Jada calls JJ to check in at the town square. JJ tells her they are clearing the area by curfew. Jada asks if he needs more officers but JJ says they have got it. Jada finishes the call, telling JJ to let her know if there’s anything he needs as Paulina walks in to Jada’s office with Theo. Theo looks uncomfortable as he hears that Jada was on the phone with JJ.
Belle wakes up and says she hoped that being trapped in the elevator with EJ was a nightmare, but they are still here. EJ guesses they are low on the priorities for Salem’s first responders. Belle blames EJ and remarks that it’s like the universe is punishing her for getting involved with him in the first place.
Jada is glad Paulina made it in one piece. Paulina responds that Theo has been her personal bodyguard. Jada asks how things are at City Hall. Paulina says it’s a mess as she’s been dealing with the power company for hours but progress has been slow. Paulina realizes that she left her phone at her office, so Theo decides he will go get it. Paulina gives him her keys and advises him to be careful as he exits.
Chad and Cat lay together on the couch at Cat’s apartment after having sex. Cat tells Chad that she’s been dreaming of this for a long time and says it surpassed her expectations as they kiss. Cat asks how Chad felt, knowing it was a huge step for him. Chad assures he has no regrets and calls tonight perfect as they continue kissing.
Xander and Sarah kiss in bed. Sarah asks if she’s dreaming. Xander responds that if she is, he’s having the exact same dream as they continue kissing.
Cat tells Chad that this is the first time she’s been with someone since her car accident. Cat says recovering from all those surgeries made it hard to get close to people. Chad is honored that she trusted him. Chad adds that he had a hard time getting close to anyone since Abigail, but he feels like he can be himself with Cat. Cat asks who would have thought that it would be her that he could get close to after all the ways she hurt him. Chad stops her and reminds her that there’s no more fighting or denying their feelings for each other. Chad declares that tonight is about new beginnings.
EJ tries calling for an update, but is told they have to wait. EJ complains that they have already been waiting for hours. EJ argues that he pays his taxes and demands speedy emergency services. Belle tells EJ to leave them alone as they know this is not an emergency and EJ can’t control the universe, so he hangs up. EJ thought Belle couldn’t wait to get out. Belle says she can’t but throwing a tantrum with the 911 operator isn’t helping. EJ jokes that maybe Belle doesn’t hate being stuck with him as much as she pretends to. Belle throws his jacket back at him.
Paulina asks Jada about the looting situation. Jada says the officers were able to put a stop to it before it got out of hand. Paulina will never understand people taking advantage of a situation like this. Jada thinks they got it under control since Paulina put a curfew in place.
Theo walks through the town square in the dark until JJ unknowingly stops him and calls out to him to stop. JJ shouts that there’s a curfew in place and he can’t be out here. Theo stops in fear as JJ demands that he turn around. Theo slowly turns, triggering memories of their past.
Xander and Sarah eat ice cream together in bed. Sarah feels guilty about not going back to the hospital where they could use some extra hands. Xander is glad she decided to stay or all of this might not have happened. Xander feels like the luckiest man alive to be here with her like this as they kiss.
Chad finishes a call with Leo, saying he doubts the people of Salem will be happy and he’ll see him in the morning. Chad then informs Cat that according to Leo, the power outage may have been because of renovations at the hospital. Cat asks if he’s worried about EJ being blamed. Chad responds that he’s worried about who EJ will blame since he’s good at deflecting and warns Cat to stay out of EJ’s line of fire.
Belle’s phone dies as she comments on losing her Wordle streak. EJ offers her his phone but Belle declines. EJ remarks that if she was dying of thirst and he had a water bottle, she wouldn’t accept that either. Belle tells him to get it through his head that she wants nothing to do with him. EJ points out that she came to the hospital specifically to talk to him. Belle clarifies that she came to make sure John’s donation to the hospital was properly executed and it had nothing to do with him. EJ tells her to keep telling herself that.
