Days of Our Lives Update

Leo meets Javi at Small Bar. They talk about how they were both early and took walks around the block before coming in. Javi admits he saw Leo but didn’t want to interrupt his singing. Leo guesses Javi is going back to work after this. Javi confirms he has a little under an hour for his lunch break. Leo talks about being nervous even though they are here just as friends with no romantic agenda. Leo insists that he’s not trying to charm his way back in to Javi’s heart and hopes he’s not messing this up already. Javi suggests they just sit and see what happens, so they get a table.
Abe goes to see Kayla and informs her that he has some issues. Abe says he thought it was temporary that would go away on it’s own, but it’s gotten worse. Abe reveals he’s been more forgetful than usual and knows it’s not unusual for people his age to have memory issues, but says there’s more. Abe then informs Kayla that he’s having tremors and brings up how Theo couldn’t read his writing on the guest list for Lexie’s memorial. Kayla decides she will do a quick exam to try and figure out what’s going on.
At the DiMera Mansion, EJ calls George and leaves a message, demanding he call back as soon as he gets it. Theo then arrives and says he needs to talk to EJ about Lexie’s memorial service.
Johnny packs bags at home and tells Chanel that they are ready with clothes and books as he wants her to have everything she might need. Chanel says it’s only one night at the hospital and then they go home. Johnny pulls out a bottle of champagne and says they will also celebrate the end of her cancer journey finally being in sight. Chanel says she is so grateful as they hug.
Leo and Javi toast to second chances. Leo says he’s so grateful for this one and talks about this being a friend date as they begin talking about the latest episode of Desperate Housewives.
Kayla tells Abe that she’d like to run a few tests. Abe asks her to keep this between them. Kayla assures that she would never betray his confidence. Abe says he’s especially worried about Theo and notes that Lexie had similar symptoms before she died, but he knows he doesn’t have what she had. Abe just doesn’t want Theo to have to relive what he went through with his mother as he’s been through so much since coming home.
Theo thought EJ might like to attend Lexie’s memorial service. EJ says of course he would and asks if he came to tell him he’s not wanted. Theo assures that he is being invited and that EJ gave him time back with his mom so he’ll always be grateful for that. EJ says he was as well. Theo clarifies that he doesn’t agree with EJ’s dubious ethics or questionable morality but it’s how he chooses to live his life. EJ says Theo made it clear how he feels about him when he resigned from the company. Theo is glad they understand each other and asks that if EJ attends Lexie’s service, he is on his best behavior.
Johnny talks about doing work while Chanel is in the hospital because DiMera took a huge hit after the FDA complaint and there are a lot of questions to be answered. Chanel takes that as he has to clean up EJ’s mess while Johnny argues that it’s the company’s mess where people’s jobs and livelihoods are at stake. Chanel argues that Johnny is kidding himself if he thinks he can distance himself from EJ while still working at DiMera. Johnny understands that she hates the idea of him being involved in the company in any way and that she wants him to quit. Chanel then asks if he will quit for her, their kids, and their marriage.
Javi and Leo have a joking back and forth over Desperate Housewives. Javi admits he wishes he wasn’t on the clock so he could have an alcoholic drink as they recall the night they met.
Johnny tells Chanel that he hears her and he is working towards quitting DiMera. Johnny knows it feels like it’s taking forever to put the whole Coriseal mess to bed, but once it’s all settled and he can find someone to replace him, he promises to walk away.
Kayla tells Abe that he and Theo have both been through too much. Abe says as much as it hurt to lose Lexie a second time, he’s grateful for the extra months to spend with her and he looks forward to honoring her at the memorial. Kayla calls Lexie a wonderful woman and great friend. Abe mentions that many of Lexie’s family will be in attendance. Kayla imagines he’s not too happy about that. Abe jokes about a room full of DiMeras and knows it’s wishful thinking that peace will prevail.
