THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
[soft tense music]
Philip. What are you doing in bed on this glorious morning?
Oh, maybe because I was up half the night reading and rereading this letter.
Must you be so sensitive? Victor’s been gone for a long time, and he’s costing you sleep.
Yes, he is.
[sighs] Well, I’m not gonna let you waste the day away ruminating over your– your late father. We have more important things to do.
Oh. Xander, what a lovely surprise. I’m having my morning oolong. Would you like a cup?
I’ll pass, thanks.
I’d offer you some breakfast, but we’re fresh out of haggis. How about a scone?
I’m here to talk, Kristen.
Ooh. Well, then I am assuming that you and Philip have come to terms on allowing you to trade Titan for the serum. Did you get your brother to back off so that we could make the deal or not?
Afraid not. But…I have a better way to make that happen.
[soft music]
Guess he doesn’t want to talk. Mm, it’s still early. Maybe he’s in bed.
[chuckles]
Good morning.
Good morning.
So…that happened.
[laughs]
So you want to start over?
Good morning. I would like to introduce you to our new castmate who’s going to play our resident bad girl, Regan Holloway, okay? So Johnny, Chanel, let me introduce you to Joy Wesley. [tense music]
Johnny. Hi.
Uh– [clears throat] Joy.
I’m–I’m glad that I ran into you. You, um– you left this in my room last night.
Actually, we’ve already met.
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
[spluttering] I’m sorry, have we met?
Uh, Chanel and I have.
Oh.
It’s nice to see you again.
Yeah, same here. And I am not surprised you got the role, especially considering your audition. You killed it. And you only had the sides for, like, two minutes before. I read opposite Joy.
Oh, okay. Okay.
Are you on the show, too?
Well, uh– well, not as an actor. This is Johnny DiMera. He’s one of our directors.
Oh.
Hi. It’s, uh– it is nice to meet you.
You too.
Welcome to Pineview.
Thank you. And I appreciate you giving me such a warm welcome considering I’m here to steal your man. [laughter]
What time is it anyway?
It’s late, : a.m.
Oh, wait, but there’s the teacher in-service today. Right?
Yes, luckily. Otherwise, we would be in serious trouble. Speaking of, what are you gonna say to your dad when he sees I slept over? Or your grandparents?
I mean, my grandma goes to work super early, and my dad and grandpa must’ve just decided to let me sleep in and went out. Otherwise, one of them would have for sure knocked on the door by now.
So this was good timing.
Definitely. Um, Sophia, I just– I wanted to tell you that, um, when I invited you over, I–
You didn’t expect this to happen. Neither did I. But I’m glad it did. [soft music] Are you?
Holly.
Aunt Sarah, hi.
Hey. My mom said you were back from your trip.
Good to see you.
Oh, it’s good to see you too, honey. How–how did it go? How was your trip?
Ah, it was intense, to say the least.
Yeah. Yeah, I heard. It was a whole lot of drama.
With Chad, yeah. Crazy that woman was pretending to be Abigail.
Yeah, it really was. It really was. And just devastating for Chad and everyone that loved Abigail. So…I know you went to go and try to work things out with your mom. How did that go?
It was okay. Yeah, we had a good talk. I eventually realized that she and Eric didn’t intentionally mean to hurt me, that they thought they were doing the right thing by keeping the truth about my father’s death from me. So I forgave them.
Oh, honey, that makes me so happy. And not just for their sake, but for yours. And you know, I’m here anytime you want to talk about anything.
Thank you.
Mm-hmm.
So how are you doing? I heard Tate’s dad didn’t really cause the accident.
No, he didn’t. It was–it was Xander’s mother.
God, that’s crazy and awful. Xander must be a wreck over it.
Oh, yeah. Yeah, he was devastated. And then furious. Now he’s more motivated than ever to help me walk again. He’s doing everything he can to get his hands on that serum.
What serum? [tense music]
[sighs]
What things do we have to do?
We have to fortify our position to stop that oaf Xander from turning Titan over to the DiMeras.
