THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
are you sure we have enough marshmallows and chocolate for the s’mores? Oh, this is definitely enough for the entire month. It’s only a weekend trip. I love seeing everyone pitching in together. Oh, we’re going to aiden’s port charles pioneers rally. Oh! Well, what a wonderful idea. Elizabeth is going to love hearing that you’re all going on a camping trip together as blended families. I’m late for work. I, uh — I think maybe I should go talk to cam. No, actually, I’ve got this. When you are visualizing vectors, do you do it in “a,” one dimension, “b,” two dimensions, or “c,” three dimensions? Okay. Um, vectors. Vectors. Visualizing vectors. Is it…”a”? No! It’s “B.” Ugh! “B,” two dimensions, babe. Oh. Who am I kidding? I am never gonna pass the mcats and get into med school, and I’m never gonna fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor! I remember I said the same thing when I was going through this.
[ Sighs ] Yes. But you were still young when you became a doctor. And you had more time and energy. Well, I don’t know what to tell you there. I mean, I haven’t invented a time machine just yet.
[ Laughs ] True. [ Sighs ] Well, okay, look. At the very least, do you have any study tips? Someone did help me once. They said, “don’t think about it as a test. Think about the questions as if you’re dealing with an actual patient — someone that came to you for answers.” And that did the trick? Yeah, it did. It reminded me of why I wanted to become a doctor in the first place. And it wasn’t to do good on some tests, it was to help people. Well, then it looks like we came to the right place. Cameron, a-aren’t you gonna go with everybody else on the camping trip? I got my hands full with my job here, my second job at the metro court pool. Not to mention damage control with joss.
[ Sighs ] Look, I-I don’t want to pry. But, cameron, it’s summer after your freshman year in college. Don’t you think you deserve to have a little fun? I don’t know, roughing it out at pautuck state park is just not my idea of a good time. Not a fan of sleeping in a tent, huh? Or is it maybe the fact that your mom won’t be there? “Confidential message from the office of the dean of students.” Okay. Look, we don’t know for sure if this is bad news.
[ Sighs ] Yeah. But one way or the other, once I open this e-mail… my life won’t be the same. You are way off base, ava. I’m back with esme. Are you trying to deny your feelings for trina? I don’t owe you any explanations. You know how much trina means to me. So I want the truth. What kind of game are you playing? You can’t be serious. Ava can never find out that I — that we… made love? Keep your voice down. I’m only saying if the guilt of it is too much for you to bear and you need to unburden yourself to ava, you won’t be alone. I’ll stand right by your side. Felicia. I take it maxie and bailey lou are still upstairs with the pediatrician? Yes, they are, and when they’re finished, I was hoping you would join us for a family dinner. Sounds good to me. I can’t get enough of that little angel. Yes. Everything is new through a little one’s eyes.
all good. I’m sorry. I know that you miss your mom. Hey, we all do.
[ Sighs ] But I know you also feel the pressure to earn money and be the man of the family. But don’t you admire what finn is doing, trying to keep things as normal as possible for jake and aiden, for violet, too, for that matter? We can’t pitch a tent in the woods and pretend everything is normal when mom is suffering.
[ Sighs ] Your mother chose to get help, and she’s working on getting better. Okay, but we don’t know how long that’s gonna take. I-I-I don’t know what to say anymore when jake and aiden ask why they can’t see their mom. Things will not get better until mom comes home. We came here today to get my father’s bandage changed and maybe have another scan. I heard about your mugging, marshall. I’m so sorry. Oh, my son, he came to the rescue.
[ Laughs ] He, uh, made sure everything went alright. Well, I’m not surprised that curtis came through for you, but I’m sorry he didn’t get there before you got injured. Well, I may look the worse for wear, but you should see the clarinet.
[ Laughter ] Look, let me show you to your room and I’ll let your doctor know you’re here. Thank you, nurse johnson. No, thank you, doctor, for the tutorial.
[ Laughs ] Well, when I left you at the house, you and your father certainly had a lot to unpack. Yeah, a whole suitcase full. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to me about any of it, I mean, we can talk about it another time.
[ Exhales sharply ] Well, I don’t want to talk about it. But I have to. Because what I learned, it might affect you, too. We can do this. Let’s do it.
[ Sighs ] Oh, no, trina. Yes, I care about trina. But my loyalty is to esme. Why is that so difficult for you to understand? Why would you care about trina if you think that she’s the one who hurt your friends? While claiming that esme is behind that revenge porn? Doesn’t that make you angry? I don’t have to explain myself to you. I’m in control of your trust fund, spencer. It was my decision to give you an allowance, but what I give, I can take away. So out with it. What are you up to? Esme, we have both been given second chances — you with spencer, me with ava. The last thing we want to do is to throw those chances away, right? If you can forget what happened between us, so can I.