JJ apologizes to Theo for not realizing it was him. Theo questions if that would’ve made a difference since he just immediately assumed he was up to no good. JJ brings up the curfew while Theo argues that he’s doing exactly what he did before, but it’s a good thing he didn’t have a gun this time or he could be dead right now. JJ argues that he wasn’t going to shoot him. Theo asks if he’s sure since it sounded like he was getting worked up. JJ says he didn’t turn around when he asked him to. Theo explains that hearing the sound of his voice made him freeze up because it reminded him of when JJ did shoot him. Theo accuses JJ of doing the same thing, seeing a black man and assuming the worst. JJ reminds him of the curfew. Theo says he knows about that and he always follows the rules. Theo explains that Paulina left her phone at City Hall, so he was on his way to go get it. JJ apologizes as he didn’t know that. Theo says that’s because he didn’t ask and just went with the most logical conclusion, so he does not accept JJ’s apology.
Paulina and Jada talk about the blackout. Paulina says it was a domino effect from a blown transformer and that the hospital renovation overloaded the system. They guess that EJ is to blame for this. Paulina remarks that EJ must have used some shortcut and they are all paying the price for it. Paulina argues that if she could prove it, she would make EJ pay for every penny.
Belle accuses EJ of having an ego while EJ argues that there’s an obvious mutual attraction between them that doesn’t go away no matter how hard they try to fight it. Belle admits maybe in the past, but then he threw her under the bus at Johnny’s trial with complete disregard for her career which killed any feeling she ever had for him. EJ tells her how sorry he was for that but Belle doesn’t care and says he blew it and ruined everything by being the ruthless jerk he always was. Belle says she deluded herself in to thinking EJ changed which is completely on her for being an idiot. EJ argues that she can be stubborn while Belle says EJ is the one who can’t accept things are over. Belle remarks that Sami was right about him, just like everyone she ever talked to about him. Belle says she didn’t listen and insisting there was a good side to EJ. Belle’s asthma then starts up again and she starts coughing.
Cat assures Chad that she will remain on EJ’s good side and notes that so far, he’s been perfectly pleasant which Chad is glad to hear. Cat talks about finding Julie intimidating. Chad jokes that Julie must have met her match being stuck in the dark with his two kids and Rachel. Chad brings up Rachel’s snake. Cat says she used to have one and they make great pets. Chad goes over her interests and says he’s intrigued and really wants to learn more.
Sarah tells Xander that she’s so glad they had this breakthrough as it feels like they are finally back on the right track, but notes they still have a lot of work to do. Xander assumes she means in couples therapy. Sarah thinks it’s important they give it a shot. Xander feels they are doing so well on their own, pointing out that they had sex three times in one night. Sarah says that sex has never been their problem, but being open and honest is another story. Xander wants to just start on a clean slate but Sarah reminds him that they agreed to couples therapy a few hours ago. Sarah questions why Xander is trying to back out and why he’s nervous. Xander admits he’s still worried since Sarah thought he was a monster and he doesn’t want to say anything in therapy that makes her think that way again. Sarah reminds him that she only thought that because she thought he beat up and Philip and says she was wrong about that. Sarah adds that he’s not the only one who will have to own up to mistakes, pointing out that she nearly ruined their marriage by keeping Philip’s secret from him. Xander questions why they have to rehash it all again in therapy. Sarah argues that they can’t ignore their problems, so if they want their marriage to work, this is how they have to do it. Sarah declares if he wants them to be together in a healthy way for the long term, this is how they are going to do it. Xander then agrees to it.
Chad calls Julie and thanks her again for watching the kids, hoping they weren’t too much trouble for her. Chad says he and Cat are just hanging out waiting for the power to come back on, claiming they are just playing board games. Chad tells Julie to be safe and hangs up. Cat hopes Julie gets some peace and quiet now that the kids are in bed. Chad mentions that Julie said she was worried about something as Thomas had been a bit off and strangely quiet, so he doesn’t know what that’s about. Cat suggests maybe he’s just missing his dad. Chad says he’ll have to ask him about it tomorrow.
Jada complains to Paulina that EJ never thinks the rules apply to him and they have to suffer because of it. Paulina says at least this time, he’s suffering too. Jada asks what she means. Paulina informs Jada that 911 dispatch has been receiving calls from EJ all night and he’s apparently stuck in an elevator at the hospital. Paulina then reveals that she knows because EJ made the dispatcher escalate his complaint to her office, so she told them to make EJ wait because they have more urgent matters to tend to. Jada guesses EJ being trapped in an elevator means he can’t do any more damage and they can all breathe easier…
EJ questions Belle having trouble breathing again. Belle blames EJ being him and his cologne, telling him to just get away from her as she starts to panic.
