THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Oh, hey there, uh, former partner. Sean, what are you doing here? Well, my suspension’s up today. But I, uh, don’t know who I’m supposed to speak to about returning to work. I don’t know either. The acting mayor hasn’t appointed a new commissioner since he fired Rafe. Yeah. She fired

Rafe. Because of me.

Oh, the garbage. Lovely. It’s lovely. I’m going to need a serious shower. Cheetah, I thought you were… Whoa. Oh. You’re not Cheetah. No. I’m not. Nope. Nope.

That’s right, Cassandra, don’t let Charlemagne go after your man.

Mama, what are you doing here? Watching body and soul. Wanna join me? Cassandra’s about to throw Charlemagne in the pool. Again? Mama, what’s going on? And what are you doing sitting here in your robe in the middle of the day? And where’s Abe? He moved out.

Charlemagne, told you you were asking for trouble. Oh, hi! I thought you might be hungry, so I stopped at the Brady Pub and got some takeout. Oh, thank you, thank you. You know who I am, don’t you? Of course. You’re Cassandra. Charlemagne’s mortal enemy.

Harris, it’s so good to see you. Always good to see you. I just came by to see how you’re doing. Uh, I’m, I’m fine. And you’re adjusting to life at Bayview? Yeah, I mean, so far so good. Uh, I ran into an old acquaintance. Eve Donovan. Alright. How did that go? Uh, surprisingly well, actually. I actually had the chance to say I’m sorry for how I hurt her in the past, and she accepted my apology.

Well, that’s wonderful. A sign of progress that you’re beginning to interact with the other patients.

What the hell are you doing here?

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

Ava, you need to calm down. Don’t you tell me to calm down. I want to know what this son of a bitch is doing here. I’m sorry. Yeah, you should be sorry. You should be sorry because I thought I got rid of you a long time ago. And now you’re showing up. You’re showing up here.

You’re trying to drag me back into my old life. Sorry, but do I know you? You’re going to play dumb with me. Of course, you know me just as well as I know you.

A move down. That’s what I said. I stayed out late last night so that I could give you two time to be alone together. And then when I left for the bakery this morning, I just assumed you were still in bed. I was, but Abraham was long gone. Did you guys get in a fight? Nope, but clearly he was uncomfortable here.

Oh, Mama. Oh, and I guess he didn’t like it when I kissed him. Which I stupidly, impulsively did. You know, thinking, you know, would make him remember. But all it did was disgust him. Oh, well, that’s, that’s just because he, he thinks that he doesn’t know you, Mama. But that’s all gonna change. Just, as soon as he gets his memory back, he is going to be kissing you right back.

I know it. Oh. Mama, if Abe didn’t stay here, this is his home, so where did he stay? He had Steve Johnson come get him. He shacked up over there with him and Kayla. Um, no, no, I’m not Cassandra. I’m, I’m Kayla.

Of course. Cassandra’s right there. On body and soul. You’re Kayla Johnson, my, my doctor. That’s right. I, you know, you just remind me of her a little. That lady by the pool? Yeah. Yeah, I kind of get that all the time. Really? No. No. That was a bad joke. I’m sorry. Well, I’m sorry. I got the two of you mixed up. Oh, come on.

It’s no big deal. I mean, look at all you have to deal with all these new faces and names. I mean, it’s like we’re all just characters in a soap opera doing crazy things. You know?

Okay, I’m good. You can turn around now. Yeah. I’m really sorry about that. I, um, yeah, I didn’t expect you back so soon. Yeah, well, I decided to come home and take a shower after dealing with, you know, all the trash from the White Dove Motel. Uh huh, yeah. Yeah, that, that explains it. Mm hmm. Yeah, I’m, if you and Jada want to, like, use the place, I’m out doing community service, like, that’s totally fine.

Just, next time, try to, you know, give me a heads up, just a little bit. Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah, see that? That actually, that makes sense. Mm hmm. Yeah, well, Jada, she just left for work, and, uh, I didn’t have anywhere to be. I still can’t believe you got fired for dating my sister. Well, I… It was Jay’s boss. And we have a policy in the city that says, superiors cannot date subordinates.

It’s a stupid policy. Well, I don’t know about that, but, uh, I did it. And, uh, I guess I probably shouldn’t have. Well, from my understanding, um, Mayor Rawlings would have never found out in the first place if it hadn’t been for Sean Brady. Mm hmm. So that’s it? You’re not gonna say anything? About what? Um, maybe about it being my fault that Rafe was fired?

What’s there to say? I don’t know. I… Look, I guess I was just hoping that you’d say that you knew that it wasn’t… It wasn’t intentional. I, that, that I didn’t mean for Rawlings to hear what I said about you and Rafe. I would, I’d been drinking and I was shooting my mouth off. And then Rawlings overheard it.