Look, I’m having second thoughts about this, Viv.
Oh, no, for heaven’s sakes, don’t tell me you’ve decided to let that Scottish bastard control your birthright.
Hardly. If it were up to me, Xander would be rotting at the bottom of a lake next to my prosthetic leg. My reluctance has nothing to do with my half-wit half brother and all to do with his wife. I’m having second thoughts because of Sarah.
[sighs]
[sighs] All right, so… what is this better idea you have? And it better be good. Seems Philip is committed to blocking us from making this deal go through.
Yeah, well, no matter what that letter says, Victor left the family business to me. This injunction of Philip’s will never hold up in court.
[scoffs] You’re telling me that you’re gonna rely on the American justice system to get what you want?
Hardly. While I’m certain that a judge would ultimately rule in our favor, Philip appears to have the resources and the will to tie this up in the courts for years. And I’ll be damned if I’m gonna sit by and see Sarah spend another one of Victoria’s birthdays in that bloody wheelchair.
All right, so how do you propose we dispense of Philip’s objections and obstructions?
It’s simple.
Mm-hmm.
Philip has to die for real.
Yes, I’m really glad about what happened. I have no regrets.
That makes me so happy. [tender music] Was it okay?
Yeah, it was more than okay– for me. For you?
For me, too.
Good.
[phone beeps]
I should probably check that. Oh, no.
What?
[sighs] We have a problem. [tense music]
Wait, so Kristen DiMera has some miracle serum that could cure you, that could make you walk again?
Apparently.
Oh, my God, Sarah, that’s amazing. Wh-what’s wrong? Why don’t you seem happy about it?
[clears throat] Well, because she’s asking for something really huge in return.
And what is that?
That Xander hand over Titan.
[scoffs] Wow. That’s definitely huge.
Mm-hmm.
I take it Xander didn’t react too well to it?
Oh, God no. No, not at all. But then he agreed.
What?
Yeah. Over my strenuous objection. But it’s like I said, Xander would give anything to help me walk again.
Wow. Wow, so Xander’s really just gonna give his family business over to Kristen?
Well, he was. But then his brother showed up.
What on Earth does Maggie’s daughter have to do with this?
She has everything to do with this. Sarah is the sole reason Xander is willing to give Titan to Kristen. Without that serum, she’ll never walk again.
Oh, that.
“Oh, that.” [whistles] The woman is paralyzed.
Frankly, I think Xander’s brain is paralyzed. Why would he give up Titan for a small liquid vial that may not even work? [tense music]
So your proposal to grease the wheels of justice is to kill Philip?
Well, it certainly solves all of our problems. You get Titan. I get the serum. Everyone’s happy.
[laughing] Except Philip.
Who cares about him?
Maybe he is my brother, but he’s brought me nothing but grief.
[sighs] Still, I mean, this is a little drastic, don’t you think? Are you really prepared to murder your brother in cold blood?
[chuckles] No, of course not. But I’m pretty sure you are.
[laughs]
Well, I know Regan is gonna give me a run for my money with Arrow.
Oh, for sure. [both laugh]
All right, well, I’m not scared, girlfriend, so you better bring it.
Believe me, I will.
All right. And now, speaking as Chanel and not Faith– out of character– um, did you want to run lines?
Oh, well, actually, I need you back over at the studio ’cause there’s some great new outfits for Faith I’d like you to take a look at.
Mm, okay. Well, I best up my game with this new girl in town if I want to keep my man’s interest.
Well, and to that end, let’s get you into a fitting, don’t you think?
Uh, you know, Kate, could we actually just wait a second on that? Chanel and I were kind of in the middle of something.
Um, actually, no, I–I can’t. You know, these clothes are gonna shoot tomorrow, and as you well know, we’re on a very tight schedule. So, um, you know, if you do have free time, maybe you could show Joy around, though. That’d be good. [soft tense music]
So… [chuckles] Weird coincidence, huh?
What’s wrong?
My mom called Brianna’s house this morning looking for me.
