Philip joins Maggie at the hospital and says there’s no change as the nurse said Xander is still unconscious, so Sarah is still with him but she knows they are there if she needs anything. Maggie guesses they will just stay there and keep praying. Philip tells her to let him know if she wants to go back to the chapel. Maggie thanks him and mentions that Victoria’s nanny agreed to stay as long as needed. Gabi then arrives and greets Philip, who questions what she’s doing there. Gabi reveals that Maggie called her. Maggie says she thought Philip could use the support, so he thanks her as he and Gabi embrace.

Marlena sits at the Brady Pub, looking at her message from Sydney that sent Dominic Marino’s contact information. Tate arrives while on the phone with Joy, excitedly telling her that’s great news and he will bring the rest of her things from the Pub when he comes for their next session. Tate then joins Marlena, who asks what Joy’s good news is. Tate informs her that Joy is starting to get feeling back in her legs.

Holly sits with Mason in Mason’s room above the Pub as he finishes a call on the mental health hotline. Holly compliments how great he was with the caller. Mason says he just follows his training and hopes to make a difference, but a lot of times you never know.

Kristen walks through the town square wearing sunglasses and a hat as Lani calls out to her that she forgot her receipt.

Gabi questions what happened and who shot Xander. Philip explains that they don’t have all the details but Sarah said it was George O’Halloran of DiMera Pharmaceuticals as they were trying to get George’s laptop because they believed it held the evidence that George altered Destiny’s test results to make it look like Sarah was responsible for her death. Gabi mentions hearing that Destiny’s family was suing Sarah, which Maggie says is based on a pure lie as Sarah had nothing to do with her death. Gabi questions George doing this while Maggie says it was George and his boss, EJ.

Tate explains to Marlena that according to Joy, Alex lifted her to put her in her wheelchair and she felt her legs, so if there’s continued improvement, she might be back on her feet soon. Marlena calls that wonderful and says it’s good to hear positive news for a change. Tate asks if she’s okay.

Holly tells Mason that when he pitched her the hotline, he thought they’d be in a call center. Mason says it’s a little weird at first, but once you focus on the voice on the line, it doesn’t matter where you are. Holly talks about being nervous to get on the line. Mason encourages that if she gets stuck, she can call a supervisor to take over. Mason then gets a call on the hotline from Sophia.

Sarah holds Xander’s hand at his side and says that he saved her life, so now she needs him to stick around to be in it. Sarah cries that he has to help her raise their daughter and come back for Victoria and for her. Sarah pleads with Xander not to leave her as she loves him so much as Brady appears in the doorway and looks on.

Lani catches Kristen in the town square and says she knew it was her as she questions what she’s doing there. Kristen questions how she knew it was her. Lani says she recognized her walk. Kristen says she was always an excellent detective. Lani says she’s also her friend and hugs her, saying it’s good to see her but asks again what she’s doing there. Kristen asks if they can take this somewhere private.

Tate asks Marlena if it’s Rachel. Marlena assures that Rachel is fine and adds that Xander came through his surgery. Tate questions what happened to Xander.

Gabi states that Xander risked his life to prove Sarah’s innocence. Philip responds that he still loves her very much. Maggie knows Gabi and Xander have had a complicated relationship. Gabi says she’ll never forget how strong and supportive Xander was when Arianna went missing, which kept her sane and focused. Maggie talks about Xander checking on her every morning after Victor died, even while he was mourning himself. Philip adds that for a long time, he thought Xander wanted him dead, but he was just a roadblock on his path to being CEO. Philip recalls testing Xander by pretending he was choking to death and he rushed to save his life without hesitation, which is when they turned a corner and really became brothers.

