Lily: Uh…did I walk into the right place?
Billy: You sure did. Welcome home.
Lily: Hmm…
Nick: Well, the charity concert went about as well as we could have hoped.
Devon: I would say so. I would say it was a bona fide hit. We raised a ton of money and awareness for new hope.
Nick: You also made one of my daughter’s dreams come true by introducing her to tigirlily.
Devon: That’s right. That’s right. Moses asked his brother here if I would do a favor for the girl that he likes. So, how could I say no to that?
Nick: I think those two have figured things out.
Devon: Yeah, I think so, too. It’s good. They’re cute together.
Nick: Hey, you’re back already?
Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah. Thanks for keeping him company.
Devon: Oh, anytime. Anytime, yeah. He’s all yours now. I’ll talk to you later, though.
Nick: It was a quick trip. You either hit pay dirt or hit a brick wall.
Phyllis: If I’d hit a brick wall, you should pity the wall.
Sharon: Hey! This is a surprise.
Rey: Well, my superiors might not be happy with me stealing a moment in the middle of my shift with my beautiful wife, so it’s gonna have to be our little secret.
Sharon: Well, I’m not gonna tell anyone.
Jack: Hey, you two. Hope I’m not interrupting.
Sharon: No.
Jack: Listen — have you maybe heard from mariah?
Sharon: Um, I have gotten a few texts from her. Why? What’s wrong?
Jack: Well, I was hoping you could tell me that. She texted me that she would take a couple of days off after her business trip, and I didn’t realize how long this vacation was gonna take.
Sharon: She’s taking some personal time, but she’s expected to be back today.
Jack: Okay, the problem is, she hasn’t been in contact with me or anyone at jabot, and at the risk of sounding insensitive to whatever she’s dealing with, she’s kind of left us in the lurch. We’re putting projects on hold. Things are falling through the cracks.
Sharon: That’s really not like her.
Jack: But I can only cut her so much slack before I have to take action. In fact, I hate to say this, but if she’s not back to work soon, I’m gonna have to find a replacement.
Abby: [ Sighs ]
Tessa: I checked in with the doctor’s office. Mariah has not rescheduled her appointment.
Abby: Then why hasn’t she showed up yet?
Tessa: She’s cutting it close, but she technically still has time.
Abby: [ Sighs ] I have reread these messages from mariah a million times, and she said that she’s gonna be back in time for her appointment. And uncle jack has called her several times on behalf of jabot to find out what’s going on, and he hasn’t heard anything, either.
[ Sighs ]
[ Cellphones chiming ] What the hell?
Tessa: What — what is this? Why would mariah send such a bland group text over something so important? I don’t know what’s happening.
Abby: I do. Mariah’s not coming home.
Mariah: [ Gasps ] Oh! Oh. Okay. Ah, thank you. I needed that. Just keep kicking, okay? Keep letting me know that — that you’re in there. We have to keep fighting, or… we may never get out of here. Hi, I’m pat and I’m 75 years old.

Lily: Well, if this is what i have to come home to, maybe i should go out of town more often.
Billy: Don’t say that. I don’t want you out of town.
Lily: [ Laughs ]
Billy: I missed you like crazy.
Lily: Aw! I missed you, too, although it was really nice to see mattie, though.
Billy: How’d the move go?
Lily: It was good. I got her away from her psychotic roommate and moved her into her new place, and now she’s very happy.
Billy: Glad to hear that. Did I mention I missed you like crazy?
Lily: Yeah!
Billy: It was lonely as hell here without you. And the kids were on a sleepover, too.
Lily: Oh, I’m sure you enjoyed your “me” time, watching action films with the sound on full blast, didn’t you?
Billy: Actually, no, it was all about rom-coms, making sure I was prepared for when you got home. How did I do?
Lily: Well, I mean, clearly, you are an a-plus student. You have the flowers, the candles, the caviar.
Billy: Yeah.
Lily: All that’s missing is a flash mob serenading me.
Billy: Hold that thought. They’re just about to pop out of the closet in 3, 2, 1…
Lily: [ Laughing ] Oh, my god! But no, you don’t have to watch movies for inspiration. You, just as you are, is all I’ll ever need.
