Ridge: Could you please tell him to leave your daughter alone?
Deacon: She’s my daughter too
Brooke: Okay, what’s happening? Is hope even home?
Deacon: No, she went to work. She said that I could stick around.
Ridge: And I’m saying you should leave, and so is brooke.
Deacon: Is that what you want? Is that how you feel?
Brooke: Why are you here?
Ridge: You know why he’s here here. You know exactly why he’s here. He’s trying to force his way into hope’s life. And I think you know how that’s going to end. Another crushing disappointment. Is that what you want for your daughter? I know you don’T. So can we please just end this now before it gets any worse? Just tell him to leave and never come back.
Hope: I can’t believe what I’m hearing.
Steffy: You know liam’s concerned about this.
Hope: I didn’t expect you to be the one fueling them.
Liam: Wait, that’s not what’s happening here.
Hope: No? She’s not telling you it’s wrong for me to be defending my father or for wanting him in my life?
Liam: No, what she’s telling me is that she’s concerned about the effect deacon could have on our life, and she’s encouraging me to keep talking to you like I have been to see if I can get through.
Hope: Yeah, to change my mind.
Steffy: Liam’s the only one who can.
Hope: Liam is my husband, and what happens in our marriage and our family should be our business. And I know that we’ve all been very connected lately, trying to create a nurturing environment for all of our children. But just like you asked me to respect your boundaries with sheila, I’m asking you to respect mine. Please do not interfere with my marriage to liam.
Steffy: I’m not interfering in your marriage, hope.
Liam: Yeah, it’s not about our marriage, it’s about deacon not letting you down again. It’s about him not affecting brooke and ridge’s relationship. Steffy’s concerned about everybody here.
Steffy: This is a huge mistake. When has deacon done anything but disappoint you?
Hope: He is my dad.
Steffy: And he’s a threat to this family. I don’t want him to hurt you again. And honestly, I’m afraid that’s what’s going to happen.
Hope: Well, I’m not afraid of that. I’m not afraid of that at all.
Liam: Okay, but you see, hope that’s what scares us, right? Like, deacon has gotten you to trust him again. Okay, fine. But if there’s any chance that he’s the same old guy, I don’t want him around the kids. So you can keep in touch. That’s fine. Write letters, send pictures, whatever. But I think it’s just, it’s just best for everybody if the guy leaves town and doesn’t come back.
Deacon: Hope wants me in her life.
Ridge: You’ve got into her head. She’s forgotten everything she knows about you.
Deacon: She knows I love her. She knows that I’m here for her. I’m here for her children. I would never do anything to hurt, stop treating me like I’m the big, scary, bad guy trying to infiltrate your family, I’m not. All I want to do is get to know my little girl. She wants it too. She wants it more than anything.
Ridge: Why are we listening to this? I don’t know.
Deacon: You know this is true. She trusts me. You can, too.
Ridge: There it is, that’s enough. Time for you to go.
Deacon: Come on. What do you…?
Brooke: Ridge, stop, please. This isn’t helping.
Ridge: What?
Brooke: Just leave him alone.
Itchy?
Hope: If I want my dad in my life, he will be.
Liam: Okay. But, you’ve got to know you’re making that decision for a lot of people, besides yourself.
Steffy: And we’re not even allowed to question it, because you’re the only one who really knows deacon sharpe?
Hope: Well, you haven’t even tried to get to know him.
Steffy: I know enough. And you should, too.
Hope: Okay, I am not being manipulated, steffy. I am just giving my dad an opportunity to prove himself and doesn’t everybody deserve that?
Liam: All things being equal, maybe. Sure. But in this case, we have kids to think about.
Steffy: You were so good at coming together for the children.
Liam: And isn’t that our highest priority? Making sure that the kids are safe, making sure that we have their best interests in mind?
Hope: That is exactly what I am doing. And first of all, I would never, ever put the kids in harm’s way. But I also don’t want them growing up thinking that the world is an evil, scary place, that people aren’t capable of change. I want them to see the best in people. I want them to make the world a kinder place.
Liam: Yes, I love that. That’s beautiful, I agree. And I can only hope that our kids are just as compassionate and loving as you are. But there is also nothing wrong with being cautious when it’s warranted.
Steffy: Normally you are cautious and reasonable, but–
Hope: Oh, I’m not being reasonable?
Steffy: I’m not trying to argue with you right now. You should just listen to liam.
Liam: And I’m not trying to argue with you either. Believe me, that is the last thing I want. I just, I just don’t understand why this is so difficult to communicate about.