You told her you slept over there?
Yeah. Luckily, Bri answered.
Okay, what’d she tell your mom?
That I was in the shower.
Right, well, at least she has your back.
Yeah, but I’m afraid that’s not gonna stall my mom for long. I need to deal with this.
Yeah, okay. Totally get it. While you do that, I’ll see if I can go find us something to eat. [soft jazzy music]
Mom. Hey. Uh, Brianna said you were looking for me?
[tense music]
Okay, so since Philip won’t let Xander give Titan to Kristen, she’s not giving you the serum you need to walk?
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.
Oh. That’s really harsh.
Yeah, I mean– [sighs] It is and it isn’t. Like, the idea that Xander’s gonna give up the entire Titan empire for a serum that may or may not work, it just feels like a bad move to me. And honestly, given our history with Kristen, I think anybody could see why I wouldn’t trust her.
No, I–I totally get that. But what if the serum did really work, and you missed your chance to take it?
Well, I mean, first of all, I wouldn’t– [laughs] I wouldn’t really know, you know, like, that I missed the chance. And truthfully, it’s been a few months, and I am starting to get the hang of the chair. And, you know, I have– I have bad days, and I have good days. But today’s a good one.
Yeah?
Yeah. Well, I-I’m just grateful for any day that I get to spend with my husband and my daughter and people I care about like you, little old you.
You have such a great attitude.
Not always. [laughter] Truly, but I do try to stay positive most of the time. But right now, my biggest problem is worrying about Xander. He’s just–he really is willing to give anything for me to walk again, just getting his hands on that serum.
[laughs] Okay. You want me to kill Philip?
Unless you want him to kill our deal. You do want Titan, don’t you?
Ah, yes, just as much as you want that serum. Why don’t you do the honor?
Oh, come on, Kristen. You know as well as I do that even the Salem PD will be able to work out that Philip was blocking this deal. They’ll be knocking on my door before his body’s even cold.
Same is true with me, too. I have just as much reason to get rid of Philip as you do.
[sighs] Fine. Well, then consider it payback.
For what?
You’ve asked me to kill more than a few people for you. So under the heading of turnabout being fair play… [tense music]
Sarah Horton made her own bed when she crawled into it with that miscreant.
You and that soft heart of yours.
Not to mention that Titan belongs to you.
That’s not entirely true.
Well, it is.
Right here, it’s Victor’s intention, black and white.
So Estelle should be up with your new wardrobe in a few minutes.
Great. I can’t wait to see it.
You know, um, I heard about what happened at Johnny’s birthday party. I am so sorry that it didn’t go well.
Oh, yeah, that is putting it mildly. So you heard what happened, that my idiot husband accused me of having an affair with Alex.
[sighs] I heard.
And you probably also heard that it is because he saw Alex having sex with someone that he assumed was me, but really, it was Stephanie.
Yes, I heard that too, and I nearly fired both of them because of it.
Really?
Yes. But I decided to give them a second chance. And I’m hoping maybe you can give Johnny the same.
Well, this is funny, huh? Not funny, ha ha. Just–I mean, I didn’t even know you were working on the show.
Yeah, and I had no idea you were even auditioning for it. Why–why didn’t you, uh, mention that when we met?
I didn’t really tell anybody. I didn’t want to jinx it. But look, I mean, it’s not a big deal. And I definitely didn’t forget that you’re married. And I certainly wouldn’t say anything in front of your boss and one of the other actors.
Yeah, that’s not just, um– she’s not just one of the other actors. That’s my wife.
Wait, Chanel is your wife? Man, I wish you would’ve told me. Then I wouldn’t have been so nice to her if I knew she was the one cheating on you.
Yeah, about that. Actually, she didn’t cheat on me. It turns out I just made a really big mistake.
So you think I should give Johnny a second chance?
I do.
Is this because you’re trying to keep drama off of your set?
Mm, partly. But I also have a soft spot for Johnny.
Yeah, I know that you were married to his grandfather, Stefano.
