Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph
Maggie, Kate, and Sarah sit together at the Brady Pub. Maggie gets a text from Philip that he and Xander are at the Kiriakis Mansion, waiting for the home inspector. Maggie remarks that he’s sure to be appalled by what he sees. Sarah jokes that there’s not only rats scurrying about but the general neglect swept under the rug for years. Kate asks who in their right mind would purchase that. Maggie hopes they will have some good news.
Philip and Xander wait on the home inspector at the Kiriakis Mansion. Philip talks about getting nervous while Xander feels there’s no way Dominic Marino will go through with the purchase. The inspector Hank then arrives and meets them. He remarks that he thought the place would look a lot worse based on the disclosure statement but he appreciates the honesty. Hank doesn’t think it will take too long and doubts they have anything to worry about.
Cat is with Marlena in her office at the hospital and says she heard about Rachel, so she’s praying for a speedy recovery. Marlena brings up Cat saying she didn’t want hypnotherapy again, just a regular follow up, but points out last time she did hypnotherapy, she remembered telling EJ that she was former ISA. Marlena knows that caused her a lot of anxiety that she was struggling with. Cat responds that she’s dealing with the fallout.
Chad goes to the DiMera Mansion and confronts EJ, asking what the hell is the matter with him as Belle told him what Johnny told the police. Chad questions why EJ does stuff like this. EJ responds that he didn’t do a damn thing. Chad questions if Johnny just made it up because it’s a pretty detailed story that starts with EJ doing something shady to save his own ass and now at least two people are dead.
Xander and Philip watch as Hank inspects the Kiriakis Mansion. He then asks to be taken to the wine cellar.
Maggie asks Sarah if she’s told Brady that she plans to move back in to the Kiriakis Mansion if they pulls this off. Sarah says she hasn’t yet, but it shouldn’t be a surprise since he always knew them living together was temporary. Maggie points out that he didn’t know she’d be moving in with Xander, so she needs to have that conversation. Sarah agrees but says now isn’t the best time, pointing out that they don’t even know if they are getting the house back and Brady is focused on Rachel as he should be. Maggie asks how she’s doing. Sarah says the surgery went well but she’s still fighting th infection which is a little concerning. Maggie asks how Sarah is doing and if there’s any news on the lawsuit. Sarah says there actually is and it might be really good news as Johnny gave a statement to the police that pretty much confirmed everything they expected about the contaminated drugs, EJ’s involvement in the cover up, and that he set her up.
EJ tells Chad that even if Johnny’s allegations against DiMera Pharmaceuticals were true, he’s clearly been misinformed about his involvement in it. Chad questions EJ having nothing to do with what his own company was doing. EJ says he was aware of the contaminated batch of pills but that George told him they never left the facility, so to hear now that he may have done something so dangerous and reckless, he is just as appalled and it appears George tried to pass the blame onto him. EJ calls it disappointing and says it’s even more disappointing that Johnny went to the police instead of talking to him. Chad argues that Johnny said he spoke to him and told the police that EJ admitted to this. EJ says he doesn’t know what to tell him, claiming he doesn’t know why Johnny would make these baseless accusations against him. EJ admits he’s heartbroken that his son would betray him this way.
Marlena asks Cat how EJ reacted when she told him that she was no longer ISA. Cat says that he pulled away and checked out her story by having Belle ask Paul to research her and that Paul told her that she resigned after her accident, but didn’t mention that she returned specifically to investigate EJ. Marlena asks if EJ believed what Paul told Belle, that she was no longer ISA. Cat doesn’t think he did since he still doesn’t trust her, which obviously doesn’t bode well for her investigation. Marlena asks if there’s some way she can regain his trust. Cat says she hopes so and reveals that in order to do that, she took a pretty big risk by quitting her job working for EJ. Cat explains her belief that EJ would have to accept that she had no ulterior motive if she was willing to walk away but she’s heard nothing from him since.
Chad asks if EJ has at least spoken to Johnny since he talked to the police. EJ responds that he tried reaching out but didn’t get a response. Chad tells him to try again. Chad says that what Johnny did was brave if what he says is true, and he believes that it is. Chad tells EJ that it’s on him to fix this, adding that Stefano wouldn’t want them at odds but EJ cuts him off and argues that Chad has no idea what Stefano would want or what was going on his head because he was unpredictable. EJ remarks that he’s beginning to wonder if anyone ever truly knew him. Chad asks what he’s talking about because Stefano always bragged that EJ knew him best. Chad demands an answer as to what’s changed. EJ then reveals that he recently learned that the mysterious Dominic Marino may be their brother. Chad questions why he thinks that. EJ says apparently there is a birth certificate. Chad asks who found that. EJ explains that he overheard Marlena yesterday, demanding answers from Rita and mentioned there was a birth certificate. EJ asks who knows if it’s authentic or who knows anything anymore. EJ confirms to Chad that according to the birth certificate, Marlena is Dominic’s mother.
