THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

that’s very generous of you to help me sort through my brother’s things. Most people want nothing to do with peter august, alive or dead. I mean, it’s the least I can do to repay you for convincing me to get a dna test, figure out whether or not the chief of detectives is my dad.

[ Chuckles ] Well, if mac really is your father, you have a lot to celebrate. If you say so. I do say so! Mac is a great guy. This could be the start of something really wonderful for you. But no matter what we find among peter’s possessions… …my family’s legacy will haunt me to my grave. The secret that you’ve been carrying around… you sure you don’t want to unload it? I mean, it — it might make you feel better. Thank you, um, so very much for being so very understanding. I mean, I — I know I don’t have to apologize for being alone in your room, but it’s just with martin back in town, perhaps it’s how — shall we say — more appropriate that we meet in public. Well, don’t look now, but we are already being watched. Oh, I see that scott does not approve, perhaps, of my choice in dining companions. Next time I dump him out of a plane, I won’t include a parachute.

[ Clears throat ] Oh. Kidding.

[ Chuckles ] Kidding. Of course you are. Lucy i s refusing to endher involvement with victor, which means that we’re gonna have to intervene. Anna, I’m not gonna be able to help you. Why? Is he watching you too closely? Victor’s getting rid of me. I’m afraid mr. Baldwin is laboring under the delusion that I’m interested in dr. Liesl obrecht. So…are you? Currently? I only have eyes for you, my dear. Lucy: So it’s just a matter of time before I figure out what victor’s nefarious plan is, and then you — you get to take it to robert. I — I do hope martin understands. Right. Like you really do care. No, I don’T.

[ Chuckles ] But I know you do. Hiya, scotty. What, are you all alone? Where’s liesl? Uh, hiya, ava. She’s, uh, babysitting the grandkids. Wh– oh. Now, you do know that victor is no threat, right? Not to me. I’m fairly certain lucy coe can take care of herself. Yes. Yes. She’s a tough cookie. I’m thinking about you. Me? Yeah. I-I’m speaking to you here as your friend and your lawyer. You have got to cut ties with the cassadines, starting with that no-account husband of yours. Recent repairs on the points and lintels on the south tower have been completed in time for the first blast of winter. Excellent work. Thank you, sir. Hopefully, mrs. Cassadine will approve? Well, it’s mrs. Cassadine that I’m thinking of. That’s why there will be no repairs on the north tower. But, sir, if we don’t complete them before the — this is not open to debate. Further repairs will have to wait until springtime at the earliest. Is that clear? Yes, sir. Sign here. Until I say otherwise, the north tower is strictly off limits. Who am I kidding? There’s no way out unless I grow wings or I’m willing to risk falling into the lake again.

[ Gasps ] I guess I’m not the only one who’s trapped in here, huh? Yes, I know. You didn’t ask for this. Join the club. But we’re in this together. And I am gonna find our way out.

Believe it or not, I am a good listener, so whatever’s bothering you, I’m here. Yeah, see, that’s the thing. I did open up to someone, and he was very understanding. And not long after that, he was killed in a tragic accident. And, what, you think somehow those two things are connected? No, I-I don’t think the world works like that. It’s just the benefit I got from opening up was so short-lived, it’s hard to justify taking that risk again. And besides, you’re a horse whisperer. It’s not like you’re a priest to confide in.

[ Chuckles ] Well, I-I-I’m definitely not a priest. And I am damn good at taking care of horses. But, I mean, I’ve got other layers, too, just like you. You listened to me worry about whether I could live up to the heroic mac scorpio standards. So you really think I’m gonna be scared off by being reminded that cesar faison’s your dad and peter august is your brother? Remember, if mac scorpio is not my biological dad, that means that leopold taub is. So I do know what it’s like to be finding out that you’re related to bad guys. Except you seem intrigued by my family relations. Why is that? Look, I just offered to help you look through your brother’s belongings. That’s it. Given my brother’s history, most people run the opposite way when he’s brought up. But not you. So why do you want to help me? What does that mean? Victor’s getting rid of you? No. Should I be worried? He says he’s gonna let me go see charlotte. Not out of the goodness of his heart, obviously. People are starting to ask questions, why she’s been gone so long with no visitation. So it’s in his best interest to put me on a jet to go see her. Or he’s luring you into a trap. Of course I care about martin. He’S…a dear. Well, so is bambi, but I don’t see you living on berries and leaves the rest of your life. I see you enjoying much greater luxuries. Well, you know, martin is an attorney, and it’s not like he’s living on poverty row. He’s also a-a very kind man, and the last thing I want to do is hurt him. Alright, so that’s the last thing you want. What’s the first thing on your list?

