Gabi meets Theo at the Brady Pub and says she’s surprised they aren’t meeting at DiMera, jokingly asking if they are painting Theo’s office. Theo reveals it’s no longer his office because he’s leaving DiMera.
Stephanie goes to see Philip at Titan and says she came about the advance for her next book. Stephanie reveals she already missed the deadline, so she can’t accept a check for work she hasn’t done and won’t ever do.
Marlena is in her office at the hospital, signing a card for Rachel, when she gets a call from Leo, who says he needs an appointment as it’s a matter of life and love. Marlena says if he comes right now, she can see him straight away so Leo says he’ll be right there.
Alex runs in to Chanel with Trey outside the Brady Pub. Chanel mentions that she’s been meaning to check in and asks how Stephanie is doing. Alex says she’s better, back home, and back to work. Chanel says that’s great because she was worried after visiting her in the hospital. Chanel mentions that Stephanie was very open with her, so she encouraged her to be open with Alex too. Chanel asks if Stephanie talked to Alex, but Alex says she hasn’t been open with him lately at all. Alex asks Chanel to please tell him what she said to her.
In the town square, Rafe tells Javi that it’s great to see him and he missed him. Rafe asks what brings him back to Salem. Javi explains that his leave of absence at the fire department was almost up, so they called to see if he would come back to cover a maternity leave. Rafe asks if it’s temporary but Javi reveals he agreed to go full time and declares he’s back for good. Javi hopes that his room is still vacant. Rafe confirms it is, but questions why he didn’t let them know he was coming back. Javi responds that he was afraid they would tell him not to. Rafe questions why they would do that when they’ve really missed him. Javi explains that he thought he and Gabi would want to keep him away from Leo. Rafe says they don’t want him to get hurt again, then informs Javi that Leo is right behind him. Javi doesn’t want Leo to see him. Rafe assures that the town will be big enough for both of them. Javi remarks that it better be.
Chanel tells Alex that what Stephanie told her was in confidence and she just thought she had told him. Alex responds that he’s just trying to help her and he can’t do that if he doesn’t know what the hell is going on. Alex promises not to tell Stephanie that they talked and states that he’s truly worried about her. Chanel then tells Alex that Stephanie told her that she’s feeling down about herself, like she can’t trust her own decisions, and she blames herself for everything that happened. Chanel mentions Stephanie saying she was a wreck. Chanel questions Alex having no idea she was feeling that way. Alex says he didn’t because she’s determined to be strong in front of him and is acting like she can handle it all on her own. Alex doesn’t understand why Stephanie won’t let him in.
Philip tells Stephanie that Titan’s finances are not to worry about for now as Xander was able to work some magic and make the loan payment, which has bought them a little time. Stephanie repeats that there won’t be another proposal or another book because she’s not going to write again. Stephanie tells Philip that she needs him to release her from her contract.
Leo rushes to Marlena’s office. Marlena notes the last time she saw him, he was recovering from a concussion and asks if that may have caused this. Leo responds that it’s not his head, it’s his heart.
Gabi questions Theo leaving DiMera when they were just discussing a partnership. Gabi asks if something happened at work. Theo says it’s nothing like that and he’d rather not talk about it. Gabi says she won’t pressure him to explain, but since he knows her deepest, darkest secret, she’s sure he knows he can trust her and she’s there for him if he does want to talk about it.
Chanel assures Alex that Stephanie will open up to him about how she’s feeling in her own time and just doesn’t want to worry him. Alex thanks her for always being so supportive and adds that he’s sorry about the whole Titan coming after DiMera and Johnny with the lawsuit as they were blindsided by the entire thing. Alex asks if the rumors are true that Johnny is going to be the new DiMera CEO for good. Chanel confirms it’s a done deal. Alex asks how she feels about that. Chanel admits not so great.
Gabi hopes Theo knows that whatever he tells her stays between them. Theo says he knows but repeats that he’d rather not talk about it. Theo adds that he turned in his full proposal to Johnny and asked him to honor it, so if she has any questions, she can reach out to him but he doubts she will considering her past experience with DiMera and now her current connection with one of Titan’s CEOs, he thinks it’s more likely she will partner with Philip’s company. Gabi feels he is underestimating her desire to get Gabi Chic the best deal whether that’s Titan or DiMera and assures she’s not just automatically picking Titan because her and Philip are involved, adding that they are also moving in together which surprises Theo.
Javi asks Rafe about Leo being back from Alamainia. Rafe informs him that Andrew brought him back to be treated for a concussion after an assassin tried to take out he and Dimitri. Rafe apologizes for not telling Javi about Leo and Dimitri going to Alamainia and explains he was trying not to hurt him, then realized it probably hurt more to find out from Leo. Javi says it’s okay and that what really hurt him was being left hanging on the question of if Leo loved him and only him, only to find out that Leo knew that answer all along. Rafe says maybe not.