But in the end I, I mean, I tried to backpedal. But if you remember, Rawlings asked me about it. And he basically left me no choice but to admit it. So your backpedaling was pretty much pointless. Okay, well, yeah, I can speak to him. I can speak to him, get him to reverse the decision.

Well, here’s your chance. Detective Hunter. Detective Brady.

You know, it’s very generous of you and your husband to let me stay here a while. But, I think, I think I’m imposing. Trust me, you couldn’t impose on us if you tried. All those weeks that we didn’t know if we’d ever see you again. Like my mother would always say, it’s kind of like, uh, a gift from God. You know, the way you said that, I knew her, didn’t I?

Yes. Your mother. You did. You knew our whole family. You were family. And even though you don’t remember us, you still are. I appreciate that. You know, going home with Paulina, as much as she wanted me to, I, I, I knew from the moment that I got there that I, I, I couldn’t stay. And that’s when I called your husband and asked him to come and get me.

So I could be here for you. Well, I appreciate your generosity. With the look on Paulina’s face, uh, I, I knew how much I had upset her.

Well, it’s not so bad that Abe is staying with Steve and Kayla, right? I mean, at least you know he’s safe. I suppose so. Anyway, I talked to Kayla this morning and she said that I just need to be patient and let Abe get used to me and everyone else in his own time. Well, that’s good advice. You know, I know it’s hard for you, taking the hands off approach.

Patience has never been my strong suit, has it? Me neither, Mama. Like mother, like daughter. Anyway, Kayla said that she’s gonna work with Abe and maybe help him see that I only want him to get better. He will. He will. And sooner or later, no matter what, he is going to come back to you. Mama, I know that he will.

Oh. Your optimism, baby, that it does lift my spirits. And I’m sorry that you had to stay away last night for nothing. Oh, well, it wasn’t exactly for nothing. I actually spent some time with

Talia. It’s not Sean’s fault that I got fired. Not his fault? No! If he would’ve never opened up his big mouth, Rawlings would’ve never found out about you and Jada. If I hadn’t been seeing Jada in the first place, there’d never have been anything for him to hear. But still! Aren’t cops supposed to close ranks?

Look out for one another? Not gossip about each other’s personal lives? Well, at least you told him off, right? Talia, I appreciate that you are on my side, but I’m the one who got myself into this mess. It doesn’t matter what Sean said. I gotta take the blame for this. I just came down to check how things are going, now that Commissioner Hernandez has been relieved of his post.

Mayor Rawlings, about that, um, I’d like to speak to you. And I need to talk to you. Oh. Oh. Okay. It’s come to my attention that it was the former commissioner who suspended you? Uh, yes, that is correct. Well, that’s something we have to remedy as soon as possible.

I can’t let this grievous error stand. And honestly… I’m surprised Rafe had the gall to go after you in the first place. I mean, it’s outrageous that he would put your job in jeopardy for blowing the whistle on him.

You showed up here. I’m going to find her, Doctor. Ma’am, whoever you, you think I am, you’re mistaking me for somebody else. Oh, you think that I could forget you? After all the trouble you’ve put me through over the years? I was trying, I was trying to make a new life for myself and thanks to you, I ended up back with my family.

I ended up back to my mob ties, back to being a person I never wanted to be. I’m sorry that happened, but we don’t know each other. My name is Harris Michaels. Harris Michaels, is that the best you could come up with? What? I didn’t come up with it, it’s my name. Don’t, don’t you lie to me. I know exactly who you are.

Okay. Who do you think I am?

Who do I think you are? You have to ask. You’re Charlie. Charlie? You’re my son. Charlie. Why? Why do you keep coming back? Why? I just think I’ve done everything I can to get rid of you. Just leave me. Let go of me. He won’t leave me alone. We’re only

Look, Rafe didn’t suspend Sean because he told you about a relationship. Are you sure about that? Because the timing would suggest otherwise. Detective Hunter is right. But Commissioner Hernandez caught me drinking on the job. I see. Is this a serious problem? No, no, it’s definitely not. I was just, I was going through a rough patch and I’ve been seeing a therapist and it will never happen again, I can promise you that.

Well then, it seems you learned your lesson. I’m afraid the same can’t be said for your former boss, which is why I need to appoint a new commissioner. Immediately.

Well, I suppose it’s good that you don’t hold a grudge. Try not to. Mainly because it’s too exhausting. Wow, Chanel said something just like that to me. What, you talked to Chanel? I ran into her yesterday. And we actually had a pretty good time. That’s great. Yeah. You know, maybe she’s ready to put everything that happened at the bakery behind her and you two can be friends again.