Hope: Well, it’s not going to get any easier if you keep treating my dad like he’s some kind of monster. He is a person who wants connection, who wants love, who wants to be a part of a family. And I am determined to give him that.
Brooke: Okay, look. This is hope’s home and deacon is her father. So if she wants to see him, really, there’s nothing that we can do.
Ridge: Honey, honey. We have a say in this.
Deacon: Okay, but it doesn’t mean you can barge into hope’s home without permission.
Brooke: Deacon, just let us talk.
Deacon: I’m sorry, but he’s acting like I broke into the damn place.
Ridge: Hope’s making a mistake. This could damage, not only her but, the grandchildren.
>Deacon: So now I’m going to damage the grandchildren? I was making some phone calls.
Ridge: Why’s this clown here, why’s he still talking?
Deacon: When are you going to listen? I’m not the one driving a wedge between hope and her family. That’s you. She just wants me to feel included. But if you keep pushing, you keep shutting me out, you’re going to force her to make a choice.
Ridge: Does that sound like a threat to you?
Deacon: No, that’s not a threat, it’s not what I want.
Ridge: What do you want? What does the great deacon want now? What do you want? What you had before? Will you convince my wife to betray her daughter? Bridget loved this snake. And you slept with her husband, you had a child. Biggest betrayal of your life, and that’s what you want? You want this clown here? You want this constant reminder in your life?
Deacon: Come on, man, why do you gotta bring that up?
Ridge: I don’t know what game he’s playing, I have no idea. But whatever it is, I don’t want you involved in it, or hope. I don’t want you guys to get hurt. Look at me. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Ok everyone, our mission is to provide complete,
Liam: You believe in deacon. I get that.
Hope: No, I don’t think you do. I don’t think anyone really understands what he means to me.
Liam: Are you sure about that? Because my dad is no paragon of virtue either and I still love him.
Hope: And you still are glad you got to know him.
Liam: Yes, because it’s made me aware of who he is.
Steffy: I get it. I’m in the same situation with sheila and finn.
Hope: My dad is nothing like sheila.
Steffy: It’s the same tension he’s causing. Finn and I got through it. And you and liam will get through it, too. You just need to step back, be objective and ask yourself, is it worth it? What if deacon goes back to his old ways, hm? What if he starts asking for money, starts drinking again? Do you want that influence in your life and around your children? Things could get really bad, especially if he’s desperate. He’s always on the brink of crashing and burning.
Liam: You said that he’s trying to rehabilitate himself, right? What that means is this is a very tricky time in his life. All it takes is one little speed bump and
[ Plane crashing whistle ]
Hope: And that is precisely why I want to help him, why I want to give him some kind of stability.
Liam: Okay, I admit, I wasn’t around for all the worst stuff that deacon did. I’ve just seen enough and I’ve heard enough to know that it’s worth taking a stand. And you know something else? You keep saying that we’re treating him like he’s a monster. That’s not what this is about, hope. If there’s a hurricane coming your way, you don’t think of the hurricane as a monster. You don’t try to punish it. You don’t seek retribution. You just get out of its way and you protect yourself. And that’s all we’re doing with deacon, okay? This is not about being cruel. I’m not trying to control you, steffy’s not trying to pick fights with you, and ridge is not trying to be a jerk. We are just trying to look out for you and the kids, that’s it.
Hope: Well, don’t include my mom in that because I think she believes the best in him.
Liam: I’m not, this is not, I don’t want to get into a tug of war with you. I just, I just don’t know why you’re not hearing me.
Hope: What I am hearing is that you don’t trust me or my judgment. That I don’t know what is best for myself or for our family. And coming from steffy and ridge, that’s not exactly surprising, but coming from you, liam, it’s more than hurtful. It’s disappointing.
Liam: Hope? What are you doing? Where are you going? Hope!
Brooke: I hate what this is doing to us, ridge.
Ridge: You can stop it.
Brooke: No, no, I can’T. Not the way you want. Not if shutting deacon out means pushing hope away.
Ridge: He’s trying to make you feel like you don’t have a choice, but you do have a choice.
Brooke: You know what hope said to me? If we don’t allow deacon into our family, she’s going to take liam and the kids and just move away. I’ve built a strong bond with her, ridge, since she’s been here and I love having the grandchildren around. I’m not going to be the one to drive her out of here.
Ridge: You’re not. It’s him. Everything was fine until he got here.
Brooke: What if it’s true? What if hope’s right and deacon has charged?
Deacon: Let me prove it, please.
Ridge: You want to prove it? You want to prove you’re a changed man? Okay, leave.
