be thrilled to have johnny on your team?
Tripp: Yesterday I had no idea where allie was. And, well, later I found out that she and claire had been detained at the police station.
Kayla: Oh, right. Helping ben kidnap ciara from her wedding.
Tripp: Mm-hmm, right. Right, and I was so worried about allie, you know, and what she had gotten herself into when I saw her being taken to jail.
Kayla: Naturally.
Tripp: Yeah, but she–she showed up to the hospital as soon as she was released and I realized that she’s really important to me. And I think that–I think I’m falling in love with her.
Kayla: Why is that a problem?
Tripp: I guess because I fell so hard so fast. And what if she doesn’t feel the same way?
Kayla: Do you have reason to believe that she doesn’t?
Tripp: No. No, I mean, she said she wants to be with me and only me, but–
Kayla: But you did say before that you thought that maybe there could be someone else.
Tripp: Yeah.
Kayla: But then you also told me that you thought it was nothing.
Tripp: It is nothing. I–well, I mean, there is someone who has feelings for allie but they’re friends and they spend a lot of time together. And it’s nothing more than that. I mean, at least not to allie.
Allie: So, before we start, can I say something?
Chanel: Sure. What’s on your mind?
Allie: I just wanted to make sure you didn’t feel like I blew you off last night.
Chanel: Oh, no, no. It was–it was fine.
Allie: I know it’s just always a little weird between you and me and tripp. And I just never want you to feel like–
Chanel: A third wheel?
Allie: Yeah.
Chanel: It’s all good. And maybe there’s even a fourth wheel now.
Allie: What?
Chanel: I kind of met somebody.
Allie: Where?
Chanel: I went out for a drink last night at julie’s place. And this hot guy sat down next to me. And we had our meet-cute, talked, and it turns out we’ve got a lot in common.
Allie: Really? Like what? People everywhere living with type 2 diabetes
Chad: As much as I’m sure johnny would be a huge asset at dimera, I-I think that johnny should be able to make his own decisions. Follow his passion.
Johnny: Thank you, uncle chad. I mean, you know, I was thinking dimera could make a killing by opening up a media production division. There is so much talent in the chicago metro area and so few first-class facilities. Not to mention you guys could handle your own advertising which would save you tons in the end.
Chad: Well, I could tell that you’ve put a lot of thought into that. And your old man, here, did say you had a keen business sense.
Johnny: Did he?
Ej: That is not at all what I had in mind.
Chad: Well, I think johnny’s idea is worth considering. Don’t you?
Kayla: Are you worried that this person that’s close to allie is somehow going to come between the two of you?
Tripp: Not really.
Kayla: But I don’t–i don’t–I don’t understand then. What’s the problem?
Tripp: It’s just that it–you know, it complicates things.
Kayla: Okay, well, that I understand.
Tripp: Got any advice?
Kayla: Well, only that I think it’s important to maintain your friendships outside a romantic relationship.
Tripp: I know. I know, which is why I’m going to stay cool about this. You know, I just–all I hope is that the three of us can figure out a way to just coexist as friends.
Chanel: What he and i have in common? Well, parental issues for sure.
Allie: Right, I mean, who doesn’t? So go on. He’s cute?
Chanel: Incredibly.
Allie: Hmm, I can’t wait to meet him.
Chanel: We’ll see. We just had one drink and exchanged contact info. And I didn’t know if I was ever going to hear from him again, but then he messaged me first thing this morning. He sent me a thirst trap!
Allie: He did not!
Chanel: He so did! He was shirtless in bed. And, girl, he is so fine.
Allie: Damn. Okay, let me see this picture right now.
Ciara: Believe me, babe, I wish we could stay here forever too, but we have to get that ankle of yours looked at.
Ben: No, it’s–it’s just a sprain.
Ciara: Okay, then. But unless you want to live off a diet of leftover soy sauce packets for the rest of our lives–
Ben: No, it’s not even that I don’t want to leave. I mean, I don’t at all, but we couldn’t even if we wanted to. That limo won’t start.
Ciara: Limo.
Ben: Yeah, we really should have thought about this a lot better before we let shawn leave us here.
Ciara: Mm-hmm. Well, you are a mechanic. I am bo brady’s daughter. So I’m thinking that between the two of us we can get that engine going in no time.
Ben: You’re not wrong. We can fix anything together.
Ciara: Yeah, teamwork.
Ben: Teamwork. All right, help me up. Just like old times.
Theo: You want to come work for me and jj in south africa?
Claire: Well, I think everyone in our friend group would agree that I have been a social media expert since before I could talk. And, I mean, I’ve been elevating you guys forever. And not just because you are my friend, theo, but because I think you do amazing work. I-I’m practically an influencer.
Theo: True.
Claire: And my music, it’s kind of been stalling recently. And I’ve been in this, like, weird place where I’m just trying to figure out what’s next–oh, my god, what am I saying? I’m getting way ahead of myself. I am interested, clearly. You are probably not but if–
Theo: Why–why wouldn’t I be? I mean, your ability to attract an audience is unparalleled.
