Airing Saturday, April 27 – THE SUICIDE OF A 16-YEAR-OLD UTAH TEENAGER WAS A TRAGEDY, BUT WAS HOW IT HAPPENED A CRIME? Preview
“48 Hours” Investigates in “A Death in Payson Canyon” Saturday, April 27, 10:00 PM
Without question, the death by suicide of 16-year-old Utah teen Jchandra Brown on May 5, 2017 was a tragedy. But was how it happened a crime? David Begnaud and 48 HOURS investigate the death of Brown and the search to find out what really happened to her in “A Death in Payson Canyon” to be broadcast Saturday, April 27 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“A Death in Payson Canyon” is the stunning and heartbreaking story of a family, a community and authorities struggling to make sense of a young girl’s death by suicide, only to discover that her friend, who had many opportunities to stop her, helped her complete the act instead. The broadcast also explores the broader issue of teen depression.
“Jchandra was my world. She was my life,” says the teen’s mother, Susan Bryan. “When Jchandra died, my heart shattered.”
Brown’s body was found by a turkey hunter in the woods in Payson Canyon, Utah. To police, the scene initially looked like a clear-cut case of suicide. It was anything but that. There were clues that something wasn’t right. Nearby, police found a note.
“It says, ‘My name’s Jchandra Brown and I hated my life,’” says Utah County Sheriff’s Detective Quinten Fackrell. “‘Watch the video. It’s on my phone.’”
Brown’s phone, also found nearby, contained a 10-minute video of her suicide that was shot by someone she knew. They found two grocery bags as well, one of which had a receipt for rope, purchased with a debit card belonging to Tyerell Przybycien.
As police continued searching the area where Brown was found, Przybycien walked up.
“He introduces himself to me as Tyerell Przybycien,” recalls Sgt. Josh Chappell. “And he goes, ‘I think you want to talk to me. I need to tell you the whole story.’”
Przybycien told police he was just helping Jchandra do what she wanted to do, but detectives later discovered new evidence that showed this may have been Tyerell’s plan all along – such as a text he sent to a friend stating, “It’s like getting away with murder.” And with that, Utah County prosecutors decided to charge Przybycien with first-degree murder.
“In his mind, I don’t think that he was committing murder. He was helping her do what she wanted to do,” says Neil Skousen, Przybycien’s attorney.
“This goes beyond making bad mistakes,” says Prosecutor Chad Grunander. “This was criminal behavior. There’s no doubt in my mind that Jchandra does not die on May 5, 2017, if she had never met Tyerell.”
David Begnaud and 48 HOURS explore the events that brought Jchandra Brown and Tyerell Przybycien together in the remote woods in Payson Canyon that evening, leaving one dead and the other on trial for murder.
48 HOURS: “A Death in Payson Canyon” is produced by Josh Gelman.

After Cameron “Cam” Underwood tried to commit suicide at age 24 by shooting himself in the face, his life was saved by doctors; but he was left disfigured, missing teeth, a chin, cheekbones and a facial structure. In December 2017, Cam underwent a life-changing face transplant surgery that took over 25 hours to perform. More than two years after that tragic day, “20/20”co-anchor Amy Robach sat down with Cam who shared his new face with the world and opened up about his surgery and new lease on life. The hour also features Cam’s emotional meeting with Sally Fisher, the mother of his face donor, Will Fisher. “20/20” airs only on the West Coast, Friday, April 26 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. PDT), on ABC. Cam was an athletic young man who worked in his stepfather’s business after high school graduation, earning enough money to buy a house by age 19. However, over a period of years during which he broke up with his longtime girlfriend, drifted from a close friend, saw his dear brothers move out of state and was dealing with stress from his work, Cam began to suffer from depression and developed a drinking problem. After his suicide attempt, Cam was rushed to University of California Davis Medical Center where he underwent multiple surgeries. But his life would never be the same and he started to wear a mask everywhere he went. After learning about the life-changing face transplant surgery that Dr. Rodriguez could perform on him, Cam waited for a perfect donor with the same skin tone, skull size, hair color, a full set of teeth and the same blood type. Cam found a match in Will who died after a long struggle with mental illness. With the blessing of Will’s mother, Cam received the transplant.

Episode Title: ‘20/20’ TRAVELS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND TO CHINA INVESTIGATING FENTANYL, THE DRUG THAT KILLED PRINCE AND HAS BEEN LINKED TO THOUSANDS OF DEATHS NATIONWIDE
    Hour Features Interview With Prince’s Half-Sister on His Death – ‘20/20’ Airs Saturday, April 27 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC
Music superstar Prince’s death shocked the world when he overdosed on counterfeit prescription pills, made of the synthetic opioid fentanyl. Over three years later, deaths from similar black market pills continue to plague the country. ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff investigates the crisis by shedding light on families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl and traveling to China in search of some of the undercover labs that are responsible for online sales and shipping the drug to the United States. “20/20” also features a rare interview with Prince’s half-sister, Sharon Nelson, who opens up on what killed him and her family’s crusade to find the source of his deadly pills. “20/20” airs Saturday, April 27 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (Rebroadcast. ABC OAD: 9/28/18)
Woodruff investigates online fentanyl sales; goes on a ride along with authorities in Lawrence, Massachusetts, who are cracking down on fentanyl street sales; and to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City where customs agents are fighting a nonstop battle to detect incoming packages of fentanyl.
“20/20” tells the stories of Tosh Ackerman, Catherine Brady and Tiffanie Scott, all of whom took what appeared to be anti-anxiety pills or painkillers that turned out to be counterfeits made with fentanyl. Ackerman, a 29-year-old from Santa Cruz, took what he believed was a Xanax. The next morning, he was found dead due to the fake pill. In Kissimmee, Florida, Brady was found dead inside boyfriend Eric Falkowski’s home. After her death, authorities discovered bags of bogus pills and raw fentanyl powder inside the residence, evidence of Falkowski’s counterfeit pill operation. After being released on bail, Falkowski fled to a town outside Nashville, Tennessee, and restarted pill production. Shortly after his arrival in Tennessee, 20 overdose calls were made in a 24-hour period in the nearby town of Murfreesboro. Authorities traced the outbreak to Falkowski and an accomplice.

Airing Saturday, April 27 – 11:29PM “Hand me my armor” was the catchphrase of a recent Sara Bareilles single, but she won’t be the only person on “Saturday Night Live” April 6 who could make that request. Harington will be using the April 6 episode to help herald the arrival of the final season of “Game of Thrones,” which begins April 14 on HBO.
Bareilles will have an even slightly timelier reason to appear on the show. Her new T Bone Burnett-produced album, “Amidst the Chaos,” which includes the “Armor” single, will be released the day before the NBC telecast.