Marlena asks Cat what if EJ doesn’t hire her back. Cat says she’ll be out of a job times two since her work at the ISA relied on her being close to EJ and in light of recent events, she doesn’t qualify for either. Cat remarks that it’s hard to collect dirt on a guy who will barely look at her. Marlena reminds Cat that they always need help at the hospital. Cat agrees to keep that in mind, but says this was more than a job to her, it was her one chance to do good in this town after all the harm she caused when she first came in and now she’s afraid that she blew it.
Hank returns to Xander and Philip as he goes to check the laundry room next. Xander questions what the hell happened to all the rats as the place was crawling with them and tries calling for them to come out. Hank comes in and questions what’s going on, then comments on the laundry. Philip says they’ve been using the laundromat while Xander comments on the rat problem. Hank responds that he noticed a few droppings, but it’s not too bad and a good exterminator should be able to wipe them out, leaving them lost.
Sarah tells Maggie that the police also questioned EJ and George and they denied everything, so right now it’s just their word against Johnny’s. Maggie asks if Johnny admitted to any involvement. Sarah confirms that he admitted to being the one who left the clue about arsenic on her desk just as they suspected, which Maggie points out saved Holly’s life. They agree they’ll always be grateful to Johnny for that.
Hank tells Philip and Xander that all of this hand holding isn’t necessary as he asks them to point him towards the attic. Philip says they were just trying to be helpful as Xander directs him to the attic. Hank tells them to wait there as he goes to the attic and says he’ll let them know when he’s done.
Roman surprises Kate at the Pub with a rose to wish her a happy anniversary. Kate wasn’t sure it counted since they aren’t officially together. Roman points out that they are still married and that’s as official as it gets, adding that they did promise for better or worse until death do us part. Kate informs Roman that she has a surprise for him upstairs. Roman then tells her to go grab it and meet him out front because he has a surprise for her too. Maggie asks Sarah how Johnny coming forward will affect her lawsuit. Sarah says it’s hard to say because even if it goes away, her reputation is already damaged as there are patients refusing to let her treat them. Maggie calls that so unfair. Sarah says even if it’s proven that she was unjustly accused, there will still be people that believe it was true. Sarah declares that win or lose, the stain on her name will be so hard to get past.
Hank returns to Philip and Xander and says he’s never seen anything quite like this as the damage doesn’t match the report. He points out that a broken light looked like a clean break on purpose and the one rat he found looked domestic like the kind bought in a pet shop, adding that the amount of droppings he found doesn’t match what is claimed on the form. Xander says they can explain, but Hank says it’s pretty clear that they were trying to sabotage the inspection.
Marlena understands why the ISA assignment was so important to Cat, but says that EJ is a master of evasion as other people have tried to hold him accountable and failed. Cat felt that she was so close, but maybe she overestimated how much EJ needed her, professionally and personally. Cat admits that she really thought EJ cared about her. Marlena asks if Cat is upset because maybe he didn’t care about her or if she’s upset because she lost her job and failed, or if it’s possible that she was falling in love with EJ.
EJ says to Chad that who knew their trip to Italy would end in them sharing a sibling. Chad can’t believe it. EJ brings up Stefano having Marlena in a coma for years so it’s possible. Chad questions if Rita wouldn’t tell him anything. EJ responds that even if she did, he wouldn’t believe her because she’s been lying to his face for months. EJ says he confronted her yesterday but before he could get very far, Jada interrupted them to ask him questions and Rita took that opportunity to walk out the door and disappear. Chad questions if he hasn’t heard from her. EJ responds that she’s in the wind. Chad calls it surprising that Rita would abandon him now when he was always her favorite. EJ says not anymore it seems. EJ adds that ever since the will reading, he’s sensed a seismic shift. Chad asks what he’s talking about. EJ asks where the hell it leaves the rest of them if the rumors about Dominic’s parents are true.
Outside the Pub, Kate surprises Roman with tickets to the first Chicago Bulls game of the season. Roman excitedly calls it a great idea and thanks her. Roman tells Kate now it’s her turn. Kate worries about why he wanted her to open it outside. Kate opens the gift and it’s a Room for Rent sign. Roman explains that living without her has been miserable and he doesn’t want to spend another night like that ever again. Kate feels the same, so Roman declares it’s time for her to really come home as they embrace.
