Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph
Rafe meets Cat in his office where Cat tells him that she thinks she found a way to get EJ and that he’s going to put it right in her hands.
Theo goes to the DiMera Mansion to see EJ and asks what’s going on. EJ says he just wanted to see how Lexie was feeling. Theo says she’s great. EJ asks if he’s sure. Theo says he is and asks why.
Abe and Lexie eat with Marlena at the Brady Pub. Lexie comments on Marlena looking exactly the same as she remembers. Marlena feels like she’s aged 100 years since losing John. Abe brings up yesterday being the first anniversary of his passing. Marlena tells them it was emotional, but she got what she felt was a sign and it made her feel more at peace. Lexie brings up that Stefano was able to save her from death and asks if there’s any chance. Marlena says no and that the ISA were very thorough in confirming that John is gone, so like Stefano, he will not be returning to them.
At home, Chanel finishes a call about cancelling her appointment. Johnny brings her decaf coffee as she tells him that her call was to schedule a surgery, but that is not happening. Johnny hoped that after sleeping on it, she would change her mind about not following Dr. George’s medical advice. Chanel responds that she hasn’t and she won’t.
Cat informs Rafe that she told EJ about her mother’s dementia rapidly progressing and how she’s not responding to traditional treatments. Rafe says he’s sorry to hear that. Cat says she talked to Mark about the miracle drug they used to bring Lexie back, but he said there’s no way the FDA would approve it in time to help her mom, so she went directly to EJ and brought up how both of their families directly suffered at the hands of Clyde Weston and asked if there was any way she could get the drug to her mother. Cat adds that EJ agreed to talk to Dr. Rolf and if he agreed, he would get her the drug but there would be conditions. Cat says she asked about the conditions but he had to get to a meeting. Rafe argues that they are on a mission to gather intelligence so it would be nice if she actually gathered intelligence. Cat responds that she will as soon as EJ gets back to her. Rafe says that’s a maybe and he doesn’t like it.
EJ tells Theo that he’s glad Lexie is doing well. Theo questions why he’s asking about her. EJ guesses he’s overprotective because her situation is unprecedented. Theo says that’s one way to describe it. EJ mentions hearing that Paulina stepped aside. Theo remarks that he’s sure EJ is happy about that. EJ questions if Theo isn’t. Theo responds that he honestly doesn’t know how he feels.
Chanel tells Johnny that she is not changing her mind and complains about Dr. George’s treatment and assumptions. Chanel argues against Johnny wanting her to change her mind and calls Dr. George an ass, adding that her real concerns were being completely dismissed by him and now by Johnny. Johnny argues that he’s not dismissing her concerns. Chanel remarks that he just wants her to shut up and take orders. Johnny calls that unfair. Chanel says it’s unfair that they want to bully her in to things she’s not comfortable with. Johnny points out that even Sarah said keeping her healthy has to be their first priority and they have to take care of her first. Chanel shouts that she can not hear him saying her life is more important than the baby’s and it’s not like he’s not listening to her. Chanel remarks that he flips out if she has caffeine but is fine with them pumping poison in to her veins. Johnny says he’s just saying they should talk about this. Chanel declares that they don’t need to talk about anything because she has made her decision that there will be no chemo and no surgery because it’s her body and her baby.
Marlena tells Lexie that she spoke to her doctors and there are excellent reports about her health. Lexie mentions scheduling follow ups with Kayla to make sure it stays that way. Marlena asks Abe about Chanel and her pregnancy. Abe says that as far as he knows, she’s doing well but admits he hasn’t spoken to her or Paulina recently. Lexie clarifies that she told Abe that she needs him to be focused on their family and he agreed.
Rafe tells Cat that it’s not too late to turn back as she can take back asking for his help or he can pull her from this case. Cat questions if he would do that. Rafe says he would if it means keeping her safe and that he warned Cat that EJ was a monster. Rafe complains that she keeps calling audibles and reminds her that she’s not a trained agent but they keep having this same conversation. Rafe brings up when Cat drugged EJ on her own to search his house. Cat says she already admitted to that being a mistake. Rafe says this is too and reminds her that if EJ finds out she’s playing him, he will not hesitate to come after her or her family. Cat gives her word that she can handle EJ. Rafe argues that she promised last time that she would not engage in any more irresponsible behavior, yet here they are. Rafe warns Cat that if she goes rogue again, they are done because he can’t work with someone he can’t trust. Cat says she understands and it won’t happen again because she knows how important this investigation is. Rafe declares that they have to stop EJ’s drug before it hits the black market. Cat admits she’s still hearing chatter on the dark web and several anonymous inquiries to buy it, but no deals made yet. Rafe states that the drugs untested or regulated but if it really can reverse death and diseases, it has the potential to reshape the future of mankind. Rafe says they need to get a sample of it and make sure it does not fall in to the wrong hands. Rafe adds that if EJ does give it to Cat to give to her mother, she can’t give it to her or they will lose their chance to nail EJ.
