Justin enters the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion to find Alex and says it’s good to see him as they embrace. Justin says his timing couldn’t be better as EJ has been leaning on him to get Titan to drop the lawsuit against DiMera and for the first time, he agrees with him. Alex says he doesn’t have to give him the hard sell as he was against the lawsuit from the beginning. Alex adds that he tried to talk Xander and Kate out of it but they wouldn’t budge. Alex says he’d be happy to try again. Justin says he would appreciate that since it’s very hurtful to Bonnie and he wants to protect her. Alex assures that he always has his back, but that’s not why he came. Justin asks if there’s something wrong. Alex says no but reveals that he just found out Justin is a Grandfather again.
Jada visits Stephanie at her apartment and says she feels like she hasn’t seen her in forever as she’s been swamped with work. Jada says she has to get to the station soon but wanted to check in and see how she’s doing. Stephanie responds that she’s a hot mess.
Arianna goes home to the Hernandez house and questions Gabi being there. Gabi responds that she might not live there anymore but it’s still her home. Gabi adds that Rafe told her it was move out day at the dorms, so she took the day off to help her unpack. Arianna responds that she’s not buying it, pointing out that she’s just moving home for the summer, not across the country so she questions what this is really about. Gabi admits she got her and that she wanted to talk to her. Arianna guesses it’s about Liam.
Roman returns to the Pub, so Kate asks how Johnny is. Roman says he’s better and might be discharged tomorrow which Kate calls wonderful news. Kate questions Roman looking down. Roman says he ran in to Marlena at the hospital, so Kate asks what made him so unhappy. Roman says it’s the lawsuit mess with Johnny and Titan as Marlena believes Johnny is telling the truth that Kate set him up.
Johnny wakes up in his hospital bed, surprised to see Amy Choi at his side and questions what she’s doing there. Amy responds that she came to say she’s so deeply sorry for what her daughter did to him.
Chanel walks through the town square with Trey in his stroller and is surprised to run in to Joy with Kelsey in her stroller. Joy says she’s been meaning to let her know she was back in town. Chanel remarks that she’s not sure why she would. Joy congratulates Chanel. Chanel responds that she and Johnny are very blessed. Joy introduces Chanel to her daughter Kelsey. Chanel then asks who her dad is.
Johnny tells Amy that she doesn’t have to apologize to him but she feels she does. Amy states that when Sophia came back from Bayview, she and her husband were so happy and thought they could go back to normal, but they wouldn’t let themselves see how much Sophia was still hurting. Amy is grateful that he’s going to be okay. Johnny thanks her and says he’s sorry for her loss. Amy argues that Sophia isn’t gone because if she were, she’d know it. Amy believes in her heart that her daughter is still alive and they will find her.
Justin asks if Alex is saying Stephanie is pregnant. Alex says if only it were that simple. Justin doesn’t understand so Alex reveals that he just found out he has a daughter named Kelsey with Joy Wesley and she’s six months old.
Stephanie tells Jada that Jeremy brought Joy back to town, made a pass at her, and then left town when she rejected him. Stephanie thinks her rejection is what pushed Jeremy back to New York, but confirms Joy is sticking around with Alex’s baby. Jada tells her that she’s so sorry as this is the last thing they need right now. Stephanie adds that Alex is glad Joy’s not going back to New York so he can get to know his daughter. Jada asks how she feels about it. Stephanie admits that she hates it so much.
Kate tells Roman that Marlena think the worst of her and asks if she gave him any proof that she set Johnny up. Roman says Marlena’s gut feelings are usually right. Kate mocks him trusting Marlena’s gut over her word. Kate guesses Marlena got in his head and now he doesn’t know what to believe which Roman admits is true.
Arianna tells Gabi that she knew this was coming as she could feel her waiting to pounce as soon as she saw her and Liam together at the book store. Gabi questions Arianna ghosting her and ignoring all of her messages. Arianna reminds her that she’s in the middle of finals and that not everything is about her. Gabi argues that she was avoiding her because she knows Liam is trouble. Arianna doesn’t want to hear this but Gabi says she’s her mother, so she’s going to hear it whether she likes it or not.
Johnny tells Amy that he knows Sophia blamed him for a lot of pain that she went through and he’s sorry for that as he never meant to hurt her. Amy accepts his apology, but in her heart it’s very difficult to let go of the anger she feels. Johnny says he understands and asks if he can do anything to help. Amy asks him to promise that her grandson won’t grow up hating Sophia and that he won’t badmouth Sophia to Trey. Johnny promises that all they will tell Trey is that Sophia loved him and that she did what she thought was best for him. Johnny adds that he and Chanel would be more than happy to allow Amy to visit Trey which she says would mean the world to her and thanks him.
Joy informs Chanel that Kelsey is Alex’s baby. Chanel questions Alex not knowing while she was pregnant. Joy explains that she thought she was doing the right thing by leaving town as she didn’t think Alex would want a kid with her when he just got back with Stephanie and she didn’t want to come between them. Chanel asks if now she’s changed her mind. Joy says she might have read the situation as Alex wants to be involved in Kelsey’s life. Chanel asks if that means she’s staying in Salem which Joy confirms.
