Diane: Kyle, hey.
Kyle: Hey, mom. Sorry, I got to go. I’ll see you later.
Diane: Where are you off to in such a hurry?
Kyle: Uh, newman media.
Diane: Did you forget your suits at the dry cleaners?
Kyle: Well, I, uh… I have to clear out my office.
Diane: Why? Did you quit your job?
Kyle: No, mom, I didn’t quit. Nikki terminated my contract.
Diane: What? Why would she do that?
Kyle: Feel free to call and ask her.
Diane: Well, I know you were doing great work at newman. So, if– if this is about the breakup with summer, then why did nikki wait so long?
Kyle: Can we do this later or not at all?
Diane: It’s that audra charles, isn’t it? Your fling with her cost you your job.
Tucker: Audra charles. Just who I was looking for.
Audra: Hi.
Tucker: Hi. You got a minute?
Audra: Actually, I can give you five. What’s up?
Tucker: I’ve been thinking about our last conversation.
[ Audra chuckles ]
Audra: I can’t believe I actually have to say this but, um, uh, just to clarify, that was a spontaneous, energetic, enjoyable, um, hour between two old friends, okay? It wasn’t an invitation to… revisit anything and– and I’m sorry if I gave you that impression.
Tucker: I don’t believe that for a second. Anyway, it’s not what I was referring to.
Audra: Then what, tucker?
Tucker: Just been thinking about you… on a much more karmic level.
Audra: Oh. I’m almost intrigued.
Tucker: No, I think you’re more than that.
Phyllis: Hey, jack. Hi. Pretty day today. Right? How are you doing? Uh, nothing? Really?
Jack: I have no interest in making small talk with you or any talk really.
Phyllis: Okay. All right. So, this is how it’s going to be? We can’t get past this?
Jack: No, this is how it’s going to be. We are miles past any hope of reconciliation, phyllis. I feel no need to be polite or civil. I am not at all interested in soothing your guilt or bolstering your pretense of setting things right. We had one thing left between us and that was that my son was married to your daughter and you somehow managed to obliterate that as well, leaving us nothing.
Billy: Thought I might run into you here.
Adam: It’s as if you’re psychic. What do you want?
Billy: May I join you?
Adam: No.
Billy: Heard you lost your job again.
Adam: Mm-hmm. And?
Billy: Well, I sympathize. I mean, needless to say, I know how that goes.
Adam: Mm-hmm. Well, your compassion means the world to me, billy, it really does, but what do you want?
Billy: Help. Maybe.
Adam: Okay. [ Laughs ] Now, that I can believe.
Billy: Mm.
Adam: Go ahead.
Billy: Wanted to touch base with you. You, uh, claimed to have information, damaging information on tucker mccall.
Adam: Ooh. I did. And I do.
Billy: You also claim that you’d be willing to share that information for the right price.
Adam: Yeah, that’s also true.
Billy: Well, now that you’ve lost your job for, like, the 18th time, I’m wondering if you have an idea of what that price might be?
Adam: Hm.
[ Adam sighs ] Listen, your deodorant just has to work.
Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…
Phyllis: Okay, jack, I– I get it. You have nothing to say to me. You know, I– I do have something to say to you, however, um, if you give me just one minute.
Jack: Fine. One minute.
Phyllis: Okay. [ Laughs ] Uh, I understand what you’re saying, okay? And, uh, I know– I know I screwed up. More than screwed up. Um, but I’m trying really hard to change, you know. I– I’m– oh, you don’t even know. I mean, I’m trying really, really hard.
Jack: Seems to me that’s the least you can do.
Phyllis: Of course it is. It’s the least I could do. Um…
Jack: Look, I don’t wish you ill. For summer and daniel’s sake, I hope you’re able to turn things around, but frankly, I don’t see any signs of all this trying you’re talking about.
Phyllis: Okay, well, it’s not going to happen overnight. You know, there’s a lot to do, but I’m going to do it. I’m going to make it happen. You’ll see.
Jack: Yeah, I guess we will see. Either way, you should know it doesn’t change anything for me. I said goodbye to you at your memorial service. As far as I’m concerned, you’re still dead.
Phyllis: Hey.
Daniel: Hey.
