Airing Saturday, Dec. 28 (10:00PM) -CBS NEWS TELLS THE STORIES OF FAMILIES SEPARATED AT THE U.S. BORDER, IN THE BROADCAST NETWORK PREMIERE OF THE CBSN ORIGINALS PRESENTATION “THE FACES OF FAMILY SEPARATION”
CBS News takes viewers on a journey inside the real-life challenges facing migrant families split apart by the Trump administration’s “Zero Tolerance” policy, with the primetime broadcast network premiere of the CBSN Originals presentation “The Faces of Family Separation,” to be broadcast Saturday, Dec. 28 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Reported by Manuel Bojorquez and a team of journalists from all divisions of CBS News, the documentary provides an immersive look at the hotly debated issue through the eyes of those impacted the most – the fathers, mothers, sons and daughters separated and unaware when they’ll see their family members again. “The Faces of Family Separation” had its digital debut on CBSN Oct. 7.
The documentary follows four families who made the harrowing journey from Central America to the U.S. border, fleeing the dangers of gangs, crime and poverty. They were subsequently detained, and then separated upon entry.
Susana, who migrated with her son, Leni, her daughter, Litzy, and Litzy’s father, recounts an incident her son witnessed on a walk that pushed them to leave home in El Salvador. She says at that “moment he was passing by…a few men were on their way to murder someone. He told me their faces were covered with masks,” she continues, “and you know witnesses get killed too.”
Another parent, Adelindo, recounts the moment his 7-year-old daughter, Angie, was taken from him in the U.S. He says at that point, “I wished to die. I would only think about my daughter.”
Produced by the team at 48 HOURS, “The Faces of Family Separation” features extensive reporting on the complex and ongoing story of the “Zero Tolerance” policy of prosecuting and detaining those who crossed the U.S. southern border illegally.
The film also explores how these children are coping with the trauma of detention and separation, and the long-term impact it has on their lives as their families wait for asylum court dates that will determine whether they will stay in the United States or be deported.
CBSN launched its documentary series, CBSN Originals, in January 2016, adding a new dimension to the network with immersive reports that take a deep dive into some of the key issues driving national and global conversations. To date, CBSN has streamed 50 original documentaries on a range of topics including the mass migration from Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, social media’s role in the violence against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar, gender identity, and the dangerous journey to America through the Darien Gap, among others. Catch up on the entire slate of CBSN Originals: https://cbsn.ws/2T1NRug

Two-Hour ‘20/20’ on Notorious Bobbitt Case Features Interview With John Wayne Bobbitt, Friday, Dec. 27, on ABC
    ’20/20′ Airs Friday, Dec. 27 (9:00 – 11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC
Twenty-six years ago, Lorena Bobbitt’s name was splashed across newspaper headlines and television screens nationwide when she was charged with attacking her husband, John Wayne Bobbitt, with a kitchen knife. A two-hour “20/20” reports details in the infamous case and features an interview with John, in which he shares details about the 1993 events, what he went through in the aftermath of the attack and his life now. “20/20” airs Friday, Dec. 27 (9:00 – 11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC.
The two-hour program includes footage from the ABC News archives, including Lorena’s first TV interview, which she gave to “20/20” in 1993, and examines the case’s lasting impact on issues of domestic violence, particularly through the #MeToo and Time’s Up lens. The special features interviews with key players in the case including Paul Ebert, the Prince William County Commonwealth attorney who prosecuted both Lorena and John; Blair Howard, Lorena’s attorney; Gregg Murphy, John’s attorney; Brett Biro, John’s brother; Dr. David Berman and Dr. James Sehn, two doctors who treated John; Patricia Ireland, former president of the National Organization for Women; Kim Masters, who wrote the first Vanity Fair article that featured an interview with Lorena; and talk show host Maury Povich who covered the case extensively.
As news spread that 24-year-old Lorena dismembered John, the case quickly became a media sensation. Lorena claimed that John raped her before the attack, John denies that he raped Lorena. Lorena was found not guilty of maliciously wounding her husband due to temporary insanity, and in a different trial, John was found not guilty of marital sexual assault against Lorena.
John and Lorena remained in the public eye in the years following the attack. John starred in adult films and was in the headlines again when he was convicted of domestic battery and attempted grand larceny in cases unrelated to Lorena. Lorena had another run-in with the law, arrested for allegedly punching her mother and eventually acquitted of that charge. Airing Saturday, December 28, 2019 (10:00 PM-11:00 PM EST) on the ABC Television Network: (West Coast only)” (Repeat) ‘20/20’ Follows an Inspirational Family for Nearly Five Years As They Adjust to Life With Son’s Rare Facial Condition, Saturday, Dec. 28
15-Year-Old Nathaniel Newman Has Been Called the Real-Life Story of Character from Bestselling Book and Movie ‘Wonder’
‘20/20’ Airs Saturday, Dec. 28 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC
It is every parent’s fear during pregnancy—will my child be born healthy? Magda and Russel Newman had every reason to believe their child would be, but what actually happened resulted in an unexpected journey that changed their lives forever. Their son Nathaniel Newman, now 15, was born with a very rare craniofacial condition called Treacher Collins syndrome, which affects just one in 50,000 people. Nathaniel was born with no cheekbones, ears and almost no jawbone. In a complete coincidence, Nathaniel’s life bears a striking resemblance to Auggie Pullman’s, the fictional protagonist in R.J. Palacio’s bestselling book, “Wonder.” The comparisons are so striking that even Palacio has called Nathaniel “Auggie Pullman come to life.” For nearly five years, ABC News followed Nathaniel, who struggles to fit into a world where he cannot help but stand out, and his family as they navigate everyday challenges from the start of a new school to undergoing groundbreaking surgery—only performed once before on a child with Treacher Collins—with the goal of removing his life-altering tracheostomy. “20/20” includes interviews with Nathaniel; Magda and Russel; Jacob Newman, Nathaniel’s protective younger brother; Nathaniel’s doctors; “Wonder” author R.J. Palacio; Jono Lancaster, a 33-year-old with Treacher Collins who has successfully adapted to his condition and an incredible surprise from singer Christina Aguilera. The episode also reports on Nathaniel and Magda’s life now, including their new book, “Normal: One Kid’s Extraordinary Journey,” which will be released early next year. “20/20” airs Saturday, Dec. 28 (10:00-11:00p.m. EST), on ABC.
Magda and Russel met on a beach in Southampton, New York, and married about a year later. Following a healthy pregnancy, Magda, 24, gave birth in New York City after nearly 17 hours of labor. What should have been a joyous occasion quickly turned to a frantic scene. As the doctors rushed the baby away in an attempt to save his life, Magda caught a glimpse of his head and knew immediately something was different. Hours after Nathaniel was born, after they were still emotional from the news of his condition, the two new parents sat in the hospital room watching the GRAMMY® Awards. After they watched Aguilera perform “Beautiful,” they resolved to treasure the inner beauty in their son and help the world see it too. Because of the malformations in his face, the simplest tasks—eating, breathing, and swallowing—were nearly impossible for Nathaniel. In the first year of his life, he had more than ten surgeries to help his body function. Flash forward to present day, Nathaniel has had over 60 surgeries, but his family is still holding up the vow they made on that first night. “20/20” follows Nathaniel as he comes to terms with his differences, and his resilient family as they endure risky surgeries and Magda’s cancer diagnosis, and prepare for future challenges. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 11/17/17).