[ Chuckles ] Well, I do so love this absolutely gorgeous necklace that you gave me and not to mention equally gorgeous and beautiful bracelet that matches perfectly. Well, it is one of a kind, after all. Just like the lovely lady who’s wearing it. So what was martin’s reaction to all these new additions to your jewelry box? Oh, I-I-I just made it clear to him that what we have is strictly platonic with… a dash of business thrown in. So what do you say we continue that business that was so prematurely cut short when my man johann fell overboard? You’re late to the party, scotty. I’m no longer living at wyndemere. I’m staying with nina in my old penthouse. So nikolas is all alone in that pretentious pile of rubble. Okay, listen, ava. I mean, y-you can run circles around me in the art world, but when it comes to legal matters, you know… and marriage? I mean…I’ve been there, and — and I know that marriages, they just don’t die like that. They are like… vampires. Y-y-you got to put a stake through their heart to end it. Do you — do you have something in mind? Yeah, yeah. You got to sort of figure this out because I-I — my hands are tied when you ripped up the prenup and the postnup. However, I-I think that things can be changed. But, you know, the biggest blunder you made was leaving the house ’cause the spouse that stays in the house has a leg up. But if we act quickly, I think we can fix that. And do what exactly? We got to undo nikolas before he tries to undo you. So we — we got to file divorce first.

[ Sighs ]

[ Keys jingling ] Nikolas: Step away from the door, esme! Now! Oh! So you’ve decided to feed me and your unborn child? How thoughtful of you. Honestly, I could care less whether you live or die. But I do care about that child that you’re carrying. So when I come back, I expect you to be a member of the “clean plate club.” Going forward, you should know I hate milk. I don’t care. The baby needs calcium. And what about what I need? And what you need? Speaking of babies, um… remember how we made this one?

Y not see it, but I actually think we’re pretty similar.

[ Chuckles ] Okay. I’ll bite. How do you think we’re similar? Well, there’s a big part of me that wants to pretend that I have no past — I can just shape my life the way I want it. No strings. No responsibilities. And most of all, no expectations. But you can’t run away from your past, can you? No matter how hard you try. You know, I-I-it’s not too late to just forget about the stuff that your brother left you and just dump it in the trash and move on. You don’t think I’ve considered doing just that? What’s stopping you? My brother wanted me to have these things for whatever reason. If there’s nothing of value, which there probably isn’t, at least I’ll know. But on the other hand, maybe there was something I missed. Something that might never come around again. Yeah, I’d hate for that to happen. Me too. Well, it’s your call. Let’s get out of here. Wait. W-where are we going? Look, this is victor cassadine we’re talking about. He’s perfectly capable of using my daughter as bait. What if he has decided that you are more trouble than you’re worth? You know, he — he knows that you are calculating, potentially lethal, and, if he’s honest, smarter than he is. If he’s honest. My point is that he is telling you what you want to hear in order to get you out of town and cut his losses. I think the odds are pretty good that he is laying a trap. So why would you give him that opportunity? Because I miss my daughter. I think we should continue mixing business with pleasure, starting with a sunset cruise around the harbor. Well, after all, our last attempt at a cruise was rudely scuttled. I think it only fair we try again. Anyway, the — the city lights are so very conducive. Conducive. Ah. Um… conducive to what? To work, of course. What else? Hm. Hm-hm-hm. Mm! Well, you know, before I could accept your lovely offer, I really don’t know absolutely anything about your business. Um, for example, I don’t think you have an office, not to mention the fact I don’t even think you have a — a mailing address. Ah, it’s really no different from yours. Ah. I sell…beauty. What are you selling, victor? Join me on the cruise and you’ll find out. Scotty, aren’t you the same friend who once told me that nikolas and I have something special and we shouldn’t throw it away? Yeah, but that was before you told me in confidence that he was running around on you! Yes, I told you “in confidence.” Confidence! Which means it’s covered by attorney-client privilege. Yeah, but, ava, we could get a big settlement. Scott, I’m gonna stop you right there. Nobody can know that nikolas cheated, okay? But — no one can know. If you breathe one word of it, I will turn you in for a violation of ethics and I won’t stop until you’re disbarred! Do you understand me?! Alright. I won’t mention the unmentionable. Good. And that means you can’t talk about it in written form, either. No texting or e-mailing about it. Nothing. Yeah, yeah. Good. But, ava, it — it makes me as mad as a hornet to know that you’re protecting nikolas. I’m — I’m not. Come on. Now, I-I’m gonna say this. You know, I-I’m trying to help you here move on with your life. You gave nikolas your best shot. It didn’t work out. So let’s help you find somebody that really… deserves you, hm? I haven’t forgotten. Neither have I. Why are we treating each other like enemies when… things could be so much more enjoyable between us? I haven’t forgotten every low-down, dirty trick you pulled to get ava out of my life or how you framed trina robinson for that sick video that you made, and I haven’t forgotten how you tried to turn my own son against me. Oh, so we’re back to the same old song again. Why don’t we talk about your wife attempting to kill me?