Stephanie complains to Jada that when Joy was in Salem before, she was obsessed with Alex and they had a weird relationship while now Joy has given Alex what she might never and something that he really wants, a child, which ties them together forever. Jada argues that they are co-parents, but Stephanie is the woman that Alex loves and wants to spend his life with. Stephanie repeats that the timing couldn’t be worse as she’s dealing with PTSD which is why she told Alex that she wasn’t sure having a kid was even on the table for her anymore and now she has to fit another woman’s child into the mix. Stephanie questions how she is supposed to fit a baby in to her life without absolutely losing it. Stephanie cries that she doesn’t know if she can do this and questions how to tell Alex that without sounding like the worst person in the world. Jada encourages her not to worry about how it sounds and just say it.
Justin tells Alex this must be quite a shock for him which he confirms. Alex says he took one look at Kelsey and she immediately had his heart. Justin is grateful that Joy didn’t keep Kelsey away from him for too long since he knows how that feels. Justin calls that a long time ago and he doesn’t ever want to speak ill of the dead, but Alex’s mother keeping him from he and Adrienne was hell. Justin adds that he’d go through all of it again because he thanks God every day that he did find him. Justin knows Alex’s whole life just changed in the blink of an eye. Justin relates to his changing too when he first held Alex and says it changed him for the better as he’s thankful to be his father as they hug.
Arianna asks Gabi not to do this. Gabi argues that she’s just looking out for her. Arianna complains that she always goes from 0 to 60 and is freaking out when she and Liam aren’t even in a relationship. Gabi questions why she let him stay in her dorm room then. Arianna says she was just helping a friend. Gabi brings up that one of Vivian’s goons shot him while Arianna argues that Vivian is dead now so she doesn’t have to worry. Gabi says that’s not all she’s worried about. Gabi argues that anyone who would help kidnap the DiMeras is dangerous and asks Arianna if she even cares that Theo almost died. Arianna argues that Liam didn’t know what was going on. Gabi points out that Liam didn’t go to the police. Arianna asks why it’s so hard to understand that he was scared. Gabi doesn’t understand why she keeps defending Liam. Gabi then points out that it’s what Gabi did when she was married to Stefan.
Roman tells Kate that he really wants to believe her but so much of this doesn’t add up. Roman questions why she and Marlena working together at Basic Black fell apart. Kate says to ask Xander because Marlena said she had second thoughts about working with her which did sting. Roman brings up Marlena and Johnny both being convinced that she set Johnny up and that he’s repeatedly begged her to drop the lawsuit which Kate says she has told him is out of her hands because it’s a Titan matter now. Kate doesn’t think it’s Roman’s place to be telling her how to run her business. Roman argues that it sure is when it’s hurting his family. Kate thought his family was her family but says maybe she was wrong about all of that.
Amy tells Johnny that she should let him rest. Amy gives Johnny the photo of Trey that was left with Sophia’s suicide note. Johnny remembers Sophia taking it when she left and then tells Amy to keep it so she always has a piece of Trey and Sophia with her. Amy thanks him and comments that Trey looks a bit like Sophia.
Joy tells Chanel that she heard about Johnny’s accident. Chanel argues that it wasn’t an accident and that someone tried to murder him. Joy says she’s just glad he’s okay. Joy is sure Chanel would rather she not visit him. Chanel tells Joy that’s enough and she’s not doing this. Chanel declares that they aren’t friends and she is nobody to them. Chanel tells Joy to stay out of her way and out of their lives as she storms off.
Stephanie tells Jada that she’s right that bottling up her feelings won’t do any good. Jada points out that Alex’s world has changed too and he wouldn’t be the man she married if he didn’t step up to be there for Kelsey right now. Stephanie questions what that looks like, if they are going to share custody, and where Kelsey is going to live. Jada encourages her to just breathe, pointing out that she hasn’t even met Kelsey yet. Jada says Stephanie is great with kids, recalling how much she adored Thomas and Charlotte. Jada suggests maybe this will surprise her and Kelsey will melt her heart too.
Alex tells Justin that he thinks of Adrienne so often and how good she was to him, even though he drove them to their limit at times. Justin says that Adrienne loved him like her own. Justin acknowledges it was tough in the beginning but he was their first child and they were just learning. Justin talks about Adrienne being so proud of being a mom of all of the boys. Alex hopes Stephanie will eventually feel the same way about Kelsey. Justin asks when he gets to meet his granddaughter. Alex says very soon. Justin tells him he’s here if he needs anything. Alex appreciates that and assures he will need him.
Gabi tells Arianna that was a low blow, arguing that Stefan was nothing like Liam as he was smart and charming. Arianna says he was a criminal among other things. Gabi argues that she knew what she was getting in to while Liam can’t even read, has a five year old son, and his ex overdosed. Arianna states that she’s made her point. Gabi stops her and says she doesn’t think she has. Gabi instructs Arianna to stay away from Liam and warns that if she doesn’t, she’s going to have to do something about it. Arianna questions what she’s going to do. Gabi tells her not to test her and just stay away from him.