Phyllis: Did you hear any of that?
Daniel: Oh, that was pretty rough.
Phyllis: Yeah, it was.
Daniel: Yeah. You know, I kind of wish that I could march right up to him and say, “how dare you speak to my mother like that?” But, um– but you kind of had it coming from him. And let’s be honest, you and I both know that a lot of other people in this town feel the same way.
Phyllis: Okay. I know a lot of people feel the same way and I know I earned that. I get it.
Daniel: It’s not going to be easy going back to the way things work. Are you ready for that?
Phyllis: I don’t know. I don’t know if I am. I keep on thinking I’m– I’m tough, I can handle it, but it hurts my feelings.
Daniel: You know what you need? You need something positive, something positive and productive to focus on. What’s going on with that job with nick and sharon? Is it– is that happening or what?
Phyllis: There was some shakeup at newman and I’m collateral damage.
Daniel: Well, you just can’t catch a break, can you? Wonder why that is.
Kyle: Mom–
Diane: Kyle, have a seat.
Kyle: Um, I–
Diane: Sit.
[ Kyle sighs ]
Kyle: I really don’t want to get into this right now. It doesn’t matter why i no longer work at newman media. It is done. It is over, end of story.
Diane: All right, I won’t push and whatever the reason, I– I am sorry that it didn’t work out. I know you were excited about it. So, what now?
Kyle: I don’t know. I haven’t figured it out. It’s not like I need to get back to work right this second. So, maybe I’ll kick back, enjoy a life of leisure. Heck, come to think of it, harrison thought the beach and the palm trees were pretty cool.
Diane: Oh, what? So, you’re just going to take your son and move to some beach and start a new life?
Kyle: Well, mom, it doesn’t sound too bad.
Diane: Kyle, that would just be another attempt at hiding from your pain. Look, I know you. You’re not a work on your tan, go with the flow kind of guy. You need direction, purpose, a– a career with a future.
Kyle: Yeah, which I’ve had several times and at some point, I will have one again when the right opportunity comes along, but for now, it doesn’t matter.
Diane: Well, has it occurred to you that the right opportunity might be coming back to jabot?
Kyle: Hardly.
Diane: Just think about it. I would love it. Your father would love it.
Kyle: Yeah, I’m sure you would. And I know dad would love sticking me in some low-level, teach-me-a-lesson position while telling himself he’s being a great father for helping me grow.
Diane: That’s really unfair.
Kyle: I told dad I would consider coming back to jabot on one condition.
Diane: I know.
Kyle: That I replace billy as co-ceo. Otherwise, no thanks.
Diane: Well, then if I were you, I wouldn’t start packing for the tropics just yet.
Adam: Oh, yes, I should have known that I would be hearing from you about the intel I have on tucker. I heard that he’s back from, uh, paris without ashley. What’s that about?
Billy: Not quite sure yet. Word on the street is things between them disintegrated, both personally and professionally.
Adam: Hm. That’s pretty quick, even for tucker’s standards. So, if it’s true, it sounds like a really pissed off megalomaniac, which means he’s probably back for revenge.
Billy: Yeah, that’s the theory.
Adam: Mm-hmm. Well, there’s no wonder you need something to stop him in his tracks then. Well, billy, I guess I would ask you the same question that I asked you last time we talked about this. What are you proposing to offer me in return?
Billy: Well, I guess I would give you the same answer until or unless I have an idea of what this information you claim to have on tucker is or how damaging it is to him. I can’t possibly know what it’s worth.
Tucker: Regarding your comment about possibly jumping ship from newman media to joining me at jabot once I take it away from jack and billy.
Audra: I– I– I don’t recall saying anything about jumping ship.
Tucker: Yeah, you did.
Audra: I do recall talking about keeping my options open.
Tucker: Yeah.
Audra: You know, with all the chaos that’s going on at newman these days.
Tucker: Anyway, how confident are you in your future there?
Audra: Well, nikki doesn’t fill me with much of it.
Tucker: Yeah. Your boss thinks you’re a manipulative opportunist.
Audra: A smart, talented manipulative opportunist, thank you very much. And yet, you know, uh, nikki may decide any minute that… I’m of no further use to her or her company, but until then I have no reason to walk away. I like my job so far.