Kristen and Lani walk to the park to sit together. Lani questions what is going on. Kristen calls it a really long story. Lani asks if she means the story as to why she left or why she’s here now. Kristen explains that she came back for Rachel. Lani mentions hearing she was in the hospital and asks how she is doing. Kristen says she’s much better and recovering. Lani knows she must’ve been so worried. Lani then asks Kristen to tell her why she left town without saying goodbye and now she’s sneaking around, clearly worried about being seen. Lani questions who Kristen is hiding from. Kristen informs her it’s EJ and also Brady because she promised Brady that she is leaving town. Kristen assures that she is leaving soon but there’s one loose end she needs to tie up.

Mason asks Sophia why she called the hotline. Sophia guesses she needed someone to talk to. Mason says that’s why he’s here and asks for her name. Sophia claims her name is Amelia. Mason asks how he can help. She responds that she’s been talking to someone else recently, but she’s visiting Salem and wanted to hear a friendly voice. Mason says he thought she sounded familiar and asks if they’ve talked before but she claims they never have. Sophia talks about it being awhile since she saw her family and part of her thought she’d never see them again, so it brought up a lot of feelings. Mason asks how she would describe those feelings. Sophia guesses part of it was joy because she loves them and misses them, but there was also a lot of sorrow, anger, and guilt. Mason questions what she has guilt over. Sophia responds that she and her mother really love each other but also really hurt each other, so it was hard for both of them to let go. Holly looks concerned as she listens in. Mason asks if Sophia wanted to let go. Sophia says it’s what she had to do, but thinks it gave her closure so she feels relieved. Sophia adds that she almost didn’t see her when coming back to Salem, but she’s really glad she did. Mason says he’s glad she did too and asks if there’s anything else she wants to talk about today. Sophia says that’s all for now and quickly hang up. Holly tells Mason that she knows this will sound crazy, but she swears that woman sounded exactly like Sophia Choi. Mason admits he was thinking the same thing.

Lani questions Kristen leaving again. Kristen says she has no choice. Lani says she doesn’t understand. Kristen tells Lani that she did something terrible that she’s really ashamed of. Lani asks what is new, but Kristen insists this is really different. Kristen brings up their time at the convent and how she really felt peaceful there. Lani asks if she feels like she needs to go give a confession. Kristen doesn’t think a priest would survive this one. Lani asks if talking to her would help her out. Kristen admits that it would.

Maggie tells Philip and Gabi that Sarah doesn’t want to leave Xander, but she convinced her to go home to Victoria and that she and Philip would take turns sitting with Xander until she got back. Philip agrees that he’s not going anywhere, so Maggie tells him he can go in first. Philip tells Gabi that she doesn’t have to stay, but Gabi assures that she wants to.

Marlena reveals to Tate that Sarah said Xander was shot by the head of DiMera Pharmaceuticals. Tate questions if this has something to do with Holly being poisoned since he knows Xander was trying to prove EJ was behind it. Marlena says she doesn’t know but she knows that EJ is being questioned by the police. Tate asks if he’s going to be arrested. Marlena says she doesn’t know as she doesn’t think there’s enough concrete evidence tying EJ to the poisoned drugs. Tate calls it crazy as he questions how EJ keeps getting away with all of this stuff. Marlena remarks that EJ committing a crime and getting off scot free is the DiMera way and always has been.

Philip sits at Xander’s side in the hospital and jokes that he must love having everyone that’s dear to him telling him how much they love him and how brave he is. Philip says that Maggie said his stubbornness will get him through this. Philip then says he’ll deny saying this, but he never had a better friend and wouldn’t want to run Titan without him as he urges Xander to open his eyes.

