At the hospital, Xander asks Sarah if there’s any update on Rachel. Sarah says she’s still fighting the infection. Xander says he feels for Brady and compares it to when he and Sarah dealt with Victoria having pneumonia. Sarah asks what brings him by. Xander says he has an appointment with Marlena. Sarah is surprised he’s still doing that and says it’s great that he’s finding his way. Xander says he feels like he’s making progress. Sarah is proud of him for sticking with it and doing something so important for himself. Xander thanks her.

Lani goes to see Jada in her office at the police station. Shawn comes in which Jada calls perfect timing and has them both sit down. Jada informs them that Paulina called her to let her know that the Governor granted Lani a full pardon. Shawn calls that amazing. Lani notes that Paulina is the one who pushed for that. Jada says she’s glad she did because what happened to her was an injustice, which Shawn agrees with. Jada then asks Lani if she would like her old job back.

Sophia is in the town square when she sees Johnny walk by.

Marlena finds Brady at the hospital and asks where Rachel is. Brady says she’s been taken for more tests as they can’t get her temperature down and Sarah doesn’t like her white blood cell count either. Marlena says she’s sorry as Brady comments on the infection being hard to control. Marlena encourages that they will figure it out and the antibiotics will work miracles. Brady says he hopes so, but doesn’t think they will help with her sadness. Brady says that Rachel sleeps all day and when she’s awake, she talks about her mother as she misses Kristen now more than ever.

Kristen walks in to the town square wearing a hat and sunglasses. She approaches Sophia and asks if she got it. Sophia asks if she got her money. Kristen instructs her to follow her, so they walk away together.

Marlena asks if Brady has no way to reach Kristen. Brady says she gave him a way to contact in case of emergency, so he sent her a message about Rachel being in the hospital. Brady says he knows she read it, but he hasn’t heard back. Marlena assures that he will. Brady says he hopes so, but after what he’s learned, he thinks it might have been a mistake to reach out to her. Brady declares that he prays he never hears from Kristen again.

Sarah tells Xander that she should get back to work, but Johnny arrives and says he needs to talk to Sarah. Xander says he’ll go wait but Johnny tells him to stay because it’s about the FDA complaint against DiMera and the wrongful death lawsuit against Sarah. Sarah asks what about it. Johnny responds that he wants the truth to come out. Xander argues that the truth is that DiMera Pharmaceuticals produced a contaminated batch of Coriseal that killed Destiny and now EJ is setting up Sarah to take the fall. Johnny says that he knows, but he’s not going to let EJ get away with it as he’s already gone to the police and given a statement that everything in the FDA complaint is true. Sarah says it’s great that he’s cooperating with the police, but Brady told her that EJ and George are not and denied everything. Johnny says the police are working on that. Xander says half of Salem is but EJ has deleted or destroyed all the evidence that incriminates them. Johnny says he’s almost positive that part was George while Sarah argues that EJ is obviously behind the lawsuit to punish her. Xander states that EJ is trying to ruin Sarah’s career. Johnny repeats that he won’t let that happen and reveals that he has a plan to clear Sarah’s name.

Marlena is shocked as Brady reveals to her that EJ claims Kristen convinced Sophia to try to kill Johnny. Brady says it tracks because Kristen told him that she was leaving town because she was afraid of EJ. Marlena says it’s no wonder if EJ tried to run her out of town. Brady says he apparently was going to imprison her on a DiMera private island, but Kristen vanished before he had the chance. Marlena agrees that it tracks. Brady calls it a new level of sick even for Kristen, but now because of him, she could come through any moment looking for Rachel and he doesn’t know what to do about it.

Kristen brings Sophia to a motel room. Sophia questions what she means about there being a problem with the money when she told her she would get it. Kristen tells Sophia to trust her as she’s all she has. Sophia responds that she just wants to get paid and get the hell out of here. Kristen argues that she can’t just walk in to a bank and withdraw $400 grand. Kristen promises that soon, Sophia will have enough cash to be comfortable and the rest will go in to an offshore account. Sophia warns that it better be soon because she hates being here with too many painful memories. Kristen feels the same but says her daughter needs her, so here she is. Kristen says Rachel must be so scared being sick and missing her. Sophia encourages that Rachel is a strong kid. Kristen complains that all the months away from her is destroying her. Kristen says she can’t help but think how Sophia’s mother must feel, thinking she’s gone forever. Sophia thinks she’s probably done crying over her by now, pointing out that there’s less to worry about without her around. Kristen thinks her mom would be thrilled to worry about her again. Kristen thinks now that Sophia is back in Salem, she should let her mom know that she’s alive.