Leo tells Marlena about how he was in bed with Dimitri but he pulled away and said he couldn’t do it because suddenly his emotions took over and he had an answer to the question that had been haunting him for months of if he wanted to be with Dimitri or Javi. Leo declares that he chose Javi as it’s always been Javi but he had suppressed those feelings because he felt he didn’t deserve a happy ending, but now he’s been deleted from Javi’s life. Leo says all these months of trying to make a decision has cost him the love of his life. Leo wishes he behaved like his old self, because then he would’ve jumped in bed with Dimitri right away and gotten an answer then on his wedding night, so he and Javi would still be married.
Philip questions Stephanie giving up writing and says he won’t ask her why as it’s not his business, but Kate won’t take this news well. Stephanie says she’s sorry and doesn’t want to cause any problems. Philip understands she has to take care of herself most importantly. Philip adds that he’ll take care of Kate and will see to it that she gets released from her contract. Stephanie thanks him. Philip tells her that he’s sorry for what she’s been through and is still going through. Philip is sure the thought of telling someone’s love story would be an upsetting thing to deal with right now. Stephanie thinks back to telling Alex that same thing and then guesses that Philip already knew she was coming to do this because Alex told him. Philip confirms that he and Alex talked. Stephanie tells him not to deny it because he just said exactly what she told Alex and asks if Alex came to see him to tell him that she was giving up her writing career. Philip admits that he did and reveals he had already spoke to legal. Philip apologizes and says they just wanted to make it easier on her. Stephanie complains that Alex went behind her back because he doesn’t think she can handle any of this on her own. Stephanie calls that insulting as hell and not true, arguing that she’s not some helpless victim. Philip agrees and hates that he was complicit in making her feel shortchanged in any way. Stephanie says it’s not his fault as he was just doing what Alex asked him to. Stephanie thanks Philip for being understanding and offering to deal with Kate. Stephanie declares that she now has to go deal with Alex.
Chanel tells Alex about how she and Johnny decided to stop fighting the inevitable and let EJ back in to their lives, but on their terms. Alex says you can never be too careful with EJ but understands EJ not giving up on his family and wanting to be involved in Trey’s life. Chanel jokes that Alex and Stephanie can borrow him whenever they want to practice for having a baby. Alex suggests they will be down to babysit. Chanel says he better mean that because she might take him on it as they pinky promise.
Theo questions Gabi moving in with Philip as he didn’t realize they were already at that stage. Gabi says things have been going really well for them so it just felt like the next logical step. Theo asks if that step has affected whether she will tell Philip or not about her secret. Gabi says absolutely not as Philip can never know what she did. Theo asks what if it keeps eating away at her. Gabi says she won’t let it. Gabi thinks they need an excuse to have fun, so she asks Theo if he and Jada are free. Theo confirms they are and were just talking about what to do tonight. Gabi thinks that’s a sign for their overdue trivia night they have been talking about. Theo says it sounds like a plan.
Javi questions Rafe thinking Leo didn’t have the answers and why he would say that. Rafe doesn’t think Leo choosing between Javi and Dimitri was easy and that Leo has been kind of depressed lately. Javi asks if Dimitri came back to Salem with Leo. Rafe explains that they didn’t come back together because the authorities tried to detain Dimitri but he’s here now. Javi asks about the DiMera kidnapping charges. Rafe informs him that Dimitri managed to clear his name. Javi remarks that it seems things are going smoothly for them and declares that Leo being able to move on means he’s free to do the same.
Leo tells Marlena that he kept Javi in limbo for so long and lied about being in Alamainia with Dimitri while now Javi is gone. Leo guesses it’s for the best because he’d just end up hurting Javi again. Marlena encourages not to be negative. Leo says it’s what Dimitri told him before he left and he’s absolutely right.
Chanel enters the Pub with Trey. Gabi greets her with a hug and comments on Trey getting so big. Chanel says Trey is dying to see his favorite uncle Theo. Gabi decides she’ll leave them to it and tells Theo that she will see him tonight as she exits. Chanel sits and asks Theo about Johnny taking over as CEO at DiMera. Chanel asks for the real reason that Theo is leaving.
Marlena asks Leo what exactly Dimitri said to him before leaving. Leo responds that he said he was damaged goods, he’d never find happiness now, that he blew his last chance, and that this was the biggest mistake of his life. Leo questions what he ever saw in Dimitri besides being the whole package and calls himself a shallow, horrible person. Marlena says there was a time when he and Dimitri were cut from the same cloth because he made him feel safer and more comfortable. Marlena reminds Leo that he had changed and is far more self-aware, more sensitive to other people’s feelings, and more understanding of his own feelings. Leo still doesn’t feel he’s worthy of Javi’s love. Marlena says he may think that way now but they can let Javi decide how he feels.
