Jack: Stark.

Jeremy: Jack. It’s good to see you again.

Jack: Wish I could say the same thing. What exactly is going on here?

Jeremy: Oh, just two old friends catching up.

Jack: I am well aware of the nature of your past “friendship” with diane. She’s made that very clear. What I don’t understand is how you are showing up at my home and now here unannounced. This is my place of work. You are not welcome here. Is that clear? Or would calling security fortify my point?

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Ashley: Anything interesting going on in the world?

Tucker: Hey. Oh, I was just checking the markets.

Ashley: Good or bad?

Tucker: Yes.

[ Laughs ] You look lovely.

Ashley: Oh, thank you. You look nice.

Tucker: Thank you. Very pleased you were available for lunch.

Ashley: Well, I’m not sure you’re gonna find that to be true in 10 minutes. I might not be that great of company today.

Tucker: Uh-oh. Rough morning?

Ashley: Yeah. Um, kyle was really upset with me.

Tucker: Oh. What about?

Ashley: Jeremy stark’s in town.

Tucker: Mm.

Ashley: Yeah. And jack and kyle both think that diane’s in danger, and of course they blame me.

Tucker: Well, if you ask me about —

Ashley: You’re gonna say that she deserves everything she gets — right? — Because she brought it on herself.

Tucker: No. No. That’s actually not what I was gonna say.

Ashley: Oh, okay. What?

Tucker: [ Laughs ] Of all the people I know, you are one of the smartest and most capable and savviest. So please don’t take this the wrong way, but I believe you are in way over your head with this jeremy stark business. And I think it would be wise for you, moving forward, to um, distance yourself from nikki and phyllis.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Lily: Nate.

Nate: Lily. I hope this won’t be a problem.

Abby: Well, louise is gonna take you to the park. And — yeah — you can swing and you can feed the ducks. But it’s cold outside, so we got to get our jacket on ’cause it’s “brrr!” “Brrr!” Yeah.

Chance: I’m all set. That’s the last of my things. I’ve got it loaded in the car now.

Abby: Go see dad.

Chance: Hey, buddy. Come here. Come see me, big guy. Yeah. Hey, man. What you got there? Hey, so, daddy’s got to leave now, okay? But I’m gonna be back real soon. And I love you very much. Yes, I do. You be good for your mommy while I’m gone, okay?

Abby: [ Sniffles ]

Chance: Alright. Let’s hang out for a bit. Yeah.

Dominic: Buh.

Chance: “Buh?” Look at that. Whoa!

[ Deep voice ] “Hello, dominic.” For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Chance: Listen, buddy, I know you don’t understand what’s going on right now. But sometimes, you know, parents live in different houses. So, just like your other daddy lived somewhere else, now i will, too. And that’s okay. You know why? ‘Cause that means more one-on-one time with you and me. Woo-woo-wah! Well, I hope you know you’re always gonna have your mommy and daddy, okay? You’re a lucky dude, man. You know why? ‘Cause you got so many people who love you. And you always will. Yeah. Yeah. Come on, buddy.

Nate: I’ve been meaning to thank you.

Lily: For what?

Nate: For agreeing to let elena do a few more podcasts and then return to newman media.

Lily: Yeah, well, I’ll be upset to lose the content and her talent, but I don’t want to force her to stay with us if she’d rather work with you.

Nate: I appreciate that. And I know she does, too.

Lily: I think people do their best work where they’re happiest.

Nate: I couldn’t agree more.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Clearly we’re gonna avoid the elephant in the room.

Nate: I assumed that was by design.

Lily: Look, nate… devon is really angry. And I am, too. But I’m also… I’m hurt. And I’m confused. Like, I just don’t understand how you could betray us like that.

Nate: Listen, lily. I’m sorry it all fell apart. My hope is one day that we can find a way to work through this, come together as a family.

Lily: You broke our trust. And trust is everything when it comes to family.