[ Sighs ] Ava took the first step towards reconciliation, and I need to find a way to reciprocate. Are we talking diamonds or rubies? None of the above. I know ryan can’t hurt me because of his condition, but still. Wait here. Wait here. Officer cabrera, what’s he doing here? Uh, the desk sergeant gave me this assignment to provide backup for the spring ridge guards during transport. The patient is undergoing a series of tests here at G.H. Is there a problem? Unfortunately, no. Everything seems to be in order. I know you can’t talk or even move a muscle, but you can hear me, so listen up. I know it’s legally the correct thing to do to offer you medical treatment, but if it were up to me, I would have taken you down a long time ago. All your victims, all the people you killed — you never gave them a chance to survive. So even though I can imagine you hate your life as a vegetable trapped in a body that can’t do anything, it’s still way better than you deserve.
[ Screams ] You never were very bright.
[ Screams ]
[ Spits ]
[ Gasping ] Felicia, so nice to see you again.
[ Screams ] Officer cabrera, escort the prisoner to the exam room and make sure the room is secure before you hand it off to the guards. Yes, sir. Let’s go. Hey. No, no. I’m okay. I’m okay. Evil like that — pure evil — it can’t win out. I wish it were that easy. You don’t happen to have a silver bullet, do you? No, but I have something better. A baby. Hamilton, how’d it go at shadybrook today? Violet told you? Nothing gets past her. No.
[ Chuckles ] Well, you know, elizabeth, she’s, uh — she’s getting the help that she needs. Why do I sense there’s more to the story? She made it pretty clear that my presence there was making it worse for her. She kind of asked me to leave. Hey, there we go. Ready for this? When I saw your mother in the clinic, she had only one concern — you three boys, not herself. But isn’t that the problem? Shouldn’t her entire focus be on herself and getting better?
[ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, uh, when you get older and you have kids, you’ll see that you never stop worrying about them or putting their needs first. But you’re right. She should be focusing on herself right now, but she won’t be able to do that if she knows that you’re putting your life on hold. That will add to her anxiety. So me going on this stupid camping trip might actually make her feel better? Is it really stupid to spend some time with your younger brothers right now? You know? Go for a walk in the woods, maybe run into a family of deer — just anything to distract their minds from what’s going on with their mother? I guess. You guess. Well, you like finn, right? Yeah, sure, I do. Okay. Well, I know everybody says that hamilton finn is a — is a genius who can cure incurable diseases, and they’re right, but he’s also a human being, and he could use your help right now. I know your mother was counting on you to help out right now. If ever there was a time for a family to come together, it’s now. So how does marshall’s story affect me? Well, it affects you because it affects me. Now, I don’t think I’m betraying any confidence by telling you this. Marshall is well aware that there have been too many secrets, so he’s okay with me telling you everything. Well, I’m — I’m — I’m here to listen, so take all the time you need.
[ Sighs ] After you left us at the house, marshall opened up. I mean, it was like — it was like someone had finally opened the window and let the sunshine in after a lifetime lost in the dark. I mean, he just let it all out. All those years he was away from us, thinking that he was protecting us… and in reality, all the while, he was suffering. And if tj hadn’t have found those pills — the pills that I found you holding? Yeah. After marshall was mugged, the doctors in new york asked if he was on any medication. Now, I know he takes heart medication, but I don’t know what kind or what dose. Tj and I, we had the key card to marshall’s hotel room, so t went up to his room to look for the pills. Now, we were just trying to help the doctors with any information we could. What? A-are you saying that marshall’s heart condition is worse than he initially let on? No. I’m saying that there was no medication for any heart issues. Tj found antipsychotic medication. All these years, marshall has been taking medication… …for schizophrenia. “This is to inform you that you have been found in violation of regulations enumerated under title ix.”
[ Sighs ] “You will be contacted by the dean’s office to schedule a meeting, in which time sanctions against you will be stipulated and possible expulsion will be addressed.” Okay. Well, we still get to meet the dean, so there’s a chance that they’ll impose sanctions while allowing you to stay enrolled at pcu. Thanks for trying to stay positive, but…
[ Sighs ] I don’t need a pep talk. Actually, I-in a way, this decision did me a favor. A favor. How? It’s like climbing a high diving board. It’s so much scarier to climb back down rather than just to take a deep breath and jump. Okay, but what are you jumping into? The way I see it, if anyone’s going to clear my name and prove that I’m not guilty, it’s gonna be me. Okay, well, just know that you’ve got your family and you’ve got me, and, hopefully, cam.