Claire: [Laughs] I’m not sure if that’s a compliment, theo.
Theo: It’s a compliment in this context. And it’s also a huge plus that you could be up to speed on the job so quickly, but are you ready to start right away?
Claire: I don’t suppose I could do the job from here?
Theo: Sorry, no, you’d have to come back to jo-burg with me… today. To be a thriver
Claire: Well, I mean, there’s nothing really keeping me here in salem.
Theo: What about your family?
Claire: Yeah, it’s not forever, right? And I can visit. Plus, if I want to adventure and travel the world, like I did when I was a kid, there is no time like the present. I do–I-I should just talk to my parents before I fully commit. But–
Theo: Yeah, sounds great. I’m excited.
Claire: Yeah, me too.
Theo: To be honest, I was dreading the long flight back home all by myself.
Claire: Ah, I hope I can get a seat next to you on the plane.
Theo: I’ll make it happen. And, hey, thanks for being willing to do this.
Claire: No, thank you for being willing to let me.
Theo: I’m going to go say goodbye to the fam. But let me know asap, okay?
Claire: Yeah, of course.
Theo: I’m really glad that we’re still friends.
Claire: Yeah, me too. So glad.
Tripp: I really want to tell allie how I feel, but I don’t want it to seem like I’m “staking my claim” or something, especially after what she’s been through with charlie. I should just wait, right?
Kayla: I think that you should follow your instincts. I think that you are a smart and sensitive man. And I think that you’re going to know when the time’s right.
Tripp: I hope so.
Kayla: I will tell you this. Love is always a risk, but if you don’t put your heart out there, you will never know.
Allie: What’s your passcode? I want to see this hottie.
Chanel: Sorry, can’t show you his picture.
Allie: Dupree, do not hold out on me right now.
Chanel: I am not. It’s gone now, and you know it’s taboo to screenshot.
Allie: Okay, fine, but at least tell me his name. I mean, maybe I know him.
Ej: I just finished saying we don’t have money to spend on frivolous boondoggles–
Johnny: It’s not frivolous!
Ej: It is! And the answer again is no.
Johnny: Now, I know what this is about. You’re pissed that mom cheated on you, so you’re taking it out on me.
Ej: That is not true.
Johnny: You know, whatever. It doesn’t matter. I’ll find somebody else to support my dreams. Hell, I’ll do it myself. I’ll do odd jobs. Drive a taxi. Mow people’s lawns. Whatever it takes to pursue my passion.
Ej: Hmm, passion number 369? How high are we going to go, johnny?
Johnny: Now, don’t–don’t you dare belittle my talent and my drive! I’m going to make it, dad. If there’s one thing I will never do? It’s work for dimera. And thank you, uncle chad, for treating me with some respect.
Ej: “He can make his own decisions? Follow his passion? Johnny’s idea is worth considering?”
Chad: Well, we hadn’t come to terms on what’s in it for me.
Ej: To hell with family loyalty then?
Chad: Oh, okay. And do I have to remind you that just weeks ago you solicited my support to oust our brother then tried to screw me over by installing yourself as sole ceo?
Ej: Which was a misunderstanding that I thought we worked through.
Chad: Yeah, and we have. Just don’t try it again, big brother.
Ej: I have work to do. I’ll see you at the office. Shingles?
Tripp: Okay, so I have two options. I tell her that I love her. Or I don’T.
Kayla: Yeah.
Tripp: Yeah.
Kayla: Yeah, I’d say those are your two options.
Tripp: Yeah, maybe I should just flip a coin and leave it to up to fate?
Kayla: You know, I’m sorry. I know how hard this is. But if you do decide to tell allie how much you love her, I hope it goes your way.
Tripp: Thanks.
Kayla: Sure.
Tripp: And, hey, look, I know my cardiology rotation is on deck, but I hope the next time I come to you for advice about someone’s heart it’s not mine.
Kayla: Yeah.
Chanel: What makes you think you know this guy?
Allie: Did you forget that I’m a horton and a brady? If I don’t know him, someone in my family probably does.
[Phone chimes]
Chanel: Ooh, maybe this is him. Oh, shoot. It’s my mom. She’s reminding me that I have to go to the bank to finish signing paperwork for the bakery. Let’s finish this later, okay?
Allie: No, sure, I’ll see you later. Wait, dupree, you never even told me his name!
Johnny: Yo, allie cat!
Allie: Oh, my god, johnny!
Theo: Hey, uncle.
Chad: Theo. Hey, man, it’s good to see you.
Theo: Likewise, came by to see if…
Chad: How are you doing?
Theo: Came by to see if you were back.
Chad: I am. Man, I am–you know, I’m sorry I couldn’t make the wedding. How was it?
Theo: You didn’t really miss much. Turns out that I am headed back to south africa. Alone.
Chad: What? No.
Theo: Ciara and ben are back together.
Chad: Oh, dude–man, I’m–I’m so sorry.
Theo: Thanks. You got time for a tie-breaker before I go?
Chad: Oh, yeah. I’m not letting you win this time though.
Theo: All right, let’s see your a-game then.
Claire: Mom? Dad?
