Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph
At the Horton Cabin on Smith Island, Tate and Holly talk about having more alone time until Arianna and Aaron come back, so they continue kissing.
EJ meets with Dr. Rolf in the secret lab. EJ questions Rolf’s plan being to administer more of the drug that caused Lexie’s issues in the first place. Dr. Rolf reminds him that it’s also the drug that brought Lexie back to life. Dr. Rolf insists that he’s made the necessary refinements and informs him that the surviving lab rats showed the same declines as Lexie but that has now been reversed, so he’s optimistic it will do the same for Lexie.
Lexie is sitting at home when she gets a call from Kayla, who questions Lexie canceling her appointment for today. Lexie tells her that all is well and that something just came up with the family. Lexie says she will call tomorrow to reschedule as they hang up. Lexie then gets up and leaves the house.
Abe brings Paulina flowers in the town square and wishes her a happy anniversary.
Lani and Theo go to visit Chanel, bringing food over. Lani encourages Chanel to go rest but Chanel says she’s too hungry since she’s had to fast before surgery. Lani says they will put everything away until she can eat. Chanel comments that she doesn’t know she got so lucky. Lani assures that they will take care of whatever she needs while Theo declares that’s what family is for as they hug.
Johnny sits alone in the town square with the flowers he bought Chanel. Kristen approaches and comments on Johnny looking well for someone who had a brush with death. Johnny confirms he’s recovered and physically fine. Kristen says thank God he survived. Kristen thinks back to arguing with EJ, who accused her of seeing Johnny as collateral damage in going after him and warning that he would know who’s responsible if Johnny is harmed again. Kristen then tells Johnny that it’s hard to believe that Sophia would want to hurt him that way and claims she can’t imagine what must have been going through her head. Johnny says that makes two of them. Kristen adds that he must be relieved that Sophia can never hurt him again.
Holly brings up when she and Tate were at the cabin last year on Valentine’s Day when they made love for the first time, so this place will always be special to her for that reason. Holly is happy they made it back, but she keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop like she doesn’t deserve to be happy with the whole Sophia situation. Tate states that Sophia made her life hell and it’s terrible that she’s gone now, but that doesn’t mean she has to feel bad when she deserves to be happy. Holly thanks him and says she needed to hear that. Holly then mentions being hungry so Tate decides he will cook something for them.
Johnny tells Kristen that Sophia was obviously a troubled young woman, but he can’t say the hate she felt towards them was completely unjustified. Johnny states that before Trey was born, she hung all of her hopes and dreams on the idea that he and Chanel would adopt him and then when he backed out, it had to flip her world upside down. Johnny feels he can at least own his part in what happened to her. Kristen calls him a very forgiving person. Johnny doesn’t want to hang on to anger and bitterness. Johnny guesses having a family changes him and states that Trey is Sophia’s biological son, so she’s the reason that he exists and that he and Chanel get to be his parents, so they will always be grateful to her for that.
Lani asks where Johnny is. Chanel says she told him to go to work since he was making her antsy with all the pacing around. Chanel adds that she was already feeling antsy for Paulina, knowing how important the day was for her as she and Abe’s anniversary. Lani says she and Theo will take care of Paulina while urging Chanel to focus on taking care of herself. Lani insists that Chanel will get through this like she gets through everything, with strength and courage.
Paulina tells Abe that he shouldn’t have done this. Abe didn’t want her to think he forgot their anniversary. Paulina says she appreciates that and admits she was looking through their wedding album this morning, but so much has changed since then. Abe calls that a joyous day and asks how Chanel is. Paulina says she’s doing okay and is having surgery today, then chemotherapy. Paulina wishes she could drop everything and look after her, but Chanel insisted that she speak at the Juneteenth event. Abe then flashes back to their wedding.
Lexie staggers in to the lab as EJ asks if she’s alright. Lexie argues that he knows she’s not and says she can’t do this anymore if they don’t fix her. EJ insists they will as Dr. Rolf has a plan which Lexie wants to hear about. Dr. Rolf explains that he will give her more of the drug and then her pesky symptoms should disappear, assuring that she’s in excellent hands and she’ll be good as new in no time.
Tate and Holly sit down to eat but Holly suddenly feels sick and rushes out of the cabin.
Chanel thanks Lani and Theo, assuring that she couldn’t get through this without them as she exits for the hospital.