[ Rory clears throat ] Hopefully there’s room for one more supporter. We’re in this together now, so tell me, what do you have in mind for ava? I mean, ava made a huge gesture by returning home to me. She even went so far as to accept you, to reinstate an allowance from spencer’s trust. Those are huge concessions. I have to come up with a fitting response. Well, I can’t wait to hear how the story ends. Here. This is for good luck. Even though I know you don’t need it. Ava, I am not up to anything. For once in your young, irresponsible life, you gotta be honest. Whose side are you on — trina’s or esme’s?
[ Door opens ] What’d I miss?
Oneand put it over and under. Look at that. Pull it tight. Whoa! Square knot. Okay? Saw what I did? Yeah, I think so. All right. Now it’s your turn. And remember, it’s okay if you don’t get it right the first time. Okay. Thanks.
[ Chuckles ] Your advice never changes, does it?
[ Sighs ] What do you mean? The whole, uh, “it’s okay if you don’t get it right on the first time” thing.
[ Chuckles ] You always let chase and i figure things out on our own. Well, if memory serves, you never, uh — well, rarely took my advice. Very true. But I’m starting to. You know, instead of hovering over elizabeth, I’m taking the boys and violet on this camping trip. That’s very healthy, very mature. Mm. But if I know my son, and I think I do, you’re already planning some other way to help elizabeth, whether she wants it or not. That’s not fair — you bringing up mom’s expectations of me. Not when I’ve been disappointing her for a long time.
[ Sighs ] Cameron. Look, cameron, please don’t do this to yourself. You know, you made a mistake just like everybody else. Your mother is really, really proud of you. And beating yourself up right now is not productive, okay? You’re just gonna get bogged down with all of that, and then you can’t be present to help anyone else. Right? What sense does that make? Really, the best thing that you can do right now for your mother is to go on that camping trip, spend some time with your younger brothers. So what do you say? You don’t have to stick around until the doctor shows up. Did it ever occur to you that I might have another reason for sticking around?
[ Sighs ] The last time I saw you, it was, “hello. Goodbye. Have a nice life.” Look, I thought it was for the best. Best for who? You encouraged me to go for my dream of becoming a doctor. And then when I take you up on it, you’re outta here. Not so much as a postcard from the road. Are you telling me you’re going for it? What?! Epiphany, are you grabbing that brass ring? With both hands.
[ Laughter ] You may have run away from your family, but I’m not running away from my future. I may have run away, but if you’re not gonna hide from your future, I can’t run away from my past. That’s right. I’m back to face it, and I’m back to stay. When you spoke to marshall, did he happen to mention when he was first diagnosed with this? It’s been at least 40 years ago. You know, I’ve been saying this all along. There is more to marshall’s story, and I was right. And this explains everything. Marshall walked away from his family because he was protecting us. This was never about some unknown enemy. He was protecting us from himself. So as long as tommy and i believed that he was dead, that was marshall sparing us from the pain, the grief, from the stigma of that disease. Yeah, well, 40 years ago, a-a lot less was known about that condition. Can you imagine the courage it took to walk away from your family to face that illness alone? Or the courage, even more so, to come back and tell the whole truth? It is very, very brave. Um… did you happen to mention if — if he’s had any recent episodes? No, the medication keeps it under control. You know what? I believe that marshall’s biggest fear isn’t what he’s about to do, but what he’s already done by passing on his dna. Now, I’ve read that this disease can be passed along genetically. Is that true? Do you always listen in on conversations and wait for the right time to make an entrance? People say a cop is never around when you need one. Well, now you can tell them they’re wrong. Okay. Well, sadly, I couldn’t get ahold of cam, but I’m glad you’re here. You know, pcu may have made a decision about the title ix findings, but there’s still time before a judge has to rule trina’s case. I’m on the clock right now, but once I’m off duty, we’ll come up with a strategy to exonerate trina. Okay, guys, look, I am touched by your support, but if there are any clues to find, I need to be the one to find them. I can’t involve a member of the pcpd, and I can’t involve you and cam. I need to do this one on my own. Cameron is expecting me at kelly’S. I admire your dedication, son. Even though you’re able to draw an allowance from your trust fund, you still feel an obligation to your friend. That’s our spencer — loyal to a fault. Your timing is not great. I was so close to finding out what spencer is up to with esme. What makes you think he’s up to something? Well, he’s a cassadine, isn’t he? And we’re all gonna be under the same roof. I’m gonna do whatever I have to do to try to get along with your son. But unlike his father, spencer’s choice of female companion leaves an awful lot to be desired. What’s wrong? I know that fragrance. It’s esme’S. So we’ve been dancing around this topic for a few weeks now and we never seem to go there. So, uh… let’s go there. Are you saying that you… that we… are you pregnant, felicia? Oh, god, no! Oh [Chuckles] Is that what you thought? No, no. What I meant was, is that we have bailey lou, a new life of hope and promise. Ryan has nothing. No one except his own twisted self. Then you’re not upset that we’ve never had a baby of our own? Absolutely not. You helped me raise two beautiful daughters, and that’s good enough for me.
