Jack: Allie, I’m sorry if i overstepped in saying that the abbotts were your family. I didn’t want to say anything to upset you. I just — I’ve come to think of you as part of my family.
Allie: You didn’t — you didn’t do anything wrong, jack. And I really appreciate you saying that. It’s just…
[ Sniffles ] I’m so sorry.
Jack: No, no, no. You have nothing to apologize for.
Allie: [ Crying ]
Jack: It’s okay. I got the sense that something’s weighing on you from the moment you got here. I’m sorry I had to take off for a little while. That would never have happened if I hadn’t had another family issue regarding kyle. But I’m here now. You have my full attention. Something’s going on. Tell me what it is. What’s wrong?
Diane: You’re headed back to italy tonight?
Kyle: That’s right.
Diane: Is it — is it something I did? I mean, I — I mean, I know i didn’t instantly win over the abbotts today, but I thought i at least held my own with their questioning.
Kyle: This isn’t about anything you did today or about my family.
Diane: Well, of course not. It’s about you. You’ve let me say my piece and now you’ve decided you want nothing to do with me. I get it. I — I’ve tried to emotionally prepare myself for this very real possibility, but, um…I’m not gonna lie, I’m — I’m really disappointed.
Kyle: Look, I’m not leaving for the reason you think.
Lauren: Thank you, my love.
Michael: Mm-hmm. Mwah!
Lauren: I cannot stop thinking about our drive through the south of france. That convertible, the wind in our hair, and stopping at all the cafés along the way. And that airbnb — I mean, how cute was that couple that ran it. That could be us, you know.
Michael: Uh-huh. You serious? You and me, running an inn?
Lauren: Well, if it’s us, it’s probably gonna be a winery, but…
Michael: Are you saying you want to retire in france?
Lauren: Could you see it?
Michael: Hmm.
Lauren: I mean, because I’m pretty sure when I close my eyes and think about my happy place, that’s it.
Michael: Oh, it was gorgeous.
Michael: You’re always such a charmer.
Michael: Mm-hmm. It was great. It was a great trip. I’m glad you insisted we go.
Lauren: Well, you deserved it. You needed the r&r, and so did I, after worrying about you so much for being in peru.
Michael: Well, I promise our next vacation won’t be a de-stressor after I’ve been thrown into a peruvian prison.
Lauren: Well, better not be.
[ Chuckles ] And there is one way to ensure that that won’t happen. And that’s rethinking working for victor.
Faith: You look nice, mom.
Sharon: Thank you.
Nick: You look beautiful.
Sharon: Thank you.
Nick: Are we waiting for tessa and mariah?
Sharon: They should be here any minute.
Nick: Good. I talked to abby. She and chance are gonna meet us at the church.
Sharon: Chance told me that the gcpd will have their own memorial service for rey later. The guys he worked with, they really loved him.
Noah: I put together a slide show of photos. I thought maybe we can project them on the wall during the service.
Sharon: That’s a wonderful idea, noah. Thank you.
Mariah: Hey, everybody. We brought food for afterwards.
Sharon: I’m just so grateful that you could all be here today. I guess we should get going.
[ Knock on door ]
Nick: Are you expecting someone else?
Sharon: No. And tonight’s winning number, 43

Chelsea: Um, I apologize if this is awkward. I heard you were having a memorial for rey. I didn’t mean to intrude, I just realized this might be my only opportunity to pay my respects. But if it’s only family, i totally understand. You say the word and I’ll go. I just thought it might be nice to be able to, um, say goodbye with all of you.
Mariah: Yeah, I’m so sorry, chelsea, but it’s — it’s just the kids and rey’s partner. It’s supposed to be a small and intimate thing.
Sharon: Well, hold on. It was supposed to be small and personal, but you’re welcome to join us. I know what close friends you and rey had become. I hope that no part of you blames yourself for his death. Did you hear that he had a heart attack?
Chelsea: I did.
Sharon: So then you know he didn’t die because he was out on the road getting those tickets. No one’s to blame. It was no one’s fault.
Chelsea: Thank you for saying that.
Sharon: It feels right that you’re here. Rey would’ve wanted it like this. We’re actually on our way to the church now. You can drive over with us.
Chelsea: Thank you. I appreciate the opportunity to celebrate such a wonderful man.
Michael: I know how you feel about my relationship with victor. You don’t like my work husband.
Lauren: Alright, I never said that I didn’t like him.
Michael: [ Laughs ]
Lauren: Oh, and stop mocking my feelings.