Mm-hmm. Quite a while ago. But I remember it so vividly, Johnny running through his nonno’s house. He was such a sweet boy, Chanel.
Well, that sweet boy called me a cheating slut.
[sighs] I know. It’s horrible. And you have absolutely every reason to be angry about that. I know that I would be. [sighs] But– and I don’t mean this as any excuse for his behavior or his disrespect– but in my experience, men have a tendency to let their jealousy just overwhelm them.
Yeah, I can only imagine how Stefano behaved when he was jealous.
Yeah, well, seriously, I doubt you can, because he was a very special case. But we’ll leave that for another time. I’m really thinking about my son, about Philip… [sighs] Who was insanely, insanely jealous about Chloe, about any time that she would spend with Brady Black. I mean, he went through this– down this rabbit hole of just delusion. He almost completely lost his sanity. And Brady almost lost his freedom. So you know, I guess my point is that Johnny– he let his jealousy get the better of him for sure. And he consequently hurt you really badly. But he did not go to the crazy extremes that my son did, that he could have gone to. You know, I think maybe– maybe there’s a possibility that you could forgive him? Maybe? Maybe give him a second chance? [soft music]
So the secret your wife was keeping from you wasn’t that she was having an affair? It was that she was throwing you a surprise party?
Yep.
But you said you walked in on her having sex with some other guy.
I know. I couldn’t see the woman clearly, and I– I thought it was, and my jealousy just got the better of me, and I jumped to the wrong conclusion.
So your wife never cheated on you?
She didn’t.
Well, I guess it’s a good thing you didn’t confront her about it.
Actually, I did. Yeah. And, uh, I didn’t let her get a word in to explain the situation until after I had already said some horrible and nasty things to her.
Oh, boy.
In fact, I was just, uh, begging for her forgiveness as you walked up.
Right. Well, I guess if you figured this out sooner, you probably wouldn’t have come back to my hotel room with me. [laughs]
It’s not that simple, Vivian. And you know it.
Oh, please. It couldn’t be more simple.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know what you’re gonna say, that this is not only what Victor wanted, but what I’d have gotten had I not let my obsession with Chloe Lane consume me.
Exactly.
And, of course, I never would’ve faked my own death if that “vapid woman” hadn’t led me on so mercilessly.
Absolutely right.
Now, lucky for me that amazingly loyal and brave you, a.k.a. Vivian Alamain, came to the rescue, showed up just in time to stop me from taking yet another bite from that poisonous apple.
Exactly.
Did I get that right?
Yes, you did.
I’m sorry, Xander. I do want Titan, but not bad enough to kill for it.
So we’re right back where we started.
Yep, I suppose we are. So you are gonna have to come up with another way to cut Philip off at the knees. That is, if you truly want your wife to walk again.
Well, false alarm. Victoria was just talking in her sleep.
Aw. Does she do that a lot?
She does. It’s so cute. [laughs] You waiting on a phone call?
Yeah, or a text.
From?
Doesn’t matter. You don’t need to hear about my Tate drama.
Are you kidding me? I want to hear about your Tate drama. It’s a welcome distraction as long as it doesn’t have anything to do with alcoholic mothers-in-law.
Actually, it kind of does have to do with your accident. See, when I thought Tate’s dad was at fault, I got super upset– for you, of course, but also because Eric was responsible for my dad’s death. So I was pretty harsh on Brady, said and did some things I regret. And Tate and I ended up breaking up.
Yeah, my mom told me.
Anyway, Grandma, she encouraged me to reach out to Tate last night. So I texted him asking if he wanted to talk.
Did you talk?
No, not yet. And we might not ever. He hasn’t gotten back to me yet.
Well, um, maybe he, uh, didn’t see the text? You try calling him?
Mm–mm, no. I actually did something even more radical. I went over to his house.
Very radical.
Yeah. [laughs] But nobody answered the door, so…
But maybe he was out.
Yeah. Or maybe he just doesn’t want anything to do with me anymore.