Nate: But I didn’t do what i did in a void. Devon played a part. I believe you realize that deep down. And at least you have a forgiving heart.

Ashley: So, you’ve done a 180?

Tucker: Yeah, I suppose i have.

Ashley: You suppose you have? No, you have, considering you’re the one that gave me the information that actually connected diane to stark.

Tucker: True. It’s just that, um, upon further reflection, I’ve changed my mind about a couple of things.

Ashley: Such as?

Tucker: Well, like the way the three of you were conspiring to humiliate diane and — and destroy her life and chase her out of town. It’s a bit heavy-handed and not terribly fair to her, either.

Ashley: Well, now you’re defending diane.

Tucker: No, I’m not defending her. No, I just — I’ve actually been wondering lately if your hatred of her is not partially my fault.

Ashley: Well, don’t stop now. I’m intrigued. I want to hear this theory.

Tucker: Well, it’s not much of a theory, really. It’s just that, um, all those years ago, when I cheated on you with her…

Ashley: Mm, mm-hmm.

Tucker: …I betrayed you in the worst way. And I was your fiancé. So I’m the one you ought to be mad at. Diane should not have to bear the brunt of all your rage, at least not to the point where you’re working overtime to — to send her into exile. ‘Cause my fling with her was absolutely all my fault. I own that now.

[ Laughing ] What?

Ashley: Are you for real?

Tucker: I’m not saying that your feelings for her are not justified. You never could stand her, right?

Ashley: Yeah, for good reason.

Tucker: Right. The point I’m trying to make is that I get where you’re coming from in a way that, uh — that jack and kyle obviously cannot. But, ashley, jeremy stark is trouble, and, uh, it’s my advice that you redirect your anger back at me, that you separate yourself from nikki and phyllis, let them handle this for a while.

Jeremy: [ Laughing ] Ohh. I’m impressed. Your new partner has such gravitas. Well done, you. But I have to admit, it was much more friendly the other day when I dropped by the house. What was it that jack said? Oh, yes — “any friend of diane’s is always welcome.” My, how quickly we change our mind. I hope you haven’t been speaking unkindly of me.

Jack: I read the article about you being released from prison, detailing all the crimes you’ve committed. Now I formed my own opinions, all of which led me to, you are not someone I want hanging around.

Jeremy: You know, you and your son have grossly misinterpreted my intentions. You think I want to hurt diane?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] As i suspected, you’re under the false impression that I worked with the authorities to get you convicted and put away.

Jack: Wait, why would he think that?

Diane: Because jeremy received an anonymous tip. But I’ve assured him it’s not true.

Jeremy: And I assured diane i didn’t care one way or the other.

Diane: I find that hard to believe.

Jeremy: Even if you cooperated with the authorities in ways in which it led to my little time-out from the world, who could blame you? Certainly not I. I used you rather shamelessly for my own personal gain, which put you in self-preservation mode. So, no, I hold no animosity. And, frankly, you should know that because the whole reason why you’re free and never implicated in my crimes is because I never mentioned your name to the fbi, not once. I protected you. And that’s why you’re here, happily reunited with your family, right? Because of my good will, not because you struck some deal for immunity. Now, there is a financial situation that we need to discuss, but that’s just between you and me.

Jack: How much? How much will it cost for you to leave diane alone? Dupixent helps you du more with less asthma.

Diane: No, jack, he is not here to pay my debts or fight my battles.

Jeremy: Well, like I said before, we have something that we need to discuss, just the two of us. But we’ll sort it out, right, di? Maybe some sort of a payment plan?

Diane: There is nothing to pay off. I don’t owe you a thing.

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] Well, we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Jack: Since you’ve turned down my offer, I think we’re done here. I’d like you to leave my building. And don’t come back here or to my home.

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Have a nice day.

Diane: Ugh. The more he smiles, the more convinced him that I’m in serious danger.

Jack: I agree. If he was just after money, he would have taken my offer. No, he’s — he’s here to settle a score.

