ABC NEWS ANNOUNCES TWO-HOUR ā€˜20/20ā€™ ON THE BLACK WIDOW KILLER11 YEARS AFTER CONVICTIONS FOR MURDERING HUSBAND AND ATTEMPTING TO MURDER THE DAUGHTER SHE TRIED TO FRAME
Prime-Time Event Features Exclusive Prison Interview With Stacey Castor From ABC News Archives and Interviews With Investigators, Defense Team and Family Members of Victim David Castor
With two husbands dying within five years of each other, Stacey Castor appeared to be a victim of terrible misfortune and circumstance. In a bizarre twist, the mother of two from upstate New York became the prime suspect in the sensational case of secrets and lies that made national headlines for the murder of her second husband by poisoning him with antifreeze, and the attempted murder of her daughter whom she tried to frame for the deaths of both husbands. Eleven years after Staceyā€™s conviction, ABC News announced a two-hour ā€œ20/20ā€ on the central questionā€”could a mother really be capable of these unspeakable acts against her own family? The prime-time television event on the Black Widow killer digs deeper into how this terrible set of crimes altered lives and this community forever. The program features interviews with investigators, Staceyā€™s defense team and family members of her second husband and victim, David Castor, as well as the exclusive jailhouse interview with Stacey with Anchor David Muir from ABC Newsā€™ archives. ā€œ20/20ā€ airs Friday, Feb. 21 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on ABC.
The program includes interviews with Onondaga County Sheriffā€™s Office Detective Dominick Spinelli and Sgt. Michael Norton, who were the detectives on the case; Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick and former Onondaga County Chief Assistant District Attorney Christine Garvey, who prosecuted the case; Chuck Keller, Staceyā€™s defense attorney; David Castorā€™s sister Linda Horzempa, son David Castor, Jr., and first wife Janice Poissant Farmer; Gabriel Ramos, Kellerā€™s private investigator; WSYR News Channel 9 anchor Christie Casciano and senior reporter Jeff Kulikowsky, who reported on this case extensively and more. The program also features the exclusive interview from ABC News archives with Stacey Castor from prison by anchor David Muir, in addition to Staceyā€™s mother Judie Eaton and daughters Ashley and Bree Wallace.
In 2000 doctors determined that Staceyā€™s first husband, Michael Wallace, died from a heart attack, and in 2005 the coroner initially ruled that her second husband, David, killed himself by ingesting antifreeze. Detectives were suspicious about Davidā€™s death because of forensic evidence and inconsistencies in Staceyā€™s story, and as a result, placed wiretaps on her phones and monitored her movements. In 2007 investigators exhumed Michaelā€™s body, and the medical examiner determined he died, not of a heart attack, but from antifreeze poisoning. When Stacey called 911 claiming her daughter, Ashley, had poisoned herself with pills and vodka, and that there was a typed suicide note claiming responsibility for killing her dad and stepdad, authorities became suspicious that Stacey tried to kill her daughter and frame her for the deaths. Soon after, they arrested Stacey at the hospital, where Ashley was recuperating. ā€œ20/20ā€ and Muir followed the case and trial for 18 months, obtaining exclusive access to both sides of the case as they prepared for trial. In 2009, the jury convicted Stacey of murdering her second husband, attempting to murder her own daughter, and filing a fraudulent will to inherit Davidā€™s estate. The judge sentenced her to the maximum penalty of 51 ā…“ years to life in state prison. She died in prison in 2016 from what officials ruled to be a heart attack. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 2/8/19)
ā€œ20/20ā€ is anchored by David Muir and Amy Robach. David Sloan is senior executive producer

ā€œ48 HOURSā€ INVESTIGATES THE DEATH OF A HOLLYWOOD THERAPIST AND POPULAR AUTHOR IN ā€œTHE LIFE AND DEATH OF AMIE HARWICKā€ Preview
In life, family therapist and author Amie Harwick devoted herself to helping others work through their personal struggles. Now, her shocking death is putting a spotlight on domestic violence. Her former fiancƩ, Drew Carey, is among those calling for updated laws that will ensure the safety of victims, something Harwick was passionate about in her practice.
Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS go inside the investigation of what happened leading up to Harwickā€™s death, and talk with those who were closest to her in the final weeks of her life, in ā€œThe Life and Death of Amie Harwickā€ to be broadcast Saturday, Feb. 22 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
In the early morning hours on Feb. 15, Los Angeles police officers responding to a call of a ā€œwoman screamingā€ found 38-year-old Harwick lying on the ground, battered and unresponsive beneath the third-floor balcony of her Hollywood home. According to police, inside her apartment there was evidence of a struggle and forced entry. Harwick was transported to a hospital, where she later died from blunt force injuries to the head and torso, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The medical examiner also indicated that Harwick had been strangled before falling over the balcony. A trail of evidence soon led homicide investigators to Harwickā€™s ex-boyfriend, 41-year-old Gareth Pursehouse.
48 HOURS learned that during the course of their relationship in 2011 and 2012, Harwick had filed for temporary restraining orders against Pursehouse, detailing allegations of violence and stalking. The restraining orders had since expired. Four days after her death, the Los Angeles District Attorney charged Pursehouse with one count each of murder and first-degree residential burglary with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, which makes it eligible for the death penalty, and carries a minimum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In emotional, revealing interviews, Moriarty talks with friends of Harwick who open up about her fears of abuse and how her work deeply helped others. Harwickā€™s best friend, Robert Coshland, tells Moriarty that she texted him just minutes before police say she was attacked.
ā€œWe texted, you know. I sent her my last text at probably 11:00 at night. She responded to me at like 1:01,ā€ Coshland says.
Coshland went to sleep having no idea Amie had been assaulted. But when he heard the next day, he immediately told police that he knew who was responsible.
ā€œAnd they were like, you know, ā€˜Do you know who might have done this?ā€™ And I was like, ā€˜Yeah, Gareth,ā€™ā€ Coshland says.
Coshland tells Moriarty that Harwick had told him, ā€œIf anything ever happens to me, you know itā€™s him.ā€
Moriarty also sits down with Harwickā€™s close personal and professional friend Dr. Hernando Chaves, who describes being with Harwick when she ran into Pursehouse weeks before her death putting her back on his radar.
The broadcast also includes people who knew Pursehouse and have first-hand knowledge of how he felt about Harwick.
Moriarty also talks with stalking and violence expert forensic psychologist Kris Mohandie.
Harwickā€™s death is the latest to bring calls for changes in what many say are outdated and ineffective laws to protect victims of stalking and domestic abuse.
More than 7.5 million cases of stalking were reported in a single year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 48 HOURS: ā€œThe Life and Death of Amie Harwickā€ explores the extreme, often debilitating toll that stalking takes on victims. Several survivors explain in vivid terms what it feels like to be targeted and how being stalked irrevocably changed their lives. They also talk about how Harwickā€™s death reigniting calls to change stalking and domestic violence laws, and making sure her death is not in vain.