Rafe asks if Javi is really okay with all of this. Javi says he maybe even better than okay. Gabi arrives and hugs Javi, questioning if he’s really here. Javi confirms he’s here to stay which excites Gabi as they embrace.
Stephanie goes home and tells Alex that it went well as she returned the advance, Philip agreed to release her from her contract and even agreed to smooth things over with Kate. Alex says that’s great as he had a feeling things would work out. Stephanie responds that she thinks he had more than a feeling, because he orchestrated the whole thing.
Chanel knows Theo didn’t want to tell Johnny about why he’s leaving DiMera, but he sensed there was something wrong. Theo responds that Johnny has a lot going on. Chanel says they aren’t talking about Johnny right now, but about him. Chanel adds that she won’t push Theo either, but she can’t help but wonder if EJ had something to do with his very sudden decision.
Leo admits he almost called Javi before he called Marlena. Marlena is glad talking to her helped and suggests he could call Javi now. Leo says now is not a good time. Marlena knows it’s a big leap for him, but he’s going to have to take it sooner or later. Marlena adds that she’ll be right here with him, so whatever happens, she will be there when he hangs up the phone. Leo then pulls out his phone and looks at Javi’s number.
Gabi tells Javi that it’s wonderful news about his father and that Arianna will be so relieved. Gabi asks if Javi is coming back to stay with them and not Leo. Javi assures that’s the last thing he wants. Javi then gets a call from Leo but sends it to voicemail. Gabi says she’d love to stay but she has to go, so she’ll see them both at the house later. Gabi hugs Javi and says it’s so good to have him back. Gabi tells Javi and Rafe that she loves them as she walks away. Rafe reminds Javi that it’s only a matter of time before he crosses paths with Leo because he can’t avoid him forever. Javi complains that the thought of seeing him makes his skin crawl. Rafe suggests Javi confront Leo on his own terms. Javi agrees to do so when he’s ready.
Theo tells Chanel that he left DiMera because it’s the right thing for him. Chanel questions if he came to that decision all on his own. Chanel tells Theo that she’s here for him as he’s the brother she never had and she’s so grateful that their parents are together and he gets to be part of her life. Chanel knows he doesn’t want to talk to her about whatever is clearly bothering him, but she thinks it’s important that he at least talk to someone.
Stephanie argues to Alex that she’s a grown woman, who handled her business affairs long before he came in to her life. Stephanie complains that she made a fool of herself, rambling on to Philip when he already knew everything. Stephanie argues that Alex says he wants to protect her, but just ends up treating her like a child. Stephanie shouts that when she desperately needed Alex’s protection when it actually mattered. Alex guesses she was going to say that he failed her.
Leo tells Marlena that he knew it was a mistake to call Javi. Marlena points out that they don’t know why Javi is not picking up as he could be driving or having a conversation with his father, but when the time is right, they will talk. Leo asks what if the time is never right. Marlena says regardless of the outcome with Javi, Leo has become a man she’s never met before and true to himself, so he’ll never regret that decision no matter what happens with Javi. Leo agrees that he is being true to himself with his broken, but hopeful heart.
Chanel walks through the town square with Trey and runs in to Javi, surprised to see him back in town. Javi says he’s so glad he ran in to them and that it’s been so long since he’s seen Trey. Javi thanks Chanel for sending pictures and says he missed him so much while he was gone, so he was worried Trey wouldn’t recognize him. Chanel encourages that Javi and Leo were such a big part of Trey’s life that he could never forget them. Javi flashes back to he and Leo being with Trey. Javi then tells Chanel that Trey will always be in his heart.
Gabi goes to see Philip at Titan. Philip informs her that he planned a romantic dinner for them in their suite and a couples massage, but Gabi reveals she just told Theo that they would meet he and Jada at the Pub for Trivia Night. Philip is not enthused but Gabi reminds him that they had a lot of fun last time. Philip admits they did but he was hoping to have her all to himself tonight, then decides she gets what she wants. Gabi promises they will reschedule their romantic dinner for another night. Philip says he’ll settle for a romantic afternoon in the office as they kiss.
Theo calls the hospital to make an appointment with Marlena.
Alex questions if Stephanie meant to say he wasn’t there when she needed him. Stephanie apologizes and says it came out wrong. Stephanie insists that Alex is not to blame for what happened with Owen, but she gets so frustrated when everyone treats her like she’s made of glass. Alex argues that he’s trying to take care of her but he’s frustrated by talking to other people who agree that she should open up to him. Stephanie questions who he has been talking to. Alex says just people who care about her. Stephanie asks if he’s going around Salem airing her dirty laundry. Alex shouts that all he’s told people is that she won’t even talk to him anymore and it’s frustrating. Alex complains that she needs to let him in. Stephanie tells him that he has no idea what she needs and neither does anyone else. Stephanie decides that right now she needs some air as she storms out of the apartment.