Jada notes that Lani seems surprised. Lani admits that she is. Jada asks why, feeling it would’ve been obvious why she asked her to come in. Jada adds that it’s no secret they need more cops that the community trusts and respects like her. Lani is not sure everyone would be happy if she rejoined the police department or that her mother helped make it happen. Jada thinks those people would be few and far between. Shawn says he’d be especially happy to have her back. Jada points out that she read they used to work togethers in the past, so she asks how they’d like to be partners again.

Sarah questions how Johnny will clear his name, arguing that thanks to EJ, the entire world thinks she was negligent in Destiny’s death. Johnny offers to speak to Destiny’s family personally and tells them that DiMera takes full responsibility and offer a cash settlement. Xander feels it’s not good enough for Sarah as it doesn’t help her in any way because she still has to face patients that refuse treatment from her because they think she killed one of her patients. Xander declares that Sarah’s name needs to be cleared publicly. Johnny insists that he intends to do that. Johnny wanted to assure them both that he’s doing everything he can to make this go as quickly as possible. Sarah thanks him for sticking his neck out for her, saying it took a lot of courage to come forward about EJ’s crimes. Xander feels it was too late. Johnny agrees that he should’ve sooner but promises to do everything in his power to make this right. Xander remarks that words are cheap and what matters are actions and results, so he’ll save his thanks for when he delivers.

Marlena tells Brady that it’s such a tough call as she knows Rachel loves her mother and misses her while Kristen has sacrificed so much for her daughter. Marlena has a hard time advocating for separating a mother from her child, but in this case she thinks it’s the best move. Brady completely agrees. Brady knows Kristen would never hurt Rachel physically, but knowing what she did to Johnny and what she’s capable of, he doesn’t want her anywhere near Rachel right now. Brady apologizes for dumping this on Marlena when she’s dealing with a lot. Marlena assures that she loves him and Rachel, so she wants to help any way that she can. Marlena says she has to go see a patient so Brady says he’ll keep her posted as she exits the room.

Sophia asks if Kristen is insane, arguing that she cannot let anyone know that she’s alive because she would get put in prison, unless that’s what Kristen wants so she doesn’t have to pay her. Kristen says of course not because if Sophia gets caught, she gets caught. Sophia argues that she just suggested she go see her mother. Kristen clarifies that she didn’t say that, so Sophia questions how she’s supposed to contact her. Kristen calls her a clever girl so she’s sure she could find a way to get word to her mother without exposing either of them. Sophia questions why she even cares. Kristen repeats that the pain of missing her daughter has been unbearable, but at least she gets to see her again while Sophia’s mother’s pain is infinite. Sophia thinks she might be overstating that and that Amy is mainly just upset because she was a big disappointment to her. Kristen argues that Sophia’s mom loves her with all her heart and she’s sure she thought she had time to fix the issues between them, but the clock ran out and now she’s torturing herself for not seeing the signs or doing enough to help her. Kristen says that Amy thinks she failed her so badly that she took her own life. Sophia says that’s enough. Kristen assures that she understands the fear of going to prison, but argues that Amy has been given a life sentence of anguish and sorrow with a hole in her heart that will never be healed unless Sophia heals it. Kristen pleads with Sophia to give her mother some peace.

Jada asks if Shawn and Lani need time to think about it. Shawn says he’s good while Lani says she will happily take the job which Jada calls fantastic. Lani thanks Jada for the opportunity and calls it an honor, telling her how grateful she is. Jada tells Lani that they are happy to have her back and says she can go to HR to finish the paperwork. Lani promises not to let her down as she shakes hands with Shawn and exits the room. Shawn tells Jada that there’s something he should know about he and Lani, but they get interrupted by Jada getting a call from cyber forensics who just checked Destiny’s file and found exactly what the wrongful death suit claimed, saying the tests were changed from normal to abnormal by Sarah. Shawn points out that Sarah swears that she didn’t change it and he believes her. Jada says she does too, but right now that’s the only evidence they have.

