Tate and Holly sit together in the town square, talking about having a nice normal day as Tate says he’s glad to see her like this. Holly recalls being freaked out when Amy Choi said she wanted her charged for manslaughter. Tate says he feels for Sophia’s family but wanting to put Holly in prison is beyond ridiculous. Tate is thankful that Belle and Justin said there is not enough evidence to take it to trial. Holly feels she can finally breathe again, like this whole Sophia nightmare is finally over.
Amy Choi meets Melinda Trask at Small Bar. Melinda admits she was surprised to get her call, knowing she’s not her favorite person. Amy says she wasn’t kind to her when they first met. Melinda understands. Amy brings up Sophia turning to Melinda when wanting to give her child away. Amy cries about not giving Sophia the compassion she needed from her own mother instead of trying to control her. Amy says maybe if she just let Sophia hire Melinda, everything would’ve been different. Melinda says there’s no way to know that. Amy remembers that Melinda warned her that she could lose Sophia if she didn’t accept that it was her decision, and now she has. Amy cries that she would give anything to go back and love her without judgment. Amy asks Melinda what she is to do with all this regret.
Shawn and Jada walk in to the town square. Shawn tells her how much he appreciates her help the last few weeks. Shawn says that since he’s going back to work, maybe it’s time he moves back home. Jada says if that’s what he wants, but points out that he still can’t drive. Shawn doesn’t want to overstay his welcome. Jada assures that he hasn’t, so they agree to go relax back at her place as they walk off together.
Stephanie is asleep on the couch as Joy arrives knocking on the door. Stephanie doesn’t answer as she’s slowly starts to wake up. Joy then pulls out her key to open the door herself. Stephanie wakes up in a dazed panic and grabs her gun from the drawer as she thinks someone is breaking in. Stephanie then fires the gun as Joy opens the door. The bullet misses and hits the wall while Stephanie is shocked to realize it was Joy that she almost shot.
Leo continues watching Kelsey at the Brady Pub until Gwen walks in and asks if he’s airing out his problems to an infant. Leo responds that she’s an excellent listener, so Gwen jokes that maybe she should give it a try then.
Joy is in disbelief as she questions what the hell is wrong with Stephanie. Alex comes home and questions what’s going on. Joy responds that his psycho wife just tried to shoot her as Alex looks down and sees the gun in the drawer.
Leo talks to Gwen about watching Kelsey. Gwen jokes that her problems aren’t PG to talk to Kelsey about and she needs a drink. Leo suggests she could talk to him.
Amy apologizes to Melinda for breaking down and says one of the reasons she reached out is remembering that she also lost her daughter. Melinda recalls drowning in regret and anger along with wondering if she could’ve done more to save her. Melinda encourages that this is not Amy’s fault and to stop blaming herself. Amy says that there is one thing she can do to help fight for her daughter and she hopes Melinda can help her with it.
Holly tells Tate that she’s ready to get her life back on track, starting with her internship. Tate asks about it being on hold with Stephanie. Holly says she took a pause with everything that happened, but she hoped to set up a meeting to get it going again. Holly mentions being excited to start working and making money. Tate is hoping to get some calls from the flyers they posted for a personal trainer. Holly encourages that his business will get going soon. Tate says it better since he just spent all his money on a lease for a new space. Tate adds that if he’s going to make this a job, he’s going to need some real clients. Holly then suggests herself.
Alex picks up the gun and unloads it as he checks on Joy. Joy says she’s fine, no thanks to Stephanie. Alex asks Stephanie what the hell happened. Stephanie explains that she was asleep and heard the door opening, then she saw it wasn’t Alex and thought it was an intruder. Joy argues that it’s not like she was coming through the window. Stephanie cries that she’s sorry. Alex asks where Kelsey is. Joy says she’s thankfully at the Pub with a friend. Alex asks if Joy is sure she’s not hurt. Joy confirms she’s not physically, but points out the bullet hole in the wall and says that could’ve been her head.
Jada brings Shawn home and says she’s glad he decided to stay as she likes having him there. As they prepare to enter Jada’s apartment, they see the bullet on the floor from Alex and Stephanie’s apartment, so they pull their guns and approach their door.
Gwen tells Leo that things were going so well until she got in to it with EJ. Leo says he remains deeply concerned for her safety and asks what happened with EJ. Gwen explains that EJ told her that Xander and Kristen were sleeping together. Leo calls that juicy but Gwen says that’s not the appropriate response and warns him not to print it. Leo asks why she keeps telling him stories that he can’t report. Gwen says he can’t do anything with it because it’s not true, or at least she thinks it’s not true.