Crisis averted. I told my mom Brianna’s mom was making us eggs Benedict.
I don’t suppose you know how to make that, do you? Tate, is something wrong?
Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everything’s cool. Except that I honestly have no idea how to make an eggs Benedict. But would you settle for a bowl of frosted honey pops?
That’s okay. I really should go. The longer I wait, the greater the chance my mom calls Brianna’s mother, which would obviously not be a good thing.
[laughs]
I had a really nice time last night.
Yeah. So did I. [tender music]
See you later.
Definitely.
[soft dramatic music]
Oh, honey, just try your hardest not to jump to conclusions. You and Tate were really close for a while. I’m sure that he’s gonna be open to talking to you and trying to work things out.
I hope so. I just wish he’d text me back. [phone beeping] Oh, my God. It’s from Tate.
What does it say?
“Hey, I just got this.”
Listen, uh, about the other night, can we just forget that ever happened?
That would definitely be best considering we’re gonna be working together.
Right. You didn’t–you didn’t tell anyone, right?
No. I mean, my mom did find your wedding ring. But you don’t have to worry. I didn’t tell her your name or anything about you.
[sighs] Okay. Well, um, look, thank you. I appreciate your discretion. My wife can’t find out about this.
And I know it’s selfish, but I also need my favorite director and lead actress to get along.
I understand that–
The thing is, our show hasn’t even aired yet, and we’ve had more than our share of scandals. I mean, it’s crazy. The last thing I need is another person storming through that door with yet another problem.
Kate! You need to tell that idiot son of yours that if he knows what’s good for him, he’ll stop trying to kill my deal.
If we’re gonna block this deal, you need to get dressed immediately.
I’d like to do just that if you wouldn’t mind giving me a little privacy.
Oh, please. I carried you in my womb for nine months until you emerged naked and glorious.
Going forward, that’s an image I request you never reference again. [whimsical music]
I have absolutely no idea of what you’re talking about.
Your son didn’t come to you crowing about the letter Victor left for him, how he came back to Salem to stake some bogus claim to Titan just to block my deal?
Philip’s in town?
He’s at the Salem Inn.
[laughs] Sorry, I can’t believe that.
Oh, I think you can. I know you’re so busy with your little soap opera. But that wouldn’t stop you from having a hand in producing this drama. And certainly Philip doesn’t have the brains or the guts to make a move like this alone.
Okay, this is the first time I’m hearing any of this, all right?
You know what? I don’t care if it’s you or if someone else pulling Philip’s strings. You just get your son to back off, all right? Chanel.
Don’t worry. What happened between us the other night will stay our little secret.
Chanel!
Hey. Didn’t realize you two were married to each other.
Oh, yeah, I think that’s because Kate is trying to keep all personal relationships between cast and crew kind of quiet.
I get that. Yeah, no, keep the drama on camera, right? But, you know, this guy really loves you. You know, all we did was talk about you while you were checking out your new wardrobe. [laughs] Uh, thank you for showing me around.
Yeah, no problem. So, um, how did your fitting go?
Great.
Yeah?
Yeah. And, uh, I also had a long talk with Kate and Johnny. I decided to forgive you.
You did? Oh, my God. Chanel, you have no idea how happy this makes me.
Don’t get too excited, all right? You are on probation. So you better not do anything else to screw this up. – Can we hang out and spend some time together like we used to before all this craziness happened?
I’d love that. I’ve missed you, Holly.
I missed you so much. [laughs] [tender music] [knocking on door]
Hey.
Hey.
You want to come in?
Yeah. Thanks.
I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your text last night. I just saw it this morning.
No, it’s okay. I take it you were busy then.
Holly, there’s something that I need to tell you. [soft dramatic music]
So this is the second time that Philip has shown up in Salem without informing his mother. Let’s see how he feels about me showing up without announcing myself. Guess who!
[sighs] Let’s hope your ex-wife can talk your stupid son Philip out of blocking my deal. Because if Kate can’t stop him, and Kristen won’t, then I just may have to kill the son of a bitch myself.