Tucker: Okay. Your life, your loss.
Audra: On the other hand…
Tucker: Ah, the other hand.
Audra: If something were to happen and if this little plan of yours to take over jabot works out… what exactly do you see me doing? I’m jonathan lawson
Tucker: I haven’t come up with any specific job titles yet, but you can be assured it would be something high powered, prestigious.
Audra: Working under you, I assume.
Tucker: No. Not really interested in running jabot. Maybe as an advisor or something, but… and this whole takeover is really about nothing but yanking it away from jack abbott.
Audra: A purely vindictive move.
Tucker: 100%. I want to punish the abbotts. I want to just… want to hit them where it hurts. As far as I’m concerned, they shattered any chance I had with ashley, any future.
Audra: Look, as always, I give you an a plus for creativity, but your ability to pull this off? I mean, not so much. Don’t you think they suspect that you’re coming and are gearing up for it?
Tucker: They absolutely do. They’ve essentially told me so.
Audra: And that doesn’t worry you?
Tucker: I have a secret weapon.
Audra: What’s that?
Tucker: Not a what, a who. Billy abbott.
Adam: To tell you the truth, billy, I’m, um– I’m having second thoughts about getting into this or any kind of questionable activity with you.
Billy: Because of your uncompromising moral or your professional ethics?
Adam: No, because I have turned a major personal corner. Okay? I’m going modest for a change and I’m going to start at newman from the bottom and I’m going to work my way up because I’m determined to prove to my father and my family that I’m willing to, um, what’s that saying? Work the soil before you harvest the fruit.
[ Billy laughs ]
Billy: That’s good, adam. That’s really good. [ Laughs ] Uh, don’t tell me victor actually bought that. Come on. From one chronic screw-up to another, that’s never going to happen.
Adam: Yeah? Well, you never know.
Billy: Yeah, no, I do know. You’re adam newman, okay? No matter how hard you try to change, you’re still going to be adam newman. So, why don’t you quit the posturing? Tell me what your price is and we can move on.
Phyllis: No, daniel, I can’t catch a break, that’s for sure. And I’m tired of this. The people in this town have done horrific things. I’m tired of defending myself to people who don’t believe in me and don’t believe that I can get better and change. I mean, what the hell do I have to do?
Daniel: I think, you know, part of the problem is people have all heard this from you before. Some of them have been hearing it for decades. And let’s be honest, you faking your own death, that kind of ruined your credibility. Now, believing in you is a little–
Phyllis: Okay. Okay. Well, if I had to do it over again, it wouldn’t go that way. If I could take it back, I would, but I can’T.
Daniel: Well, then do something about it. Prove to everyone you mean business this time.
Phyllis: Well, that’s really difficult when I keep on losing one job after the other. You know what I mean? And then, the insurance company is hounding me to pay back the money that jeremy stark stole when I died.
Daniel: You have no idea where he hid it or the savings he stole from you?
Phyllis: No, I have no idea. Trust me. I’ve been trying to find it with no luck. And then, you know what? Sometimes, I’ll leave my room and I’ll walk around town and people stare at me like the town pariah. I’m just waiting for the next verbal gut punch, you know what I mean? Maybe jeremy stark was right.
Daniel: Oh, god.
Phyllis: No, maybe I should have just left town and started anew, you know? Where nobody knows me.
Daniel: Yeah. That’s a great idea, mom. What, are you going to leave me and summer again? You going to die again this time or just disappear?
Phyllis: Well, I don’t know. Maybe you’d be better off.
Daniel: No, we wouldn’t– no, we wouldn’T. And neither would you. You know that.
Phyllis: Really? I mean, maybe it’d be better–
Daniel: Okay, no, no, no, no. We’re not going to sit here. We’re not going to have a little pity party. You’re staying here, you’re not going anywhere. For one, you’ve already put me and summer through that. We’re not dealing with it again. And two… [ Sighs ] …How can you bail out when you’ve got this brand new job that you’re about to start?
Phyllis: What are you talking about?
Daniel: Come work with me at omegasphere. Inez, let me ask you,
Phyllis: Daniel. Daniel. Are you offering me a job?