Amy tells Melinda that she needs a lawyer who is not going to back down. Melinda reminds her that the district attorney declined to press charges against Holly. Amy calls that outrageous since it was Holly’s vicious cyber bullying that led Sophia to the pier. Melinda says she’s been in her shoes in wanting the person responsible for her daughter’s death to pay. Melinda talks about getting her job back as district attorney and making it her mission to make Kristen pay as she wanted to see her behind bars, but nothing could ease her pain because nothing could bring Haley back. Melinda says she may never know if Kristen’s actions were intentional or accidental, but she realized fighting that battle would never fill the hole in her heart. Melinda adds that through time and forgiveness, she was able to move forward with her life. Amy responds that she’s working on accepting that Sophia is gone, but she will never accept Holly getting away scot free. Amy calls Holly a heartless bully who pushed Sophia to the point of feeling so hopeless and alone. Melinda wishes Sophia knew she had other choices. Amy cries that she had no body to bury and never got to say a proper goodbye. Amy declares that everyone has given up on her child and asks Melinda not to give up too and to help her fight to get justice for her daughter.

Tate repeats that he loves seeing her like this. Holly mentions having an appointment with Dr. Fuller tomorrow as they leave the town square together.
Shawn and Jada enter Alex and Stephanie’s apartment to find out what happened. Shawn tells Joy that he wants to take her statement, so Jada takes Stephane in to her room. Shawn then asks Joy to take her time and tell him what happened. Joy explains that she came earlier to get a stuffed animal that her daughter left behind and then Alex gave her a key in case it ever happened again, adding that Stephanie saw him give it to her. Joy continues that she and Kelsey went to the Pub but she realized that she didn’t have her phone, so she retraced her steps here and knocked loudly several times but nobody answered, so she thought nobody was home and used her key, then the next thing she knows, she’s dodging bullets.
Stephanie tells Jada that she can’t believe she made such a terrible mistake. Jada points out that it was inches away from being a horrific tragedy and guesses her gun wasn’t stored properly which Stephanie admits. Stephanie says she gets now why it’s so important to store the gun away from the ammo. Jada states that if she had done that, she would’ve had enough time to see the person entering her apartment wasn’t a threat. Jada adds that she knows Steve taught her all of this and how to be safe. Stephanie complains that she still didn’t feel safe, so she kept the gun loaded in the drawer of the end table. Jada points out how dangerous that is while Stephanie argues that it felt more dangerous to not have it ready the second that she needed it. Stephanie says she wanted to feel able to defend herself but instead, she panicked as soon as the door opened. Jada asks who she thought it was. Stephanie says she just knew it wasn’t Alex and then thought it was Owen and she would not let him hurt her again, so she just pulled the trigger. Stephanie asks Jada what is going to happen now.
Tate brings Holly to his new gym space that he bought. They talk about potential names for the gym. Holly suggests he show her some moves.
Melinda tells Amy that she feels for her, but she agrees that there’s not enough evidence to file criminal charges against Holly and if she did, the trial would be agonizing and likely not lead to a satisfying conclusion. Amy wants to file a civil suit because she wants Holly to stand up in court to take responsibility for the harm she caused. Amy wants Holly to swear to God and everyone that she will never do what she did to Sophia to anyone else. Amy declares that she hopes to accomplish making the world safe from Holly Jonas.
Gwen explains to Leo that since she’s trying to buy the hospital from EJ, he tried to retaliate and so she marched right over to the Salem Inn where she found Xander and Kristen just having a business meeting. Leo reminds her how they bumped in to Kristen in the Salem Inn the other day and maybe she was doing business with Xander. Leo points out that if they were doing business, Xander has an office. Gwen explains that Kristen said they wanted to keep things on the down low because of the issues between Titan and DiMera which seemed plausible to her.
Shawn tells Alex that he will get his statement next. Alex responds that he’s not trying to downplay what happened but it was just one bullet and it went through the wall. Joy argues that the one bullet could’ve killed her and that Stephanie pulled the trigger without even seeing her or knowing who it was. Alex argues that they have no way of knowing that Stephanie meant to or what she was thinking. Alex goes over how Stephanie just got a 15 hour flight from China, was exhausted and took a sleeping pill so she was disoriented and confused. Joy shouts that it doesn’t mean a thing and asks what if Kelsey had been with her when the bullet came flying at her head. Alex doesn’t want to think about it. Joy says he needs to because his daughter could have died.
Jada says she knows Stephanie has been through Hell and the fear she’s living with is real. Stephanie responds that she just wants to feel safe. Jada states that what happened is extremely serious and that she and Joy are both incredibly lucky. Stephanie is thankful she didn’t hurt her. Jada points out that Stephanie pulled a gun on an innocent person and fired it, so that can’t be brushed aside. Stephanie asks if she’s going to arrest her.
Gwen tells Leo that she believes it because Kristen is her friend and Xander is her lover. Gwen adds that she has no delusions that Xander has feelings for her, but says if it was true, she would rip their eyes out. Leo wonders where Joy is as it’s taking her a long time to find her phone while Kelsey needs a diaper change. Gwen takes that as her cue to go. Leo reminds Gwen to not let EJ mess with her head, to watch her back and be careful. Gwen says that’s the plan as she exits the Pub.