Michael: I’m not. I’m not. He did lend us a private jet to go to france. I mean, does that score him any points?
Lauren: Well, that is the least that he could do.
Michael: No, look, I think my work will be much less stressful now that ashland locke has been purged from the company and that his marriage to victoria’s being annulled. Hopefully, he’s out of our lives for good. Things should be quieter.
Lauren: I’ll be glad when we are rid of ashland, but I don’t think things will ever be quieter with the newmans. But you know what would be more peaceful? The south of france. Wine in the afternoon, long nights in bed together, sleeping in as long as we want. Now, that — that could be our lives.
Michael: The only way that could be our lives is if you retired too. Are you willing to do the thing you’re asking me to do? Would you walk away from fenmore’s?
Allie: Oh, my god, I — I am so embarrassed. I-I-I don’t usually lose control like that. Seriously, I am not the weepy type.
Jack: It is so much healthier to express your feelings than keep them bottled up.
Allie: Yeah, but it’s just not something I do — crying in front of someone that I haven’t known for very long.
Jack: Look, maybe we haven’t known each other that long, but I’m not just anybody. I’m not a stranger. I’m your grandfather. And I have a feeling that something’s really on your mind that you’ve come a very long way to genoa city, maybe — maybe to talk about it. I just want you to know you always have a soft spot to land here. I made a lot of mistakes with your father. I don’t want to repeat those mistakes.
Allie: You’re right. I came here because I could use someone to talk to. Something did happen. I’m steve.
Diane: Thank you for coming upstairs. I — I didn’t think this was a conversation we should have in a hotel lobby, for various reasons.
Kyle: I couldn’t agree more.
Diane: [ Sighs ] So why are you headed back to italy tonight?
Kyle: I want to get back to my wife. This has been a lot, and i really miss summer. I need her insight and advice about everything.
Diane: So I take it this means you still haven’t decided whether you want me in your life.
Kyle: I’m still wrestling with what to think and how to move forward. My family has weighed in. Now I need to hear what summer thinks.
Diane: Well, of course, of course, you should talk to her. I — I’m just kind of curious, though — what did the abbotts say about me after I left? I’m thinking it wasn’t pretty.
Kyle: It’s not really my place to share their opinions about you after the fact.
Diane: Fair enough. So I guess there’s just one more question. What can I do to get another chance with you?
Allie: It’s about my mother.
Jack: You once told me things were a bit tense between you two.
Allie: “Tense” is an understatement. She came to la pretty soon after you and phyllis went back to genoa city.
Jack: Well, that could be her way of reaching out.
Allie: Yeah, I was hoping that was the case. But, no, she didn’t come to california to come see me. No, it was all about legal papers that she had to sign related to dad’s estate.
Jack: I’m sorry.
Allie: You know, I would have loved to talk to her about you, about dad’s whole other side of the family. I would have also loved to just know if she knew more about how dad felt about things.
Jack: And she just wasn’t ready to talk about that.
Allie: I never even got the chance to ask. I was really hoping that this visit would start to bridge the gap between us. You know, I was searching for the smallest connection, any connection, to my mom. But there was nothing left to bridge. That was clear. She came to la by herself, stayed in a hotel for one night. She signed the papers and left at the crack of dawn the next morning.
Jack: As a parent, I find that unconscionable.
Allie: You know, honestly, it would’ve been better if I just didn’t see her at all. Because seeing her like that, it just — it just ripped the wound right open. The lack of a relationship with my mom just makes me feel the loss of my dad even more. He was all I had. Sorry. Now he’s gone.
Jack: It’s hard to come to terms with the loss of a parent.
Allie: I was feeling so empty…and lonely. And I just…I felt compelled, without really even thinking it through, to just get on a flight and come see you.
[ Sobbing ]
Lauren: You know, comparing my job to yours is disingenuous. I could probably work remotely, and victor would never tolerate that from you. You chose to retire from the da’s office, and then you chose to work for victor, which landed you in a prison cell in south america.
Michael: Ashland locke landed me in a prison in south america.
Lauren: Yes, but victor is the one that got you into ashland’s crosshairs to begin with. Look, I really don’t want to argue about this, but I do want to ask you a question. What kind of hold does victor have on you where you consistently defend him, no matter what?
Michael: I feel no need to defend my position. I helped victor expose a treacherous snake. Who knows what locke was planning to do to victoria if he had gotten his hands on that company? I helped put a stop to that.
Lauren: You’re right, and that is a good thing. But that is not the point.
