Katie: This is why I left you, bill. But it’s also why I love you.
[ Bill sighing ]
Carter: You’re thinking about it too, huh?
Katie: You mean what happened earlier at your place?
Carter: Big step.
Katie: It’s a major step. And both of us kind of said “it,” without saying it, you know? We don’t need those three little words, even though that’s what we were feeling.
Carter: Are feeling.
Katie: Yeah. Mm-hmm. I know that neither one of us really wanted to rush things. Wanted to take our time getting to know each other.
Carter: Mm-hmm.
Katie: And I’m glad we did.
Carter: Me too. In fact, you know, you can stay here and we can keep getting to know each other.
Katie: Oh? Really?
Carter: You don’t need to go see bill, do you?
Sheila: You know– what– what is this room? I’ve never been in here before.
Guard: Your visitor, it’s another inmate.
Sheila: Another inmate.
Mike: Hey, doll face.
Carter: Bill’s made it more than clear that he wants you back.
Katie: Well, contrary to what bill spencer might think, he doesn’t always get what he wants.
Brooke: Oh! Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t mean to interrupt.
Katie: Uh, that’s okay. I was just leaving. I have a date with bill.
Brooke: Oh!
Katie: I’ll see you later.
Carter: Have fun.
Katie: Bye.
Sheila: I can’t believe it.
Mike: Yeah.
Sheila: Oh, it’s really you.
Mike: Your old pal, mike guthrie, in the flesh. Surprise, surprise.
Sheila: It certainly is.
Mike: Believe it or not. I’m still in this place. We’re staying in the same five star high class joint. But I wanted to check on you and make sure you were okay myself. I heard about the heart episode. I was worried about you. How’s the ticker?
Sheila: Still ticking.
Mike: But you’re doing better now, right? I mean, look at you. You look like a mill.
Sheila: Oh, I guess it’s the, uh, the five star cuisine that they’ve been feeding me.
Mike: Glad to see you haven’t lost your sense of humor. Kind of hard not to. This place.
Sheila: Yeah. You know, I– I never thought… that I’d be locked up again.
Mike: Oh, yeah. Didn’t expect your savior, bill spencer, to double cross you either. But holy moly, babe, did he ever.
Katie: Don’t tell me you picked those yourself?
Bill: What if I said I did?
Katie: I would ask you what you’ve done with the real bill spencer.
Bill: So, I thought we would, uh, eat by the pool. The chef is setting it up now.
Katie: That sounds nice.
Bill: You know, since you wouldn’t have dinner with me the other night.
Katie: It’s not that I wouldn’t have dinner with you. I just had other plans.
Bill: Other plans. Hm. Like a yoga class.
Katie: Sort of.
Bill: Well. Since the other night didn’t pan out, I’m glad today did. I am seeing you here. In this house. The house where we raised our son. It just feels right, katie. Like you’re finally home. What’s the #1 retinol brand
Mike: Must be rough, being back in the slammer again.
Sheila: I– I hate this. Being locked up like a caged animal, just wondering if this is the way that– that I’m gonna be spending the rest of my life.
Mike: Don’t go there. One day at a time.
Sheila: Yeah, well, that might work for you, but not me. I spend every waking moment trying to figure a way out of this place.
Mike: Well, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
Sheila: Whose side are you on?
Mike: Yours. Always. I pulled a lot of strings to come over here, to visit you. I thought a friendly face might help. Look. You know how I feel about you. On the outside, I can’t compete with the forresters, those handsome chiselled jaws. But in here? Yours truly, not so bad. I mean, look around. Suddenly, mike guthrie’s a real catch. There. There’s that smile.
Sheila: I appreciate it. I really appreciate you, mike.
Mike: I bet I know what else is bothering you. I know how much you love your son. I bet you’re missing finn something fierce.
Sheila: You have no idea. But not to worry. I have a plan to see my son again very soon.
Carter: So basically, bill wants another shot to convince katie to take him back. You know, bill being himself, the man never gives up.
Brooke: Even though he probably should.
Carter: If that’s your way of asking me if I think if katie is totally over him.
Brooke: Well, I see the way katie looks at you, and it’s obvious your relationship is… progressing. I mean, bill must see that too.
Carter: Of course he does. That’s why he invited her over to the house. That’s why she’s there now. This is how it’s gonna go. Bill’s gonna remind her of their relationship, all the good things. You know, their marriage. And then he’s gonna go into the family they created with will, and then, he is going to apologize. He is gonna say sorry for hurting her over and over again. And then, he’ll promise never to do it again. And don’t get me started on all the jewelry.
Brooke: The jewelry.
Carter: I’m sorry, I’m saying more than I should.
Brooke: No, you don’t have to apologize to me. I know you care about katie.
[ Brooke giggling ]
Carter: Confession?
Brooke: [ Whispering ] Yes!
Carter: Earlier today, katie and I basically said “I love you” to each other.
[ Brooke gasping ]
Brooke: What? Really?
Carter: Mm-hmm.
Brooke: Oh, my god, I’m so happy for you two. I’m so happy.
Carter: Thank you. Thank you. And that’s why I think I’m so worked up. I’m just– I’m not crazy about her being with bill right now. I don’t trust him.