[ Scoffs ] Thank god that baby in your belly is half mine, because I shudder to think what it’s gonna inherit from your side. Oh, you have no idea. Enjoy your food. And don’t forget to drink every drop of milk.

[ Keys jingling ]

[ Screams ] Unh! You little psycho! Nikolas! Think about your baby! I might have done the world a favor. But cassadine blood is thicker than whatever is coursing through those veins. And you think keeping me a prisoner is good for your precious little heir? You know, people thought that you were dead, and no one shed a tear. For the most part, people were relieved. I mean, let’s face it — the only people that want you are the pcpd, and that’s just because they want to throw you in prison. There is evidence and testimony that you framed trina and you drugged oz haggerty. So you are better off here than in lockup. And what about after… I have the baby? The baby will be given around-the-clock care from the best nannies in the world. He or she will live in a lap of luxury going only to the finest schools in the world. And me? You…esme… are expendable. Ava: What are you doing? Well, I-I’m being specific here. Judges, they don’t like when you just throw some random number at them. They — they want to know what’s — what’s going on. And, you know, since I can’t mention the “unmentionable”… so what we got going is the fact that your stepson stalked you, his girlfriend lit your car on fire. So we’ve got to, you know, let the court know that the abuse, the mental abuse that you suffered at being married to nikolas cassadine. Okay, so you’re holding out for true love when it comes to your own life, but when it comes to my marriage, y-you want me to run to the nearest divorce court. Even though nikolas has made it clear that he really wants to work things out. Ava! That’s what he wants! What do you want?! I don’t know what I want. But I know that I don’t want you or anybody else to dictate what I should be doing.

[ Groans ] A sunset cruise in the brisk autumn air sounds delicious and heavenly and quite refreshing.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, but I — you know, I couldn’t possibly go like this. I-I’d need to change out of this old thing. Naturally, you’d want to change into your “business” attire.

[ Chuckles ] Uh, as a matter of fact, I do have something I need to attend to anyway. So why don’t we just meet at pier 55? I’ll, um — I’ll send a calendar invitation to your assistant. Oh, dear. You already have something on the books. No. No. No, no. Not at all. It’s just that that poor bartender was stabbed with a hook on pier 55. Oh. Yes. Of course. Well, don’t you fear. I’ll have one of my associates meet you at the pier. He can keep you safe till it’s time to board. So…do we have a date? I — I mean, a deal? Deal.

[ Chuckles ] Wait. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, there, missy. What the hell are you doing with victor? None of your beeswax. Look. You help ava. She needs it. I don’T.

[ Grunts ] The lady said yes. As I knew she would. Now it’s your turn. You know what to do. I haven’t seen my daughter in months. I got to go. Okay. I’ll come with you. No, listen, because if you get to see charlotte, then you will be focused on her, and you will need someone to watch your back. And if it’s an ambush, you will need someone to watch your back. No. Whether or not my father would eliminate me, he would definitely eliminate you. No. You’re staying here. I’m gonna go see charlotte. On victor’s terms?! What if we were talking about robin? Alright. I hate leaving you. I was hoping for another chance to wake up in that bed of yours. So it’s the bed you like. It’s an amazing bed. Hm. It’s soft. So soft. Really expensive. Hey. One more thing. I love you. If you don’t come back… I’ll never forgive you. If I don’t come back… I’ll never forgive me, either.

[ Door closes ] Hi. It’s me. Uh… yeah. There’s a lot of stuff happening. I’ll fill you in. But valentin’s in trouble. He needs your help.

[ Keypad beeps ] Oh. Uh, housekeeping must have skipped my room today. Living full-time in a hotel, huh? Remind me next time to go to med school. Oh, the new co-owner is a friend. She gave me a special rate. Uh-huh. But you have it pretty cushy, too. The quartermaine stables are a lot posher than some hotels.

