Steffy: Okay, petra. I think that will do it. Thank you.

Petra: Always a pleasure. Brooke was asking to see this. Should I hunt her down, or..,?

Thomas: Yeah, um… well, she was supposed to be here, but pam says she’s nowhere in the building, so.

Steffy: We’ve taken plenty of photos. You can go change and I’ll forward them to her.

Petra: Okay, great.

Steffy: Thank you.

Thomas: Thanks. Um, I gotta ask. Do you know what’s going on?

Steffy: What do you mean?

Thomas: With brooke. This isn’t the first meeting she’s missed in the last couple of days, and, well, she hasn’t been around the office. Dad says something’s going on with her. So, what is it?

Deacon: Listen to me. Nothing happened. Nothing.

[Door clicks]

Ridge: Something upset you in the meeting?

Brooke: No.

Ridge: ‘Cause you didn’t say anything on the ride home.

Brooke: I’m just taking it all in. Just thinking about what was shared. It’s helpful to know that other people are going through the same thing, struggling.

Ridge: You’re struggling now?

Brooke: Wanting to drink? Not really. I don’t know.

Ridge: You’re still thinking about what happened on new year’s, right?

Bartender: Someone’s in a hurry.

Deacon: Uh, well, lunch crowd’s about to come in and we want the floor spick and span for our valued customers.

Bartender: Nice try. Give.

Deacon: You are an astute student of human psychology. All right, fine. Maybe I’m rushing because there’s someone that I have to go see, someone special.

Bartender: Rush all you want, as long as you’re thorough.

Deacon: Yup.

Sheila: Someone special? Let’s see. Would that be hope? Or brooke?

Steffy: I’m not sure what’s going on with brooke, but there’s definitely something. Hope basically said the same thing as dad.

Thomas: That– that she’s been acting strange?

Steffy: Yeah, since new year’s eve. And mom and I were talking about it and we were wondering if the reason why brooke was sulking is because dad didn’t make it home.

Thomas: Well, but dad said that she understood why he couldn’t be there.

Steffy: Yeah, but maybe brooke was covering, you know, how she really felt? Or maybe dad misinterpreted it.

Thomas: Misinterpreted it, and she’s actually upset? So much upset that she wouldn’t come to work? I mean, that’s pretty petty.

Steffy: Yeah, it is. Even for brooke.

Thomas: Okay, let’s assume it’s not that. What do you think it is?

Steffy: Um….

Deacon: Gosh, sheila, as much as I would love to stand around here and discuss my social engagements, wow, oh, look at the time. I gotta go.

Sheila: Oh, wow, is that a new watch?

Deacon: Yeah. It’s made by this new company, it’s called mind your own business.

Sheila: Oh.

[Chuckles] You know, I… judging by how secretive you are, I’d– I’d have to say it’s brooke. So, new year’s must have been very successful.

Deacon: Okay, why do you keep doing that?

Sheila: Hmm?

Deacon: Bringing up new year’s eve. You were quizzing me about it last time we were together.

Sheila: Come on, I’m just– I’m just trying to make conversation here, all right? Can you throw me a bone? I’m living vicariously through you. You are miles ahead of me with your relationship with your daughter.

Deacon: I don’t know about that. I haven’t seen brooke or hope since new year’s eve.

Sheila: Really? Hmm. Well, is there a reason for that?

Brooke: It still troubles me. Yes. And I think it will for a very long time. I mean, how could it not? I was sober for so long and… what changed that night? Why did I suddenly have this urge to drink?

Ridge: I don’t know that there is an answer.

[Sighing] I go to those meetings with you and hearing all the other stories… it seems that people slip up.

Brooke: Yeah, yeah, and there’s some comfort in that. Although it doesn’t take away all the regrets. And I– I still have regrets.

Ridge: I have them, too. Number one regret: Not being here when you needed me most. Leaving you all alone. I’m sorry. But I promise you, you’re never going to feel that pkind of loneliness ever again.

Deacon: Sheila, give me a break. I’m trying to work here.

Sheila: Yeah, I just– you know, it seems so strange to me. You were so excited about becoming a part of hope’s life, spending time with her, with brooke! And now you’ve decided to stay away?

Deacon: I never said, “stay away,” I just said I hadn’t been there since new year’s eve.

Sheila: Well, has that happened? Why?

Deacon: I don’t know. Life, you know… things I’ve had to do.

Brooke: You can’t be here anymore. You can’t come here, deacon.

Deacon: What?

Brooke: No, I can’t see you. You can’t come back, deacon. Ever.

Deacon: Yeah, work obligations. What have you. Things like that.

[Sheila laughs]

Sheila: Work obligations.

Deacon: Yeah.