Yeah. Friends. Oh. You were hoping for something more than that? You

spent time with Talia? I bumped into her in the square and she had just left Colin’s hearing and he got sentenced to 20 years. Oh, well, there’s some good news at last. Amen to that. Anyway, as they were taking Colin out of the courtroom, he said some pretty horrible things to Talia. And I told her that none of that was true and I tried to make her feel better.

No matter what Talia did, she didn’t deserve to be abused by Colin. Anyway, next thing I know we were having dinner together and we had such a good time that I remember why I, I liked her so much in the first place, before everything went south. And, the more we talked… The more you talk? The more I, I started to feel connection to her.

What kind of connection? Are you, are you saying that you’re attracted to this girl?

You know, Pauline has been through a lot these past few weeks. But I talked to her this morning and I think she understands that you just, you just need some time. I didn’t mean to hurt her. I know that. I know what would have happened if I’d stayed. She would have been watching me. Prompting me. Trying to get me to remember and then trying to hide her hurt if I didn’t.

It would have been awful. It would have hurt her more than my leaving. I think you might be right. And when she kissed me, it was just so strange. I mean, I knew she was my wife, and…

But I didn’t know her. You don’t remember her at all? I get these little, these little palimpsests. I’d see her in my dreams for a moment. And I’d even recognize her for a moment.

Then the next… Next minute I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t know her at all.

Everything, everything, everything is just so jumbled in my head. I, I, I, I, I just, I just don’t know how to make any sense of it.

Do I want to be more than friends with Chanel?

Honestly? I don’t, I don’t know. I mean, I’ve never been attracted to women. And the only reason I came on to Chanel in the first place is because Colin was pressuring me to. He wanted me to break her heart. And I did everything that he asked me to. But it’s like, when, when we kissed, I actually felt something.

Huh. But you’re not sure you want to act on it? Look, like I said, I don’t know. I just know that everything right now is just, God, it’s just so confusing. And after everything with Colin, it’s like, I don’t know what’s true and what’s not.

I don’t know, maybe I should just talk to my therapist about this.

Don’t worry, Dr. Evans, I’ll text another orderly to bring a wheelchair down and take Ms. Vitale back to her room. Thanks, Janima. Thank you.

Are you alright?

Yeah, do you know that woman? Yes, that’s Ava Vitale. She’s been having hallucinations about her, her dead son, Charlie. Yeah, she said she thought I was Charlie. Oh. Well, maybe something about you reminded her of him. And somehow… Triggered that episode.

Yeah, maybe. It’s just so strange the way she looked at me.

It felt like she actually knew me.

If you need a commissioner, why don’t you just bring Rafe back? He’s a great guy, he’s a great boss, and he’s done a lot for this city. Yeah, Sean’s right. The department has had an incredibly high clearance rate since Rafe has been in charge. Every cop has done his or her job the best for him. So, ex commissioner Hernandez still has you under his thumb, shall we say.

I have never been, nor am I, under his thumb. Our relationship was and always has been completely consensual. Despite explicitly violating the city’s policy. Rafe made a mistake. But that has nothing to do with his job performance. By engaging in a relationship with a subordinate, he proved that his judgment isn’t to be trusted.

Which has everything to do with his job. Now, my decision stands. Which is why I need to appoint someone to his position. But… As you pointed out, detective, with the department’s high clearance rate, I would be foolish not to consider an internal hire. You

know, I agree with you. And I think that Detective Hunter would make an excellent commissioner. You know, I was actually thinking about you, detective.

I just can’t think straight. One minute I know I’m married to Paulina. The next I picture Whitley in a wedding dress. And then I, I, I know, I know Theo’s my son, but I still see that actor, Jerry. As hard as I try, I can’t I just can’t seem to get it straight. You know, it’s understandable. You suffered a severe head injury.

And then Whitley kept giving you drugs to keep you a prisoner. And then parade a bunch of strangers in front of you and claim that they’re your loved ones.

She’s not still telling me those stories. Or giving me drugs. What, are the… Are the effects of those, are the effects permanent? Am, am, am I going to be like this forever?

I know you were attracted to Talia. You know, when you first started working together, before we found why she really came here, you know, what she was really up to. Yeah, I thought there was something there at the beginning. But then she was just putting on an act. And now you know everything about her and told me that just last night you felt like you did when you first met her.

Well, I guess I’m wondering how you really feel about her.

Hey, Marie. Well, I’ll be back from lunch in a little while. Can’t it wait until then? What?