EJ assures Theo that he loved Lexie and has no intention of ruining her memorial. Theo points out that sometimes what EJ wants to do and actually does are two different things. EJ promises there will be no disruptions from him. Theo says that will have to be good enough for now. EJ asks if there’s anything else. Theo says that’s it, so EJ tells him to take care as Theo then exits the mansion. EJ pulls out his phone and sees George has not returned his call, so he exits the mansion.
Leo and Javi talk about the day he met when Leo was writing for Body and Soul. Javi jokes that now Leo is a hotshot investigative journalist. Javi brings up Leo writing a story that pins the Gabi Chic knockoffs on DiMera which isn’t safe, so he wishes Leo would scrap the whole thing.
Kayla gets a call from Steve and asks where is since she was worried. Steve is hiding in the grass as he reveals he’s still watching George O’Halloran’s house. Kayla questions him still being there and worries that George could see him. Steve assures he has plenty of cover and he’s sure that George will head to the lab soon, so he can follow him and find where he had that laptop. Kayla argues that George will be desperate to hold on to that evidence and could be dangerous. Steve argues that George isn’t a hardened criminal, but a corporate scientist in over his head. Steve tells Kayla that he will be fine and not to worry as they hang up. Johnny and Chanel arrive at the hospital where Paulina is waiting for them and talks about worrying they were going to be late. Chanel assures they are right on time. Paulina talks about wanting to be sure she saw her before she went in and says that Lani wished to be there but couldn’t reschedule her training at the police department. Chanel says they spoke this morning and Lani will watch the kids later. Johnny guesses they should head to surgical. Paulina hugs Chanel and says she’ll be right there, adding that she’s so proud of how she’s handled everything. Chanel says she has the best support system she could ask for. Paulina assures they’ve always got her as Chanel and Johnny walk away. Johnny returns to get coffee as Theo arrives and tells him he was hoping to wish Chanel luck before her surgery. Johnny informs him that they just took her in to the operating room. Theo decides he’ll come back later then, but Johnny stops him and asks if they can talk. Nearby, Paulina is on the phone arguing that she’s not supporting any bill that doesn’t support any zoning bill that doesn’t include affordable housing for district 7. Paulina says to keep her posted and hangs up as Abe approaches. Paulina asks what he’s doing there.
Leo tells Javi that he can’t bail on his big story. Javi asks if he has to spend his entire life poking the bear that is EJ DiMera when it’s dangerous. Leo appreciates his concern but says he made a commitment to Gabi, promising that he would bring the counterfeiters to justice. Javi asks what if EJ decides he needs to be stopped. Leo argues that EJ has way bigger fish to fry. Leo then points out that his day to day job is sitting at a computer in an office while Javi literally runs in to burning buildings, so he has the upper hand when it comes to worrying about their jobs. Javi still hopes he will be careful, which Leo assures that he will be. Leo thinks they just have to accept some level of worry if they are going to be in each other’s lives as friends. Javi then responds that he doesn’t think he can be friends with him.
Abe tells Paulina that he came to see Chanel since she’s having surgery today. Paulina calls it good of him to come by, but informs him that she was already taken in. Paulina invites Abe to wait with them if he wants which he accepts. Johnny tells Theo that he knows they had their differences at DiMera, but he meant what he said about making changes. Theo mentions hearing that he told the police about the Coriseal. Johnny confirms they are investigating and hopes they can make a case, otherwise he doesn’t think he’ll be able to forgive himself for helping EJ get away with what he did as he needs to be stopped. Theo wishes he did it sooner, but says better late than never. Theo adds that he never thought their family would be capable of something like this, but guesses it’s the DiMera tradition. Theo says first it was Stefano and now EJ doing whatever it takes to avoid the consequences of their actions. Johnny declares that he intends to break that tradition. Theo talks about the evil and says he can’t change it. Johnny responds that he promised Chanel he will quit but he can’t do it yet because he cares about the family and the company so he can’t just leave the mess for someone else. Johnny says the truth needs to come out for Destiny and all other victims. Theo questions how he plans to accomplish those lofty goals. Johnny responds that he’s starting by trying to get George’s laptop as they have reason to believe there’s evidence on it that he used it to make it look like Sarah altered Destiny’s results. Johnny says after he fired George, they were unable to find it but he’s pretty sure it’s in the lab, hidden somewhere that only George knows about. Theo questions how he plans to get it back. Johnny informs him that Steve is tracking him now in hopes that he will lead them right to it.
