  • CBS 48 HOURS – Saturday, April 2 Show More
4/2/22 (Saturday) (10:00 PM) on CBS – A CALIFORNIA TECH-EXECUTIVE-TURNED-CANNABIS-ENTREPRENEUR IS KIDNAPPED FROM HIS WATERFRONT HOME – COULD GRAINY SURVEILLANCE VIDEO HELP INVESTIGATORS SOLVE THE CASE?
“48 Hours” Investigates in “Who Shot the Tech Exec?” Preview
Tushar Atre had it all. A successful tech-executive-turned-cannabis-entrepreneur, he had a multimillion-dollar home on the California coast, where he spent his free time surfing. The dream house turned into a crime scene in October 2019; grainy surveillance video from that time shows he was attacked and kidnapped. He was later found stabbed and fatally shot on his cannabis farm in the Santa Cruz mountains. 48 HOURS and correspondent Tracy Smith investigate Atre’s disappearance and murder and the trail that led to four suspects, in “Who Shot the Tech Exec?” to be broadcast Saturday, April 2 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+.
It’s a case that stunned Atre’s community in Santa Cruz and took investigators on as many twists as a surfer riding the famous waves at his doorstep. The two crime scenes provided few clues, though guests inside Atre’s home told detectives they heard the intruders demanding to know the location and combination of Tushar’s safe.
“This was a whodunit from the start,” says Steve Cercone, a former California police chief and a 48 HOURS consultant.
Investigators from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office did have that grainy surveillance video, which captured what happened on Atre’s street from the moment three shadowy figures entered the neighborhood and walked toward his house. Minutes later, Atre is seen running and then tackled. He is repeatedly stabbed and eventually pushed into a BMW the suspects stole from his driveway, before they all drive away. Who were those figures, and why would they want Atre dead? It’s a mystery that investigators would spend more than seven months unraveling.
“If this is truly just a simple robbery and all you care about is the money in the house, once he runs away, you let him go,” says attorney Mary Fulginiti, a former federal prosecutor and 48 HOURS consultant.
“It’s definitely about more than just money,” Fulginiti adds.
48 HOURS: “Who Shot the Tech Exec?” is produced by Gayane Keshishyan Mendez, Richard Fetzer and Chuck Stevenson. Michelle Fanucci is the development producer. Lauren Turner Dunn is the associate producer. Ken Blum, Joan Adelman, Wini Dini, Grayce Arlotta-Berner and Diana Modica are the editors. Anthony Batson is the senior broadcast producer. Friday’s All-New Special Features Exclusive TV Interviews with Insiders Close to Former Cop Valerie Cincinelli
‘Hit List’ Airs Friday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT
Friday’s all-new Dateline NBC at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT will reveal new details in the case of former NYC police officer Valerie Cincinelli, who was accused of an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting her husband, Isaiah Carvalho. The two-hour special features exclusive TV interviews with those close to the case and Cincinelli, including her ex-boyfriend John DiRubba.
In his first TV interview, DiRubba speaks out about going undercover in an FBI sting operation and recording conversations with Cincinelli to expose the alleged plan, which also included killing his own 14-year-old daughter. He denied that he did so out of revenge, telling Dateline correspondent Andrea Canning, “It was Valerie’s own words that put her in jail. It’s her own voice, what she wanted to do. She could have stopped this at any time.” He added, “If you’re a police officer that upholds the law, you should say, ‘John, what are you talking about? Are you crazy?’ That should have been the only thing that should have been on that tape. What would I gain out of killing my own daughter?” Last year, murder-for-hire charges against Cincinelli were dropped and she pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice.
During the two-hour special, Cincinelli’s attorney James Kousouros defends his client, telling Canning in an exclusive TV interview, “People don’t live a 34-year life as a decorated police officer, a college graduate, a good daughter, in every way shape or form, and then just all of a sudden wake up in the morning and flip a switch and become unhinged.” He added that Cincinelli was “clearly playing out this fantasy” during the taped conversations and that she “never believed” it would “come to fruition.”
Additionally, Hit List features an exclusive TV sit-down with Isaiah’s parents Mary Ann and Patrick Roach.

“60 MINUTES PRESENTS: CAPTURING HISTORY” ON SUNDAY, MARCH 27 Preview
TALKING TO THE PAST – It has been more than three quarters of a century since the end of World War II, and the number of living Holocaust survivors is dwindling. Thanks to a new project that uses artificial intelligence technology, survivors will be able to keep telling their stories – and having conversations – forever. Lesley Stahl reports. Shari Finkelstein is the producer. This is a double-length segment.
ONE SMALL STEP – Norah O’Donnell interviews Dave Isay, the founder of StoryCorps, an oral history project he started 18 years ago that has become the largest single collection of human voices ever recorded. Isay’s new project, “One Small Step,” is designed to get Americans from across the political spectrum to stop demonizing each other and start communicating, face to face, one conversation at a time. Keith Sharman is the producer.
Editor’s Note: The segments in this special edition of 60 MINUTES were previously broadcast.