Michael: The point is that we could take a cruise around the world, visit every place we’ve ever dreamed of. We could move to saint-tropez. But I doubt highly you’d be able to run fenmore’s from there. Not the way you’re used to or would want to. The only way we could truly live a stress-free life is if you were as free as you’re asking me to be. Could you actually step back enough to let the — the — the well-oiled machine that is fenmore’s be run by someone else?
[ Chuckles ] You just gave me your answer. It’s a big, fat no.
Lauren: [ Sighs ] After years on the battlefield
Michael: I’m not upset at you for not wanting to retire. On the contrary, I love how passionate you are about your work. Your drive is one of the sexiest things about you. I just wish there was a way that —
Lauren: I could love your working relationship with victor?
Michael: [ Chuckles ]
Lauren: Even though it literally went south?
Michael: That’s the nature of the beast, the fun in the game. The proof in the pudding.
Lauren: Oh, my god, the clichéS. Okay, point taken.
Michael: I’m gonna make you a promise. We’re gonna hit every exotic destination on our wish list, and if you want to end up in the south of france, that’s where we’ll finish. But not quite yet, because we’re still in our prime, baby.
Lauren: Are we?
Michael: You don’t agree?
Lauren: Oh, I do.
Michael: [ Chuckles ] So I suggest that we continue to thrive in our respective careers. And…live our lives to the fullest. And then, when it’s time for us to walk off into the sunset, we’ll know it. And we’ll go hand-in-hand. What an adventure that will be.
Lauren: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Good point. But there is the difference between our careers. Running a successful chain of department stores isn’t dangerous. It’s relatively safe. No one is gonna put me behind bars because I declare pink the color of the season.
Michael: Oh, so bright.
Lauren: But it was muted.
Michael: Alright. True.
[ Sighs ] But like I said, I am convinced that things with victor are going to settle down.
Lauren: Mm. I find that very hard to believe.
Michael: Time will tell. And if it becomes an issue, we will revisit this, okay?
Lauren: Okay.
Michael: Good.
Lauren: I am gonna go back to work.
Michael: Aww.
Lauren: But I would like you to compare and contrast something for me — our wonderful trip in the south of france to the delightful time you spent behind bars in peru. I love you.
Mariah: Are abby and chance coming?
Tessa: Chance had to go back to work, and abby went to take care of dominic.
Noah: Dad.
Nick: Thanks.
Noah: Mom?
Sharon: Thank you.
Faith: Chelsea?
Chelsea: Oh, no, thank you. I — I don’t think I could eat or drink anything right now.
Sharon: Well, I would just like to thank everybody for coming today. Tessa, the song you sang at the church was really beautiful. And, noah, that photo montage, that was really moving. Chance just gave such a lovely eulogy. I’ll always remember it. The memorial was really special and cathartic. The kind of farewell that rey would be proud of.
Diane: What else can I do to prove myself to you? Because I — I am willing to do whatever it takes. You can line up the abbotts again. I’ll take their grilling. You can bring on the newmans, and I’ll do my best to answer their questions and absorb their anger. I — I want to do whatever is necessary to show you that I’m worthy of another chance.
Kyle: Then what?
Diane: What do you mean?
Kyle: I’m just not sure there’s one thing you can do to make everything okay.
Diane: I thought we could just open the door as a starting point, and then — and then take it from there.
Kyle: That’s the thing, it’s a very dangerous door for me to open, because once I do, it’s very hard for me to close. I have to be sure it’s the right thing for me to do. It’s something I have to decide with my gut.
Diane: Are you saying you need more time or are you saying you can’t risk letting me into your life again?
Kyle: There’s still a chance. I haven’t given up on you, but i have to understand if that’s because I’m still hurting from all the years of missing you, of living without you. Look, I need to know if it’s just a void I’m trying to fill that your death created. I also have to think about how this choice affects summer and harrison.
Diane: Harrison, my grandson.
Kyle: That little boy has already been through so much upheaval in his life. I refuse to put him through any more.
Diane: I’m really proud of the father you’ve become.
Kyle: I will always put my son first.
Diane: Yeah, I — I tried to do the same, but in the end, I — I fell short. Well, I guess if you’re leaving genoa city for now, I — i should probably head back to los angeles.
Kyle: That’s up to you. Whether you want to go back to your new life or maybe mend other fences here. Everyone remembers the moment they heard…
“The young and the restless”
will continue.