Steve remains watching George’s house as EJ arrives and angrily knocks on the door until George lets him in. EJ complains about his employee not answering his calls or texts. George corrects that he’s a former employee, lamenting that his 30 years of loyal service ends with an assistant shipping over his life’s work. EJ calls it unfortunate that Johnny fired him and it’s even more unfortunate that he wasn’t able to bring his laptop with him when he left the building. George assures EJ that they haven’t found his laptop yet since he kept it in a hidden spot in the lab. EJ asks how the hell he plans to get it back.
Abe asks Paulina how the kids are doing. Paulina tells him that Olivia and Trey are a joy, but missing Chanel today. Paulina asks if Abe is doing well. Abe claims he’s fine with no complaints. Paulina says she will be glad when Chanel is over and hopes they don’t have to come back to the hospital for a long time. Kayla comes over and announces Chanel’s surgery is done and went very well so Chanel is now in recovery. Kayla adds that Chanel has to continue her follow up treatments, hormone therapy, and be monitored regularly. Johnny asks when he can see her. Kayla says when she’s out of recovery, but she’ll be sleeping for awhile. Paulina thanks Kayla for everything she’s done. Kayla calls Chanel a great patient and goes to check on her. Paulina tells Johnny that their fear and worry is all behind them as they hug while Abe and Theo watch on with smiles.
Leo questions Javi saying he can’t be friends with him and starts to ramble with worries until Javi stops him to clarify that there’s a reason he can’t be friends with him and it’s not what he thinks.
George tells EJ that he will get the laptop back by going to DiMera tonight. EJ asks if they are just going to let him in without credentials. George then reveals that he cloned a key card from a lab tech awhle back to be prepared. EJ warns that he better not be a problem as once he gets the laptop, he wants him to get as far away from Salem as soon as he can. George questions him having to be the one to run when he’s cleaning up EJ’s mess. EJ responds that cleaning up messes means taking the fall. EJ then reveals an envelope of money that he hopes will soften the blow and that he has set up George with a new name, bank account, passport, and a ticket to an island off the coast of Fiji. EJ asks George if they have a deal. George says that they do.
Johnny decides he will call home to check on the kids, so he steps away. Paulina comments that she’s sure when Chanel gets out of recovery, Johnny will want to be alone with her, so she suggests she, Abe, and Theo celebrate the good news at the Bistro before they come back. Abe says that sounds great while Theo says he already ate and suggests they go together. Abe and Paulina then exit together as Theo smiles.
Steve watches from the grass as George comes out of his house with his bags packed. Steve then calls Johnny and informs him that he has eyes on George, who is packing up to leave his place right now with suitcases and it looks like he’s about to run. Steve bets there’s no way he’s leaving Salem without that laptop.
Javi informs Leo that he’s tried to get over his feelings for him and for awhile, he convinced himself he had, but then he would lie in bed at night and he couldn’t get Leo out of his head or his heart. Leo asks what he’s telling him. Javi declares that he doesn’t want to hang out just as friends and he wants this to be a date. Leo admits he wasn’t expecting that and doesn’t know what to say. Javi tells him no more words as he then kisses Leo.
Steve remains watching George as he leaves home with his suitcases. Johnny asks if Steve is okay to follow him. Steve confirms he is and he’s sure George is heading straight to DiMera to get that laptop. Johnny asks if he’s still good to get in. Steve confirms that he still has the credentials that Johnny gave him, but before he can continue, Steve is then hit from behind with a taser, knocking him out and leaving Johnny confused on the phone.