Theo tells EJ that he’s thrilled to have his mom back but it causes a lot of problems for Paulina and that side of the family. EJ says that was to be expected but in time, things will normalize. Theo is unsure as he feels there’s more curveballs coming like last night when Lexie said she was disappointed that he stepped down from DiMera and wanted him to reconsider coming back. EJ says he’s glad to hear that. Theo questions why. EJ informs him that Johnny and DiMera may need his help.
Johnny tells Chanel that he thought it was their baby. Chanel says it is, but this is her choice and he promised to respect that. Johnny says he also said she should listen to her doctors recommendations who agree that this is the best course of treatment. Chanel complains that she asked Dr. George about long term studies proving it wouldn’t have any adverse effects on their baby and he couldn’t. Chanel calls it a risk she’s not willing to take. Johnny points out that she was the last time she was pregnant when she was exposed to radiation and the doctors didn’t know. Johnny states that she miscarried but they both decided to carry to term and get through it. Chanel argues that radiation exposure wasn’t a choice while chemotherapy would be and she’s not going to make a choice to hurt the baby. Johnny says he doesn’t want that either but questions what would be worse than growing up without a mother.
Lexie says the food was just as delicious as she remembers and gets up to go compliment Roman. Marlena tells Abe that she knows he has some difficult decisions to make, so whatever happens, she’s there for him. Abe thanks her and hopes she will be there for Paulina too since she considers her a dear friend and he’s sure she could use one right now. Marlena agrees to be there for her as well then.
Cat tells Rafe that she’s well aware that if she gets the sample, she has to turn it over to Rafe. Rafe asks if she’s sure she’s okay with that after everything her family has been through and if she’s willing to walk away from a drug that could help her mother. Cat hopes there’s another option and the drug can get developed and approved in record time, then her mom could receive it. Rafe notes that could happen. Cat knows there’s no guarantees but she can and will do her job.
Theo asks EJ why DiMera would need his help as he knows EJ wanted him gone and for Johnny to stay as CEO. EJ says normally, he had no hesitation about Johnny running the company on his own but unfortunately, he will have to take a step back to support Chanel during her illness. Theo questions what illness. EJ apologizes as he thought Theo knew. EJ then reveals to him that Chanel has breast cancer.
Chanel tells Johnny that she doesn’t want to hide and she’s not going to. Chanel says she wants to wait until after the baby is born and the cure rate for her cancer is high. Johnny worries that would be putting off her treatment for months and Dr. George said it’s important to get started right away. Chanel feels doctors are often overly cautious and want to brag about their success rate. Johnny feels most doctors know what they are talking about while Chanel feels Dr. George wasn’t caring, he was arrogant and condescending. Johnny says he doesn’t disagree, so Chanel questions why he’s defending him. Johnny says he just doesn’t think that’s the normal since his experience with doctors was great. Chanel says his experience might be different than a black woman. Chanel talks about being ignored, overlooked, or told they aren’t in pain when they are. Chanel feels being told not to ask questions is exactly what Johnny is doing now. Johnny disagrees. Chanel says this whole conversation is stressing her out and she knows that can’t be good for her or the baby, so she’s going to check on Trey.
Lexie returns to the table and jokes about being spoiled between Roman and Theo’s cooking. Abe informs Marlena that Theo told him that she knew about Lexie. Marlena admits she did and hopes he understands that she could not violate Theo’s confidentiality. Abe says he didn’t bring it up because he’s upset, but he wanted to thank her as he’s grateful that Theo had someone to help him through all of this. Lexie agrees as she can’t imagine the huge shock it was for everyone to find out she was alive. Lexie thanks Marlena for being there for their son. Marlena is glad that he turned to her. Marlena says it was great to see them but she has to get back to work.
Rafe tells Cat that before he signs off, he needs to know she won’t agree to any conditions that will put her in harm’s way or allow EJ to prey on her in any other way. Cat questions how EJ could prey on her when she’s the one exploiting their connection. Rafe declares that from here on out, he wants her to keep it professional with EJ. Cat responds that might not be possible much longer since the state medical board has taken steps to remove EJ from hospital ownership and Gwen is putting in a bid to buy it. Cat doesn’t think EJ has a say in the matter, but if EJ loses the hospital, she loses her job and if he forbids her from using their personal connection, she loses her access to EJ.
Theo tells EJ that he has to go. EJ asks if Theo would be receptive to coming back to DiMera Enterprises as a second in command while Johnny remains CEO. Theo asks if he’s talked to Johnny or Tony about this. EJ says not yet as he wanted to run it by him first. Theo agrees to do whatever he can to help.
Paulina goes to Johnny and Chanel’s. Paulina tells Johnny that she knows Chanel hasn’t had much appetite but she brought food that she won’t be able to resist. Johnny tells Paulina that he needs her to talk some sense in to Chanel because she’s refusing cancer treatment and is adamant that she have no chemo or surgery until after the baby is born. Paulina questions why. Johnny explains that had an awful experience with Dr. George as Chanel went in with a lot of good questions and he kind of just steamrolled her. Paulina calls that inexcusable. Johnny agrees but says his recommendations all line up with the other doctors and Chanel still insists on putting her life at risk based on a hypothetical. Johnny says he’s trying to be understanding and supportive and say all the right things, but he feels Chanel is being stubborn, shortsighted, and ridiculous. Johnny hopes Paulina has better luck because Chanel won’t listen to a word he’s saying. Chanel then comes back in the room and says she hears him loud and clear.
