THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

ava, I’m so sorry. Now’s not a good — you have a lot to answer for, husband. I would love to talk. How about later at the pc grill? Mm. How about now? No, now doesn’t work for me because you can’t be here.

[ Door rattling ]

[ Sighs ] I don’t know how big your brain is yet, but…I’m gonna need all the help I can get. How are we going to get out of here? Cyrus: Tear-aways. Hello, nephew. Tear-aways? Men tear pictures of women out of the men’s lifestyle magazines.

[ Scoffs ] That’s pathetic. Prison’s a lonely place. The magazines are full of holes. Just like your redemption story. Sorry. Hey. I had to train the manager who’s going to sub for me. Hey. Are you looking forward to your trip? It’s not a trip, dad. It’s a management intensive. Ah. Well [Sighs] I’m dying to hear all about it, but bear in mind, I’m starving, so I don’t want you hogging all the crostini. There’s going to be plenty of food. We are overdue for a — a family meal. Yes. Which guard have you got today, dad? Frank? Or is dex finally back? You scared me. You don’t scare easily. I’m always scared.

[ Chuckles ] I just manifest it as righteous indignation.

[ Monitor beeping ] So was it your fear that made you goad my attacker in your paper?

[ Cellphone rings ] Hi, robert. Did you find lucy?

No. And I don’t like it. Her assistant said that the event on her calendar was a direct reminder from victor about a sunset cruise leaving from pier 47. But, um… there’s no sign of her. No sign of a boat either. W-what are you doing here?

[ Gunshots firing ]

Dex is back. Matter of fact,he’s in the alcove. I’m glad you finally backed off thinking dex was a person of interest. That made no sense whatsoever. It kind of did, actually, kristina. It was preliminary stages of the investigation. We’ve since found evidence that points us in a different direction. I told you.

[ Scoffs lightly ]

Both of you. For a minute there, I thought you lost confidence in dex, too. That’s because for a minute there I did. So you know about the open letter? Well, as you might imagine, I’ve been very busy the last few days, but I have managed to find time to read a few things. And my reading material of choice is the invader. Oh. Well, thank you for your readership.

[ Chuckles ] When I saw you on that garage floor, I just wanted to do something. I wanted to get the maniac. I wanted to smoke him out, to goad him into slipping. Mnh-mnh. Her. Definitely a woman. Either way, good job on keeping your presence of mind to make that partial I.D.

[ Beeping continues ] I just thought the open letter was — was a — it was a good idea at the time. And now there’s another attack, so I hope I didn’t provoke her. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Objection, counselor. Speculation. You and I both know a serial killer doesn’t need an excuse to kill. I wasn’t the first victim. I’m certainly not going to be the last. I mean, it stands to reason. You made a valiant effort, and I so appreciate it. Still, I would hate it if I were responsible for anyone else having to go through what you have gone through. Hey, I’m still standing. Well, or, you know, lying. Sitting. Anyway, listen. And aside from…reading your provocative journalism, this has given me a chance to put a few things in perspective. Like what? Like… am I living my life to its fullest, hmm? Maybe there’s something else out there that I have been missing. “K-nock, k-nock.” There’s a sight for sore eyes. So was uncle victor telling the truth? Truth about what? He said that you decided to divorce me. Were you planning to tell me that our marriage is over, or was I just going to answer the door one day at nina’s and be served with papers? It’s not what you think. I… I don’t know to think. My head is spinnin’. Last I checked, you wanted this to work. I do. More than anything. Why does victor think otherwise? Look, I’d really rather not waste my time and resources bringing you back into line, but I will if I have to. I won’t be intimidated into giving up my wife. Well, I can’t say I blame you. Ava is a spectacular woman. Beautiful. Ruthless. Oh, and that wicked sense of humor. But, sadly, she’s also far too much for you to handle. He probably got the wrong idea because I’ve been so cynical about our chances. I mean, it’s not exactly like you’ve been giving me hope. Do you think you deserve it? Probably not. But I will spend the rest of my life trying to win you back. And I won’t let anyone stand in our way. I know I’m asking a lot of you. You’re the only reason nikolas hasn’t wrung my neck. Mnh! Ugh! Let’s try this again now, shall we? You’re my ace in the hole, kid. Your daddy knows it. That’s why he’s trapped us in here. I really know how to pick ’em.

[ Chuckles ] Just wait until you meet your brother spencer. You are right to be skeptical. In my previous life, I was a scoundrel by every definition. But I’m no longer that man. Now you’re reformed.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. I was faithless once, too. Oh, I have faith. Just not in men who say one thing and then do another. Oh, like your father. Or like yourself. You don’t know me. We’re family. No. No. I’m a cassadine. And family is simply a means to an end for us.