Brooke: Yeah.
Carter: Especially when it comes to your sister.
Bill: I still don’t know how he pulled it off. What was he, like five or six? And he– and he tapes $5 bills all over the wall spelling out “happy birthday daddy?” Right– right there. Right on that wall. So, I would come down the stairs and see them first thing in the morning. You remember that?
Katie: I– of course I remember it. I was the one who gave him the money.
Bill: Of course you were.
Katie: But the idea was all his.
Bill: Well, he always knew how to get on his old man’s good side, didn’t he?
Katie: He always worshipped the ground you walked on. He still does.
Bill: You miss him as much as I do?
Katie: Every moment of every day.
Bill: I miss his mom, too.
Katie: Bill, I know what you’re doing and… I haven’t forgotten our family and the wonderful moments that we’ve shared.
Bill: I’m glad to hear that. And there are more good times to be had, and there are more memories to make. As a family. As a couple.
Katie: Bill, I can’T.
Bill: Because of carter? People call it the biggest smalltown festival in minnesota.
Carter: Katie’s her own woman. She’ll make the right decision for her life. For herself.
Brooke: Carter, you don’t have to like that bill’s trying to win katie back.
Carter: Let’s face it, brooke. We all know bill loves you.
Brooke: Bill is a part of my past. A past that I don’t plan on revisiting.
Carter: I get that. And I understand, but still, katie doesn’t deserve to be anyone’s second choice. She’s too special for that.
Bill: You and carter, it’s that serious?
Katie: We never expected it to go anywhere. You know, we’ve been colleagues for a long time. We just started spending time together and we realized that… we like spending time together. I admire him and I respect him.
Bill: Okay. I understand that he comes with a lot of baggage of his own.
Katie: If you’re talking about–
Bill: I’m talking about, well, to put it mildly, that whole mess with quinn. A lot of people got hurt, katie.
Katie: Yeah. And nobody knows that more than carter, and he regrets that it went as far as it did.
Bill: Well, I have plenty of regrets of my own. Most importantly, not cherishing what you and I had when we had it. Losing your faith and your trust. Now, if carter can learn from his mistakes, can’t I do the same? Can you give me that much?
Katie: Of course. Yes, of course. I– I’m not angry. I– I’m not resentful. I am not trying to hold you to a higher standard. I care about you, bill. I always will.
Bill: But you care about carter more? All right. Look, um, I’m gonna ask you a question. I want you to be straight with me. What exactly is going on between you and carter?
[ Katie scoffing ]
Mike: Why would you expect finn, the son you shot–
Sheila: Accidentally.
Mike: Why would you expect him to come and see you?
Sheila: Okay. Well, you already know about my heart attack.
Mike: Yeah. So?
Sheila: Well, I put in a request to be seen by my attending physician.
Mike: Your son.
Sheila: Precisely. Mike, look, finn could have let me die, but he didn’T. I think that speaks volumes, don’t you?
Mike: Well, obviously you’re hoping it does.
Sheila: I’m still his birth mother. I’m the one that gave him life. And somewhere, deep down, I just, I– I know he still loves me. He’s gonna forgive me. He’s gonna accept me and I can’t just sit back waiting for that to happen. I’ve got to make that happen.
Mike: Never ceases to amaze me. Your willingness to keep fighting. But come on, sheila. You gotta be realistic. The fbi nailed you. You confessed to murder one. Those are some big obstacles.
Sheila: Yeah. But where there’s a will, there’s a way. And make no mistake, mike, I have the will. No two bodies are the same.
Sheila: Mike. I don’t intend on spending the rest of my life in this hellhole.
Mike: Like I haven’t heard that before.
Sheila: You’re doubting me.
Mike: Oh, no. No. I learned a long time ago not to do that. But I’ll say it again. The situation is different. You confessed to killing two people.
Sheila: No. No, not two. Just one, okay? The other one was an accident. Besides, I won’t be doing this on my own. I’m gonna have help from the outside.
Mike: Who? Sheila, I don’t mean any offense, but you’re poison. Nobody’s gonna touch you. Look, it’s time to face facts. Sheila, you’re gonna be in this place a long, long time.
Guard: You got a visitor.
Sheila: I do?
Guard: You emailed him.
Mike: Seriously, sheila?
Sheila: He got my email. He’s coming. Okay.
Mike: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you doing? Who are you seeing? Damn it, sheila. Answer me!
Sheila: I’m ready.
Mike: Ready for what? Sheila, come on, talk to me. Sheila, wait. Sheila! I love you!
Katie: I don’t wanna talk about carter and me. I– I wanna talk about you and me.
Bill: Well, I always like the sound of that.
Katie: I appreciate you too, bill. I do. And not just because you’re will’s father, but because of everything we’ve shared and everything that we’ve meant to each other. I can see that you are the man that I always knew you were, that you’re at your best. You’re the man who put sheila carter away for good.
Sheila: What room is this?
Guard: All right. Here you go.
Sheila: Oh, god, that feels good.
Guard: Make yourself comfortable.
Sheila: Thanks. Thank you for coming. You won’t be disappointed, I promise you.