Tucker: No dessert? Come on. Live a little.

Ashley: Yeah. Uh, I’m not done talking about diane. I’m sorry. There’s something I need to clarify.

Tucker: Sure.

Ashley: Uh, I never, ever wanted things to escalate the way they have. I just wanted her out of town.

Tucker: Okay. Even if it means tearing her away from the only family she has left?

Ashley: Oh, come on, tucker. I mean, clearly, I never wanted to hurt kyle.

Tucker: Mm. But diane is fair game.

Ashley: Yeah. I guess so. She devastated that little boy to save her own skin, so I don’t have any sympathy for her.

Tucker: Mm. Well, given what dina did to you for her own selfish reasons, i totally appreciate why you would feel that way. However, um, there’s a big difference between not having any sympathy for diane and — and running her out of town.

Ashley: Okay, this is a lot more than not having sympathy for her. I mean, there’s a lot of reasons why I want diane out of town. How about the fact that she faked her death? Who does that? We all got arrested for it. Me. And, you know, I don’t want her sinking her fangs into my brother again. And, yes, perhaps there is a little residual outrage, the fact that she slept, had sex with my fiancé. And that would be you, tucker. She had sex with you, tucker.

Tucker: Yes, I know. That’s what I’m trying to tell you. So, let me have that anger. I, uh — I have learned to take responsibility for my mistakes because I have changed, right? Haven’t we both changed? And isn’t it time that we let go of the painful past and stop letting it dictate our future?

Ashley: I love that.

Tucker: What?

Ashley: I love it that you want me to let go of my anger when it’s actually your past actions that need letting go of.

Tucker: Mm. God. I love you. And that is what I love about us, that we are equally matched. ‘Cause you see me, right? But I see you, too. You know, when you ended things, I recall you saying to me, “love isn’t enough.” And looking back at those days, I understand why it wasn’t, I mean, considering what I did to you and — and where we were as people back then. But if time passes and people evolve and — and two people come to have a deeper understanding, a deeper connection with each other, isn’t that enough? I mean, at least as a foundation to grow on? Aren’t we both wiser now and have enough life experience to [Sighs] — To realize what we lost? ‘Cause I know you know how good it was.

[ Chuckles ] Can you imagine how much better it would be now if we just gave us one more chance?

Chance: Louise just took dom to the park.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Good, good.

Chance: I should probably get going now.

Abby: Um, before you go, we should probably talk about schedules for visitation.

Chance: Yeah, sure.

Abby: I hope you know that you’re welcome to come by and see dominic anytime you’d like.

Chance: Yeah. I’ll be sure to call first.

Abby: Um, I know your schedule at the precinct is pretty unpredictable, so I told louise to make sure that you had first priority when I’m not home.

Chance: I appreciate that. Thank you for the flexibility.

Abby: Of course.

Chance: I’m gonna make spending time with him a priority. I promise.

Abby: Yes, um, ’cause consistency is really important for dominic. I would never want him to feel abandoned.

Chance: Okay, well, um… you take care. I’ll see you guys soon.

Abby: [ Voice breaking ] Chance, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Can you believe that? I’m jonathan lawson

Jack: Should we be involving the police in this? I mean, surely he is violating his parole with these menacing visits.

Diane: [ Sighs ] So far, he hasn’t threatened me outright. That’s the way jeremy works. It’s all innuendo. If we bring in the police, it’ll just make him even more angry.

Jack: Well, what was in your immunity deal? There had to be some protection. At least you could insist he not contact you.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Invoking that might only make things worse. I mean, it’d be admitting to jeremy that I lied, that i informed on him.

Jack: Yeah, I can see your point there.

Diane: Okay, I think the smartest thing to do is to stick to the story that I had nothing to do with him getting caught.

Jack: There is one other idea you might need to consider.

Diane: What’s that?

