Marlena: Oh. For me?
John: No. No, actually, I’m just waiting for my date to arrive.
Marlena: Oh. What is she like?
John: She’s brilliant. She’S… she’s caring and stunningly beautiful.
Marlena: Oh, I don’t know anybody like that.
[Sentimental music]
What is the occasion?
John: Date night. Pretty lady. It’s been far too long.
Paulina: Just the two people I wanted to see! Mind if I join you?
[Tense jazzy music]
Kayla: What are you doing?
Steve: I’m making sure this thing is in perfect working order.
Kayla: Why?
Steve: Because I’m going with stephanie to her meeting with that mystery client tonight.
Stephanie: The hell you are.
[Tense music]
Ava: Harold said you wanted to see me?
Ej: Yes. There is something we need to discuss.
Ava: Well, obviously, since you had me summoned. And for future reference, I don’t like to be summoned.
Ej: Duly noted.
Ava: I’m busy. You want to get to the point?
Ej: Very well. I want to know why you’re trying to seduce my son.
[Tense music]
Li: Are you still thinking about stefan?
Gabi: Not exactly. Just… I can’t get that thing that rolf said out of my mind. If I knew what he was able to achieve, I’d be on my knees to thank him? What do you think he meant by that?
Li: Who knows with that maniac?
Gabi: He also said I was showing my ignorance of his power, so I just–I can’t help but think… what if he managed to do something I should know about?
[Monitor beeping]
Rolf: Finally!
[Dramatic music]
My god, stefan. You’re awake. I didn’t expect you to regain consciousness. It’s too soon.
Stefan: [Grunts]
[Panting]
Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”
[Soft orchestration]
Paulina: I hope you don’t mind me intruding on your little date night.
John: Well–
Marlena: I–
Paulina: Well, this is important.
Marlena: All right. What is it, paulina?
Paulina: You are two of abe’s closest friends, and I need your help.
Marlena: Of course. We’re very close to abe, and we’d do anything that we can. Is there something wrong?
John: He hasn’t mentioned anything to me.
Paulina: Well, he wouldn’T. Which is why I have to. I’ve done as much as I can. Time for his friends to step up.
Marlena: Step up to what?
Paulina: You need to convince him to run for governor.
John: You want abe to run for governor?
Paulina: Yes, but he is being stubbornly resistant.
Marlena: Well, running for office is a– is a very big decision, you know? It can certainly change somebody’s life.
John: Yeah, yeah. You know, if abe doesn’t run for governor, I’m sure he’s got some pretty good reasons.
Paulina: I’m not so sure about that. Like all men, sometimes abe can’t see what’s staring him right in the face.
Marlena: Which is what?
Paulina: That he could actually win! All the focus groups love him. He’s at the top of every straw poll, and he’d do an incredible job, so what’s the problem?
John: Well, paulina, with all due respect… the problem is you.
[Tense jazz music]
Steve: Okay. Stephanie, we’ve been through this. You’re my daughter, and you’re–
Stephanie: Thanks for reminding me.
Steve: You’re my daughter, and you’re about to walk into a trap. And I’m not gonna let that happen.
Stephanie: And I told you that I can take care of myself, and I trust the person who set up this meeting.
Steve: Well, I don’T.
Stephanie: Well, I don’t care, and if you come charging down there, you’re gonna blow this deal. What’s the client gonna say when my dad shows up with a loaded gun?
Steve: It’s not a client. It’s orpheus.
Stephanie: You don’t know that.
Steve: You don’t know that it’s not him. You don’t even have the name of the person you’re meeting with. You’re with me on this, right, kayla?
Kayla: Do you really believe it’s orpheus?
Steve: Yes I do. You know that he was planning and threatening to travel to seattle, because he knows full well that our kids live there. And do I have to mention the yellow roses?
Stephanie: Oh, yes. Let’s call the fbi because someone sent mom yellow roses.
Steve: Not just someone. Orpheus!
Stephanie: You realize how paranoid you sound, right? Do we need to talk about how you freaked out when the alarm system was tripped?
Steve: Can you blame me?
Stephanie: You pointed a gun in my face. You could have killed me!
Steve: And I told you I’m very sorry for that. Now, listen, I don’t deny that I’m extra vigilant when it comes to orpheus, but you don’t understand how dangerous he is. You know that he kidnapped your mother and marlena, sealed them in coffins, and set ’em on fire. John and I got there just in the nick of time. I’m not gonna let him do something like that to you.
[Tense music]
Ava: What did you just say?
Ej: I happened to be walking down the hallway, past your bedroom, earlier, after our difference of opinion.
