Airing Friday, October 18, 2019 (9:00 PM-11:00 PM EST) on ABC – – ABC Newsā€™ ā€˜20/20ā€™ Presents Two-Hour TV Event on Dorothy Stratten, Actress and Playboy Playmate Destined for Stardom, Murdered at Age 20 by Jealous, Estranged Husband, Friday, Oct. 18
ā€˜20/20ā€™ Looks at Dorothyā€™s Life and Career Through Eyes of Those Who Knew Her Best, Ahead of 40th Anniversary of Her Death
At age 18, Dorothy Stratten left her job at a Dairy Queen and moved to Hollywood, soon becoming famous as the 1980 Playboy ā€Playmate of the Year.ā€ In Los Angeles, Dorothy captivated the attention of legendary Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner, who had big plans for her in the Playboy empire, and powerful movie director Peter Bogdanovich, who cast her in a breakthrough role in his film ā€œThey All Laughed,ā€ alongside iconic actors Audrey Hepburn, John Ritter and Ben Gazzara. But Paul Snider, who discovered Dorothy at the Dairy Queen and married her after they moved to Hollywood, grappled with jealousy and anger when she filed for divorce, viewing her as his ticket to success. Dorothyā€™s modeling and acting career came to a tragic end when Paul shot and killed her before he died by suicide. Now, almost 40 years after Dorothyā€™s death, a two-hour ā€œ20/20ā€ takes a look at her life and career through the eyes of those who knew her best and explores what drove Paul to murder. ā€œ20/20ā€ airs Friday, Oct. 18 (9:00 ā€“ 11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.
ā€œ20/20ā€ includes interviews with Jeana Keough, Victoria Cooke and Rosanne Katon Walden, former Playmates who knew Dorothy well; Dr. Stephen Cushner and Patti Laurman, Dorothy and Paulā€™s former roommates who were the first to discover the bodies in the home they shared with Paul; Marilyn Grabowski, former Playboy photo editor; Colleen Camp, actress who starred alongside Dorothy in ā€œThey All Laughedā€; actor Max Baer Jr., close friend of Dorothy and Paul; Mariel Hemingway and Eric Roberts, actors who played Dorothy and Paul in ā€œStar 80,ā€ the film based on their lives; and Larry Wilcox, producer of ā€œDeath of a Centerfold,ā€ the TV movie about Dorothyā€™s life and death.
Dorothy first met Paul, then a local pimp and club promoter, near Vancouver, British Columbia. Paul groomed Dorothy and convinced her to take professional nude photos. He submitted the pictures to Playboy which marked the beginning of her launch to fame. In Hollywood, Dorothy snagged a lead role in the prime-time TV special ā€œPlayboyā€™s Roller Disco and Pajama Party.ā€ In the last months of Dorothyā€™s life, she began an affair with Peter and tried to negotiate an amicable divorce from Paul. Paul killed Dorothy after she came to his home on Aug. 14, 1980, to discuss divorce settlements.
ā€œ20/20ā€ is anchored by David Muir and Amy Robach. David Sloan is senior executive producer.

A SINGLE OHIO MOTHER MURDERED ā€“ THE LEAD DETECTIVE PURSUES THREE INNOCENT PEOPLE WHILE THE REAL KILLER WALKS FREE ā€“ WHAT REALLY HAPPENED WITH THE SEARCH FOR CLUES? Preview
ā€œ48 Hoursā€ Investigates in ā€œGood Cop/Bad Cop: Solving the Murder of Heather Bogleā€
CBS News chief investigative and senior national correspondent Jim Axelrod and 48 HOURS investigate the murder of a single Ohio mother and the unusual police investigation into what happened in ā€œGood Cop/Bad Cop: Solving the Murder of Heather Bogleā€ to be broadcast Saturday, Oct. 19 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Her murder kicked off a year-long investigation in which the lead detective doggedly pursued three innocent people ā€“ Omar Satchel, Kayree Jeffrey and Keyona Bor ā€“ while the real killer walked free. Itā€™s a case that wrecked the life of an innocent woman, that Detective Sean Oā€™Connell pursued and delayed justice for Bogleā€™s family, who were struggling to deal with what happened to their loved one. And itā€™s a story that ultimately turns on good police work following bad work.
Bogle was 28 when she left the Sandusky County, Ohio, Whirlpool plant and headed out after an overnight shift. She then vanished and was later found a mile away from the plant brutally murdered and stuffed in the trunk of her car.
ā€œI donā€™t think anybody had a clue about the mystery, the intrigue and the story that was gonna come out of the opening of that trunk,ā€ says Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton.
Detective Oā€™Connell, investigators would later learn, ignored potentially exculpatory evidence that could have eliminated Satchel, Jeffrey and Bor as suspects. Oā€™Connell would eventually become the subject of a criminal investigation himself.
ā€œHe attempted to indict people for murder that had absolutely nothing to do with it,ā€ Hilton tells Axelrod.
Hilton ordered the investigation to begin from scratch, which included key GPS information from Bogleā€™s phone. That led them to the home of Daniel Myers ā€“ someone who worked with Bogle. They discovered evidence in his trailer that made them believe Myers was a sexual predator. After his arrest, the prosecutor says 10 women came forward and alleged he raped them.
Loriann Haley tells Axelrod, she doesnā€™t believe Bogle was Myersā€™ only murder victim. If Bogle wasnā€™t his first, who was?
Axelrod and 48 HOURS piece together an in-depth profile of Myers and his history and report the story through interviews with Hilton, Oā€™Connell, Bor and others. 48 HOURS is also in court for emotional testimony.
48 HOURS: ā€œGood Cop/Bad Cop: Solving the Murder of Heather Bogleā€ is produced by Liza Finley and Richard Fetzer. Atticus Brady is the editor. Anthony Batson is the senior broadcast producer. Patti Aronofsky is the senior producer. Nancy Kramer is the executive story editor. Judy Tygard is the executive producer.