[ Elevator bell dings ] I’m here to visit mr. Chamberlain. Sorry, no visitors for this patient. Wait a minute. You intern at spring ridge? Yes, I do. Dr. Gould asked me to sit with the patient in case he needs to communicate. Hello, daddy. I’m about to make all of your dreams come true.
You know it’s difficult for me to fight the impulse to solve a problem. And in elizabeth’s case? I’ve been thinking about… reaching out to her parents. What’s that? No — no opinion? That’s not like you. Are you genuinely asking me for my opinion, or have you already made up your mind? Cam, I’ve got great news. Hi. Hi. Grandmother, I didn’t know you’d be here. Oh, well, don’t let that stop you. You’ve got great news. Let’s hear it. Yes, there is a genetic component to schizophrenia. But your father’s condition isn’t necessarily something that you would inherit. Well, that’s a relief. And I think marshall will be relieved as well. There are so many…factors that could have gone into this diagnosis, and medicine — medicine’s come a long way in 40 years. Whoever treated your father back then was just learning about what they were dealing with.
[ Sighs ] But still… still? W-what are you not saying? If you wanted to be absolutely sure, you could go in for genetic counseling and testing. Lo ok, trina, I admireyour courage and independence, but you’re gonna need more than that to prove your innocence. Let us help you. I appreciate that, but I can’t involve anyone else. Trina, it’s a little late for that, okay? I’m in this, too, not only as a victim of revenge porn, but as your friend. Look, this is happening to both of us in different ways, and we need to work together. Screw it. Let’s just go straight for esme. Okay? We’ll make her tell the truth. And when esme accuses us of assault? Fine. You can stay here. I’ll take my chances. No, you will not. Neither of us are committing a crime, not even to save me from a crime I didn’t even commit. Well, you know all the right words, but fair or not, the burden of proof is still on you. And that’s why I need to find a way — my own way — of proving that esme set me up. It’s no shock that esme’s perfume lingers here. She just stopped me outside. Really? What did miss muffet want this time? Now that she and spencer are back together, esme hopes that you and i will forget the past, and we’ll be closer than we ever were before. And you believe her? I believe esme wants to be with spencer.
[ Laughs ] Ehh. Or spencer’s trust fund. Maybe both. But esme realizes that if things are gonna work out between her and spencer, our happiness — yours and mine — is essential. Hmm. Happy wife, happy life. Is that it? You took the words right out of my mouth. Your plan is working to perfection. The fuse has been lit and it’s only a matter of time before it blows up ava and nikolas’ marriage. What did you do, esme? Let’s just say I made nikolas an offer he couldn’t refuse. Pray tell. What did you offer him? Me.
No. I haven’t made up my mind, which is exactly why I’m asking for your opinion. Look at your daughter. Mm-hmm. See what she’s doing? She’s tying the knots that you taught her. Yeah, and then she’s untying them. I didn’t teach her that. That part she figured out on her own. Serves me right for having a teacher as a father.
[ Chuckles ] Actually, could cameron and i have a moment alone to talk? Oh, sure. Well, anything that you can say to me, you could say to our grandmother, starting with why you were late for work again. Well, you told me that I had to choose. Oh. And did you? It’s all taken care of. Good. Because I am going camping. Are you gonna be able to take care of everything else here? No. I’m sorry, cam. There’s been a change of plans. In order for me to take care of everything, I don’t have time to bus tables. Consider this my notice. If there is any chance that I can inherit my father’s condition, then I want to know all there is to know about genetic counseling. I-I can put you in touch with a specialist. Okay. The more you know about your father’s condition, the — the better prepared you will be to help him. Help him. Right. Uh, well, if it’s one thing I found out the hard way, is that there’s a very fine line between helping and interfering. So before I commit to anything, I’ll wait for the okay from marshall. Of course. Yes, I-I understand. I mean, unless it means that much to you. Oh, honey, I-I want you to do what’s best for you. You know what? You’re amazing. You’re always thinking about other people and not yourself. So if it means that much to you, baby, say the word and I’ll speak to the specialist. Okay, trina, before you say anything else, this is where I get off. Because you’re a cop. Well, the less I know, the more freedom you have to do what you need to do. All I can say is good luck…to esme. What? What are you talking about, good luck to esme? If you and trina are coming for her, esme needs to look out. You know, I like that guy. You know, we can’t sweep our problems under the rug. We went off the rails because we didn’t trust each other enough to be completely honest. I admit, it was wrong of me to invite spencer and esme to live here without consulting you first. And I admit that while spencer and i have reached a kind of détente, esme is a different story. Forget about esme. Speaking of happy wife, there’s something I want to give you. Just you and me is more than enough. And this year, our annual christmas newsletter is embarrassingly filled with all of our blessings, and we can add bailey lou this year. Sounds good to me.