Roman assures Kate that his family is her family and he loves how connected they are. Kate responds that sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. Roman says he loves all of her and he grounds her while she challenges him. Roman adds that he knows what Kate is capable of when backed into a corner and points out that what happened to Johnny has benefitted her son’s company which is why something doesn’t smell right with the whole situation. Kate suggests they not argue in front of the customers, so Roman says this is to be continued and goes to get some air.
Arianna runs in to Amy in the town square and tells her how sorry she is about Sophia. Amy questions if she really is.
Chanel brings Trey to visit Johnny in the hospital. Johnny says he can’t wait to get out and hopes that Paulina and Abe don’t mind if they crash there for awhile. Chanel jokes that they would keep them forever if it meant more time with Trey. Chanel then reveals to Johnny that she ran in to Joy Wesley in the town square. Johnny is surprised to learn Joy is back in town. Chanel adds that Joy had her daughter and that Alex is the father. Johnny is sure that wasn’t pleasant. Chanel calls it awkward to say the least and admits she was a bit colder to Joy than she needed to be, but says the last thing she needs is to worry about her being in town too.
Joy goes to the Pub with Kelsey where Kate is surprised to see her and greets her as Joy reveals that Alex is the father of her baby.
Alex shows Justin photos of Kelsey. Gabi comes in looking for her date planner and greets them. Justin says he has to get going and invites Alex to join him for lunch with Bonnie where they can tell her the big news. Alex says he’d love to but he should go check on Stephanie. They hug as Justin then exits. Gabi asks Alex if everything is okay with Stephanie. Alex says not really.
Kate questions Alex being the father which Joy calls a long story. Kate offers to pour some coffee while they talk about it as Stephanie then enters the Pub.
Chanel and Johnny talk about Amy Choi. Johnny says he can’t stop thinking about how much different things would be if he never backed out of the adoption without thinking how much it would affect Sophia and Chanel. Chanel stops him and says that Sophia was offered help at Bayview so what she did next is not on them or anyone else.
Arianna tells Amy that she does feel terrible about what happened because Sophia was her friend. Amy recalls them being inseparable as kids and how happy Sophia was when Arianna moved back to town. Amy states that Sophia thought Arianna was her best friend until she turned her back on her. Arianna argues that Sophia hurt people she cares about while Amy argues that Sophia was sick and needed her help, not her hate. Arianna says none of them knew how badly Sophia was hurting. Amy agrees that she didn’t see it either and she will never forgive herself for that, but she will stand up for Sophia now and get justice for her daughter. Amy then walks away, leaving Arianna holding back tears.
Alex tells Gabi that he wants to be apart of Kelsey’s life but it’s tough as Stephanie didn’t plan on any of this when they got married. Gabi says she’s no stranger to complicated co-parenting but she made things work with Will and Sonny. Alex says that Arianna is lucky to have three parents. Gabi says they clash at times but she loves her daughter and doesn’t want to miss any more time with her like she did in prison or when Arianna was living with Will and Sonny. Gabi encourages that Alex already missed the first few months of Kelsey’s life so he shouldn’t miss another secret. Gabi tells Alex that he will be a great dad. Gabi says co-parenting can’t be about Joy or how they feel about her as it’s all about the baby now. Alex thanks her.
Kate goes to get coffee as Joy greets Stephanie. Stephanie mentions that Alex said she was sticking around Salem. Joy says she told him she could go back to New York but Alex said he’d rather she stay in town so he could get to know Kelsey. Joy knows the situation is weird but promises that all she wants is what’s best for her daughter. Joy has Stephanie say hello to Kelsey. Stephanie says she is sure she will see them both around as Kate comes back and questions Stephanie leaving without ordering anything. Stephanie declines and quickly exits the Pub.
Gabi talks to Philip on the phone and says she can’t wait for him to come home as she’s missed him so much. Philip tells her that he has a surprise for her so Gabi questions if he’s going to make her wait or tell her now.
Alex runs in to Stephanie in the town square and says he was hoping to take her to lunch. Alex asks if everything is alright. Stephanie responds that everything is fine and lunch sounds perfect. Alex asks what she’s in the mood for. Stephanie says anything but the Pub, so they head to the Bistro together.
Kate admits to Joy that she heard all of her conversation and asks where she’s staying. Joy says she’s at the Salem Inn for now which Kate says is no place for a baby. Kate offers to fix up her old room for them to stay which Joy says would be amazing. Kate calls it her pleasure as she misses having her around. Joy says she might be the only one. Joy states that she’s just trying to do what’s right for her daughter but the whole town is treating her like a pariah. Kate calls her a survivor like her and they do what they have to do to protect their children. Kate adds if people don’t get that, they don’t know their struggles or the lives they’ve lived.
Chanel encourages Johnny about getting out of the hospital tomorrow. Johnny wants to try to talk his way in to getting out today but Chanel says not against doctors orders. Chanel then gets an alert on her phone that her biopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, so Johnny holds her in his arms.