Ava: Oh, you mean when you threatened to call the cops with your wild theory that I helped gwen escape from prison.
Ej: It’s not a theory, ava. I heard you admit it, but let’s not get into that again.
Ava: Yeah let’s not.
Ej: The point is I saw you and johnny sitting on your bed. He was holding you.
Ava: I was upset. He comforted me.
Ej: Look, I know that you’ve been lonely, ever since you lost your husband.
Ava: Thanks for your sympathy.
Ej: I’m just saying that it doesn’t justify a woman your age going after a man who’s young enough to be her son. Frankly, it makes you look pathetic.
[Tense music]
Li: Rolf’s an egomaniac.
Gabi: He’s also a genius.
Li: Hmm. He certainly thinks so. But you wounded his pride, so now he’s desperate to prove himself.
Gabi: Yeah, but how? What is this project he’s working on?
Li: He’s always got some crazy project on the horizon, always talking about his work. His work. Delusions of grandeur, if you ask me.
Gabi: That still doesn’t explain what this project is.
Li: Do you really care? It’s all madness. Did you know, years ago, I heard a rumor he made an army of marlena evans clones?
Gabi: Seriously?
Li: I wouldn’t put it past him. If I were cloning someone, I’d start with you, but hey. I’m biased.
Gabi: So you’re not concerned about what he’s up to?
Li: I’m sure he has dozens of wild schemes in his head. Doesn’t mean any of them will ever come to fruition. I don’t think you need to worry about him.
Gabi: Okay. Well, then I’ll just take worrying about a mad scientist off my list.
Li: Glad to hear it.
Gabi: You’re always so reassuring, and I always feel so great afterwards.
Li: Anytime.
Gabi: So should we go have dinner?
Li: Maybe later. Right now, I have some more… reassuring to do.
[Suspenseful music]
[Monitor beeping]
Rolf: Don’t do that, stefan! No! You could hurt yourself. You really should be under sedation. You’re in no condition to get out of the bed! What you need to do is–
Stefan: You don’t tell me what to do!
[Breathing heavily] I am stefan octavius dimera. I tell you what to do!
[Dramatic music]
Kayla: Well, you know you both have a point, but stephanie, you must admit that it is a little suspicious that your client hasn’t revealed their identity.
Stephanie: And like I told dad, it happens all the time in my business. Maybe they don’t want it getting out there that they’re in the market for my services.
Kayla: I understand that.
Stephanie: Then you understand that if dad shows up, they’ll decide I can’t be trusted, and there goes the job.
Steve: Listen, I’m not gonna come in there guns blazing. And if it turns out it’s legit, I’ll turn around, and walk away, and leave you to it.
Kayla: That sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? But if it’s orpheus, then–
Steve: If it is orpheus, believe me, you’ll be glad I’m there.
Stephanie: You’re not listening to a word I say. You treat me like I’m still a child. I can’t live this way.
Kayla: Stephanie, we do not think of you as a child. Isn’t that right, steve?
Steve: Of course not, but I’m not gonna apologize for trying to protect our daughter.
Stephanie: I don’t need an apology. I need you to back off and let me live my life.
Steve: Okay.
Kayla: Where are you going?
Steve: To take a walk.
[Tense music]
Paulina: Okay. I get it. I know why you think I’m the problem. Price town. I was gonna tear down this very square and create a heck of a lot of problems for abe, in the process, but people have a short attention span nowadays. They’re over it.
John: Paulina, paulina, I’m not talking about price town.
Paulina: You weren’t?
John: No. I’m talking about abraham and the life that the two of you are building together.
Paulina: What about it?
John: Abe loves salem. All of his friends are here, and this is home. Now, you take him and put him out on the campaign trail for months on end, and then he packs up, and moves up to the capital. He’s gonna miss all of his friends here desperately, and we’re gonna miss him.
Marlena: And we’d miss you too.
Paulina: Well, thank you, but you didn’t say that his friends were the problem. You said I am.
John: Abe’s my buddy. He’s the best man I know, and we watched abe as he– as he grieved and he suffered when he lost lexie all those years ago. And I know that a part of him never got over that, and you know what he did? He just threw himself into his kids and his work. But now, theo and lani, they’re no longer living close by. But… paulina, he has finally found real happiness with you, so why not just let him enjoy that?
Ej: Was that really necessary?
Ava: Yeah. Yeah it was, and it felt good.
Ej: Oh, you’re not sensitive about your age, are you, ava?
Ava: Oh, go to hell, ej. What you saw between me and johnny was two people being kind to one another. Something you wouldn’t understand.
Ej: Being kind? Is that what we’re calling it now?