Abby: “I’m not ready to face the doctor yet, not ready to come home. I’m sorry. I know this is torture for all of you, but I’ve got to get in a better head space, and I need to do it on my own.” Now she can’t face the doctor? Before she left, she was so excited about the doctor’s appointments. She was eager to see how much the baby had grown.
Tessa: I can’t imagine what’s changed so drastically. And the fact that she’s just ignoring work?
Abby: This is all my fault. I put too much pressure on her, so much so that now she regrets becoming a surrogate in the first place.
Tessa: Ugh! This just doesn’t make sense.
Abby: No, none of it makes sense. I-I’m some — somehow I’m responsible for pushing her away from everyone that cares about her, including you. And if, you know, we could just talk, but she won’t respond to my texts, even. So, how are we gonna talk? I mean, it’s clearly not an option. But if we could work through this together… I don’t know. I guess now we just have to pray that mariah works this out herself. I mean, not just for her but also for the baby.
[ Sighs ]
Phyllis: So, I had a real enlightening conversation with eric forrester and angelina marchetti. Do you know that sally flew all the way to los angeles to convince eric to recommend summer for the job in milan?
Nick: That’s odd. But it also sounds benevolent on the face of it.
Phyllis: On the face of it, yeah, sure. Of course. But we’re talking about sally. Why would she do that… especially going back to a town that she left under a black cloud? Summer’s her rival. Why would she have eric recommend her for a job that she was gunning for herself?
Nick: Well, it makes sense that sally’s end game was to get summer out of town and then take the job at jcv, but what exactly is sally guilty of? Recommending summer for her dream job? It doesn’t sound like much of a crime.
Phyllis: Something had to happen, something else. We’re missing a piece of the puzzle. We really are. I mean, what was it that pushed summer over the edge, where she felt that she had to call off her engagement and say yes to this job? I’m about to find out.
Nick: Good luck.
Phyllis: Thanks, baby.
Sally: Oh, joy. Look who’s back in town.
Phyllis: Hey, did you get the picture of me and eric and angelina?
Sally: Oh, that was for me? I thought you drunk-texted the wrong person.
Phyllis: Stone-cold sober when I was getting all the dirt I needed on you.
Phyllis: You know, eric was a little taken aback at how strange and secretive you were in los angeles. He knew you were up to something again.
Sally: Well, if eric really thought that I was up to something, he wouldn’t have done me any favors. And the favor that he did me benefited summer. Right? Isn’t that what he told you? So, you’re welcome.
Phyllis: [ Sighing ] Sally… please just drop it. Just come clean with what happened, and I will leave you alone, honestly.
Sally: I have nothing to come clean about. And, frankly, I don’t believe you because you’re just gonna find something else to stalk and harass me about. Fyi, I’m getting on the elevator. So, you might want to scurry back to your laptop and watch me on the security cameras.
Phyllis: You see? You see that, what I’m talking about?
Nick: Yeah, she’s definitely up to something.
Mariah: [ Sighs ] If I could just find a spot that’s thin enough to bust through. Then what? Who knows what’s even waiting for me on the other side? Ugh! I wish I had watched more prison-break movies. I could figure out a way to get us out of here. Right, kiddo? You know, I was thinking. I’m not sure if “kiddo” is cutting it anymore. You’re the only one I’ve been able to talk to while we’ve been locked in here. I’ve been really grateful for that. So, I think you might need something a little bit more personal.
[ Chuckles ] And with all that womb-thumping you’ve been doing lately… you could turn out to be a real musician. So… how about a rock-star nickname? Yeah? Maybe freddie? As in mercury? Bruno, as in mars? Uh… no. What about bowie? Yeah? Do you like that? I think it kind of fits. And if you don’t like it, don’t worry. It’s just temporary until you get back to your mommy and daddy, and they can give you something official. Everyone must be so worried about us. I can’t imagine what they’re going through. You know, I’ve secretly been hoping that tessa bursts through that door and saves us.
[ Sniffles ]
[ Sighs ] Oh!
[ Laughs ] You’re right, bowie. You’re right. I think we need to save ourselves. And your namesake has a song about heroes. We need to be our own.