Sheila: You’re telling me that you haven’t seen brooke or hope because you’re busy mopping?

Deacon: It’s called dedication, sheila. You know, putting the interests of others ahead of your own. You should try it.

Sheila: Whose interests? The manager here? Or is it really somebody else’s interests? Like maybe brooke’s?

Deacon: You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Sheila: No, I’m talking about how staying away from brooke’s house might be her idea, not yours.

Deacon: Okay. Anyhoo, enjoy your lunch or your stalking session or whatever reason you came here for. I gotta go. Ta.

[Sheila chuckles] Oh, wow, that must have been one heck of a new year’s eve. One hell of a party.

Steffy: I’m trying to hold back judgment, but I am co-ceo of this company, and if something’s going on with brooke and it affects work, I need to be told.

Thomas: Yeah. Well, look, I’m sure if it’s something serious, dad will tell you about it.

Steffy: Ha. If he even knows.

Ridge: Even knows what? What’s wrong?

Steffy: That’s what we’re wondering. Thomas and I were just discussing his latest design.

Thomas: Yeah, the one that brooke really wanted to see. She even set a time in here with the model so she could be here, but…

Steffy: Brooke was a no-show. Again.

Steffy: Dad. What is going on with your wife?

[Sheila sighs]

Sheila: Customer service was a lot better when I worked here. Did I succeed? Did I get brooke to drink again?

Deacon: Brooke.

Brooke: Deacon! What are you doing here! You can’t just walk in here!

Deacon: I was afraid you’d slam the door in my face.

Brooke: Look, if you want to see hope, I’m not going to stop you from going down there, but you’re not welcome in my home.

Deacon: Listen, if you’re afraid about ridge, don’t worry about it. I called down at forrester. He’s– he’s still in the office.

Brooke: God, I asked you not to come here!

Deacon: And I tried to honor that. I tried to honor you, but I can’t anymore. Brooke: Why not?

Deacon: Because I can’t stop thinking about what happened between us.

Brooke: Look, I don’t want to think about it. I want to just put it out of my mind.

Deacon: But you can’t, can ya? I bet you’re thinking about this as much as I am. What we did new year’s eve.

Steffy: Look, if it’s none of our business, just say so. But we are starting to get concerned.

Thomas: Yeah, it’s not like brooke to miss appointments. And you said the other day there’s something that she’s struggling with?

Steffy: Hope came to mom and me and she said that she’s worried about brooke. And if something’s really wrong, dad, we want to help.

Ridge: All right. I appreciate your concern. Brooke and I will be fine.

Thomas: So there is something going on?

Steffy: Brooke’s made some choices and we know you don’t approve, especially when it comes to deacon. Thomas: Yeah, does this have to do with him?

Steffy: Because that is a huge slap in the face. She’s opened her home to deacon without giving you any say. And not only has she opened her home, she’s opened herself up to him– his influence, his bad decisions. Deacon has all access, which means we don’t know what brooke might do next.

Brooke: Deacon, please. We need to put that night behind us. Forget it ever happened.

Deacon: Banning me from the house is not going to make you forget it.

Brooke: It will– it’ll help.

Deacon: It won’t help me. I can’t think about anything else. All I think about is kissing you.

Brooke: Yeah, but I did that because I was drunk! I drank. And I don’t even know how that happened.

Deacon: I tried to stop you. You wouldn’t– you wouldn’t listen to me.

Brooke: Look. I’m not blaming you. I wish to god there was somebody I could blame but myself. I just don’t know what happened that night. I just had this intense urge to drink and it just took over. It really, it doesn’t make any sense at all.

Deacon: Listen, if you haven’t done it already, you really should go to a meeting.

Brooke: I did. I did. I’ve been to some meetings with ridge. He’s been very supportive.

Deacon: Wait, you– you told ridge?

Brooke: Yes. And hope knows, too. About the alcohol. Nothing else. They don’t know that you spent the night here.

Deacon: Just sleeping it off, that’s all.

Brooke: Sleeping it off in my bed! You really think ridge is gonna understand that? Or you kissing me? Or– oh, my god. That’s why you can’t be here, deacon.

Deacon: No! No, no, no. I should be coming around more.

Brooke: No, no, that’s a terrible idea.

Deacon: Brooke. Up until new year’s eve, you didn’t have a problem with me being here on the property, right?

Brooke: And why do you think that is? I mean, why do you think that changed? Every time I look at you, I’m gonna be reminded of what happened.

Deacon: Not letting me on the property is only– it’s gonna raise suspicion with hope and ridge. Don’t you get it? I mean, look, she’s already been texting me. Hope wants to know why I haven’t been coming around. She doesn’t understand. This about-face that you’re doing is gonna raise red flags. Not letting me here? The last thing she remembers: We were here together having a great time. Now suddenly, I can’t come around? I mean, come on. Ridge and hope are smart people. They’re gonna connect the dots. The best thing that you can do is allow me back.