Paulina tells Abe that she should get going. Abe stops her and apologizes for not keeping in better touch. Paulina understands he was respecting his wife’s wishes. Abe feels he still should’ve reached out because he wanted Paulina to know that he loves her. Paulina tells him not to say that because she has no idea what to do with that love. Paulina says she’s been driving herself crazy, thinking maybe she made a mistake in walking away from their marriage as part of her thinks she should fight for him, but the louder voice is telling her to walk away. Paulina knew in her heart what Abe’s choice must be. She thanks him for the flowers and walks away. Nearby, Kristen comments on Johnny’s flowers for Chanel being lovely and asks if it’s a special occasion. Johnny informs Kristen that Chanel is going in for surgery and reveals that she has breast cancer and is about to start chemo. Kristen says she’s so sorry. Johnny admits it’s been a lot. Kristen hopes EJ doesn’t use it as a way to worm his way back in to his life. Johnny responds that EJ has actually been super caring and offered to do anything he could to help them. Kristen calls EJ a manipulator and tells Johnny not to let EJ do it because he doesn’t deserve him. Kristen says Johnny was right before in cutting EJ out of his life. Johnny asks why she’s telling him this. Kristen insists that he knows it’s true. Kristen then gets a phone call and says she has to go, so she hurries off.
EJ asks Lexie if she’s sure she’ll be alright here. Lexie is sure EJ has other things to do. EJ tells her to stay strong and he’ll be back to check on her as he exits. Lexie wants Dr. Rolf to reassure her and asks if he really believes this cocktail he’s injecting in her is her best shot at staying alive. Dr. Rolf calls it her only option, so she must trust him that her survival is important to him and all of mankind. Lexie then tells him that she’s ready, so he injects her with the drug.
Johnny and Chanel arrive at the hospital and greet Kayla, who notes they are right on time. Kayla asks if they have any last minute questions. Chanel says she doesn’t think so, but wonders why Paulina isn’t there yet. Johnny is sure she’s on her way. Kayla offers to wait until she arrives but Chanel says it’s alright and that she’ll see her afterwards. Chanel tells Johnny she’ll see him after too and kisses him as she then goes with Kayla.
Holly comes back in to the cabin and apologizes to Tate. Tate checks that she has no fever and she didn’t drink so there’s no hangover. Holly blames the meds she’s taking as nausea is a possible side effect. Holly apologizes again but assures she’s really happy to be there with him. Tate says he feels the same and he loves her.
Paulina arrives at the hospital and tells Johnny that she’s sorry for being late and asks where Chanel is. Johnny says she just missed her. Paulina complains that she wanted to see her before surgery. Johnny says it’s okay and that she will see her after. Johnny adds that they understand she’s juggling a lot. Paulina says it’s not that, but that she ran in to Abe on her way here. Johnny knows that must have been hard, especially today. Paulina is surprised he remembered it’s her anniversary. Johnny says of course as it’s also Juneteenth. Paulina calls that the day that reminds them to fight in the face of struggle which is what Chanel is doing now. Johnny encourages that she gets that strength from Paulina. Paulina thanks him for saying that as they hug.
Lani shows Theo a stuffed animal she got for Trey at the aquarium and a second one she got for Rachel which Kristen wanted her to pick up when she found out they were going. Theo admits it still kind of baffles him that Lani and Kristen are so close as he never thought they would be friends. Lani knows it surprises everyone, but says they really bonded when they were in the convent together and that they are a lot more alike than he’d think. Lani says when it comes to their family and kids, they are fierce. Theo states that Kristen is still a DiMera and their hate just intensifies. Lani asks if there’s something else going on that he’s talking about. Theo says it’s just another sibling war and that he doesn’t even know what it’s about this time, but that Kristen has so much contempt for EJ.
Kristen goes to the living room of the DiMera Mansion where EJ tells her there are plenty of other rooms in the house. Kristen responds that this is where the action happens as Lexie then emerges from the tunnels. Kristen greets her and asks how her appointment with Dr. Rolf was. Lexie claims that she doesn’t understand what she’s asking her. Kristen says they are family, so she doesn’t have to hide anything from her. Lexie says if she thought she had to hide anything, she wouldn’t have come through the living room. Kristen asks how she’s feeling. Lexie claims she’s great and that she should get home to her husband before he wonders where she is. Lexie says she’ll see them both soon as she exits. Kristen remarks that she loves having Lexie back even if she doesn’t love how EJ went about doing it. EJ responds that he doesn’t care how she feels about it or anything. Kristen suggests maybe he should care about the possibility that his miracle drug can do more harm than good. EJ tells Kristen not to be so skeptical of the drug when she might be a candidate for it one day.
Lani asks Theo who doesn’t hate EJ and brings up how EJ refused when Paulina asked for the miracle drug for Chanel. Theo is sure that he had his reasons and argues that Chanel’s case is much different than Lexie’s. Theo adds that since Lexie was the first human, they can’t tell how it will work out in the long run.