Nina: Hey, tessa, you okay? I ran into abby on the way out, and she told me about mariah’s change of plans?
Tessa: Yeah, we’re all in shock.
Nina: Yeah! It’s just… it’s crazy!
Tessa: These generic texts from mariah are just driving me insane! I told you I asked her to send a clue if she could. Maybe this last text was the clue. Somewhere buried deep in it, is it possible that she’s signaling for help? Or is the craziness of her even writing the text the clue?
Nina: I wish I knew. Hey, did you have any trouble in tracking her location? I mean, she had to have her phone turned on to send all those texts, right?
Tessa: Oh, it’s not working. I even tried reinstalling it, but I keep getting the same message over and over — “location blocked.”
Nina: So frustrating.
Tessa: Yeah, you’re telling me. I don’t have the resources or the capabilities to find her. So, I think that I’m done playing detective and that we should go to a real one.
Phyllis: I’m glad we’re on the same page.
Nick: Yeah. I’m a little disappointed, though, I didn’t get a chance to be your eyes and ears, like we talked about before you took off for L.A.
Phyllis: Next time.
Nick: Mm. If you’re involved in something like this again, I’m gonna be by your side the whole time so you don’t feel like you have to keep a secret from me.
Phyllis: Deal.
[ Cellphone chimes ] Okay. Jack is on his way over.
Lauren: Hi, guys.
Phyllis: Hey!
Nick: Hey.
Phyllis: Um, should we tell lauren about what we found out? It involves her.
Nick: You think we should wait until we have more proof?
Lauren: Okay, I’m still standing here.
Phyllis: Uh, we may have more evidence. Have a seat. I want to talk to you about this.
Lauren: Oh, yeah, well, i definitely want to know.
Phyllis: Okay. So, um, I think that you should reverse your decision on having sally run jcv.
Lauren: Why? I’ve decided to make her position permanent.
Phyllis: No, no, no. You — you — you have to reconsider. The truth is about to come out.
Lauren: What truth?
Phyllis: Okay, well, sally maneuvered the situation so that she could get summer out of town and she could get the position at jcv.
Lauren: Oh, come on. I find that very hard to believe. Sally wanted that job in italy for herself.
Phyllis: Oh, yeah. Well, that’s what she claims.
Lauren: And when summer got the job, she suggested that sally take her place.
Nick: That may have been part of the deal.
Lauren: What deal? Are you buying into phyllis’ theory now? Because I’m not.
Phyllis: It’s actually not a theory. Sally and tara are working together.
Lauren: To what end?
Phyllis: Because they want to get what they want for themselves! Tara gets kyle, and sally, what does she get? Oh, summer’s position at jcv.
Lauren: Okay, you better have some major proof for these outrageous allegations because sally is doing an amazing job for me, and fenmore’s is just about to acquire tara’s shoe company.
Phyllis: Oh! That deal cannot happen. Don’t settle. Start your day with secret.
Devon: I thought you’d be at the doctor’s appointment with mariah.
Abby: Yeah, she didn’t come back for it, and apparently she won’t be home for who knows how long.
Devon: Why not?
Abby: She sent some vague text, saying that she needs to get in a “better head space.”
Devon: Isn’t that why she left in the first place? How long is that supposed to take?
Abby: I keep asking myself the same question. And I tried not to get too upset in front of tessa because I know mariah is her first concern. But mariah is carrying our baby, and we have no idea where they are.
Tessa: I’m starting to think that mariah is not on a trip at all. I keep coming back to the thought that maybe someone else is sending these messages.
Sharon: Why would they do that?
Tessa: Who knows? Frankly, I don’t care what the motive is. I just know that I am freaking out, and I need to know where mariah is.
Sharon: Okay, I completely understand, and I hope you won’t take offense to this, but you have never been pregnant before. So, you don’t wholly understand how overwhelming it can be. It forces you to go through all of these new emotions at once, changes in your body. It can be an all-encompassing experience. You know, physically, emotionally. Nina, you know what I’m saying. What’s your take on this?
Nina: I’m torn. I mean, I know absolutely pregnancy can be totally overwhelming. But tessa and mariah are so close, I don’t think her instincts should be ignored. Why don’t you show them the app?
