THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF A MARINE STATIONED IN KUWAIT INITIALLY LOOKS LIKE A TERRORIST ATTACK, BUT NCIS AGENTS REVEAL IT WAS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT, IN “NCIS: THE CASES THEY CAN’T FORGET” Preview
Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents bring viewers inside the investigation into the attack on a marine stationed in Kuwait, which at first looked like terrorism but led them on an unexpected trail to something else, in “Shattered Glass” to be broadcast Wednesday, June 5 (9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Chief Warrant Officer James “Houston” Glass was nearly killed when a grenade exploded in a guard shack in Kuwait. He barely survived the blast, suffering severe wounds to his neck, back and legs. NCIS agent Matt Timmons was stationed in Kuwait and immediately responded. The agent reveals they soon had doubts about it being a terror attack. As they dug in, they found the secret double lives of those closest to Glass, which turned the case in an unexpected direction.
“I’m really thinking, like, why did this happen here?” Timmons says. “It didn’t make sense to us…there was a better opportunity and target for the terrorists to attack versus one guy in a guard shack who, at the time, wasn’t even guarding anything….things didn’t seem to add up to us.”
NCIS agents take viewers inside the case, which took shrewd detective work, including mind games on potential suspects, to find out who would want Glass dead. The case took them back to the United States, where investigation revealed a shocking conspiracy.
“Things aren’t always what they appear to be, and people aren’t always who they appear to be,” says former NCIS agent Eric Powers, who worked on the case stateside.
A WHISTLEBLOWER SAYS HIS DREAM JOB TRAINING KILLER WHALES AT SEAWORLD TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE, ON “WHISTLEBLOWER,” FRIDAY, JUNE 7
“SeaWorld: The Case Against Captivity” – John Hargrove, a former SeaWorld senior killer whale trainer, was entranced with whales ever since he first visited the theme park as a child. But after years of working at SeaWorld, he grew to believe that the forced captivity of the whales resulted in a host of physical and behavioral issues – including aggressive and dangerous actions – and he decided to speak out and quit the job he once loved.
Host Alex Ferrer investigates the treatment of SeaWorld’s captive killer whales, on WHISTLEBLOWER, Friday, June 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Killer whales are naturally social animals that can swim up to 100 miles a day in the wild. But Hargrove witnessed firsthand the consequences of confining them to small enclosures, which, he says, sometimes resulted in the parks having to medicate the whales to help them cope with the stress of captivity. Hargrove, who was also involved in SeaWorld’s pioneering breeding program, speaks about the negative impact of separating mothers from their calves, a relationship in the wild that often lasts the duration of the mother’s life.
The final straw for Hargrove came when an experienced fellow trainer, Dawn Brancheau, was killed at SeaWorld Orlando by a 12,000 pound male orca named Tilikum. Since leaving his job, he has appeared in the acclaimed documentary “Blackfish,” written a book about his time at SeaWorld, and co-sponsored legislation to protect Orcas in California.
The episode also features interviews with two trainers who, for the first time, share their experiences with whales at SeaWorld.

‘20/20’ Airs on the West Coast Friday, June 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m. PDT), on ABC
It was a murder mystery that lingered for years. In 2011, Nique Leili, a wife and mother, was found dead near her suburban home a week after going missing. Her family immediately suspected husband Matt, who filed for divorce within days of her disappearance. Yet at the time, their two young daughters steadfastly supported their father, even posting a long YouTube video defending him. He claimed Nique was “crazy” and that she stormed off. Matt, who had installed 21 cameras and other surveillance devices in his home, was always keeping a constant watch on the spouse he did not trust and refused to help police with their investigation. It took nearly four years for prosecutors to determine there was enough evidence to charge Matt and take the case to trial. In 2016, a jury found Matt guilty of Nique’s murder. Matt’s case is currently on appeal in the Supreme Court of Georgia. ABC News’ Jim Avila reports the twists and turns in a murder mystery that captivated an entire city and beyond. “20/20” airs only on the West Coast on Friday, June 7 (10:00-11:00 pm PDT) on ABC. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 2/19/16).