Ava: Johnny stopped in to my room to see if I was okay after he watched his father treat me like dirt. My husband died. I am still grieving, and all you care about is getting your hands on jake’s shares so you can vote gabi out.
Ej: I have a responsibility to my family.
Ava: Yeah. Yeah, you keep telling yourself that, but you know what? I’m glad this all came out and you showed your true colors.
Ej: Oh, yeah? And what are my true colors?
Ava: Oh, you’re a snake. Accusing me of helping gwen escape prison, to murder abigail. Threatening to call the cops. Oh, ordering me to move out if I don’t hand over my shares of dimera. You don’t give a damn about your family. Your brother died. You didn’t even blink.
Ej: I barely knew the man. He was nothing to me, and neither was his twin brother, stefan.
Stefan: What the hell am I doing here?
Rolf: Relax.
Stefan: You don’t tell me what to do! You work for me!
Rolf: Yes. Yes. Of course I do.
Stefan: Then answer my question.
[Panting] Where am I? Why am I here?!
Rolf: You’re in a medical facility in salem, recovering from a very serious injury.
Stefan: What kind of an injury?
Rolf: As a matter of fact, you were shot.
Stefan: Shot. How?
Rolf: Some people were trying to kill your mother. You dove in front of the bullet.
Stefan: My mother.
Rolf: Do you remember that, stefan? Do you remember anything about it at all?
When moderate to severe
ulcerative colitis persists…
Paulina: You don’t think that abe and I would be happy being the governor and first lady of the state?
John: I just think that you need to give him the space to decide for himself.
Paulina: Well, I am giving him space. That’s why I’m stepping back, and I want you two to convince him.
John: Well, in all honesty, I don’t feel real comfortable about that.
Steve: Hey, guys.
John: Hey.
Steve: Listen, I’m sorry to interrupt. John, can I talk to you in private? It’s kinda urgent.
John: Yeah. Of course. Hold on. Excuse me, ladies. I’ll be right back. What’s going on, partner?
Steve: I need your help. I’m afraid orpheus is going after my daughter.
John: [Sighs]
Paulina: I see that look on your face. You think I’m being selfish, don’t you, for wanting abe to be governor? For pushing this?
Marlena: I think it depends on why you’re pushing it.
Paulina: Because I think it would be great for abe. Marlena, since lani left, I can see that he’s been feeling a bit lost. He needs something bigger in his life. Something to work for, and I’m not gonna just drag him away from salem or his friends. We’ll be back all the time. Well, don’t you think it’s even worth considering?
Marlena: I think that you and abe need to sit down and talk about this together. See what you both want, and make that decision together.
Paulina: You mean, like, no more accosting his friends when they’re out on dates?
Marlena: Hmm. Like that.
Paulina: And thank you for the advice. It’s just it’s hard for me sometimes, you know? When I want something bad, I tend to go after it with a vengeance. I guess you could either call it determined or… raw pain in the ass.
Marlena: I think you are a strong, confident woman. I think abe is a strong, confident man, and I think when you sit down together you will decide what’s right for both of you.
Stefan: [Grunts] I-I need to get the hell out of here!
Rolf: That would be a mistake. You could have a setback. You need more time to heal. Allow me to sedate you.
Stefan: No! No. I don’t need to be sedated. What I need is to find out what the hell happened to me!
Rolf: I told you. You took a bullet meant for your mother.
Stefan: Who shot the gun?
Rolf: The police. You were trying to help her escape salem, but she was caught and cornered. You heroically dove in front of the bullet to save her. Do you remember that, stefan?
Stefan: [Panting]
[Gunshot] It’s starting to come back.
[Panting] When was that? How long have I been in here?
Rolf: Four years.
Stefan: [Panting] Four– four years? I have been in this bed for four years?
Rolf: I’m sorry you had to find out this way.
Stefan: I don’t understand.
[Panting] What was I, in a coma?
Rolf: No. It wasn’t a coma.
Stefan: Then what!
Rolf: You were dead.
[Tense music]
Li: Hmm. How are you feeling?
Gabi: I’m feeling very reassured.
Li: Good.
Gabi: I’m starving. Should I call room service?
[Cell phone rings] Better get this.
[Cell phone beeps] Yeah?
Ava: You never got back to me about that job you offered.
Gabi: Didn’t I?
Ava: No, and I think it’s time we finalize the terms.
Gabi: Well, right now is not the best time.
Ava: I don’t care. I am here with ej, who is trying his damnedest to get me to turn on you. Every time I cross him in the hallway, morning, noon, or night it’s, “how do we get rid of gabi?”
Gabi: He’s standing right there?