Rey: What app?
Tessa: It’s supposed to track mariah’s phone, but somehow she has her locations turned off.
Rey: Yeah, I wouldn’t put too much stock in an app like this. A lot of the ones that consumers can download are unreliable.
Tessa: Well, I’m assuming that gcpd has better technology we can use?
Rey: No, I’m not sure we need to go there quite yet, especially if sharon doesn’t think there’s anything to panic about.
Tessa: I know you know your daughter extremely well. But mariah and I, we share the same heart. And that heart — our heart — is telling me that something is very wrong.
Lily: This caviar is heaven.
Billy: This vodka is perfect, as well.
Lily: Mm-hmm. You know, I think I’m gonna take back what I said about you not needing to watch movies for inspiration because this is fantastic.
Billy: Oh, cue the flash mob out of the closet.
Lily: [ Laughs ] Well, I really hope there’s not a crowd in there because I don’t want them to witness round two.
Billy: Round two?
Lily: Mm-hmm.
Billy: Mm.
Lily: I really, really missed you.
Billy: Mm.
Phyllis: Lauren, you don’t want to be in business with tara locke. Come on! She’s as duplicitous and manipulative as sally. Oh! Oh, I know that look. Oh, I know that look. You know something. You know something! You have — you have evidence of your own, don’t you?
Lauren: I’m reluctant to say anything because I don’t have any evidence.
Phyllis: Oh, well, you better tell us what you know because we told you what we knew.
Lauren: Oh, and then have you jump to conclusions and use what I told you against the two women that I happen to be in business with?
Phyllis: Okay, well, you don’t want to be in business with tara, honestly. Don’t you want to do your due diligence now and find out what she’s all about instead of being, like, duped later on?
Lauren: Okay. We’re doing due diligence on tara’s company before we acquire it. But we’re having some trouble getting some of the financial documents, which is strange because it’s just a normal audit.
Phyllis: Oh, okay, yeah, she’s hiding something in her books.
Lauren: Eh, not necessarily. I would like to reserve judgment until I actually see the documents.
Phyllis: Yeah! If you ever see them.
Lauren: [ Sighs ] Well, you’ve given me a lot to think about.
Phyllis: We are steps closer to taking those two girls down!
Nick: Well, lauren’s info does seem to support your theory.
Phyllis: Damn right it does!
Nick: I’m starting to get very upset on summer’s behalf.
Phyllis: Good! Good! I like it when you’re like this.
[ Cellphone chimes ]
Nick: It’s new hope. I got to take this.
Phyllis: Okay. Alright, tara locke… let’s see if I can figure out what your password is.
Jack: Okay, I’m here, but this better be good. Are you one of the millions of americans
“The young and the restless”
will continue.
Lily: So, our relationship has a new fan.
Billy: Oh, I didn’t know there was a club.
Lily: [ Chuckles ] It’s very small, but it’s growing. No, I showed mattie pictures of our place and told her about us moving in together, and she’s genuinely thrilled that we’re so happy.
Billy: That’s nice. That means a lot.
Lily: Yeah. It’s so weird having a daughter that’s so mature and supportive.
Billy: [ Chuckles ]
Lily: You know? It’s almost like we’ve reversed roles. But I guess I have to admit that my little babies are all grown up. Even charlie’s self-sufficient. It’s like they just don’t need their mom the same way they used to.
Billy: How do you feel about that?
Lily: Um… I feel a little nostalgic sometimes, but…
Billy: Yeah.
Lily: …I also love seeing the people that they’re becoming.
Billy: I hope it doesn’t feel weird that you’re back parenting little ones again, now that johnny and katie are living here more full-time.
Lily: No, not at all. Honestly, it’s the opposite. I mean, I loved spending that time with johnny, and I think katie is such an angel.
Billy: Well, I’m relieved to hear that.
Lily: Yeah. Deciding to share my life with you is one of the best moves I’ve made in a very long time.