Hour Documents Jordan’s More-Than-Seven Years in Juvenile Detention and How His Conviction Was Overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court
“20/20” features an interview with 21-year-old Jordan Brown, who, last year, was cleared by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court of a murder conviction he was charged with at age 11. In the interview, Jordan opens up to ABC News correspondent Juju Chang about the confusion he felt when he was first arrested for the murder of his father’s pregnant fiancée, his almost decade-long fight to clear his name, his time in juvenile detention and life now that he’s free. “20/20” airs Saturday, June 8 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 10/19/18)
“20/20” reports on the details of the case throughout the years and features interviews with Christopher Brown, Jordan’s father, who stood by his son and fought for his innocence; Jeffrey Martin, Troy Steinheiser and Robert McGraw, former Pennsylvania State Police officers who worked on the case; Dennis Elisco and Stephen Colafella, Jordan’s attorneys; John Bongivengo, the initial district attorney on the case; Marsha Levick, deputy director and chief counsel of the Juvenile Law Center that worked with Jordan’s lawyers on the case; and Bob Mayo, a local reporter who closely followed the story.
In 2009, Jordan was a typical fifth grader living in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, with his dad; Kenzie Houk (his soon-to-be step-mom) and Kenzie’s daughters, 7-year-old Jenessa and 4-year-old Adalynn. But on February 20, 2009, everything changed when Kenzie was discovered dead inside their home after Jordan and Jenessa left for school. Police found a youth-sized shotgun in the home that they claimed smelled like it had been recently fired and discovered gunshot residue on Jordan’s shirt and pants. Jordan was swiftly arrested for the crime, despite there being no DNA, blood or fingerprints linking him to the crime, and was convicted in 2012 in juvenile court of first-degree murder and first-degree homicide. In July, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unanimously overturned his conviction, citing insufficient evidence for Jordan to have been convicted.

    48 HOURS Airing Saturday, June 8 (9:00 PM) –
“48 HOURS” INVESTIGATES THE DISAPPEARANCE OF 6-YEAR-OLD ETAN PATZ AND THE CASE THAT HAUNTS THE DETECTIVES WHO SPENT MORE THAN THREE DECADES TRYING TO FIND HIM
Etan Patz walked out of his New York City home headed for a school bus stop just two blocks away. The 6-year-old never made it to school that day in 1979 – and he’s never been found.
Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS investigate the disappearance of Etan Patz and the case against Pedro Hernandez, the man charged in 2012 with killing him, in “The Lost Boy,” to be broadcast Saturday Jun 8th, 8:00 PM on the CBS Television Network.
It’s a story that shocked New York City in 1979 and to this day haunts law enforcement investigators who have spent decades trying to find him. The disappearance of the young boy is more than a missing person’s case. Indeed, it changed the way parents watched over their kids.
“I think this was one of the most significant unsolved cases in the history of New York City,” says Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr.
“Every missing child case is very important, but this was one of the oldest ones we had,” says NYPD Lieutenant Chris Zimmerman.
Patz disappeared at a time long before social media and every storefront had a video camera. He had asked his parents to let him do the short walk to the bus stop alone for the first time. He had a dollar to buy a soda at a corner deli. His parents were unaware he was missing until he didn’t return home after school. Since then, Patz’s smiling image used on missing person’s fliers is seared into the minds of people around the country.
“That photo will always haunt me. And every single day that I sent my son out to school, I thought of Etan Patz,” says attorney Brian O’Dwyer. “And I was one of eight million New Yorkers like that.”
Police began searching for Patz by going door to door. Over the years, the case would grow cold. But there was one neighborhood man police suspected of being a pedophile, whom they always had their eye on – Jose Ramos. Ramos, according to law enforcement, had said he took a child back to his apartment and molested him. Ramos told them he was 90% sure it was Patz. The case against Ramos, however, lacked corroboration, and never moved forward, says Vance.
Vance vowed to take a fresh look at Etan’s disappearance when he took office in 2010.
“I was on the hunt for the Patz family to find the killer,” Vance says.
Then in 2012, the NYPD got a tip from a relative of Pedro Hernandez, saying Hernandez had talked about hurting a boy around the time Patz disappeared. During questioning by police, Hernandez told them he choked a boy. He later took them to locations near the Patz home. Was Hernandez telling the truth?
“The facts of that confession make no sense,” says Hernandez’s attorney Harvey Fishbein. “He’s unreliable because of his psychiatric condition.”
What happened to Etan Patz? Schlesinger and 48 HOURS take viewers inside the painstaking investigation through the eyes of those who have spent years searching for the boy and trying to bring closure to his heartbroken parents.
48 HOURS: “The Lost Boy” is produced by Ruth Chenetz. Michael McHugh is the producer/editor. Murray Weiss is the development producer. Anthony Venditti is the field producer. Richard Barber and Phil Tangel are the editors. Patti Aronofsky is the senior producer. Nancy Kramer is the executive story editor. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.

Jayme Closs’ story captured the world’s hearts when she disappeared from her family’s home in Barron, Wisc. on Oct. 15, 2018. She fled her captor 88 days later. Now, 48 HOURS explores the courage Closs displayed in escaping her captor, and how her family and community have bonded to help her recover, in “Jayme Closs: Hometown Hero” to be broadcast Saturday, June 8 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“Jayme Closs: Hometown Hero” features the reporting of Gayle King, Peter Van Sant, Jim Axelrod and Adriana Diaz and focuses on the heroism Closs showed in outwitting her kidnapper, Jake Patterson.

She was found alive on Jan. 10 when she approached a woman walking her dog in a Wisconsin town about 70 miles from her home.