Daniel: I am and it’s nothing top level, but it’s something worthwhile and stimulating and it’ll be an honest paycheck. And look, it’ll give you something other to focus on than your problems.
Phyllis: You don’t owe me favors, daniel.
Daniel: Oh, [Indistinct]. Trust me. I’m not doing you any favors. You are more than talented enough to be great at what I found for you to do.
Phyllis: Oh. I mean, I have many talents.
Daniel: You do. Yes.
Phyllis: Yeah.
Daniel: I am aware. I am aware. I’m going to be watching you like a hawk. You’re not going to get any preferential treatment because you’re my mother. You need to be reliable. You need to work long hard hours and I don’t want to hear any excuses or any complaining or any whining. Just– just prove to me and everyone else that, you know, you can walk this walk. And then, once you start drawing a salary, I figure you can work out a payment plan with the insurance company. So, that’s my pitch. What do you say?
Phyllis: I’m gonna work for this. I’m gonna raise the money on–
[ Tucker laughing ] I’m gonna do this legitimately.
Tucker: Legitimately. That’s good. That should only take you, what, 10 years?
Phyllis: I– I say I appreciate you so much. Thank you so much for this opportunity. You don’t even know how much it means to me. I– I’m gonna have to think about it.
Daniel: Oh. Of course. Yeah. No, think about it. Right.
[ Daniel scoffs ] Maybe, you should also think about when you’re gonna stop getting in your own way.
Kyle: So, there’s a chance billy may be leaving jabot?
Diane: You know, I really shouldn’t have said anything.
Jack: Hey! Casual dress day at newman media?
Kyle: You want to tell him or should I?
Diane: No, it’s your news. Not mine.
Jack: Wait, tell me what? What’s going on?
Kyle: I no longer work at newman media and nikki let me go.
Jack: Kyle, I’m sorry to hear that. What happened?
Diane: Uh, I already asked him and he doesn’t want to talk about it.
Kyle: Can we just leave it at “it didn’t work out”?
Jack: Okay.
Kyle: Okay, it’s over, and I’m fine, and I just need to go back to clear out my office.
Jack: You know what? If you’re okay, I’m okay. I’m just a little surprised nikki didn’t–
Kyle: Dad.
Jack: You’re right, let’s just stop, and no need to go over any of the details if you’re not comfortable talking about it. I– I would like to ask one more question, and that’ll be it, just one.
[ Kyle sighs ]
Kyle: Sure. Go ahead.
Jack: Does this mean you’re ready to come back to the family business where you belong?
Kyle: That depends.
Jack: On?
Kyle: Are you ready to reinstate me as co-ceo or are you going to keep ignoring billy’s talent for screwing up every time he turns around.
Adam: Name my price, huh? Billy, I have to think about it.
Billy: Let me remind you that you’re the one that brought this to me a few weeks ago, okay? You– you told me to let you know if I wanted to work something out. Now, I’m sitting here trying to work something out with you and you’re being coy.
Adam: Listen, why don’t you just calm down, okay? Things have changed since the last time we talked about this. I’m in a different place. I have a different mindset.
Billy: I’m not buying any of that. Nothing you say about that matter. You’ve changed, my ass. If you do have any information on tucker, if that exists… it’s not worth the headache you’re giving me.
Tucker: Yo, yo, yo. You’re leaving, I thought we were meeting, you texted me.
Billy: Must have been somebody else.
Tucker: Hm. Sometimes, the lows of bipolar depression
Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. Kayaking is my thing.
Jack: I am sorry things didn’t work out for you at newman media, kyle. I– I mean that, but I am selfishly thrilled at the idea that you might be coming back to jabot.
Kyle: So, it is a possibility. I could replace billy.
Jack: Well, not immediately. Things haven’t reached that conclusion yet.
Kyle: Then, we shouldn’t be having this conversation, should we? So, if you excuse me, I have an office to clear out.
Diane: Bye.
Kyle: Bye.
Jack: Well, we have ourselves one stubborn son.
Diane: Hm, I wonder where he gets it from.
Jack: He also seems to have lost his sense of patience.
Diane: Well, I might have given him reason to hope.
Jack: What do you mean?