Chad tells EJ that if the rumors of Dominic’s parentage are true, they just have another brother. EJ argues that it’s far more consequential than that. EJ says that his mother Susan meant nothing to Stefano as she was a means to an end for Marlena. Chad asks if he’s worried about not being the golden child anymore. EJ calls it just an observation. Chad calls it an observation that EJ is not wearing Stefano’s ring anymore. EJ says that Rita must have taken it. Chad questions why she would do that. EJ says because Stefano asked her to. EJ goes over how he got removed as executor of Stefano’s will and the chess table that Stefano left Marlena led them to Dominic Marino and then Rita took the ring. Chad questions why Rita took the ring. EJ argues that Stefano set it up so that whoever Dominic is could make some grand entrance in to their lives. Chad questions what the point is. EJ says they could only guess, but he knows that when Dominic does show up, they need to be prepared.
Cat insists to Marlena that she doesn’t have feelings for EJ and that she’s just disappointed over her job. Cat adds that there was an unintentional personal consequence of coming clean to EJ because he told Chad that she was ISA and now Chad’s incredibly angry at her.
Kate and Roman go back in to the Pub with plans to go back up to their room, but Philip and Xander arrive, so Maggie and Sarah ask them how it went. Xander responds that the pet shop rats might have been a bit of a mistake. Sarah asks what happened. They flashback to Xander trying to bribe Hank, but he refused to lie on his report and said he was curious why they would do all of this. Philip explained that it was their father’s house and it meant a lot to them, so Hank asked why they were selling it. Xander explained that they had no choice as the family business was going under, so they had to put the house up as collateral on a loan to stay afloat. Philip adds that a business rival bought the loan to demand the payment right away, so they had to put the house up for sale. They explain that Philip came up with the money but he was hours too late while Philip talked about the history the house held. They called it their home and say losing it would be like losing part of themselves. Hank realizes that they were trying to scare the buyer away. Philip repeated that they were just trying to keep the house in the family. Hank then stated that he technically did see everything the report said as their flashback concludes. Sarah tells them well done, while Philip calls it a team effort and applauds everyone for pitching in while Maggie thanks them all. Maggie says they just have to hope now that the bad inspection is enough to scare Dominic Marino away from the sale, but she’s afraid they are under his mercy now.
Chad agrees with EJ that he wants to know more about Dominic Marino, long lost brother or not. EJ admits he’s at a loss since normally Rita would be doing his research. Chad asks why he doesn’t ask Cat for help. EJ reveals that Cat no longer works for him as she quit after sensing he no longer trusted her because of the whole ISA thing. Chad responds that he sure as hell doesn’t trust her either and that he told her as much.
Cat explains to Marlena that Chad thinks she should’ve gone to the ISA when Clyde forced her to impersonate Abigail and she tried to tell him why she didn’t feel she could, but he didn’t get it and she understands that all his pain and anger rose to the surface. Cat admits Chad may have a point and that part of her thinks she should’ve taken the risk of going to the ISA instead of dragging his family through Hell. Marlena recalls when Cat was thinking she was saving her mother’s life and was acting out of fear, not harmful intent. Cat calls that not much of an excuse.
Sarah asks what happens if Dominic still wants to buy the house. Philip says according to the contract, he’s allowed to ask Maggie to cover the repairs. Maggie says she’s allowed to say no which Xander hopes will drive him away from the sale. Kate feels it depends on why Dominic wanted the house in the first place. Roman mentions that Sydney said Dominic is coming to Salem soon, so that could mean he intends to actually live there. Sarah adds that he is a literal billionaire, so she’s sure he’d have no issue dropping a bunch of cash to make the house livable. Maggie then announces she just got a text from Dominic’s broker.
EJ is sure Cat would’ve gone to the ISA if that were an option. Chad questions if he’s defending her. EJ says he’s just saying it was desperate times. Cat then arrives, so Chad says he was just leaving and walks out of the mansion.
Maggie announces it’s official that Dominic wants out of the contract. Xander excitedly embraces Sarah as Roman and Maggie cheer along with Philip and Kate.
Cat tells EJ that she’s just returning his laptop, company card, and house key. Cat jokes about making copies for the ISA and then guesses that’s it. Cat says goodbye to EJ and wishes him well, but EJ stops her and says he doesn’t want her to go.