I don’t think that you need to worry about those drugs. I saw your blood work at the hospital and it was mainly some sedatives with a little psychotropics mixed in. Nothing that would cause permanent damage. I still don’t know why she would do this to me. She experienced some severe trauma. She lost her husband in a tragic accident.

I think she had some kind of psychotic break and then you had amnesia and it gave her the perfect opportunity to relive her life that she lost. I had no choice but to believe it was mine too. You know, I, I don’t recognize. Faces of any of my family and friends. Just like you, your husband Sam. Steve.

You see? Uh, all these new names and faces, it’s just… Oh,

it’s just overwhelming.

You know, I, um, I think I have a way that maybe could help you. I’m,

I’m sorry to leave you after that, but I’ve got to get back to University Hospital. Oh, it’s fine, I understand. Actually, I have a meeting with my, uh, therapist in a little while. Really, it’s, it’s, it’s okay. Alright. You’ll call me if you need anything at all. I will.

Sorry, I really have to go shower. I have an appointment, and I can’t show up smelling like whatever’s rotten behind the white dove. No, not good. I hope I didn’t use all the hot water. I doubt it. You know, between me and you, I’m pretty sure the water pressure is why Jada stays in the first place. Anyways, it was really nice talking to you.

Yeah, you too.

It’s alright, Marie. I’ll be there as soon as I can. What’s wrong? What happened? There was a surprise inspection from the health department and we failed. So, the inspector said that they’re shutting us down. What? Yeah. This doesn’t make any sense, Mama. I have been so careful since they let me reopen. I have followed every single regulation.

I have kept the place spotless. Oh, there’s got to be some mistake. That’s just it. Maurice said that the order came straight from the acting mayor. The mayor? Mm hmm. I met him a few weeks ago, and he told me that he was against Sweet Bits reopening, and he said that if there was one more scandal, he would have me shut down.

This is personal, Mama. That guy, he’s out to get me.

Carla, you want, you want me to be commissioner? Why not? You come from a long line of commissioners. Your mother, your uncle, even your father. If you ask me, It’s high time we had another Brady sitting in the commissioner’s chair. Mayor Rawlings, are you serious? Detective Brady is just coming off a suspension.

Which is why it’s the perfect time to accept this new position. But Detective Hunter’s right. I’m sorry, but I, I can’t accept it. Yes, you can. And you will if you want to continue to work in this department. Those are my terms. Take it or leave it.

Come in. Hi, Dr. Evans. I’m so sorry. I hope I’m not late. No, you’re right on time. I’m behind because I had to clean up after doing community service. How’s that going? Fine. Yeah. I know that Colin Bedford was sentenced yesterday. Yeah, I was in the courtroom. Oh. Well, that must have brought up a lot of feelings for you, seeing him again.

Do you want to talk about it? No. Actually, I don’t want to talk about my feelings for him. I want to talk about my feelings for Chanel.

You wanted to see me? Yes, we did. Mayor Rawlings, Sweet Bits has been recertified by the Department of Health after that unfortunate biscuit incident. So why on earth has it been closed again? Well, it’s simple. Miss Dupree failed to adhere to the city’s regulations. That’s not true. Oh, Chanel has followed every rule to the letter.

She doesn’t display the official City of Salem sticker, which all businesses are required to do. Well, that’s because they didn’t give me one. When Sweet Bits got recertified, they were out of them and then they told me that they were going to send me one as soon as they restocked. Be that as it may, the city cannot allow any businesses to operate without displaying the sticker.

This is outrageous! Sweet Bits has been open for weeks now and never one problem. You know, when my husband was mayor But he isn’t. Mayor. Not anymore. And maybe he was happy looking the other way at your numerous scandals, would I assure you? My administration is by the book. I make the rules in this town now.

Which means the bakery is closed. Good day, ladies. Oh my god, mama! Now what? So

you had these made up for me? Yeah, I, um, I picked them up from the printer this morning. Well, that’s kind of you. Well, let’s see if they work, okay? Do you know who… this is? Uh, she looks very familiar. Uh, Char… Charlene? It’s um, it’s Marlena. Marlena. Marlena. Marlena. Right. Marlena. And she’s married to your best friend.

Um. John. John. John. Right. I, I met him with your husband Steve. Right. Right. Um, okay. And who is, this one’s kind of hard. I don’t know if you’re Wraith? That’s amazing! I saw his name written on the back of the car. Nice. Nice. You’re a cheater.

Hey. Just, uh, catching up on some body and soul. Oh, mind if I turn it off? Yeah. What’s up? What are you doing back so soon? Well, I had to get here to tell you about the new developments at the office. In person. I must be something big. You could say that you might wanna brace yourself.

Mhm.

Mhm.
