Julie brings Jennifer a coffee in the living room of the Horton house. Jennifer thanks her and says she didn’t sleep much. Julie bets she knows why. Jennifer admits she was having a hard time believing that Chad could forgive Cat and be friends with her, but Chad being in an actual relationship with Cat feels like the worst betrayal as Julie hugs her.
Chad sits with Thomas in his room and notes that he doesn’t have a fever. Thomas doesn’t care and says he just doesn’t feel well. Chad agrees to let him stay home today but he has to go back to school tomorrow. Chad calls Thomas “buddy” but Thomas responds that he’s not his buddy anymore. Chad knows Thomas is upset about him dating Cat and says he’s so sorry that he found out how he did. Chad promises to fix this and make it right.
Jennifer tells Julie that she doesn’t have a problem with Chad moving on with his life, but questions why he has to move on with Cat. Jennifer talks about Thomas being so upset and hurt because Chad kept it secret from him. Jennifer adds that Thomas is angry like they all are because Cat deceived them in the worst possible way. Julie calls it very bad. Jennifer brings up that she’s supposed to be interviewing Julie about Tom, but she just doesn’t have it in her right now. Julie says she assumed that might be the case, so she sent for some backup.
Cat sits at home when she gets a text from Chad, saying they need to talk.
Julie tells Jennifer that she thought she might need some help as Jack arrives, which they call perfect timing. Jennifer hugs Jack and says she’s so glad he’s there. Julie thanks Jack. Jack tells Jennifer that Julie told him what happened, so he got the first flight out. Chad then comes downstairs and enters the room, greeting Jack. Chad says he told Thomas that he would make this right, so that’s what he’s going to do. Chad then exits the house. Jennifer thinks it’s too late for that.
JJ walks in to the town square and stares at the spot where he shot Theo as he grabs his badge. JJ flashes back to when he called Jennifer while planning to end his life. JJ then gets a call from Jada and confirms he just had his meeting with the department psychologist and they talked about what happened with Theo in the blackout and how it brought back the memory of shooting him. JJ agrees to continue therapy as he’s determined to get through this.
Julie thinks Jennifer is the most qualified writer in the world to tell Tom’s story. Jack agrees. Jennifer thanks them for having so much faith in her. Jennifer realizes it’s been 40 years since she came back to Salem. Jennifer recalls just looking for a temporary place, but she found a lifelong home. Jennifer jokes that she caused a lot of trouble when she first got there as she flashes back to stealing when she first got there. Jack doesn’t think he’s heard that story before. Jennifer flashes back to Tom and Alice advising her about school. Julie jokes that Jennifer is not the only grandchild who caused problems for Tom and Alice. Julie says they both had wild streaks but turned out pretty much alright. Jack encourages that Tom and Alice would be very proud of the women that Julie and Jennifer have become.
Chad goes to Cat’s apartment. Cat guesses things didn’t go so well with telling his family about them. Chad confirms it didn’t go well.
Julie brings out family scrapbooks to help with the interview. Jack opens one of the scrapbooks. Jennifer talks about how Tom and Alice always taught them to try and find the best in everyone and have forgiveness in their hearts and then she thought about Cat, who made them relive the most awful tragedy of their life. Jennifer declares that she can’t forgive Cat.
Chad informs Cat that Rachel did see them kissing at mini golf and told Thomas. Cat can’t believe Thomas found out like that instead of from Chad. Cat brings up that Thomas was okay with Chad dating Stephanie and questions why he reacted so differently to them dating. Chad explains that Thomas did like Cat until he talked to Rachel.
Jennifer begins interviewing Julie about Tom. Julie talks about Tom being a poet and how Alice kept some of his poems. Jennifer sees one that Tom wrote after her parents got divorced and flashes back to when Tom first read it to her. Julie talks about Tom seeing tons of patients at the hospital every day but when he came home, he always made time for them. Jack brings up Jennifer going to Alice for relationship advice which Jennifer says she was doing long before she met Jack. Jennifer talks about how her and Frankie weren’t meant to be, but she’s glad she took Alice’s advice and told him how she felt because it led her to her next chapter. Jennifer declares that all her mistakes led her to the man she was destined to be with in Jack. Julie believes in destiny and that the universe leads them to who is supposed to be their soulmate. Jack comments that Julie and Doug were certainly soulmates. Jennifer says so are they as she hugs Jack. They look through more of the scrapbook and find that Alice kept Jennifer’s very first story written for the Spectator. Jack says he remembers those days so well and that she knew she could do it. Jennifer recalls Jack being very skeptical of her writing at first as they flash back to their early days at the Spectator which they joke about now as they hug.