Tate has Holly begin stretching to start her work out and they end up kissing.
Shawn tells Joy that she can go now and he’ll be in touch if he has more questions. Alex asks if Stephanie is going to be charged with anything. Shawn responds that it’s not his call. Joy argues that Stephanie shot at her and they can’t pretend that didn’t happen. Alex understands she’s upset and scared, but argues that nobody was hurt. Joy complains that she almost died. Joy says she can’t do this as she needs to get back to Kelsey since all she can think about is how lucky she is to be there. Alex offers her a ride. Joy says she’s fine but Alex argues that she’s in no condition to drive. Joy gives in but warns Alex not to talk to her in the car. Shawn wishes them luck as they exit.
Jada tells Stephanie that she’s not arresting her right now, but there has to be a full investigation. Jada warns Stephanie to be careful and think about what she wants to say. Stephanie says that everything is fuzzy and she actually doesn’t know. Jada says they will go over her statement and Joy’s, then go from there. Stephanie says that none of this feels real as it’s like a nightmare or she’s losing her mind. Stephanie knows Owen is in prison but she still thought in that moment. Stephanie asks Jada about taking the gun. Jada says that she and Shawn have to. Stephanie says that’s good because she doesn’t want it here. Stephanie thought the gun was the answer and that she’d finally have her power back, but it just made it worse. Stephanie cries that she thought she was getting better.
Tate and Holly kiss until realizing they forgot to lock the door as Gwen walks in. Tate greets her and asks how he can help her. Gwen asks where to sign up for self defense training.
Jada comes out of the bedroom and tells Shawn that Stephanie is a total wreck. Shawn says Joy is too and that Alex gave her a ride back to the Pub. Shawn calls this a mess. Stephanie comes in, so Shawn asks how she’s feeling. Stephanie responds that she did something really reckless and irresponsible. Shawn says they will get to the bottom of this and find out what happened. Stephanie knows he has to follow the rules, so she doesn’t expect any special treatment. Stephanie asks where Alex is. Shawn informs her that he took Joy back to the Pub to be with Kelsey. Jada asks if there’s anything they can do. Stephanie thought she knew how to feel safe, but now she doesn’t know anything anymore.
Alex brings Joy back to the Pub where Leo says Kelsey was a dream. Leo asks Joy what happened and why she looks like hell. Joy explains that Stephanie pulled out her gun and almost shot her. Alex calls it an accident. Joy disagrees, arguing that Stephanie barely missed. Leo asks for more details. Joy explains that she was looking for her phone and ended up back at Alex’s apartment, where Stephanie used her for target practice. Leo calls it quite the story. Alex warns him not to print it and asks to speak to Joy. Joy says she needs time to think this through. Alex asks Joy not to rush to any decision and to call him if she needs anything. Joy says right now, she just needs to be with her daughter.
Gwen tells Tate that she’s very interested in signing up for his self defense classes, so Holly leaves to let them talk. Tate tells Gwen that he’s excited because he wasn’t expecting to get any paying clients today. Gwen realizes she would be his first client and asks what she wins.
Shawn tells Stephanie that they will be across the hall if she needs anything from them. Alex comes home, so Stephanie asks how Joy is. Alex says she’s shaken up but okay and just needed to be with Kelsey. Shawn repeats to Alex that they are right across the hall if they need anything. Jada tells Stephanie they will talk soon and to hang in there as she hugs her. Shawn tells Alex the same as he and Jada then exit.
Tate offers Gwen a free in take session which Gwen accepts. Tate asks if she has any previous experience with self defense. Gwen tells him that she does with street fighting. Tate asks what her goals are. Gwen responds that it’s to make sure EJ DiMera doesn’t murder her as she puts on gloves and punches the punching bag, impressing Tate.
In the hall, Jada tells Shawn that she feels so awful for Stephanie and worries about if she has to arrest her best friend. Shawn says they will hope it doesn’t come to that.
Leo asks Joy about Stephanie almost shooting her and how it must have been terrifying. Leo encourages that Joy and Kelsey are safe and okay now. Joy says they are this time. Joy declares that she doesn’t care if Stephanie is Alex’s wife, she doesn’t want her near her child ever again.
Alex and Stephanie go to their bedroom as Stephanie asks what Joy said. Alex says not much. Stephanie tells him that she’s so sorry. Alex doesn’t want to think about it right now as she’s exhausted. Alex suggests she lay down and rest, so Alex holds her in bed.
Holly runs in to Amy in the town square. Amy tells her to save her fake sympathy as she’s sure Holly and Tate have been celebrating the district attorney’s decision not to bring charges against her. Amy warns Holly that this is not even close to over as she walks away.