Jack: I know you explained why you didn’t go into the witness protection program when he was arrested. Maybe you could get the feds to offer the same thing now that he’s out and coming after you.

Diane: Jack, no! No. I didn’t fight this hard to get back here to kyle and — and harrison and you… just to leave it all behind and start over again with a new identity. No, I will not be intimidated into going back to that lonely life. We need to — we need to figure this out on our own.

Jack: Okay. Okay. I understand. I do. After meeting him, I am seriously worried about your safety.

Diane: That makes two of us.

Jack: I thought offering him money was a slam dunk. Apparently, I was wrong.

Diane: Alright, there might be another way out of this.

Ashley: Thanks again for lunch.

Tucker: You bet. Glad you enjoyed it. Even though you did dodge my questions.

Ashley: Mm. Okay, well, I can give you a couple answers, I guess. I still haven’t seen a huge amount of evidence that you’ve actually changed.

Tucker: [ Scoffs ]

Ashley: Well, I haven’T.

Tucker: Fantastic.

Ashley: And I am not prepared to, um, give our romantic relationship another shot.

Tucker: Ah. You’re killing me here.

Ashley: But I will say you are nothing if not persistent.

Tucker: [ Laughs ] Wow! What a victory! I am — I am going to take a victory lap on that one.

Ashley: You should. I’m gonna sweeten it, too. I’m gonna tell you that i appreciate your insight into my anger. And I promise you that I’m going to try to direct some of my diane vitriol right at you.

Tucker: You’re welcome.

[ Clears throat ] And you know me. I’m never gonna count myself out ’cause you and I are meant to be.

Ashley: Have a nice day.

Tucker: You too.

[ Glass thuds ]

Chance: I’m sorry, too, abby. And I just want to reiterate that I don’t think one thing led to all this or one person is at fault here. I mean, looking back, I think it’s an accumulation of a lot of things. I think we got married too fast. I think we tried to have a kid before we really knew each other. And then I just left on that assignment months after our wedding. I mean, I know that caught you off guard, and it royally messed me up. And what I went through over there and what I brought back here and what I struggled to heal from — I mean, it’s not exactly what newlyweds dream of. What I think it comes down to is I think we are just two different people. And I think we need different things to make us happy. And unfortunately, we can’t give each other those things. As much as we want to, we can’T. And all, you know, this, you and devon — I think this is just the breaking point. But in probability, I think we have been doomed since the beginning.

Abby: [ Voice breaking ] Don’t say that. Please don’t say that because it diminishes everything that we had, all the love that we had for each other, the love that we still have for each other. I know it’s there. I know it’s underneath all of this pain.

Chance: I’m less certain of that. I’ve disconnected from those feelings, abby. Too much has happened. I’ve accepted that it’s over, and I hope you can, too, so we can just move on with our lives.

Abby: [ Sniffles, sighs ]

[ Sobs ]

Chance: [ Breathes deeply ]

Lily: I want to be able to get past this. But don’t rush me. And don’t push devon, either, because it’s a lot harder for him to forgive.

Nate: I am well aware of that. I’m curious what else is going on with devon.

Lily: What are you talking about?

Nate: I got a message from imani saying that she and amanda were staying in virginia, that something upsetting happened and amanda resigned?

Lily: That’s a family issue, nate. And, sadly, that’s none of your concern now.

Diane: So, what do you think? Will it work?

Jack: I hate that we’re being forced into this. But, yeah, your plan makes sense.

Diane: It’s the least awful solution I could come up with on the fly.

Jack: So, kyle takes you to the cabin, gets you settled in there, he comes back here, you lay low there, and stark thinks you fled in fear and hopefully moves on.

Diane: I hate having to leave for any length of time, but i think it’s safest for everyone involved. Me being here puts the whole family at risk. You know, let jeremy think that I ran off and disappeared. And if nikki and phyllis and ashley think that, too, then maybe they’ll believe they finally succeeded in getting rid of me and leave me alone.