[ Sighs ] Now, that saddens me because I value family greatly. Martin and laura — do not say my grandmother’s name. I only meant to convey how much I regret pushing away the two people I wish to be closest to. In you, I see an opportunity to make amends. I’m sorry, but the adopt-an-inmate program has been discontinued.

[ Laughs ] That’s funny. This, uh, this uniform isn’t really your size, is it? And I — I heard that your bedding went missing again. Now, you could continue to endure this hazing, or you could let me look out for you.

[ Door opens ] Book: Careful. You rely on this old man, you won’t last another 10 minutes in this place.

[ Hushed ] I repeat, shots fired, pier 55.

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Water lapping ] Victor: Lucy? Lucy? What…? What’s that? Is that lucy’s shoe?

You work for sonny, don’t you? I’m working right now. Mr. Corinthos is having dinner with your daughter. Kristina’s here?

[ Sighs ] Oh, well, it’s a good thing we didn’t order anything yet. No! Yeah. I’m sorry. Duty calls, but raincheck on the family dinner? Yeah? Fine. Okay. I’ll see you. Thanks for nothing.

[ Chuckles ] Love you guys. Love you. What are you doing here? Well, I might ask you the same thing. I heard shots. As did I. I was on my way to meet lucy at pier 47 when I heard the shots. I told my driver to pull over in case someone needed assistance, but I don’t see anyone here. Aside from you, that is. I was at pier 47. Lucy’s not there. Well, then where could she be? She’s not answering my calls. Oh, I hope nothing’s happened to her. Oh, if it has, I’ll feel so responsible. I’ll never forgive myself.

Are you responsible? Well, it’s my fault if she was out here alone. I — I was running late, you see. And, well, if that shoe’s any indication, she was waiting at the wrong docks. Ah. It’s still voicemail. So you arrived just now with your driver? I’m going to call pcpd. I already did. I just want to make sure they’re en route. I’ll call the harbormaster. Prison is all about partnerships, cassadine. I’m just trying to keep my head down, so… well, you can go that route, but the attention you’re getting won’t, uh, stop at your fluff-and-folds. Take your hands off him. It’s all about who you know. Ain’t that right, old man? Now, you might think you have it made, but those corinthos guys? They can’t be everywhere all the time. And the best you’ll get by aligning yourself with this prehistoric pusher is an extra helping at meal time. So, you’re suggesting my nephew throw in with your lot, book? Like I said… no one can watch after you 24/7 in a place like this. It’s dangerous… and random. What do you want? I want my work assignment back. Mm-hmm. Where are you now? Laundry. Mystery solved. So, what do you say? Real protection for my old gig back. Ava: You’d fight for us? You want me that much? Clearly… you want me, too. How arrogantly presumptuous. Admit it. Ava, you still love me and you don’t want to give up on us any more than I do. I admit nothing. Then why are you here? Ava, the minute you think that I’m going to throw in the towel, and you show up? Don’t flatter yourself. Do you have another reason for being here? Yeah. Yeah, as a matter of fact, I do. I — I have to take inventory before I close the gallery, and I left some files in the tower. So I’ll go get them, and — and we can continue this conversation when it’s more convenient for you. Whoa, whoa. Wait, wait. You can’t go up there.

[ Chuckles ] Why not? What is really going on here?

I am very proud… of all my children. Even michael? I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to chase alexis off. Oh, you didn’T. We had a long and lovely visit. So what can I do for you? Have you apprehended my assailant? Not as yet. But I thought I’d drop in and see how you were doing. Went into the icu, they said you’d been upgraded, which, of course, I expected, you being a tough cookie and all.

[ Chuckles ] Well, I try.

[ Monitor beeping ] I guess this is the universe’s way, though, of telling me I should slow down. Too bad the universe can’t give us these messages in a less painful format. Indeed. So what can I do for you? I’m assuming, since there’s no update, you have some more questions for me? Yeah. I was wondering if, you know, some other little details may have crossed your mind. It — it can be totally insignificant. I’m sorry, robert. I’ve tried. Uh, I… aside from the fact that it was a woman with her jangly bracelets, the only thing I can remember is my life flashing before my eyes. That’s a thing, you know. They say that happens. Well, it’s true. Yeah. I’ve been there before… once or twice. Why exactly were you meeting lucy here? We were taking a sunset cruise. Really? I don’t see a boat. Hmm? Oh, yes, I — I know. Why do you suppose her shoe’s here?