Lani questions Kristen using a mentally unwell girl to try and kill her nephew. Kristen says she wasn’t thinking clearly and gets why Lani is horrified, but in her mind, she thought watching EJ suffer the loss of his child would somehow even the score for what he put Rachel through. Lani argues that Kristen is talking about killing an innocent man, who happens to be her sister’s husband and the father of her niece and nephew. Kristen responds that she thanks God every day that Johnny survived and says she can’t defend anything she did. Kristen says she’s really sorry for the people she hurt and when she came to her senses, she wanted to apologize or atone somehow, but she didn’t have a chance because EJ found out and vowed revenge. Lani guesses she was afraid EJ was going to kill her. Kristen tells her that he all but said he would, so she disappeared fast. Lani admits she can’t blame EJ for his reaction or Kristen for staying away from him and asks if this means she can’t see Rachel anymore. Kristen says even if EJ wasn’t out to get her, Brady has made it clear that he doesn’t want her around Rachel because he knows what she did and said that Rachel would be better off without someone like her in her life. Lani doesn’t know what to say. Kristen says she doesn’t want to burden her with this or expect her to understand. Kristen remarks that she’s glad Lani isn’t a cop anymore but Lani then reveals that she actually kind of is. Kristen questions what that means. Lani reveals that the Governor granted her a full pardon, so she’s in process of on boarding back with the department, but she doesn’t have her badget yet which is good for Kristen because she would’ve been obligated to report everything she just told her. Kristen guesses that she shouldn’t tell her the rest. Lani can’t believe there’s more. Lani guesses if Kristen was arrested, it would be difficult to pin her because Sophia committed the crimes and she’s dead, so she couldn’t testify that Kristen pressured her to kill Johnny.

Mason tells Holly that he wasn’t going to bring it up, but last night in the park, he thought he heard Sophia’s voice but when he turned around, no one was there. Holly relates to thinking she saw Sophia in the town square but it wasn’t her and adds that when she was first poisoned on Smith Island, she thought maybe it was Sophia since she had drugged her before, but she knew that was impossible. Mason guesses they’ve both just had Sophia on their brain as they admit she still looms large on their life. Holly suggests they can help each other work through their issues. Mason’s shift on the hotline ends, so they decide to go have coffee downstairs at the Pub. They exit Mason’s room together right as Tate arrives and sees them.

Maggie tells Gabi that Philip really appreciates her coming. Gabi says she’s grateful that she called as she wants to support them both however she can. Maggie is glad they have a moment alone since she hasn’t had a chance to properly thank her for helping to save Titan. Maggie says they wouldn’t have their company or their home without her, so she wants to thank her from the bottom of her heart. Maggie comments that Philip and Gabi seem good with each other this time, so she’s glad they found their way back. Gabi admits she didn’t see it coming, but he makes her happy and after losing Stefan, she wasn’t sure she’d feel that way again. Maggie encourages that it’s mutual. Maggie brings up Philip’s thrilling victory at the casino that helped save the company. Gabi calls it one of the most exciting nights of her life. Maggie imagines it was an incredible high. Gabi asks if she’s asking if they need to worry about him falling off the wagon with gambling. Maggie states that as a recovering addict, it only takes one time. Gabi tells her that Philip promised it would only be the one time and she believes him, but she will keep an eye on him. Maggie thanks her and says that makes two of them.

Philip comments that Xander saved Sarah’s life by jumping in front of a bullet and that proving how much he loves her. Philip declares that they are fated to be together and their love story doesn’t end here. Philip urges Xander to fight for his daughter and for him as they saved the company and the house. Philip calls Xander the best friend he’s ever had and insists they have years left to make each other miserable. Maggie then walks in, so Philip tells her it’s her turn. Philip exits as Maggie sits at Xander’s side.

Tate questions what Holly is doing there. Holly informs him that Mason just moved in, so she was observing his shift at the mental health hotline. Tate questions doing that in Mason’s room. Mason explains how the hotline operates remotely and they just need somewhere private. Mason decides to go and says he’ll talk later as he exits. Holly guesses this is a surprise. Tate says she could say that.

Kristen tells Lani that she’s done with her confession for the day and asks how Lani, the kids, and Eli are. Lani says that they are all good. Kristen bets they are happy about the pardon. Lani says it feels like they can all finally move on. Kristen asks how Abe and Theo are. Lani says they are still grieving Lexie but doing good. Kristen says she misses Lexie and that she wasn’t there long, but she got pretty close. Lani brings up having the memorial in a few days. Kristen wishes she could be there to celebrate Lexie’s life, but Lani doesn’t think that’s a good idea.