Theo tells JJ to excuse him as he’s going to City Hall. JJ asks to escort him but Theo says no. JJ asks if they can please talk about this more. Theo points out that JJ is working. JJ argues that this is important as Theo has been distant and weird ever since coming back to town, so he thought something might be wrong. Theo responds that something is wrong and has been for a long time. Theo asks if JJ didn’t think it was weird that he hadn’t heard from him since last Christmas. JJ figured he was busy but Theo shouts that he was pissed off and questions how he can possibly think it’s okay to be a cop again after what he did to him. Theo knows it’s JJ’s life and he can do whatever he wants, but he thought he was his friend. JJ says he is his friend, so Theo questions why he didn’t come talk to him before rejoining the force and if it didn’t occur to him that he might have a problem with it. JJ says it all happened so quick. Theo brings up that JJ told him he left the force because he didn’t have the judgment to be a cop anymore. Theo questions what changed. JJ swears he wouldn’t have rejoined the force if he didn’t think his judgment had improved. Theo remarks that based on tonight’s performance, he would say it hasn’t. Theo argues that he took a situation that could have been easily resolved, but his immediate instinct was to escalate it just like the night that JJ put a bullet in his chest.
Paulina wonders what’s taking Theo so long to come back and hopes he didn’t run in to any trouble. Jada offers her phone but Paulina doesn’t have his number memorized. Paulina suggests she could call Abe, but decides to give Theo a few more minutes. Jada asks if everything is alright with Theo and brings up that he came by her office this morning, but they are interrupted by the power coming back on.
Xander tells Sarah that a selfish part of him hopes the electricity never comes back on as it would be the perfect excuse for them to just stay here forever with just them and Victoria. Sarah admits that does sound nice and jokes that maybe if they wish hard enough, but then the electricity comes back on which they laugh about.
EJ asks Belle what he can do to help. Belle tells him to start by shutting up. EJ wants to call 911 again. Belle insists she has it under control. EJ still finds it odd that he had never seen her use an inhaler until tonight. Belle blames the tight space, EJ’s cologne, and stress all triggering tense emotions. EJ suggests thinking of the good times they had together. EJ asks what if he promises to accept they are over for good and if that will put her more at ease. The power then comes back on, relieving them.
Chad tells Cat that they should probably figure out how to move forward in terms of telling everyone about their relationship. Cat says she’s following his lead since he will be bearing the brunt of everything. Chad declares that after tonight, he doesn’t want to hide it or keep it a secret anymore which Cat says she’s okay with. Cat jokes that Felicity will be ecstatic. Chad says he will do his best with Thomas and Charlotte. Chad knows the rest of his family won’t take it well, but it’s better than sneaking around. Cat decides whatever happens, they will face it together. The power comes back on, so Chad says he should get home to Julie and the kids. Cat adds that Chanel will be dropping Felicity off any minute now. Chad guesses it’s back to reality. Cat never wants this night to end. Chad says it doesn’t have to as they are together now.
Xander and Sarah check on Victoria still sleeping. Xander asks if Sarah is leaving. Sarah figured since her car is no longer trapped in the garage, she should take Victoria home. Xander doesn’t think they should wake Victoria up and suggests they spend the night. Sarah admits she’d really like that as they kiss.
EJ and Belle escape from the elevator. EJ tells Belle to wait there and he’ll have a doctor check her out but Belle says the fresh air is making her feel better already, so she’s going to go home. They say goodnight as Belle then exits. EJ then gets a text from Gwen that the electrician screwed up and to call her.
Paulina reminds Jada that she was saying something about Theo coming to see her. Jada explains that he wanted to express concern about JJ coming back to the force. Theo then returns and declares tonight proved his concern was warranted. Paulina asks what happened. Theo says nothing happened this time but tells Jada to talk with JJ about racial profiling. Jada questions him but Theo says he’s tired and wants to go home, so Paulina exits with him.
JJ sits in the town square looking at his police badge.