Diane: You said earlier that you’re ready to consider letting billy go. What’s there left to think about? If billy leaves, kyle comes back, we get to work with our son again, so what is there really left to consider?
Audra: Um, hello, billy.
Billy: Oh, let’s skip all that and go straight to the good stuff, huh?
[ Audra chuckles ] What’s tucker up to?
Audra: I have no idea.
Billy: I don’t believe you.
Audra: Um, why would tucker loop me into his business?
Billy: Because you guys have worked very closely together for a very long time and you remained friends, let’s say, and I have no doubt that he still confides in you, and now, that his relationship with ashley’s blowing up, he’s back in genoa city, he’s got an agenda, and I need to know what that is.
Audra: You know, you’re probably right. I wouldn’t put it past him, but it has nothing to do with me.
Billy: It might. If you don’t be careful.
Audra: [ Chuckles ] Okay, I– I don’t see how.
Billy: Okay, well, I’m gonna give you a little piece of advice just so I can say that I did so. [ Sighs ] If I am correct and this conflict with tucker does boil over, you should do everything you can to protect yourself. Stay on the right side of this.
Audra: Well, billy, I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t always stay on the right side of everything, but thank you so much for caring.
Tucker: Adam.
Adam: Oh, welcome home. I, uh, haven’t had a chance to chat with you since you got back from paris. How was, uh, the honeymoon?
Tucker: Have you ever been told that you overplay your sarcasm? I always think that subtlety is the better choice.
Adam: Well, thank you for the coaching. Have a great day.
Tucker: Where are you going? Please, please, please.
Adam: Is– is there something you wanted?
Tucker: Always. Did I sense some tension just now, between you and billy?
Adam: [ Laughs ] It’s just, uh, par for the course. The permanent condition. We will, uh, never be able to peacefully coexist.
Tucker: Hm, somehow, it seemed more specific than that.
Adam: Well, you know billy. Uh, subtlety is not really his forte. What is it to you, though? If you don’t mind me asking. Let me guess, you’re back. Ashley’s not. He did mention there was a disintegration with your marriage, so let me guess. You’re pissed off. And now, you’re planning to go after them, aren’t you? boring. With over 40 delicious flavors, cirkul starts a party for your taste buds. No sugar, no calories, and no artificial flavors. Cirkul. It’s your water, your way. Now with even more flavors. Available at walmart or drinkcirkul.Com. You know that feeling of having to rewash dishes
Kyle: That took a while. You and nikki must had a lot to talk about.
Audra: She knows, kyle.
Kyle: What? About us? How is that possible? We’ve been so careful.
Audra: Well, not careful enough for nikki to trust us. More specifically, to trust you. When she saw us earlier together, she put two and two together, and figured out that we’ve been… [ Clears throat ] …Seeing each other in spite of her telling us not to. Yeah, and– and she believes that as long as we keep working together, this attraction and desire won’t go away. At least, not on your part.
Kyle: Okay, how could she tell this, exactly?
Audra: She said she could see it in your eyes.
Kyle: [ Scoffs ] Come on. Really?
Audra: I’m just telling you what she told me.
Kyle: Well, I’m not gonna deny, I’m attracted to you and I have the desire to kiss you every time I’m around–
Audra: Kyle, just– no. Okay? Just–
Kyle: Why are you acting this way?
Audra: Because we can’t keep doing this, just– haven’t you been listening?
Kyle: Okay, I get it. I’ll keep my business face on when we’re at the office and we’ll be more careful when we’re in public.
Audra: It’s too late for that.
Kyle: What do you mean, “it’s too late”? I’ll calm nikki down.
Audra: She told me to fire you, kyle.
Kyle: What?
Audra: Look, I– I tried to change her mind, um, I– I fought for you, okay? But her mind was already made up.
Kyle: Because of a look in my eye? Are you kidding me?
Audra: It doesn’t matter why, okay? I just– it’s over… on all counts, okay? I’m– I’m sorry.
Kyle: Excuse me.
Audra: Well, uh, hello.
Kyle: I was at newman picking up my stuff and I ran to your assistant. She said you were having lunch at the gcac alone, so you could catch up on emails.
Audra: Yeah, she’s right. Um, so how are you doing?