Mason goes downstairs to the Pub and joins Marlena at her table. Mason tells her that he just finished a shift at the mental health hotline and how Holly listened in as an observer. Mason says he only had a few callers but it went well as both callers seemed better afterwards which Marlena says is all they can hope for. Mason offers to get another coffee or tea but Marlena says she needs to get home, so Mason asks if he can ask her something. Mason tells Marlena that he spoke to Sophia on the hotline before and just now, the caller on the phone sounded a lot like her so for a moment, he was right back there feeling the loss and regret. Marlena advises him that it’s always best to talk about it.

Maggie talks about being used to seeing Xander so still like this as he’s usually bouncing off the walls with big plans or grand gestures. Maggie says that like Victor, Xander has great vision and a great capacity to love but also to hurt. Maggie knows she’s been hard on him, but says he deserves it most of the time. Maggie talks about watching him put in the work to deal with his anger and never give up on the company or his family. Maggie cries that tonight, he saved her daughter’s life and asks how she can ever thank him for that.

Philip goes home with Gabi and tells her that it broke his heart when Victoria asked when Xander was coming to read her a story. Gabi talks about Sarah holding it together and staying strong. Gabi encourages that Xander will pull through this. Philip thanks her for coming back with him but asks if she has somewhere to be. Gabi says she’s not going anywhere as he was there for when Stefan died and now it’s her turn to take care of him, while this time will be a happier outcome as she hugs him.

Lani wishes there was more she could do to help Kristen. Kristen can’t believe how supportive she’s being after what she told her. Lani says Kristen is her girl and they have been through hell and back together. Lani knows she is terribly sorry for what she did. Kristen responds that sorry isn’t enough. Lani agrees but says she’s choosing to forgive and she can see that Kristen is punishing herself. Lani feels Kristen has suffered enough being separated from her daughter. Kristen calls Lani the best person she knows as they embrace. Kristen says she has to get moving now, so Lani tells her to take care of herself. Kristen says she’s really glad she ran in to her. Kristen wants Lani and her family to have the most amazing time in their life. Lani hopes Kristen and Rachel can reunite soon. They recall Mother Superior in the convent telling them that God is always with them. Lani asks Kristen to commit no more crimes as they say they love each other and Kristen walks away.

Marlena goes home and pulls out her phone to call Dominic Marino, but it goes to voicemail. Marlena leaves a message, saying she thinks they need to talk.

Holly asks what Tate is doing there. Tate explains that he was grabbing a few things from Joy’s old room and says that’s going great as he just got news that Joy is getting feeling back in her legs. Holly calls that awesome and says he must be really helping her. Tate says it has nothing to do with him, but asks if Holly heard about Xander. Holly says she hasn’t. Tate reveals that Xander was shot and just got out of surgery. Holly is shocked and asks if he’s going to be okay. Tate says they don’t know. Holly decides she has to get to the hospital to be there for Maggie and Sarah, so Tate says he will drive her and they walk off together.

Maggie remains at Xander’s side, saying she wishes Victor was there to see the man his son has become as he would be so proud and maybe even call him a chip off the old block which is the highest compliment that Victor would pay anyone. Maggie tells Xander how much Victoria and Sarah need him. Maggie cries that they are still a family and that she should’ve been telling him these things while he was awake, but she believes it’s never too late. Maggie knows she’s said he’s done things that are unforgivable, but she forgives him and loves him.

Philip tells Gabi that everyone talks about Xander’s anger issues, but he can’t tell her how angry he was when he found out Victor left Titan to Xander. Philip recalls marching back in town with Vivian’s forged letter, determined to humiliate Xander and drive him out of the family, but he learned that Xander loved Titan and loved his family as much as Victor did and as much as he does. Philip cries that he realized he needed his brother, he loves him, and can’t imagine life without him as Gabi hugs him.