Mariah: [ Sighs ] You might not believe this, bowie, but the woman who is carrying you didn’t always lead a very charmed life. And the whole story is — it’s too much for your tender, little ears. But, um… well, I grew up in a cult, with the leader posing as my father, and — shocker — things went off the rails, as situations in cults usually do. So, if I’m making a list of people who could have possibly done this to us, ian ward would definitely be at the top of the list. This is certainly in his wheelhouse of evil deeds. The problem is, ian ward is supposed to be in prison. I mean, I guess he could have convinced one of his disciples to kidnap me and make me pay for some presumed crimes he thinks I’ve committed against him, but if I’m being honest, I think ian ward has bigger fish to fry than me. Tessa has also had her fair share of run-ins with shady characters. She’s a pure spirit, just like you. But her background was cruel and unfair, just like mine. And it got her and her sister into a lot of terrible situations with some people who could really hold a grudge. So, I guess it could be someone like that, but I… I don’t know. I really don’t know, and the truth is, until the person or people that’s holding us reveal themselves, we are stuck. We are completely and utterly trapped in this room.
[ Loudly ] Which is getting really old! Was this because of something i did? Is this about tessa? Can you please just tell me why you are doing this?! What did I do?!
Abby: Thank you.
Devon: You’re welcome. Listen — I know that this whole situation is frustrating, and it’s stressing you out, but we have to believe that whatever’s going through mariah’s head, she’s still taking care of herself and the baby.
Abby: Yeah, I do, too. It’s just my motherly instinct is kicking in, and I just feel helpless. I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I keep coming over here. I’m laying all of this on you. But, obviously, chance isn’t here for me to lean on.
Devon: I know. Don’t ever apologize for that, and that’s why I’m here. Alright? You haven’t talked to him at all lately?
Abby: No. Look — I knew what I was signing up for when I married him. I knew who he was. You know, he’s noble and responsible, and he’s always doing the right thing. And I can’t blame him for being who he is.
Devon: No, but you’re still entitled to have your feelings. If you need to get them out, I’m not gonna judge you.
Abby: Thank you. No, I’m not just frustrated about mariah and the baby, you know? It’s chance, too. He’s been gone for so long, and I haven’t been able to talk to him or hold him, and he was always so good at calming me down and reassuring me. And now he’s out there, doing whatever, and I am facing everything alone.
Devon: Hey. You know better than to say that. You’re not alone, abby. You have a lot of people in your corner.
Abby: I know. Thank you. I know I have great family and friends, and I thank god every day for that. But…no, chance is my husband, and this child was our dream. And it feels really wrong to be going through all of this without him. And I don’t know. I don’t know why he can’t call me. God, I don’t even know where he is. He’s out there, protecting other people, when he should be here. He should be here, protecting his wife and baby. He should be here when I need him the most! He’s been gone for too long, and I need him to come home.
[ Sighs ] Super emma just about sleeps in her cape.
Phyllis: So, my conversation in los angeles bore some very interesting fruit. It seems that sally was maneuvering behind everyone’s back to get angelina marchetti to hire summer.
Jack: That is strange, since sally was also pursuing the job in milan. But that doesn’t mean there was anything malevolent in what she did.
Phyllis: Oh, god, you’re still protecting her, are you? I thought you kicked her to the curb.
Jack: It could have been an offhanded comment to eric forrester that was misconstrued. Besides, even if sally is guilty, I am fed up with all of these constant attacks against her.
Phyllis: Oh, my god, you are acting like she is an innocent victim, and I assure you she is not.
Jack: I don’t care. This has got to stop.
Phyllis: You won’t even consider the possibility, will you?
Jack: I’m done, phyllis. No more!
Phyllis: Yeah, there is more! Guess what? She admitted it. I confronted sally with what eric told me about her, and she admitted it.
Jack: What exactly does that mean?
Phyllis: She admitted that she and tara were working together to force my daughter out of town.
Billy: Let’s just be honest, okay? I am the lucky one in this relationship.
Lily: Yeah?
Billy: You make me feel like an older, wiser version of myself — not too old, of course.
Lily: No! Mnh-mnh.
Billy: Now, this peace that I’m feeling inside is — is really it’s all because of you. You inspire me. And I really think that’s why this feels so strong and right.