Kyle: About how you’d expect. I’m okay. No, you know what? Um, make that better than okay. I’m good. Onward and upward and all of that, um… can I sit down or would that jeopardize your job?
Audra: By all means, um, apparently, we– we should talk. So, tell me, do you blame me for what happened?
Tucker: You and i are dear friends, are we not? I see you, look at you. I see your plight.
[ Laughs ] Yes, and I’m offering my assistance. You know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna tack on 10% just for you trouble. That’s $2.2 million.
Phyllis: I know how much it is. No. Who am I kidding? I have no choice. I have to do this. I have to do this. [ Sighs ] But after this, never again. Never again. I swear, never again. I swear to god, after this, I’m done.
Adam: Look, I have no stones to throw when it comes to failed relationships, but I have to say, I mean, that was the shortest honeymoon in the history of honeymoons. I mean, what happened? I know you had a lot riding on this marriage with ashley, personally and professionally. So, where– where do you go from here?
Tucker: Adam, why would i share anything about my personal life with a man who blackmailed me?
Adam: Look, I– technically, I blackmailed audra. I mean, granted, what I dug up was damaging to both of you, but just so you know, I– I don’t have any animosity towards you, I just– I don’t trust you.
Tucker: Look at that. In that case, we have something in common. And if you’re worried about me for some reason, don’t be. I don’t have any animosity towards you either, I just couldn’t care less about you or your family, or newman enterprises for that matter. I gotta go. Uh, I’m sure you’ve enjoyed our time as much as I have.
Adam: I sure have.
Tucker: See? Subtle.
[ Tucker laughs ]
Adam: See you.
Tucker: See you. My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.
Kyle: No, audra, I don’t blame you for firing me. That’s what nikki ordered you to do. What choice did you have?
Audra: None at all. And what’s with this sudden edge I’m hearing in your voice? Okay, I’ve heard you direct that at other people, but never at me, and frankly, I don’t appreciate it.
[ Kyle chuckles ]
Kyle: I’m surprised, that’s all.
Audra: At what?
Kyle: At how quickly you were able to turn off your feelings. We went from your hotel suite to distant acquaintances in the blink of an eye.
Audra: Hm, well, I mean, you talk like we had some sort of storybook romance.
Kyle: I thought it meant something.
Audra: Yes, it did. Two consenting adults who were attracted to each other. You know, we had fun. The sex was great. And now, we move on with our lives.
Kyle: I see.
Audra: Don’t look so wounded. Your pride might have taken a hit, but your heart, it’s just fine. Look, we both know the truth here. You’re not the love of my life and I’m not the love of yours. That would be summer.
Kyle: Okay, how many times do I have to say it? It is over between me and summer. There’s no hope of us finding our way back to each other.
Audra: Well, if that’s true, you know, which I doubt, I’m very sorry for you.
Kyle: Don’t be.
Audra: Look, kyle. Look, I know that this, okay, was just about you trying to forget how much summer means to you. But if you dig deep, and take a long, hard, honest look, I think you’ll discover that you miss her and you still love her much more than you’re willing to admit.
Phyllis: Hi, billy.
Billy: Hey.
Phyllis: Hey. Yeah.
Tucker: How are you doing? Hey, phyllis.
Tucker: Billy didn’t see you follow me up here?
Phyllis: Uh, oh, yeah, I made sure he saw me, ’cause I’m that stupid.
Tucker: Geez, what is it with all the sarcasm today?
Phyllis: Um, let’s just do this, please. I just want to do this. You know, I waited in the bar until billy left.
Tucker: Great. So, you’re ready to get me access to his financials?
Phyllis: Yeah, but first, you transfer a million into my account.
Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…
Adam: Well, the gang is all here. So, what’s the big mystery?
Victor: From now on, you will be nate’s assistant.
Mamie: I’m glad that we’ve had this time together, but truth be told, this reunion is not really the only reason why I’m in town.
Traci: Oh, no?
Mamie: There is a matter of some importance that’s brought me here.
Adam: I hate that I put you in an awkward position, but I would be lying if I said I’m sorry that I kissed you. I can’t stop thinking about it.
Danny: You look like you just lost your best friend.