Jack: Yeah.

Diane: You know, phyllis seemed a little nervous around jeremy earlier. Maybe she finally realized that she’s playing with fire.

Jack: Wait, what are you talking about now?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Well, I was with phyllis at jabot when jeremy just showed up. And he thinks he recognized her voice as the person who called him to tell him where to find me and that I ratted him out.

Jack: God, is this war between you two ever going to end, or is that just too much to ask for?

Diane: Jack, I — I didn’t — I didn’t bring this up to upset you, just to let you know that i haven’t been hurling false accusations. My fears are well founded. And right now they are telling me that we need to put this plan in motion.

Jack: Okay, okay, okay, okay. Kyle and I are going to make sure nothing happens to you.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ]

“The young and the restless”

will continue. There’s something new from better than bouillon

Diane: [ Sighs ] I need to get back to the hotel and get my things.

Jack: Yeah.

Diane: Okay.

Jack: I’ll walk you to the door.

Diane: Okay.

Jack: Hey, hey. I have jabot security. They’re gonna accompany you to the hotel. They will wait for you and kyle, and then they will escort you up to the cabin.

Diane: I’ll be in touch when I can.

[ Loudly ] Goodbye, jack. I appreciate everything you’ve done, but I-I-I can’t put you or your family in jeopardy. Thank you for everything.

[ Door closes ]

Ashley: What’s going on?

Jack: I hope you’re happy. Diane is leaving town, running away from jeremy stark, who’s made it very clear he is out to get her. Thanks to your friends and you, she may never return.

Chance: Small coffee, black.

Sharon: Hey. Uh, your expression looks much like it did right after rey died.

Chance: Well, my marriage is over. I just moved out, said, uh, my goodbye to abby.

Sharon: Chance, I’m so sorry. I know how hard that can be.

Chance: Yeah. It was tough. I don’t know why. You know, packing up all my things, knowing I’m not gonna wake up in the morning to my wife and my son. My life doesn’t revolve around my family anymore. I’m sad. A bit numb.

Sharon: Well, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed at a time like this.

Chance: I’m a bit relieved, too, though. I was trying to make something true that wasn’T. Just another reason why this divorce had to happen.

Devon: Was there a problem with our table or…

Lily: No, no, no. We can sit any time. I was just waiting for you.

Devon: Okay.

Nate: I heard amanda was staying in virginia. Did something happen between you two?

Devon: Does that sound like it’s any of your business? The nerve of him wanting to talk about my personal life.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Um, look…

Devon: Hmm?

Lily: …Before we order, i just want to let you know that i spoke to jill.

Devon: What’d she say?

Lily: She wants to move forward with the ipo. She feels like we’ve waited long enough and that because nate is not with the company, he can’t sell his shares to victoria, so there’s no longer a threat. And she wants to move forward. Unless — what? I mean, do you think that tucker is still up to something?

Tucker: Someone’s in a hurry.

Diane: I hope you’re happy. It’s all come to a head because of you.

Tucker: Am I supposed to guess what you’re referring to?

Diane: Oh, you know damn well what I’m talking about. It’s jeremy stark.

Tucker: Ah.

Diane: Ever since he arrived, he has been breathing down my neck, and now I have to leave because it’s too dangerous.

Tucker: Are you leaving?

Diane: Yeah.

Tucker: Oh, good. That’s the wise choice. Although I don’t think I can take all the credit. I’m not the one who — who smuggled cash out of the country for an international criminal. I believe that was you. But, uh, for whatever it’s worth, I feel for you.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: Rock and a hard place and all that. Hey, do you need money or anything to help you get you on your feet wherever you end up — ugh! Announcer: Type 2 diabetes?

Tucker: That was a good one.

Diane: [ Sighs ] You’re going to crash and burn here, too. You are deluded if you think you will ever win ashley back, and you will never outsmart jack.