Brooke: Absolutely not.

Deacon: Ya gotta trust me on this.

Brooke: Oh, god. I can’t listen to you one more minute. I can’t see you anymore, deacon! You get it?

Thomas: Is this the best choice for you, dad?

Ridge: Choice? What choice?

Thomas: Being over there. At brooke’s place where deacon is makin’ himself a regular fixture. Okay, there are more pleasant places you can spend your time with people who actually care about you. And I know that brooke cares about you. She does. All right, this might sound a little weird for me to say, but… I miss you, dad.

Steffy: So do I. Mom does, too.

Ridge: You know how much I love you, right?

Thomas: Yeah, we never doubted that.

Ridge: So, what is this “miss you” drama? What’s going on?

Okay. Um… look, you make time to be with the grandkids, and obviously, we see you here at work, but…

Steffy: But dad, you go home to brooke and the logans. And now brooke, hope and deacon. Whatever is going on with brooke, this mood she’s been in since new year’s eve, if you want to put up with that, fine. Because it’s only a matter of time before brooke’s involved in another scandal. You know I’m right. Especially now that deacon’s in her orbit. It’s gonna happen, dad. And we don’t want that for you.

Thomas: That’s right. Now, look, deacon came back to town and where did he go? Straight to brooke. But someone else also came back to town. Maybe there’s some importance in that. ‘Cause timing is everything. Maybe mom is here to keep you out of brooke’s next scandal.

Steffy: It’s true… because you know what’s going to happen, dad? It’s brooke we’re talking about. She’s always involved in a scandal. And we don’t want you caught up in her madness. But you need to take control of your life before brooke brings you down again.

Brooke: I am going to make certain that you are out of all of our lives, once and for all.

Sheila: Will you, brooke? You guaranteeing to destroy my life… has only guaranteed me destroying yours.

Deacon: Brooke, do you seriously not see how suspicious this is?

Brooke: I don’t–

Deacon: That in one day–

Brooke: — Care!

Deacon: — You completely changed your opinion of me? Come on.

Brooke: Deacon: It’s what I have to do, okay?

Deacon: Yes. What you have to do, because you know what I know. We kissed for a reason.

Brooke: Because we were drunk. My god, what possessed me to drink?

Deacon: Don’t do this to yourself. Don’t– don’t lay a guilt trip on yourself. It’s not–

Brooke: What’re you talking about? You don’t think I should feel guilty, first of all, for drinking, second of all, for what we did together?

Deacon: It was one kiss. One.

Brooke: One kiss too many and it shouldn’t have happened. I never should have reached for that damn vodka bottle!

Deacon: You know, you say you don’t understand why you drank, but isn’t it obvious?

Brooke: No, no, it’s not obvious. I really haven’t had this intense urge to drink in a very long time.

Deacon: Okay, you were supposed to ring in the new year in with ridge. Right?

Brooke: Right.

Deacon: And then he calls and surprise, surprise, he can’t make it home.

Brooke: Okay, okay, I was sad he couldn’t come home, but I don’t think that would drive me to drink!

Deacon: Is it possible that that was the last straw? How many times has that man let you down? And now, you’ve got taylor in town.

Brooke: Oh, god. Don’t bring up her name. I’m sure that she’s just waiting in the wings somewhere, ready to pounce if something goes wrong. That’s why I’m really so mad that this happened that night.

Deacon: Well, it did happen.

Brooke: Yeah.

Deacon: It did. We– we let our inhibitions down and you know what it did? It released some inner desires.

Brooke: Desires? No, deacon. No. Not desires. Deacon: Brooke. Our lips touched. You can’t deny that there’s something going on between us. I know what I felt.

Brooke: My god. Why are you doing this? Why? Saying these ridiculous things like you did so long ago. You remember what happened, right?

Deacon: Yeah, I do. We created the most amazing daughter on the planet, who would love to see her parents together.

Brooke: Oh, my god, deacon. Stop. Please, please. I am with ridge. I love ridge. I want to be with my husband. Do you understand that? And if ridge knows exactly what we did that night on new year’s eve, he will leave me. He’ll leave. And I can’t let that happen. I won’t! I won’t!

Deacon: Look! I can’t do this anymore, okay? I have tried. I have buried my feelings for as long as I can. I’ve given you your space. I’ve told myself, “don’t– don’t bother her. Leave her alone,” but you know what? I’m done. Enough. Listen to me. I love you. Hell, I’ve always loved you. And I always will.