Sarah tells Johnny that she’s sorry about Xander being intense. Johnny understands Xander is protective of Sarah as the mother of his child. Sarah brings up knowing that Johnny is the one who let the clue about arsenic on her desk. Johnny tells her that EJ asked him to as they both wanted Holly to get the treatment she needed. Sarah responds that he saved Holly’s life and calls him a good man for what he did then and now. Sarah asks if he’s faced charges for what EJ did. Johnny says he’s hoping for leniency or immunity but nothing is guaranteed. Johnny then gets a text from Jada, wanting to see him in her office. Sarah offers to call Chanel but Johnny says he’ll be fine and exits.

Xander meets Marlena in her office and says he’s glad she’s looking well. Marlena apologizes for canceling their last appointment. Xander says he’s just glad Rachel’s surgery went well and encourages that if anyone can beat this, it’s her. Xander tells Marlena that they will be covering some familiar territory with Sarah.

Brady goes to Sarah and informs her that Kristen got his message and hasn’t responded yet, but now nothing will keep her from wanting to see Rachel. Sarah questions that being bad. Brady responds that it is because he found out something really disturbing that makes him not want to have Kristen anywhere near Rachel and declares he will do everything in his power to keep her away.

Sophia admits that part of her wishes her mom could see how good she’s doing now and that she’s taking her meds and doing online therapy. Kristen encourages her to make that happen. Kristen states that when Sophia “died”, a part of her mother died too, so she can give her what she needs to be whole again for her father and brothers. Kristen insists no one else will know, but Sophia says that she can’t say that for sure so she can’t take that chance. Kristen tells her to think about it while she needs to get to Rachel. Sophia says that Rachel was a good little friend. Kristen argues that she took advantage of that. Sophia calls it one of her many regrets and she wishes she could somehow tell her how sorry she is for how she treated her. Kristen tells her that’s not going to happen because she doesn’t want Sophia near Rachel ever again. Sophia says she hopes Rachel is okay. Kristen says if all goes according to plan, she’s about to find out.

Shawn and Jada go over that the report says Destiny’s file was changed using an off network device outside the hospital. Shawn says it was probably a personal computer. Jada says they need to find that computer and who it belongs to. Shawn says they might not be able to nail them for a crime, but a cover up is another story.

Xander tells Marlena about Titan and the mansion have been saved. Xander says that Philip deserves all the credit and he’s just happy for Maggie and the family. Xander adds that the best part is that Sarah and Victoria will be moving back in to the house. Marlena guesses that will make him happy. Xander says yes and no.

Sarah is shocked as Brady tells her what Kristen did to Johnny just to get back at EJ and she understands now why he doesn’t want her anywhere near their daughter. Sarah says she’s so sorry and asks how she can help. Brady asks Sarah to get with hospital security to alert them to stop Kristen if they see her which she agrees to do. Brady thanks her and says he’s going to check if Rachel is back to her room yet. Brady walks away while Sarah pulls out her phone to make a call.

Brady enters Rachel’s hospital room to find Kristen dressed as a nurse at Rachel’s bedside.

Johnny goes to Jada’s office. She thanks him for coming so quickly. Johnny mentions that he does have to pick up Trey from the nanny soon. Shawn says it won’t take long as they just have a few questions. Johnny admits he thought it would be a lot worse. Jada says he has nothing to worry about as they just wanted to ask about some new information. Shawn explains to Johnny that they got Destiny’s medical records and it showed someone altering her test results from outside the hospital. Johnny tells them that it was George O’Halloran. Jada questions it not being EJ. Johnny says that EJ never gets his hands dirty while George told him to his face that his plan was to deny, deflect, and blame someone else. Jada asks if he’s sure George didn’t pay some tech genius to do it for him and outsource the job. Johnny says no way, not again which Jada questions. Johnny explains that George hired a fixer to dispose of the contaminated Coriseal and that fixer did it on Smith Island, so if George’s ass is on the line too, he’s sure he would’ve taken care of it himself. Jada asks if Johnny has seen George with a personal laptop. Johnny confirms that he’s got it a lot.