Tucker: Yeah, we’ll see.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] You know what? I have half a mind to call devon and warn him not to trust you under any circumstances. But you know what? It really won’t make a difference because whatever your plans are, they are going to fail epically.

[ Door slams ]

Ashley: I think diane leaving town is the best solution for everybody.

Jack: Oh, I’m sure you do think that. Let’s just be clear, though. She didn’t go out of town. She was forced out of town by you three forcing her hand. I couldn’t be more disappointed in you.

Ashley: Well, I’m sorry you feel that way.

Jack: But you’re not sorry for your behavior. You know, your initial attempts to shame diane were small and petty and juvenile, like a — a clique of high school mean girls. But this? Luring a felon into town to harass her? It’s — it’s beyond the pale. And you could get her killed.

Ashley: I had nothing to do, absolutely nothing to do with stark coming to town.

Jack: Please. That is so much bull. As far as I’m concerned, the three of you are equally guilty. Maybe you didn’t pick up the phone and call him. As a matter of fact, I have learned that stark seems to think phyllis is the one that tipped him off. You all wanted her out of town so badly, you would do anything. Well, you’ve gone too far, ash, much too far.

Devon: Thank you. Uh, what were we talking about?

Lily: Tucker. Does he pose a threat if we go public?

Devon: Right. Uh, I’m gonna say, yes, he does, just because we don’t know for sure what his intentions are. We can guess all we want, but that’s all it’s ever gonna be, is a guess. He could have a bunch of plans that we can’t predict.

Lily: Yeah, but, devon, i don’t want to put jill off and put off the potential growth of our company for some what-ifs.

Devon: You’re gonna have to if you want to give me more time to find out what’s going on in his head.

Lily: Well, how much time do you want?

Devon: I don’t know. What were you and nate talking about when I came in here?

Lily: [ Sighs ] He wants to earn our forgiveness.

Devon: And how do you feel about that?

Lily: I’m just trying to look at things from both sides, you know, see if there’s some way we can move past this.

Devon: Well, good luck with that.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Let me just ask you a question.

Devon: What?

[ Sighs ]

Lily: Is nate betraying us any worse than how you betrayed amanda?

Devon: Are you joking right now? Why would you go there at all?

Lily: No, I’m just — I’m just — I’m just asking. I’m just asking. It’s a “yes” or “no.”

Devon: It’s a completely different situation, is what it is.

Lily: Well, point is, is that you did something hurtful that you regret, and you want amanda’s forgiveness, right?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Okay. So, how is that any different than nate wanting our forgiveness? Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Listen, man, nate doesn’t deserve our forgiveness because what he did was calculated. He planned the whole thing. Think about how much time he and victoria spent strategizing against us. What abby and I did just happened. We didn’t set out to hurt anybody. We didn’t plan anything. And we don’t feel good about it. Nate doesn’t seem like he regrets anything. Hey, hang on one second. I’ll be right back, okay?

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Do you want to sit down and talk some more?

Chance: Oh, um… thank you, sharon, but not now. It still feels a little fresh.

Sharon: I understand.

Chance: But, hey, when all this settles down and I can process everything, I don’t feel like I got hit by semi, you know, I’d love to take you up on that offer.

Sharon: Well, whenever you’re ready, I’ll be here.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Abby: Devon?

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hi.

Devon: Abby, you alright?

Abby: [ Sniffles ] I’ve been better. Chance packed his things and he left today.

[ Voice breaking ] It’s really over.

[ Sniffles ]

Devon: Sorry.

Abby: [ Breathes deeply ]

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Nate: This is quite the touchy subject for you, isn’t it? Makes me wonder — what in the world could you have done to mess things up with amanda?

Billy: I don’t think there’s anything you need to make amends for or apologize for.

Chelsea: That’s nice of you to say, but we both know it’s not true.

Billy: So we are talking about what happened in myanmar.

Tucker: If I were to propose to you that you quit your family business and let me help you build your own empire, what would you say to that?