Lily: So, dare I say we have a mature — not old, no — kind of love?
Billy: You know, when you were talking about charlie and mattie earlier, it made me want to get to know them better. I know they don’t live near us right now, but I feel like it’s really important they know just how much I love and adore their mother.
Lily: I would love that. I know they would love that, too.
Billy: How about a family vacation? All of us, the whole clan? You think charlie and mattie would handle the little ones for a little vacation?
Lily: Yeah, of course! I mean, the twins would love them. But, I mean, that’s big step.
Billy: It is. It’s a step I want to take with you.
Tessa: Mariah is missing. I don’t know how you can be so nonchalant about this. I clearly wasted my time by coming here.
Sharon: Wait, no. Please don’t go. We are not dismissing how you feel, and you’re right. You know mariah better than anyone. She has been missing for a while, and she did miss a doctor’s appointment. That’s not like her. Not mentioning anything to jack or her coworkers, that’s even stranger.
Rey: Look — those are all legitimate points. But the evidence still points to the fact that mariah is choosing to stay away. So, it would be difficult for me to launch an official investigation.
Sharon: Well, I’m not saying this is an official police matter. Wherever mariah is, she shouldn’t go through this alone. She needs to be with her friends and her family and the woman who loves her. If you can’t help me as a cop, can you help me as my husband?
Tara: [ Sighs ]
Jack: Hello, tara.
Tara: Too bad harrison just left with the nanny. He built something out of blocks, and he really wanted grandpa to see it.
Jack: I’m sorry I missed that. I’ll have to ask him about it when I see him.
Tara: Rough day at work?
Jack: Actually, I’m not coming from the office. I just had a chat with phyllis.
Tara: [ Scoffs ] What is she claiming I did now?
Jack: Phyllis took a trip to los angeles to do some digging. She found out some information about sally and confronted her. Apparently, when sally felt backed into a corner, she confessed to everything.
Tara: Phyllis has proven that she will do anything and make anything up just to cause trouble, like she did with the fake text. So, if you ask me, it sounds like she’s the one backed into a corner, willing to do anything, just to prove this crazy theory. I sincerely hope you can see that, jack.
When you skip the rinse with
finish quantum,
Abby: I guess I did have some things I needed to get off my chest. Just, it feels so wrong saying all that. I mean, I have no right to be angry with chance.
Devon: I guarantee you that chance would completely understand what you’re going through, and he’d also be the first person to tell you that you’re doing a fantastic job at handling everything. I’m sure he wants nothing more than to be here by your side, and he’s gonna come home to you as soon as he possibly can.
Abby: How is it possible that you’re an even better friend now than you were before? You always know the right thing to say to reassure me. Promise me that you’ll always offer the same kind of comfort and reassurance and wisdom to our baby when he’s born.
Devon: How about I do one better, and I guarantee it?
Mariah: [ Crying ] Aaah! Sorry, bowie. I’m sorry. Oh! I’m not gonna lose my temper. I’m not gonna upset you. I need to protect you from my anger, from my fear.
[ Sighs ] Whoever is keeping us in here has to talk to us eventually. And once I get some facts, I can start working on a plan of how to get us out of here. I’m not giving up. Okay? I’m not giving up.
Jack: Sally told phyllis that the two of you worked together to get summer out of genoa city, that you wanted her out as much as sally did.
Tara: Well, either phyllis is lying or sally is, because that’s insane. So, take your pick between two seasoned liars.
Jack: Are you sure you’re not the one who’s lying here?
Tara: Why would I do that, after you and kyle have been so good to me and harrison?
Jack: I can’t answer that. I can tell you I know how tempting it is to do whatever it takes for your child. I understand going to extremes to protect your family.
Tara: So, what exactly are you implying?
Jack: Tara, I’m trying to help you out from under all of this before it explodes.
Phyllis: Profit and loss, where are you?
[ Tapping keyboard ]
Nick: How’d it go with jack?
Phyllis: Huh?! Yes, well, yep, I think he heard me, finally.
Nick: Alright. What were you doing on the computer just now?
Phyllis: Hotel things.
Nick: What did we just talk about? No more secrets. So, save us both some time and tell me what you’re really up to.