Cat doesn’t understand and asks what else Rachel told Thomas. Chad informs her that Rachel told Thomas that she was impersonating his mom when she first came to town, which she knows from living in the DiMera Mansion with her. Chad explains that they were playing Monopoly and Rachel was losing, so she wanted to get back at Thomas. Cat asks what Thomas said to him. Chad says that he told him he doesn’t understand how he could be with someone that pretended to be Abigail. Cat holds back tears and asks what happens now and where they go from here. Chad responds that he promised to make it right and there’s only one way he knows how to do that in order to regain Thomas’s trust. Cat says it’s okay and she knows that he’s going to say they can’t be together. Cat tells Chad that she gets it and understands that he has to put his kids first. Chad would like to say there could be a chance for them someday, but she’s already put things on hold for so long, so he doesn’t want to ask her to wait especially when he doesn’t know if that day is ever really going to come.
Jack calls it a miracle that he and Jennifer got it together enough to tie the knot and questions how many times he actually proposed before she finally said yes which they flash back to. Jennifer jokes that she fell hard for him eventually while Jack says he was glad to be there to catch her sort of as they flash back to more of their moments together, their eventual wedding, and the birth of Abigail. Jennifer says they were blessed with a perfect daughter. Jack says they still are in their hearts which they agree will be forever.
Cat wishes she could go back in time to meet Chad as herself and not pretending to be Abigail. Chad says if not for those awful circumstances, they would’ve never met and he’s grateful that they did and that he got to know the woman she is. Chad calls her beautiful and thanks her for making him feel something he didn’t think he would ever feel again. Cat cries that she’s really grateful to have had Chad in her life and experience his kindness in spite of everything. Cat tells Chad that he will always be in her heart. Chad responds that she will be in his.
JJ goes home and is surprised to see Jack, who says he just got in after Julie called him, thinking Jennifer could use some support after the news about Chad and Cat. Jennifer comes back in, surprised to see JJ as she thought he had to work. JJ says it was just a morning meeting and now he has the rest of the day off. Jennifer is glad as it gives them more family time together. JJ asks how Thomas is doing. Jennifer admits he’s terrible and didn’t even go to school today. JJ asks if Chad is around. Jack informs him that Chad left awhile ago to make things right, whatever that means. Jennifer says that means he’s with Cat Green as they speak.
Chad asks Cat to promise to stop being so hard on herself for what happened between them in the past. Chad wishes they could’ve kept going. Cat calls Chad the kindest human she’s ever met and she doesn’t think he’ll ever realize just how much he means to her. Chad knows he may have made it seem like this was easy for him, but it was really hard because he cares about her. Chad kisses Cat goodbye and then exits. Cat then starts to cry.
Julie announces she made a fresh pot of coffee and is then surprised to see JJ has joined them. JJ says he should let them get to work as he forgot Jennifer was interviewing Julie. Jennifer invites him to stay and says they got sidetracked with the scrapbook. Jack talks about how they went over how they met and got married. JJ jokes that it sounds like Jennifer’s kind of party where she’ll be passing out his baby photos. Jennifer brings up never telling the story of how they decided on JJ’s name. Jennifer says they’ll do that and then get to work. They flashback to being on a boat when they decided on JJ’s name. Jack explains that he first thought it would be egotistical to name his son after himself, but in hindsight he’s so glad they did because JJ does the name proud more than he ever did. Jack calls JJ kind, selfless, and a damn good police officer determined to serve and protect the community that their family has loved for so many generations. Jack knows Tom and Alice would be brimming with pride at what JJ has become, just like they are.
Cat sits at home, crying.
Thomas comes in to the living room and asks about them talking about Tom. Jennifer tells him about the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic. Thomas wishes he could’ve met Tom. Jennifer says they all have so many stories to tell. Jennifer brings up coming to live with Tom and Alice when she was just a little bit older than Thomas. Thomas questions her not living with her parents. Jennifer explains that her mom was sick and she didn’t get along with her dad, so she moved in with her grandparents and it was the best decision she could’ve made. Thomas asks if he can live with them. Chad then comes in with Charlotte, exciting Jack and Jennifer. Charlotte runs up to Jennifer. Jennifer hugs Charlotte and Thomas as she declares that she’s so happy to have the Hortons back together in the house.
