  • CBS 48 HOURS – Saturday, Feb. 29 Show More
Airing Saturday, Feb. 29 (10:00PM) – A TEEN LEARNS SHE’S THE TARGET OF A HIT ON THE DARK WEB, AND “48 HOURS” GOES ON A GLOBAL MANHUNT TO FIND THE SHADOWY FIGURE BEHIND MURDER-FOR-HIRE WEBSITES
“48 Hours” Investigates in “Find Yura – Manhunt on the Dark Web” Sneak Peek
Alexis Stern, a teenager, was driving near her home in Big Lake, Minn., in July 2018 when she got a shocking call from police. They told her someone had gone to a murder-for-hire website on the dark web looking to have her killed.
Peter Van Sant and 48 HOURS investigate the alleged plot to kill Stern and go on a global hunt to track down the elusive mastermind behind several hit-man-for-hire websites, in “Find Yura – Manhunt on the Dark Web” to be broadcast Saturday, Feb. 29 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
It’s a trail 48 HOURS has been on for more than two years, using information from a source to tip authorities and helping to expose about 20 active murder plots. At least four of the cases have ended in arrests, convictions and prison terms. The hunt for “Yura,” whose identity and location is unknown, led to England, India, the Eastern European country of Moldova and eventually culminated in a dramatic encounter in Queens, N.Y.
For Stern, the terror hit very close to home.
    “It definitely changed my life
I kept looking over my shoulder,” she says.
She says that the fear was heightened because she had a gut feeling about who had paid Yura for her murder – a man 48 HOURS later would track to a house outside London.
“I didn’t know who I could trust,” says Stern, who speaks openly of the threat against her and the fear it caused her family. “I could be killed on my way to work. I could be killed on my way home from school.”
She realized it would be just that easy, in part because the hit man sites on the dark web can inflame people inclined to violence. As the 48 HOURS investigation reveals, anyone with money and a computer can find websites advertising hit men for hire on the dark web, which is an anonymous layer of the internet hidden beneath the one we all know. Many of the sites are scams. But Yura apparently has made millions because his customers think they are buying real hits.
And as Van Sant’s investigation revealed, there is no shortage of customers all over America and all over the world. For his part, Yura promises deadly results.
“We have hundreds of gang members, criminals and other people who love to kill for money,” he says in a video diary supplied to 48 HOURS.
Navigating the dark web can be tricky – even dangerous. So 48 HOURS hired a dark web intelligence analyst, working under the alias Lisa, to scour the digital world for Yura’s real identity and location.
“Everybody can be found,” “Lisa” says. “Yura can be found.”