[ Exhales sharply ] I haven’t a clue. What brought you to the docks, anna? I told you. Anna. I’ve got a call about a missing or abducted person. You know anything about that? Okay, so I believe that the shoe belongs to lucy coe. We found it down here. Well, actually, to be accurate, ms. Devane found the shoe. I arrived shortly after the gunshots. Two gunshots, quick succession. Small caliber weapon. I can’t be certain that this is the precise origin, but if lucy’s missing… is lucy missing? W-well, it — it seems so. We were supposed to meet here, and lucy’s nowhere on the docks, and my — my calls go to voicemail. Okay. Cordon off the area. Get csi down here, forensics. We need an underwater dive team with sonar equipment, okay? I’ll call the commissioner. So, detective, what do you think happened here tonight? I don’t know, victor… but I’m gonna find out. And I’m gonna start with you.

[ Esme growls ] Aah! Aah!

[ Screams ]

[ Screaming ] Nikolas: A pipe burst in the north tower. It’s unsafe to go up there, ava, and it’s a mess. Well, my files will be ruined. No, no. Don’t worry. Everything was boxed up. It was moved to a different area. There was no damage. Okay, well, thank you. Yeah. When the tower is structurally sound, I will grab your files and I will get them to you. Okay? Are you trying to get rid of me? No, it’s just the opposite, ava. It’s just you reminded me I have to get back to checking how the work is coming. It’s night. I know. But I have to meet the foreman tomorrow morning. I like to be hands-on. Can I walk you out? Yeah. Okay. I said that I would meet nina for dinner, anyway. Uh… so… about what uncle victor said… nothing could be further from the truth. I am telling you myself, there is no third-party intervention needed. I want you, ava. Ball’s in your court. Goodnight, then. Well, albeit a tempting offer… I think I’ll watch my own back. You heard my nephew. Mm-hmm.

[ Grunting ] Oh!

[ Gasps ] What was that? Feels like butterflies. Are you moving around or just giving me indigestion? Either way, I suppose you’re right.

[ Sighs ] Can’T… fall apart now and start feeling sorry for myself. I won’t give up.

We won’t give up.

[ Sighs ]

[ Sniffles ]

[ Lock disengages ] We did it, ace.

It’s all fabulous, it’s all glad. Let’s go see your grandfather. Esme. Going somewhere? Like I said, you know, um… I’m proud of all my — my kids, michael included. Even though we’re not blood related, he’s the one that’s most like me. I never thought he — he would be. He’s the first child that I raised. You think you know how it feels to be a parent until you become one. But aren’t things still tense between you and michael? “Tense” is an understatement. I… um…it’s over. I think it’s done. I don’t believe that. Michael is hurt and angry, but I know underneath all of that… he loves you, and he always will. Like you and alexis? Hi. Hi, mom. Um, have you heard anything from diane? Yeah, I just came from the hospital. She’s out of the icu, and she’s recovering by leaps and bounds. Well, that’s good to hear. Listen, have a seat. You can join us. I got to take care of something. Oh. Okay. I-I’ll just sit for a bit, ’cause I-I don’t want to take away time from your dinner with your dad. Either way. Diane said that you called. That was very thoughtful. She’s your best friend. Almost an aunt. True. I also saw the flowers that you sent to brando’s memorial. I’m sorry I had to miss it, but I’m getting ready to go out of town, and I can’t take off work right before I leave. But I’m sure you think me slinging drinks and wings is not as important as missing my cousin’s funeral. You know, the bible says if someone smite thee on thy cheek, turn to him also the other. Glad god approves.

[ Grunts ] Aah! Ah! It also tells us to put on the full armor of god that ye can stand against the wiles of satan.

[ Grunts ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Move…on. And if I don’t? You gonna drop the spiritual act and do what? Only god can judge you!