Even though some
things are far away,
Nick: You know, rey was determined to turn me into a soccer fan. He thought that if I just kept watching games, that eventually I’d get into it.
Noah: Did you?
Nick: No way, man.
[ Laughter ] I’m an american football guy. We’d get into these little arguments about whose sport was more boring than the other. We just liked hanging out, you know, so we watched a lot of games. He’d get pretty annoyed, though, when I just kept yelling “goal!”
Faith: Because it’s annoying.
Nick: It was funny.
Mariah: I’m pretty sure it wasn’T.
Noah: He was always so easy to be around. Low-key, cool. He never really treated me like I was his wife’s son. It was more like a — more like a buddy. Actually, I remember this one time, I had a date that had went well, and the next morning i walked into the coffee and I had mis-buttoned my shirt. And rey’s just sitting there with a big old smirk on his face, and luckily he pointed it out before anyone noticed — mom, in particular.
Sharon: Wait, wait a minute. Who was this? Did I meet her?
Mariah: No.
Noah: Uh, no, probably not.
Mariah: There’s no way.
[ Laughter ]
Faith: I hope rey understood just how much of a part of the family he was.
Sharon: Everyone’s shared memories of him today prove that. Chelsea, did you want to share anything?
Chelsea: Uh…well, he was — he was just really wonderful with connor. As you know, and, um… I really appreciated that. Uh… sorry, I don’T…
Tessa: I still can’t believe how much work he was doing behind the scenes to help my sister. And now I’m never gonna be able to thank him for that.
Mariah: It makes me wonder how many people he helped that we’ll never know about.
Sharon: I actually have received a lot of e-mails and notes from people that rey has helped in the past. Some were things that he had mentioned to me, but, you know, he downplayed. And then there were other stories that I — I had never heard, because rey wasn’t a grand-stander. He — he wasn’t in it for the thanks. He was a real hero.
Allie: Thanks.
Jack: I am so sorry that happened with your mother. Relationships between parents and their child are powerful and sometimes painful.
Allie: Yeah. I am only now starting to feel the full weight of the pain.
Jack: I’m sure there’s a lot more to this story between you and your mother. I’m not going to pressure you to share anything more than you’re comfortable with. Right now, I — I just want to say how — how happy, how proud, how grateful I am that you came to me. I want you to think of this house as your home. And I promise, you are always welcome here.
Allie: Thank you, jack.
Diane: Is there someone specific you’d like me to make amends to? Because there’s plenty to choose from. Unfortunately, I left a long list of people I’d wronged.
Kyle: I wasn’t thinking of anyone in particular. It’s not for me to say, and i hope you didn’t take what I said the wrong way. I’m not throwing out that there’s some requirement to my forgiveness.
Diane: Okay. I’ll take it as it was intended.
Kyle: Well, I guess I’ll be in touch in a few days.
Diane: Please, I’m looking forward to that.
Kyle: Bye.
Diane: Kyle, um…before you go, would it be possible for me to give you a hug? Or — or if that’s too much to ask, I understand.
[ Sighs ]
Noah: Mom, I’ll take you to the airport, unless, of course, you want me to travel with you. I’m sure dad’ll give me the time off work.
Sharon: No, you — you shouldn’t do that, but thank you. Your work’s important.
Chelsea: Where are you going?
Sharon: I am taking rey to miami so he can be buried there and be close to his family. That’s what his mother wanted.
Mariah: Mom, why don’t I go with you?
Sharon: You should stay here with tessa and focus on the wedding.
Tessa: No, no, I can take care of everything while you two are gone.
Sharon: You know, I’m really not going to be gone very long. I want to get back here so that I can help you two with the preparations.
Nick: Well, I told you before, I’d go with you if you want.
Sharon: It’s really not necessary. And besides, you might have to deal with diane. Please, everyone, know that i appreciate your offers to accompany me, but this is gonna be the last trip that I ever take with rey. The long goodbye. So I — I’d just prefer that it was just the two of us. I hope you understand.
Mariah: We do.
Faith: Whatever you want, mom.
Sharon: Well, the service made me kind of tired, so i think I’m gonna lay down for a little while. But I just want to thank all of you again for your support. I want you to know how much i love you all.
Mariah: Right back at you.
Nick: I’m glad we did this, sharon.
Sharon: Me too. This was just what I needed.
Kyle: I guess I missed the rest of your welcome reception.
Allie: Oh, that’s okay. I showed up here without any warning, and I definitely wasn’t expecting to meet all the abbotts anyway. By the way, kyle, I just want you to know that I had no idea that taylor — diane — was your mom. Seriously, I thought it was a random person buying a house.