[ Cellphone chimes ]
[ Sighs ] Oh. Right. [ Sighs ] Is it about ryan? No, they need me at the station. Oh. But it shouldn’t take long. Can I, uh — can I meet you at the restaurant? Well, you know, I’m a cop’s wife. I’m used to waiting. Hey, and don’t worry about ryan. The only place he’s going is back to spring ridge. You had sex with your boyfriend’s father? The plan was to break nikolas and ava up, wasn’t it? If there weren’t guards outside this door and I wasn’t handcuffed to this chair, I would hug you. So tell me everything. How did ava react when you told her? Esme, you did tell ava that mewling idiot she married cheated, didn’t you?
You know, curtis, you’ve gone your whole life without knowing anything about your father’s mental illness, so there’s no rush. You know, there’s no rush to see a genetic specialist. And you and your father, you’ve been doing so good lately. [ Laughs ]
[ Sighs ] Why don’t you wait? Why don’t you talk to him and see what he thinks about it? Thank you for understanding. As soon as I get the all clear, I’m taking marshall home. Home. Sounds good, doesn’t it? It sounds real good. Home.
[ Giggles ]
[ Door closes ]
[ Exhales deeply ] Yes. Hi. This is, um, dr. Portia robinson. I would like to set up a consultation with one of your counselors, please. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I have a few questions that require a, um, genetic specialist. I can’t believe we’re back to square one with esme. Not necessarily. Wait. What? You have a new idea? Yeah. We need to forget about breaking up esme and spencer. We need to break down esme’s story to prove that she’s the guilty one, and I know exactly how to do that. I don’t know where your doctor could be. Epiphany, wait. We have some unfinished business, too. I thought you said your clarinet was damaged. Instruments can be repaired a lot easier than people can. Besides, we, uh, never got around to that second date. Are you asking me out? Are you saying yes?
[ Both laugh ] Hamilton, I know how much you want to help elizabeth, but I think the best thing you can do for her is take care of her boys and trust elizabeth to know what’s best for her. Grandpa! Grandpa! I did it! Hey! Good job. You’re quitting your job? Well, yeah. Ava restored my trust fund allowance. I think I should probably be able to get by on $10,000. $10,000 a year? No, cam, per week.
[ Door opens ] Come on, cam, it’s time to go. We have a trip to get to. Lo ok, spencer, you’reon the schedule tonight. I have no one else to cover for you. Finish your shift. I gotta go. Okay. Yeah. No, I guess one last shift won’t hurt. Bussing tables is a lot easier than living at wyndemere with esme, ava, and your dad. I hope you know what you’re doing. Thank you, grandma. Oh, thank you. You made the right choice. Have fun. Okay. Grandmother, say something. Laura: Well, I’m just wondering if ava has given you back your trust fund allowance, what are you giving her in return? Nikolas, I don’t need presents. All I want is for us to be open and honest with each other going forward. Oh, I…totally agree. That is why I found the perfect way to thank you for giving our marriage a second chance. What’s that? I want a divorce. I’m playing the long game, waiting for just the right moment for ava to learn about nikolas’s infidelity. I see. I knew you’d understand. Indeed, I do. That hurts. It’s meant to. Because words can’t possibly express my disappointment. Ah, anything on tap. Actually, I wanted to talk to you about my friend over there. What about him? Well, you know the $100 he gave you? He really didn’t mean anything bad by it. It’s just the other day when you gave him pretzels instead of peanuts, he had this stupid idea that you liked him. I do like him. Come again? I like him a lot. You’re talking about that guy right over there? Yes. Spence. The reason I got so upset about the money, I thought he didn’t respect me. So you’re saying that you could really get serious with him? Yeah. Well, what happens if you guys hit it off and get a place together? I mean, what about his roommate, huh? Huh? What about the car they share and the joint chec king account? Um, I don’t even know what to say here. Excuse me. So? Sorry, bro. She ain’t into dudes. What?! Yeah.