Marlena questions why wouldn’t the thought of living with Sarah and Victoria make Xander happy. Xander responds that part of it makes him ecstatic to have that time with Victoria, but the downside is that it’s just going to make it feel like they are a real family again, but they won’t be. Xander points out that they’ll be under the same roof but in separate bedrooms and she’ll still be going to Brady’s however many times a week. Marlena guesses that would be hard for him. Xander notes that it wouldn’t be as hard if she wasn’t giving him mixed signals like when they almost kissed in the wine cellar or their time at the daddy daughter dance. Xander says that was perfect and then shortly after, he heard Sarah tell Brady that she loved him so he went from top of the world to crashing back down to reality. Xander says it made him realize that he and Sarah would never magically get back together without working through the problems that broke them up in the first place. Marlena agrees. Xander argues that he’s not the only one who made mistakes and needs to fix themselves as Sarah needs to acknowledge that she hurt him and there were times where she was very unfair to him. Marlena asks if he doesn’t think she will acknowledge that. Xander doesn’t know if it even matters at this point. Xander says they keep having these powerful moments where they are drawn to each other, but they are just moments and they can’t build a future off that and she’s made it clear she doesn’t want that because she’s in love with someone else. Xander says telling her that it isn’t difficult or killing him would be a lie.

Brady tells Kristen that he was telling security to keep her out. Kristen questions why he would say that when she’s there because he contacted her. Brady calls that a mistake. Kristen questions what he’s talking about since their child is in the hospital. Brady responds that he doesn’t want her anywhere near her. Brady then tells Kristen that he knows what she did to Johnny. Kristen claims she didn’t do anything to Johnny. Brady argues that she had Sophia do her dirty work. Kristen says she was in a very bad place while Brady tells her to save it. Brady declares that she tried to have her own nephew killed, so he wants her out before Rachel wakes up. Kristen refuses to leave. Brady demands she walk out the door now but Kristen tells him there’s not a chance.

Shawn thanks Johnny for coming in. Johnny says he’s happy to help and hopes it will all be over soon and that justice will be served. Johnny then exits. Lani comes over and tells Shawn that as soon as the paperwork is done, she will have her badge back and they will officially be partners again. Lani comments that it doesn’t look like much has changed. They ask if they should talk about the fact that they dated a decade ago. Lani says she’s happily married now with kids while Shawn and Jada are great. Shawn agrees that it won’t be weird for him as they shake hands and he welcomes her back.

Marlena tells Xander that she knows how painful it is for him to have Sarah involved with somebody else because he still loves her, but maybe he can find a new way to love Sarah. Xander guesses she means as a friend. Marlena says as a partner raising a little girl and maybe he can find some way to redirect that love. She asks what he’s thinking. Xander mentions seeing Sarah before he came in and she told him that she was proud of him for doing therapy for himself. Xander says she meant well, but the subtext was clear that she was telling him it won’t lead to them getting back together. Xander decides maybe he will try to do as Marlena advised and redirect his love for Sarah somehow and find a way to only love her as his partner in raising their daughter. Xander declares it may be finally time to let go of his dream that they would get back what they once had and accept that they are over forever.

Shawn rejoins Jada in her office and asks if she really thinks George would use his personal laptop to alter Destiny’s files. Jada says it would be the key to clearing Sarah and nailing EJ, but they don’t have enough for a warrant. Jada states that right now it’s just EJ’s word against his son’s, but thankfully his son is on their side.

Johnny walks through the town square with Trey in his stroller as Sophia watches from nearby.

Kristen argues that Brady can’t separate her from her daughter as Rachel needs her and whatever he thinks she did doesn’t change that. Sarah walks in, so Brady tells her they were too late. Sarah says she will call security. Kristen argues that she’s a mother and knows why she needs to be there. Kristen pleads with Sarah to let her stay with her little girl. Rachel then wakes up and sees Kristen.