[ Chuckles ] Well, that’s true, but a guy can dream, can’t he? What is your dream, cody bell? My dream? Freedom. You know, free to do what I want when I want… where I want… with the person that I want. Well, freedom may be the most expensive thing there is. So far, I haven’t even managed to save up a deposit.

[ Chuckles ] If that’s the case, then shouldn’t you be giving riding lessons to some rich divorcée or sucking up to the quartermaines instead of helping me sort through my brother’s stuff here? Well, you never know what you’ll find. When you least expect it.

uh, we’d better get to business before… before…? Before I have to go to G.H. And you have to go back to whispering to horses. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Okay. Here it is. Everything peter left me. Alright. Well… aren’t you gonna open it? I mean, that’s why I’m here, right? Maybe maxie was right. I should just throw it down the garbage chute and be done with it. W-well, I mean, think about what you were telling me earlier. You know, if you — if you don’t look inside the box, you’ll never get rid of the what-ifs. You’ll never fully be able to move on past your brother. That’s what you really want, right? Here goes. Alright.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Hm.

[ Beep ] Anna: Lucy, it’s anna. You listen to me. I am giving you fair warning. You either reconsider your options and you do as I say, or there will be serious consequences.

[ Exhales deeply ] Oh, lucy coe. You still got it. Now let’s put it to work. Hey, jesse, reload. So, did you have better luck with lucy than you had with me? I — I-I just don’t get it. Smart, sensible women. What do they see in the cassadines? I-I don’t get it. I don’t see their appeal. Well, suppose you ask the lovely dr. Obrecht. I believe she could fill you in. Eh, she’s already gotten rid of you. And lucy will, too. Ava, if you’re smart, you will cut your losses with nikolas while you can. You know, for once, I actually agree with baldwin on something. Look, I-I’m sorry you and nikolas couldn’t work things out, but… well, anyway, let’s just hope that the process moves as swiftly and painlessly as possible. I’ll even make sure it’s worth your while. What are you talking about? What — what process? Well, the divorce, of course. There’s a secondary benefit to keeping you locked away in this room until you give birth. Maybe not for you, but for the people in port charles. And what is that? We’ll be able to see if the serial killer who uses a hook continues to attack people. And if another attack does happen, that will prove that you are not the killer. How many times do I have to say it? It is not me! Tell that to oz haggerty — the witness that could clear trina’s name but was inconveniently drugged before he could testify. Oh, wait. You can’t question him because he was stabbed to death with a hook! Not by me! Only time will tell. And what happens after the baby is born? And you realize that I am not the woman who has been going around stabbing people? What then? Are you gonna put our baby up for adoption? Or, worse, try and convince ava to help you raise it? I’m not sure a cassadine could pull a rabbit out of that hat! Well, that’s really of no concern of yours. Just do as I say and take care of that new life inside of you. You can’t get rid of me that easily! You want to bet? No one is gonna miss you. Well, that’s where you’re wrong. My father knows I’m alive.

After all these months, you’ve never once mentioned ‘s someonewho loves and adores me. Didn’t see that one coming, did you? Not only does someone know that I’m still alive, but it’s someone who loves and adores me. My father. Your narrative of “poor little esme’s all alone in the world” just isn’t true. You’re lying. After all these months, you’ve never once mentioned having a father. Doesn’t mean it’s not true. And daddy would not be very happy with the way you’ve been treating me. You said both of your parents were dead. You were adopted as an infant and your adoptive parents were dead, too. You were raised by your nanny until you were sent to boarding school. And that’s where you met spencer. Oh, feel free to check with the boarding school. My teachers always said I had a very vivid imagination. So do I play fast and loose with the facts when it benefits me? Of course I do. And the truth is, yes, both my adoptive parents are dead. May they rest in peace. However… my biological father is very much alive. And where is he? And who is he? And why would I believe anything you say? You just admitted that you bend the truth to serve your needs. All of this time you were involved with my son, you never talked about your father. Clearly, you’re bluffing. My father’s a very powerful man. And if you don’t let me out of here, you’re gonna find that out. And trust me when I say you will not like how this story ends for you. Well, that’s the thing, esme. You’ve told so many lies that even if you were telling the truth right now, it is impossible for me to believe you. Hmm. Believe what you want. But when that day comes, your fate won’t be pretty. Don’t say I never warned you. Alright. That is enough, esme. You’ll do as I say. You’ll do what’s best for that baby. And once you’ve done the one and only decent thing that you have ever done in your entire miserable life and given birth, your future will be up to one person — me. And I’ll decide whether to toss you off the parapet again or throw you to the wolves. And we’ll see if your imaginary father comes to the rescue or not.

