Interview with director Freddy Macdonald and actor Calum Worthy of the film “Sew Torn” by Suzanne 4/30/25
Talking to these two was a lot of fun. Freddy is an amazing young guy directing the film he co-created and co-wrote with his dad. They made a short film first. It’s quite exciting to meet such a young talent who created this fantastic film, and I look forward to what else he’ll bring in the future. Don’t miss this movie, which premieres May 9th in theaters. Calum plays a small but important role in the film, so it was great to speak with him, too.

SYNOPSIS
Barbara Duggen, âThe Mobile Seamstressâ, is struggling to keep her fabric shop alive. After a botched sewing appointment sets her on a quest to replace her clientâs lost button, she unexpectedly stumbles upon a drug deal gone bad. Faced with two downed motorcyclists, guns, and a briefcase – Barbara is completely torn. She is forced to pick between three choices: commit the perfect crime, call the police, or drive away.
The narrative presents the repercussions of all three decisions, and the deadly confrontations that result from each as she gets entangled with the caseâs owner. Using thread to free herself, Barbara stops at nothing to save her store.

A film about the choices we make is my story to tell. Iâve always been drawn to narratives that explore decision making, and Sew Torn is the culmination of this interest; a layered feature that depicts how actions define your path, ultimately shaping you – for better or worse.
Set in and around a quaint Swiss town, Sew Torn is a thriller / dark comedy that takes place over the same afternoon, three separate times. Itâs a film about loneliness and home. About grief and redemption. About revenge and love.
With twists and turns driven by an undercurrent of humor, the plot is all but impossible to predict. And with a dexterous seamstress protagonist, liberation from a tangled past is finally achieved… …with thread.

EVE CONNOLLY | BARBARA
Eve plays the lead role in the indie feature Sew Torn. It premiered at SXSW to rave reviews, with Eve being described in the reviews as âundoubtedly a starâ, a âcaptivating leading ladyâ and with âthe gravitas of a younger Claire Danes!â
Itâs releasing internationally this year.
She also plays one of the leads in Netflix/Universalâs The River Wild, starring opposite Adam Brody and Leighton Meester.
Her feature credits include Meet Me By The Sea opposite Charlotte Hope, Irish feature film The Other Lamb which premiered at TIFF, a series regular role in AMC/Netflixâs Into The Badlands and a great role in Vikings.
CALUM WORTHY | JOSHUA
Calum Worthy is an actor/writer (Huluâs Golden Globe winner The Act, Disneyâs Austin & Ally, Netflixâs Peabody winner American Vandal, Huluâs Reboot). Beyond his work in entertainment, he is a passionate advocate for climate education and gender equity, with a particular focus on advancing womenâs economic empowerment in developing countries. He will next be seen in Sew Torn and Cliff Dorfmanâs 86.
He has collaborated closely with Vice President Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project, and for the past five years has partnered with the ONE Campaign to drive international investment to girls’ education and women-led economic initiatives in East Africa. His advocacy has also extended to working alongside the Gates Foundation to promote global gender equity.

Freddy Macdonald is a Student Academy Award winner, and the youngest Directing Fellow ever accepted
to the AFI Conservatory. His feature film debut, Sew Torn, will premiere at SXSW 2024. Freddyâs AFI admission film, the Sew Torn proof of concept short, was acquired by Searchlight Pictures. It received an Oscar-qualifying theatrical release nationwide alongside Ready Or Not. Freddy’s AFI thesis film, Shedding Angels, won a Student Academy Award and was shortlisted for a student BAFTA. Freddy also directed 4 music videos for 3x Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito (including his performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), and 3 viral documentaries following hardware hacker Joe Grand. Freddy is represented by UTA.

Fred Macdonald is a writer, producer, and founder of several entertainment and media companies. Over the years his companies have partnered with The Walt Disney Company, DreamWorks Animation, Lionsgate / Summit Entertainment, and Viacom. Macdonald was CEO and Chairman of Olive Jar Studios, a film production company with studios in Los Angeles and Boston. While helming the company, Macdonald creative directed theme park media (The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios), and
television commercials (Levi Strauss & Co., Samsung Electronics, and a Coca-Cola CLIO Gold winner that Macdonald creative directed with Spike Jonze).