[ Door opens ] Problem here? No. He’s got a shiv. What? That so, book? No, I don’T. Well, looks like you’ve earned yourself solitary confinement. That’s not mine! This is bs! Aah! Now, what were we discussing before we were so rudely interrupted? You ha ve calls and texts you canback of your statement with? Yes. Yes, of course, detective. Valentin, when you get this, you want to call me immediately. It’s about lucy. Okay? Calling my son? None of your business. Well, I am right here, anna, and I do have ears. Well, he’s unreachable, isn’t he, as well you know. I-it’s such a coincidence, isn’t it, that he’s on his way to switzerland when all of this is happening. Wait, are you accusing my son of something? Charlotte has an equestrian event. She’d like her father there. That’s the only reason he’s there instead of here. That’s understandable, isn’t it, given how long it is since he’s seen her. Well, it’s quite natural for a father to want to support his daughter. What is a little less understandable is why you should feel the need to loop valentin into lucy’s situation. Because valentin is a major shareholder in lucy’s company, isn’t he? Oh, yes, of course. That’s right. I — I underestimated how heavily invested valentin is in deception. Officers are headed to lucy’s home and office. Your driver corroborated your statement, mr. Cassadine. Ah, good. So I’m free to go? Yeah. You can leave the pier. I mean, I don’t think it’ll do you any favors if you actually leave town. Oh, no, of course not. I’m not going anywhere. Please let me know if you find out anything. Oh, it’s all so troubling. I do hope lucy didn’t meet with foul play. I should have known how enterprising you can be after you stalked ava, framed trina, and you seduced me. Oh, it didn’t take much seducing. And I may be enterprising, but you aren’t remotely equipped for this. Do you really think you can just shove me in a room for six months without any preparation or planning? What is this? Amateur hour? How was I ever snowed by you? Oh, like father, like son. Shut up! You have taken everything from me. You blew up my marriage. My son is in pentonville. All because you came into our lives. I am so sick of you! What are you going to do to me? I’ll scream. Go ahead. Nobody’s coming for you.

How you holding up? Oh, good, boss. Yeah, you can go. You want to take off for a couple hours? ‘Cause dante left, and i just ordered with kristina. No, I can stay. Listen, I-I want to — I want to thank you for not holding what happened to you against me. Mistakes were made. You were treated unfairly. But one thing I just want to sayis the good thing that came out of this is now I know how strong you are, and most importantly, how discreet you are. That’s very, very important in this business. I just hope I’ve proved my loyalty. Loyalty is very important… it’s very rare, and I don’t take that for granted. Ava, twice in one day. What a delight. For you it is. I’m sorry. Have I offended you in some way? Have you forgotten the glad tidings you brought me earlier… ah. …About my husband’s plans to divorce me? No, but I have to say I’m a little surprised at your reaction. I mean, considering how my nephew betrayed you, I’d have thought you’d want to be well rid of him. We’ve been over this several times, uncle victor. Let me try it again. My marriage is none of your concern. Of course. Nevertheless, allow me to be candid for a moment. Much as I care about nikolas…

[ Sighs ] …He’s hardly your equal. Spencer: You set book up? Well, that’s one way of looking at it, yeah. Did you know that the guard was going to come back, or was that just luck? I believe in blessings, not luck. But I can tell you I’ve got connections book knows nothing about. People often mistake bluster for power, but real power is much quieter. Doesn’t the bible also say something about bearing false witness?

[ Laughs ] Ah, apparently god’s not through with me yet. Evidently not.

[ Sighs ] It’s hard to reconcile sometimes, but there’s a spiritual world and there’s a real world. It’s — it’s not my job to take book off this planet, but i can remove him from your sphere, at least temporarily. And who knows? Maybe he’ll think twice approaching you the next time. Well, I guess I should thank you. I’ll settle for the benefit of the doubt. So tell me, are all of your injuries work related? Thank you. You don’t have a scar or a broken bone from something a little more pedestrian? Well, um, there was a scar from my cancer surgery.

[ Chuckles ] I’m not letting you see that until you buy me dinner. Or — or — well, maybe vice versa. Oh?

[ Chuckles softly ] Oh, don’t make me laugh. Ooh.

[ Monitor beeping ] Point taken.

[ Clears throat ] And point made. You are no stranger to brushes with death. For me, until this scar, which is very pretty, the closest I ever came was a broken pinkie toe from sliding into third in elementary school. You’re a tomboy? Shh. Not so loud. Everyone thinks I’m real classy.

[ Chuckles ] Ah, that tracks actually. But you get extra brownie points because of the fact somebody came after you with a hook. That never happened to me. It’s not a thrill I recommend.

[ Clicks tongue ] I can recall the times when i thought I was going to cark it. I felt… very uncomfortable at that… vulnerability. Maybe that’s why you and i have such empowering jobs. Or perhaps we’re just as tough as old boot leather.

[ Laughs ] Well, in any case… coming face-to-face with my mortality has been sobering. “We are not now that strength…” “…which in old days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are, one equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate… but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.” Well, I-I was looking for lucy on pier 47, and I heard two shots, and they seem to come from this direction. So I arrived on the scene probably three, four minutes later. No one was here. Something caught my eye. It was the shoe. I — look, I-I can’t swear that that’s lucy’s shoe, but it’s definitely her style. Okay. Uh, back up. Why were you looking for lucy in the first place? I was worried for her safety. I thought maybe she was in jeopardy. Why would you be worried for her safety?