[ Door opens ] Let me go, nikolas! I’m the mother of your child!

[ Lock clicks ] I deserve to be treated with respect!

[ Grunts ]

[ Crying ] It’s so unfair. I’m a prisoner surrounded by ava’s tacky taste in art! Hi. Yes. Um, it’s imperative that I get a message to lucy coe. Okay. Could you check her appointments and see where she’s gone? Thank you. A sunset cruise. Does it say who she’s gone with? Business dinner. Victor cassadine. Okay. Thank you. Where? Pier 47. Are you absolutely certain about that? Okay. Thank you. You’ve been very helpful. Thank you. Once again, victor, you’re jumping to conclusions. Yes, I’m having drinks with scott baldwin. Yes, he is my lawyer. He also happens to be my friend. And we are not discussing any possible divorce. W-wait. Y-you mean you really don’t know? Why don’t you stop talking in riddles? What don’t I know? I just assumed nikolas would have told you of his decision. Irreconcilable differences? Well, this whole town knows that nikolas and i have had a tempestuous relationship. It’s always been like that. We’ve even discussed divorce in the past, but neither one of us has ever wanted to pull the trigger. Unless nikolas has told you something h-he hasn’t told me. Oh, ava. I’m sorry. Forgive me. Look, everyone knows my nephew changes his mind on a daily basis. I-I just assumed that… well, a-a strong, independent woman like yourself wouldn’t just sit back and wait for him to make the first move. But, well, maybe I’m mistaken. Ava. Ava. Ava! Oops. Something I said?

[ Grunts ] Damn it. Where are you?

[ Chuckles ] Must be upstairs. Britt: Okay. This all seems so random. An old atm receipt. Why would peter keep that? And what’s it supposed to mean to me? Well, I mean, if there’s money still in the account, it would go to you, right? I suppose. Money clip with cash. I know what that is. Why would he keep a stub from what looks like a parking garage? Maybe he’s got a car parked somewhere? Even if I were to track it down, peter’s been gone since last winter. It’s probably long gone. Ugh. I mean, peter did bad things on a big scale. T-the contents of this box are just so run-of-the-mill. Alright. Well, I mean, what about, you know, these? Yeah, I remember seeing these with maxie. I’m sure they open doors peter was never supposed to enter. One more thing I have to get rid of. Well, I don’t know what these other keys unlock, but this little one here, I know what kind of key it is and I know what it opens. What exactly? Safe deposit box.

I wonder what peter kept in his safe deposit box. More unfinished, worthless business? Or it could be something valuable. Like stocks or bonds. Maybe more cash. Or it could be filled with rubies and diamonds for all we know. Look. Hey, hey. No one says that you actually have to track down the safe deposit box. Some things are better left unopened. Really? Just walk away? Well… that doesn’t sound like you. You said it yourself. Your brother did bad things in a big way. Why mess with what he left behind?

[ Chuckles ] Don’t be so serious, cody. We’ll probably do a lot of work to find it only to open it up and a rubber snake pops out! My brother was warped like that. Well, then why push your luck? Because there’s only one way to find out. We have to find the safe deposit box and open it. You’re right. There’s only one way to find out. That should do just fine. Ava. What are you doing here? I thought you were done keeping secrets from me. Anna. It’s me. Shoot. Uh, I’m on my father’s plane. We’ll be in the air in a second. I…miss you. So wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, just know I’m with you in spirit. Always.

[ Exhales slowly ] Hm. Okay, victor, I’m here. Let’s get this cruise started. Listen, victor, I don’t know what game you’re playing, but I am gonna protect ava’s interests. So why don’t you go home and hold your nephew’s hand until this is over? Do ya follow me?! Ah. To be continued, mr. Baldwin. Now, if you’ll excuse me. Are we good? I took care of everything at her house. And anna herself? Our people tailed her from her home. She’s on her way to pier 47. Excellent. She’ll be far from where lucy is and exactly where I want her. Calendar invite says pier 47, not 55?! Are you absolutely sure?

[ Groans ] Okay. Fine. No, I got — I got to go. Damn.

[ Clatter ] Victor, we obviously got our — what are you doing here? Oh, no, no, no, no,no, no, no, no. Please. No. No. Ohh!

[ Gunshot ]