Ava: Oh, he sure is. I want you to come for dinner.
Gabi: Now?
Ava: Yeah. I’ll have harold make us something nice and we can talk this over like adults.
Gabi: Like I said, it’s not a good time.
Ava: Oh, gabi, this is happening. With or without you. But trust me, you definitely want to be here for this.
[Cell phone beeps]
Ej: Before she arrives, we should discuss–
Ava: Anything that you want to say to me you can say in front of gabi. I’m gonna go plan the menu now.
[Tense music]
From prom dresses
Kayla: Stephanie, your father’s just worried about you.
Stephanie: He’s allowed to worry, but he’s not allowed to take over my life. What’s he gonna do? Follow me everywhere I go? Come along on dates?
Kayla: Okay. Now who’s being paranoid?
Stephanie: I knew this was gonna be an issue when I came back here, but I didn’t think it was going to get in the way of my business.
Kayla: Stephanie, do you think maybe we could just not make a big issue of this?
Stephanie: It is a big issue, mom. I don’t need his protection. I’ve been taking care of myself for a long time, and I’m not gonna stop just because dad wants to keep me in a box.
Steve: I’m–I’m sorry I took him away from you.
Marlena: Thanks. Is everything okay?
Steve: Yeah. We’re working on it.
John: You haven’t ordered yet, have you?
Marlena: No. I was waiting for you.
John: Well, great. Great, because steve just invited us over to his house for dinner.
Marlena: Oh. Is that what you had to discuss privately? Is that what was so urgent?
Steve: I just didn’t want paulina to feel left out.
Marlena: Does kayla know about the invitation?
Steve: I can text her on the way. You know, stephanie hasn’t seen the two of you, since she came back home. She’s gonna be really happy to see you.
John: Nice, nice. What do you say, doc?
Marlena: If it’s what you want, sure.
John: All right. Let’s do it.
[Sentimental acoustic music]
Stefan: What do you mean I was dead?
Rolf: The bullet that penetrated the cervical portion of your neck killed you. After it was over, your heart was removed and donated to someone else.
Stefan: I’m not sure I follow what you’re saying.
Rolf: Don’t worry. I took care of everything from the start. As you can see, you are very much alive.
[Mysterious music]
Stefan: My heart. It’s beating. But you said it was removed.
Rolf: Yes. You have a new heart now.
Stefan: What?
Rolf: I know it sounds unusual, but I was the one that kept you alive after your wife authorized the donation.
Stefan: My wife.
Gabi.
Li: Gabi, come on. You don’t need to go over to the dimeras.
Gabi: Well, I gotta keep ava happy.
Li: Actually, you don’T. We’ve talked about this. Ava can’t flip on you, or you’ll reveal that her marriage to jake is a sham.
Gabi: It sounds like she’s trying to choose between me and ej.
Li: Mm. It’s a bad precedent to let her think you’ll just drop everything and run over there every time she threatens you.
Gabi: I mean, she’s right though. I haven’T. I haven’t moved forward with the job offer.
Li: So what? She’s not gonna throw away this opportunity just because you’re playing hardball.
Gabi: But she’s with ej every day. You know, he can be very convincing when he wants to be.
Li: Hmm. How about I go with you in case you need backup?
Gabi: Thank you. I appreciate the offer, but I just don’t want ava to know that you’re aware that her marriage to jake was a sham, so just trust me, all right?
Li: Okay. Just… be careful.
Gabi: I got this.
[Tense music]
Ej: Montrachet?
Ava: Yeah. Harold helped me pick it out to go with the shrimp appetizer and the lobster main course.
[Chuckles]
[Tense music]
Is there a problem?
Ej: It’s the most expensive wine in my cellar.
Ava: Oh.
Ej: What the hell are you doing?
Ava: Mmm. That is tasty.
Ej: Oh, you’re awfully easy with my money, are you?
Ava: It’s the family money, eh? I mean I am a dimera, as you well know.
Ej: And be careful with those. Those crystal glasses are family heirlooms.
Ava: Oh, yeah?
[Glass shatters] Oops.
Ej: What the hell? Are you insane?
Ava: Oh. Well, let’s see.
[Tense music]
After trying lots of things to manage her
[Tense music]
Gabi: Harold let me in. Am I interrupting?
Ava: No. Not at all. Watch out for the broken glass.
Gabi: What happened?
Ej: Ava’s hand slipped.
Ava: Yeah. I can be such a klutz sometimes.
Gabi: So what am i doing here?
Ava: You’re joining me for dinner. We have a lot of dimera business to discuss.
Gabi: Do we?