Kyle: I know.
Jack: We all know that it’s diane’s machinations that set this whole thing in motion. Why don’t we leave her behind for the night? Allie and I were about to head to society for some dinner. Care to join us?
Kyle: I appreciate the offer, but I don’t think that’s gonna be possible.
Michael: Drew. No.
Diane: Yes, it’s me.
Michael: But —
Diane: I’m back.
Michael: How?
Diane: [ Chuckles ] The same way so many people come back to genoa city.
Michael: [ Sighs ] You were dead.
Diane: And now I’m not. It’s a blessing and a curse. I’ve come back a changed woman, but no one will believe me.
Michael: Did you actually think anyone would?
Diane: Well, I knew they’d be angry, but I guess since I’ve been living with the new me for a while, I thought other people might accept her, too.
Michael: Because people here are super forgiving.
Diane: Hmm. So go ahead, give me your worst. I can take it. In fact, you’re late to the party because I’m kind of used to it. I have already been put through the emotional wringer. I’ve spent days explaining myself to people who don’t believe a word out of my mouth, and I am mentally and physically exhausted. So bring it on. Just get it out of your system. Call me evil incarnate or a crazy bitch, anything else you can think of.
Michael: Are you sure? Because I have a pretty good imagination.
Diane: [ Chuckles ] So do I. Which is probably why I thought it was possible to come back here for a fresh start, which I’m realizing is increasingly unlikely, so come on, michael. Can we just get to the part where you hurl one last searing insult at me and storm off? And then I can finish my drink in peace.
Michael: Well, actually… it’s pretty good to see you. (Christine) when you hear the words oral cancer,
Tessa: Well, it was nice spending time with everyone today.
Mariah: Yeah. I think my mom knew that we would all want to be together, and I know the service took a lot out of her, but…I think she’s gonna be okay. I’m a little less worried about her now.
Tessa: Yeah, she seems to be holding it together.
Mariah: And it makes me feel less guilty about going ahead with the wedding planning.
Tessa: I mean, she seems really excited about helping us plan it, and it gives her something to focus on.
Mariah: Yeah. I’ve been excited about planning it, too.
Tessa: Who would’ve thought?
[ Chuckles ]
Mariah: It’s nice to have something to look forward to, you know?
Tessa: I can’t wait to be your wife.
Mariah: I can’t wait to be yours.
Chelsea: You were so good to my son, rey. But that’s not all I wanted to say. You were good to me, too. So kind, so generous. I really cared about you, more than you probably knew. What we shared was genuine. It was a bond, it was a feeling. It was a feeling.
[ Sighs ] And it was stronger than friendship. I feel guilty saying that, but it’s true. Who knows if it would’ve developed into anything more. I would’ve felt bad about that, too, because sharon — sharon is a good woman. She loved you. She truly loved you. And I’ve already put her through a lot of pain.
[ Exhales sharply ] None of that matters anymore. None of it matters because you’re gone. And I can’t help it — I feel angry and I feel sad over what i lost. A potential future with a man i could’ve loved. Once again, my happiness just ripped away.
[ Sniffles ] When is it gonna end? When do I get to win?
Kyle: Allie, I would love to get to know you better, but it’s going to have to be a different time. Right now, I need to get harrison ready and start packing, because we’re gonna fly back to milan tonight.
Jack: Wait, did something happen with diane after I left the hotel?
Kyle: No, we had a pleasant, civil conversation. I didn’t make any big decisions. I just need to get home, see summer, talk things out with her. And I’m going to take your advice not to rush things.
Jack: Good. I hate to think of you and harrison leaving so soon. It feels like you just got here.
Kyle: I promise we’ll make a visit to see grandpa jack soon.
Jack: Well, hopefully next time under less dramatic circumstances.
Kyle: I can commit to a future visit, but when it comes to the drama, I can’t make any promises.
Diane: You’re glad to see me? Is this some sort of michael baldwin misdirect? You’re happy because you want to see me finally suffer for my crimes or because genoa city needs a new punching bag?
Michael: At least you have two kidneys.
Diane: [ Chuckles ]
Michael: [ Sighs ] I am genuinely glad that you are not dead.
Diane: I don’t know whether or not to believe you.
Michael: Shouldn’t the new, improved, not-dead diane just be a smidge more trusting?
Diane: You’re right. I’m going to take a win where i can get one. Cheers.