Johnny tells Paulina that they still have things to work out with the drug and they have no idea how it would affect a pregnancy. Paulina says that EJ didn’t explain that to her and admits she probably didn’t give him a chance. Paulina still feels something about it doesn’t sit right with her. Johnny says that Chanel is concerned about what the drug would do to the baby, so she wouldn’t even consider it. Paulina hopes she won’t have to and she just sails through chemo and child birth like the warrior she is.
Kayla prepares Chanel for surgery. Chanel knows it will be a long road but says she’s ready and she has to be okay for her family. Kayla encourages that she will be. Chanel talks about how she might have a girl and hopes she can watch her grow up. Kayla assures they’ll do everything they can to make sure that happens.
Holly wakes up on the couch with Tate and says she’s feeling much better as they kiss.
Lexie goes home, where Abe questions where she has been. Lexie says she was just visiting her brother and sister, so she’s sorry if she worried him. Abe is glad she felt well enough to go out. Lexie responds that she’s never been to a Juneteenth event before and saw there will be one in the town square, so she asks if they should go together.
Holly and Tate continue kissing until they are interrupted by a knock at the door. They answer it to see a man, who informs Holly that she’s been served.
Johnny and Paulina wait until Kayla brings Chanel out from surgery and tells them that all went well and that Chanel is able to go home. Paulina tells Chanel to call if she needs anything as Chanel and Johnny then exit together. Paulina thanks Kayla for taking care of Chanel. Kayla responds that they are family.
Lani tells Theo that everyone keeps asking about how Lexie and Abe are doing and how Chanel’s holding up, so she asks what about Theo. Lani knows he must feel stuck in the middle as he loves Lexie and Paulina. Theo wishes they could all be one big happy family. Lani assures that Theo and Abe will always be her family and she loves him as they hug.
Abe tells Lexie that he wants to sit out the Juneteenth event as he’s not in the mood to deal with the crowd. Lexie tells him not to be a grump and she’s happy about Juneteenth being celebrated so she’s sure it will be a lovely event. Abe is sure it will be but says he can’t and won’t go.
Kristen asks EJ if he would bring her back from the dead if she met her tragic end. EJ jokes that he’d assume it was a stunt and says he has more important things to do. Kristen stops EJ and questions him not telling her that Chanel has cancer. Kristen is sure EJ is hoping Dr. Rolf can concoct a cure for Chanel so he can get back in Johnny’s good graces. EJ responds that he’s already in his good graces and that he and Johnny are getting along quite well, which she would know if she had even a passing interest in Johnny’s life. Kristen questions when EJ last asked about Rachel. EJ questions if she’s any closer to getting out of Bayview. Kristen remarks that he makes it so easy to hate him. EJ says to send his best as he exits.
Tate questions the man taking the ferry just to find Holly and serve her. Holly opens the paper to find out that Amy Choi is suing her for financial and personal damages and liability in Sophia’s death.
Johnny and Chanel go home where Lani asks how it went. Chanel says it went fine and asks hot it went with Trey. Lani says he was a perfect angel while Theo says he only woke up once. Lani is sure Chanel needs some sleep as well so they will get out of their hair. Johnny thanks them for everything. Lani tells Chanel that she loves her and they’ll talk tomorrow as she and Theo then exit. Johnny asks Chanel how she’s feeling. Chanel says she’s a little sleepy but has no pain. Chanel adds that she’s actually looking forward to starting chemo because it will help her get well and then she can be there for him, Trey, and their baby. Johnny says he’s counting on that. Chanel declares that with him and her family behind her, she can handle anything.
Paulina tells Kayla that she appreciates her thinking of her as family, especially since she and Steve were close to Abe and Lexie long before she ever showed up. Kayla says they do love them but they love Paulina too, so it’s not either or. Paulina responds that it is for Abe. Kayla mentions her shift ending soon and suggests they catch up after Paulina’s Juneteenth speech. Paulina admits she would like that and exits.
Lexie doesn’t understand why Abe is so determined not to go to the Juneteenth celebration. Abe informs her that Paulina will be making a speech. Lexie still thinks they should go which surprises Abe. Lexie says they are all grown ups and calls this something important that they shouldn’t miss.
EJ returns to Dr. Rolf in the lab. Dr. Rolf tells EJ that Lexie’s condition improved almost instantly including her grip strength and he couldn’t be more thrilled with how her body is responding. EJ says thank God for that.
Kristen calls EJ’s daughter Sydney and says it’s been too long and she just wanted to catch up.