Rafe asks Cat for the latest on EJ trying to recover his memories of their time in Italy. Cat says that EJ said he saw Marlena but he couldn’t remember anything new, so the hypnosis apparently didn’t work, but he asked her if she would let Marlena hypnotize her. Cat says she told EJ that she already tried and didn’t remember anything. Rafe says that’s good as he thought she might be tempted to give it a try. Cat says she would worry about what she might say under hypnosis and can’t risk Marlena finding out that she’s ISA or any other secrets she’s keeping. Rafe agrees and says she should probably tell Marlena what she told EJ, so he doesn’t catch her in a lie.
Marlena runs in to EJ at the hospital. EJ says he knows she can’t tell him about her hypnosis session with Cat, but he was very disappointed she wasn’t able to remember anything either and asks if she has any other techniques to use. Marlena states that she can’t talk about others’ treatment but she already told him that the chance of him recovering those memories was very slim because he was unconscious. EJ points out that Cat wasn’t. Marlena suggests they just leave it at that.
Abe and Lexie go home. Lexie praises their breakfast and talks about how spending time with good friends can be beneficial to one’s health. Lexie says that seeing Marlena was good for her soul. Abe says seeing her is good for his heart while Lexie says she feels the same. Lexie goes to freshen up and then Theo comes home. Theo reveals to Abe that he just found out Chanel has breast cancer. Abe is shocked and tells Theo not to tell Lexie anything other than that he’s just gone out as he then exits.
Johnny apologizes to Chanel. Paulina points out that he’s not necessarily wrong. Paulina knows Chanel would do anything to protect her baby and says she would do anything to protect hers. Chanel tells her not to pressure her. Paulina says that’s the last thing she wants to do while Chanel complains that it’s all Johnny’s been doing. Paulina tells her that Johnny explained to her how Dr. George was. Chanel cries that he was dismissive of all her concerns and she was so furious. Paulina completely understands how she feels, but says it sounds like the issue is with the one doctor and not necessarily the treatment plan, so she suggests finding a doctor who will treat her with the respect she deserves. Paulina insists they will find her a compassionate doctor who can answer all of her questions. Chanel complains that Johnny doesn’t want to do that and just wants to jump straight in to chemo regardless of the baby. Johnny says he doesn’t want any of this but he loves her and needs her. Paulina brings up when she was in the hospital, Chanel and Lani told her the same thing. Chanel cries that she would never forgive herself if it hurt her unborn child and asks why she can’t just wait until the baby is born. Paulina points out that the sooner she starts treatment, the higher the success rate. Chanel says she can’t decide this right now. Paulina says she doesn’t have to and that they will find another doctor to give a second opinion.
Cat goes to the hospital where Marlena questions why she told EJ that she had a session with her. Cat says she had to get him off her back and questions if he asked her about it. Marlena says she was forced to cover for her. Cat apologizes. Marlena asks if EJ has been pressuring her to go under hypnosis. Cat says he’s just been strongly encouraging it because he’s determined to know more about their time in Italy, but she thinks the past should just stay in the past. Marlena questions her lying to EJ. Cat feels it was the only way and apologizes for putting her in an awkward position. Cat says she’ll see her later and walks away.
Abe goes to Chanel and Johnny’s apartment and runs in to Paulina outside the door. Paulina asks what he’s doing there. Abe tells her that Theo told him about Chanel and he’s so sorry. Abe adds that he’s also sorry he hasn’t been in touch. Paulina says she understands and it’s very kind of him to stop by. Abe wants to check on Chanel but Paulina doesn’t think that’s a good idea since she and Johnny have been dealing with a lot, so seeing him might be a reminder of other issues and they don’t need that right now. Abe asks her to tell them that he’s praying for them which Paulina agrees to do. Paulina and Abe say goodbye to each other as she walks away.
Johnny hopes Chanel will listen to Paulina and let them find another doctor who will listen to her concerns. Johnny says he is not trying to pressure her and just wants her to hear another voice and perspective. Chanel agrees to get a second opinion. Johnny asks what if they say that she needs to start chemo right away. Chanel says if the doctor makes her feel heard and answers all of her questions to her satisfaction, then she’ll do it. Johnny is relieved as he hugs her.
EJ goes to the hospital and gets a call from Dr. Rolf. EJ questions what is so urgent and if he’s saying there’s a problem with their miracle drug.
Lexie comes back and asks Theo where Abe is. Theo responds that he had to go out and run some errands. Theo then says his phone battery is low so he’s going to grab his charger. After he leaves the room, Lexie gets dizzy and stumbles slightly.