Deacon: Don’t you get it, man? That’s what everyone expects me to do. You know, to let hope down, just disappear. Well, I’m not going to do it, not this time. You know why? Because hope is right. She’s right. She believes in me, brooke. And I know you do too. I can see it. Maybe you believe in me just for hope, but you do.
Ridge: Brooke? Tell him he’s wrong.
Brooke: Oh, ridge. Can we just talk about this?
Ridge: I’m going to go.
Brooke: No, no. Don’t do that.
Ridge: You know what? I don’t want to say something I’m gonna regret. This isn’t over. Better skin from your body wash?
Liam: Her car is gone. Like, I, I can’t believe that. I can’t believe she would just she would just leave. Like, that is not what we do. We, we talk things out. We listen to each other.
Steffy: I should have given you two time to talk.
Liam: Well, I appreciate that, but this still affects you, too. I mean, deacon being in our lives, is bad for everybody. I’m not just coming after hope’s dad for no reason.
Steffy: What we were telling her was the truth, whether she accepts it or not.
Liam: Yes, exactly. It’s–
Ridge: Hey, steffy.
Steffy: Hey.
Ridge: Liam. Glad you’re here. I want to talk to you.
Steffy: Is everything okay?
Ridge: Um, what about hope, is she, is she here?
Liam: Hope just left because we got into a thing about deacon.
Steffy: It’s my fault. She walked in on us talking about how dangerous deacon is.
Liam: And she immediately defended him, which appears to be her default mode now.
Ridge: Yeah, brooke is starting to do the same thing.
Steffy: What?
Ridge: Oh, yeah. In the beginning I thought it was just about not alienating hope and not drawing a line in the sand. But now I’m, I’m not sure, um. I went down to the cabin and deacon was there.
Liam: Deacon was in the, deacon was in my home?
Ridge: Yeah, made himself at home. Said he had permission. So I was going to throw him out and brooke came him down and told me to stop. I thought it was because she wanted to throw him out, but no, it’s because she wanted to defend him, just like hope.
Steffy: I can’t believe that. Brooke knows nobody can trust deacon.
Ridge: Hah.
Liam: It’s got to be like ridge said. She doesn’t want to push hope away.
Ridge: Yeah, that’s what I thought, too. You know, I didn’t think that that brooke, after everything this man has done to her, would let him back in. But I’m starting to wonder if deacon is only here to reconnect with his daughter.
Deacon: Um, I’m sorry that happened.
Brooke: Yeah, me too.
Deacon: You could have gone after him.
Brooke: Well, I don’t see what that would change. I mean, I can’t change what hope wants.
Deacon: You’re not sure, but you stuck up for me.
Brooke: I just hate being at odds with the ridge.
Deacon: And I hate putting you in that position. I’m causing tension in your marriage, I’m causing tension in hope’s marriage. That’s not what I wanted. I don’t want to complicate things. I just want a relationship with hope. I want to be worthy of her. You know, she’s put so much faith in me. So have you. I just want to live up to it. You have raised hope to be the most forgiving person I’ve ever met.
Hope: And she taught me not to give up on people. That if you give them a chance, they, they may surprise you.
Deacon: I’m trying, kiddo.
Hope: I know. And it means a lot. You’re, you’re really fighting to be a part of my life.
Deacon: I was absent for a very long time. And it’s ironic because I thought I was doing you a favor. But in reality, it’s the biggest regret of my life. I should have been there for you. You know, I, I wasn’t there when you were growing up. I can’t change that. But I’m here now. This is my shot, this is maybe my last shot at redemption. And all I want to do is spend time with you and the family, making memories. I don’t want to waste any of that and nobody is going to get in my way. No one’s going to take that away from me, including ridge.
Brooke: Ridge was here, and he tried to throw deacon out.
Deacon: You know what your mother did? Your mother actually defended me. She said to ridge, “what if hope’s right? What if he actually has changed?”
Hope: You, you said that?
Brooke: Yeah.
Hope: Wow. Thank you. Although I can’t imagine that ridge reacted too well to that. But I mean, that is what everyone needs to hear. That’s the only way we’re going to bring peace to our family. And ridge, liam, steffy, they’ve been fighting this so hard, and frankly, it’s demoralizing. It feels like they don’t trust me or my judgment and… it helps a lot to know that, that you do. Because I need your support, mom and… dad does too.
Deacon: Yeah.
Hope: Thank you. I love you. Thanks.
Brooke: Yeah.
Ridge: He’s getting into brooke’s head, he’s making her believe in him again. This is not going to end well.