[ Camera shutter clicks in distance ] Anna, it can’t be a coincidence that you and victor were on the same dock. It’s not. I believe that he knew lucy was going to be here on pier 55, not 47, which is where I was informed she would be. Informed by who? Anna, do you think that victor had something to do with lucy’s disappearance? Yeah, I do. I can’t prove it, but yes. Okay. Well, I trust your gut. So, assuming that lucy is missing, why would victor target her? She was working for me… to get information out of victor so I could bring him down. I know, I know. She’s a civilian. I know. I was trying to get her to stop, but she refused. So I called her office to find out where she was, and they said that she was going on some sunset cruise with victor leaving from pier 47. I got down here. I came to try to extract her from the situation, but then I heard the shots. I came here. I found the shoe. So you think victor’s on to her? Yeah. I mean, an hour ago, I had no reason to think so. But now… I believe that he’s found out somehow… and he’s done something about it.

I’m sure you think I’m crazy to be taking off for this intensive. I mean, why go to the trouble to become a better manager when all I manage is a pub? Your job is important to you. And what’s important to you… matters to me. But…it’s just a job and not a career. I admit, sometimes I question the way you go about thiS. I’m not even going to pretend not to know why. But I see you being responsible, being enthusiastic, being recognized for doing a good job. And you seem happy. I am happy. That’s what’s most important. And what else is important is that I never want you to think that I’m not proud of you, honey. I am so proud of you. I had the best working for me — dedicated, steadfast. But he’s gone now. I know I can’t fill his shoes, but… I’d like to try. You kept your head. You came through for me. I need a lieutenant that I can trust. I’m your guy. In fact, I think I’m ready for a new challenge. Can you think of anything more important than protecting my family? No, sir. I’d like to get to know you better, spencer, but…perhaps I’m asking too much. So… cyrus, wait. This just arrived this morning. This is william tyndale’s 1534 translation of the new testament. That’s a seminal version. It contains his — his prefaces and his notes, and… well, I haven’t logged it into the system yet, so it’s yours if you’d like it. Bless you. Well, it seems only fair — a book for a book. And now I don’t owe you anything. Eh, you never did.

[ Pounding on door ] Esme: Nikolas!

[ Pounding on door ] Nikolas! Help!

[ Pounding on door ]

[ Esme screaming ] Let me out! You can’t leave me in a locked bathroom! Who is going to stop me? Nikolas, please. You’ve made your point. I shouldn’t have tried to leave when you were just trying to help me. I’m clearing this room, esme. You’ve lost your privilege of luxury. For the sake of the baby, I’m not going to make you sleep on the floor, but you’ll have little else. Nikolas, I am a mother of your child, not some prisoner! Do this and you’ll be sorry! I’m already sorry.

[ Pounding on door ] Let me out! Robert, I did not peg you for a lover of poetry. Nice to know I’ve got some surprises left. We ll, it will be no surprisewhen you catch that killer. But please make it soon. I’m doing my damnedest to make things safe for you again.

[ Monitor beeping ] You know… …I do like sparring with you in court. Going to be a while before we do that again. Guess I’ll just have to… come and spar in here. I’ll look forward to it, counselor.

[ Door opens ] I really do care for nikolas, but I’m also very aware of his limitations. And frankly, ava, you’re just too much woman for him.

[ Chuckles ] What is that supposed to mean? Oh, I think you know… but I’ll spell it out for you. You’re full of life, ava. You’re…vivacious and beguiling, a force of nature. I hate to see such a woman… wasted on the wrong man. Not that it’s one iota of your business, but who, pray tell, is the right man? One who would repay your loyalty with devotion of his own. You have someone in mind, have you?

[ Chuckles ] Well, as you americans say. I should… stay in my own lane. Suffice it to say, I do know the crushing disappointment of putting one’s trust in the wrong person. You and I, ava, we both deserve better. If victor is on to lucy, then he’s on to all of us, which means that this investigation is compromised and victor won’t be charged for his crimes. You’re talking about luke spencer’s death.

[ Exhales sharply ] God, I should never have done this. Hey. I should never have enlisted lucy to work victor. I was trying to keep her safe. Hey, for all we know, she still is. What are the odds of lucy leaving a designer shoe on the docks willingly? We have to assume that he’s figured it out and he’s dealt with her, and we both know what he’s capable of. But we know lucy… and what she’s capable of. She is relentless, and if anyone can survive victor, it’s her.

[ Grunting ]