Ava: Yes. Oh, and since you don’t have any role at the company right now, what gabi and I have to talk about doesn’t concern you. You can leave.
Stefan: Where is she? Where is gabi?
Rolf: Don’t worry about her.
Stefan: [Panting] She’s my wife!
Rolf: And she has no idea of your situation.
Stefan: What do you mean my situation?
Rolf: You here.
Stefan: [Panting] What are you saying? That she doesn’t know I’m alive?
Rolf: We’ll deal with that, in due time. But now, you need to lie down–
Stefan: No, no, no. My wife has just spent the last four years believing that I am dead, and you want me to lie down?
Rolf: There’s plenty of time to make things right, but as I said, you don’t want to risk further injury. I’ll prepare another injection.
Stefan: No, no, no, no! You stay away from that, and stay away from me. I need to get home to my wife!
[Panting]
Steve: We’re here.
Kayla: Oh, hi. Hey!
Stephanie: Marlena! John!
Marlena: Oh, my gosh. Look at you. Oh, my gosh. How good to see you.
John: There she is. Come here. Come here. Oh, welcome home.
Kayla: Well, I’m not so sure she’s happy to be home.
Marlena: Oh. Are we missing something?
Steve: Stephanie and I had a little disagreement, before I left.
Stephanie: A disagreement. Right.
Steve: Listen, baby, I know things got tense before, and I’m sorry. And I also know that you’re a grown woman, and you have the right to make your own decisions.
Stephanie: You mean that?
Steve: I do. And I’m gonna try to step back.
Stephanie: Thank you. That means a lot.
Marlena: Communication. That’s what I like to see. You don’t want the two of us here right now.
Kayla: Oh, come on. We love you guys here. You’re always welcome.
Stephanie: I wish I could stay, but I have an appointment.
Steve: Okay. Good luck.
Stephanie: Thank you, papa.
Steve: Hope your meeting goes well.
Stephanie: It means a lot to me that you admitted you were wrong. Bye, guys. Great to see you.
John: We’ll see you, steph. Take care.
Stephanie: Bye-bye.
Marlena: Bye, baby.
Steve: All right, john. Let’s hit it.
[Gun cocks] As sensodyne scientists
Kayla: What’s going on?
Marlena: Wait, wait, wait. You’re leaving?
John: Take a raincheck on that date night.
Kayla: Wait, wait, wait. Where are you going?
Steve: We’re gonna follow stephanie to her meeting.
Kayla: You promised her you weren’t gonna do that, steve!
Steve: It’s my job to protect our daughter. Come on. Let’s catch up to her.
Kayla: Steve! Come on.
[Sighs] Stephanie is not gonna be happy about this.
[Tense music]
Ej: Do you think you can dismiss me from my own house?
Ava: What are you gonna do? Hang around our dinner like some creeper?
Ej: You don’t belong here. Neither of you belongs here.
Ava: Well, my late husband would beg to differ.
Gabi: Mine too.
Ava: So this is a private meeting, and you know what you should do right now? You should use this time to look for a job. I hear that julie’s place is hiring.
Ej: You think you’re so clever, both of you, but you’re really just a couple of screwed-up, angry women. Bitter to the core.
Gabi: Hmm.
Ava: Is he still here?
Gabi: Yeah. Yeah, he’s still here. Bye, ej.
Ej: Hmm.
Gabi: Well, I gotta say that is not what I was expecting when I came over here.
Ava: Yeah, well, ej dimera is a selfish, controlling narcissist, but I know how to deal with guys like him.
Gabi: And how are you gonna do that exactly?
Ava: Let him hang himself.
[Laughs] He completely showed his hand. The only reason he invited me to move in here was to manipulate me.
Gabi: I could have told you that. Actually, I did tell you that.
Ava: And now his hostility is out in the open, okay? He wants me gone. Gone from the company. Gone from the house. I’m not giving him the satisfaction.
Gabi: That’s all well and good, but you know, when I came in here I felt some tension between you and ej. It felt a little sexual.
Ava: What? Hardly.
Gabi: I know heat when I see it.
Ava: He was trying to stop me from breaking his family’s precious wine glasses. Hey, you want to help me smash the rest of ’em?
Gabi: You couldn’t stop looking at each other. You know, it’s a very fine line between love and hate. Especially when it comes to the dimeras. That’S… that’s how it started with me and stefan.
Stefan: [Panting] Give me your car keys now.
Rolf: Stefan, let’s talk about this.
Stefan: There is nothing to talk about. I need to get home to my wife.
Rolf: Listen to me. I am your physician, and I’m telling you for your own good, you cannot drive.
Stefan: I’ll be fine.
