[Gasps] Morning, sunshine.
Brooke: Why did i drink again?
[Door closing] I’m gonna make sure you come nowhere near my family, especially steffy, finn, and hayes.
Sheila: Never, ever mess with me, brooke, especially when it comes to my son. You will never keep me away from finn. No matter what I have to do.
Liam: All right, dude. Your aunt donna is going to be here any second, so I need you to grab your jacket and your backpack. Okay? Hello? Dougie, dougie, bo-buggy! What’s going on?
Douglas: I saw grandma kissing santa claus.
Liam: What… what now?
Douglas: I saw grandma kissing santa claus.
Liam: Oh, the song, the song. Yes, I believe it’s “I saw mommy kissing santa claus,” not grandma.
Douglas: No.
Liam: All right. Fine, it can be grandma. Listen, I almost have the diaper bag ready. I have snacks. I have drinks. Jacket, backpack, go, go, go, go, go! Also, help your sister with her jacket.
Douglas: Okay.

[Knocking at door]
Deacon: Hey, liam, I saw hope on her way up to the main house, she didn’t see me. Can I come in?
Liam: You just want to wait here for her?
Deacon: No, if you let me in, I’ll explain.
Liam: Sure.
Deacon: Thanks.
Liam: Yeah.
Deacon: Are the kids here?
Liam: They’re actually about to head out with donna. Listen, I don’t want to be rude, but, um… what– what do you want?
Deacon: It’s about hope.
Carter: So, to be clear, when we kissed, you really hadn’t planned on that?
Paris: No, it just happened.
Carter: Agreed. Don’t get me wrong, you’re… you’re beautiful… smart, sweet.
Paris: Well, when you put it that way, you weren’t planning on kissing me?
Paris: So all those kind things you just said about me… you weren’t trying to start your new year off with a bang?
Carter: What? No, I was just saying that I think very highly of you, if you couldn’t tell. But no, I was not making a play for you. After you came back here from dinner with zende and you told me what you had to do so he wouldn’t propose, I just… I just wanted to be there for you. As a friend. And that’s what we are, right?
Liam: All right, love you guys, have fun and listen to your aunt donna.
Deacon: Is it possible that they got any bigger since I just saw them? Hey, look, liam, I… I get that you and I are very different guys. I mean, I’d probably hazard to say we have zero in common, but there is one thing that’s very important to both of us.
Liam: Which is what?
Deacon: Our love for hope.
Ridge: Well, I’d wait as long as I could, but we’re running out of hot water. And I get it, you got to be tired too, right? I’m sorry, I didn’t even ask you. I was too busy talking about myself, as always. How did it go? How was new year’s with hope, and liam and the kids?
Hope: Are you really sure you want to know? I mean, talk about a crazy new year’s eve. Had to be your craziest ever, right, mom? Okay everyone,
Deacon: Liam, you and i haven’t really talked since I got out of prison. And the thing is, man, we used to talk.
Liam: Yeah, I just… I don’t really see that doing any good.
Deacon: Look, I get it. You’re… you’re afraid that I’m gonna hurt hope again, that’s why you don’t trust me.
Liam: Well, yeah, deacon, can you blame me? I mean, come on.
Deacon: No, actually, I, I don’T. And if I’m being completely honest, I admire you for it and I appreciate it. I mean, it’s nice to know that my daughter’s got a husband who’s always looking out for her. What?
Liam: Well, listen, you and I both know that hope is very much in charge of her own life.
Deacon: Yeah, yeah.
Liam: But if I see heartache around the corner, I’m going to say something, even if she doesn’t like what I have to say.
Deacon: And you know why that is, don’t you?
Liam: Yeah. Because she thinks you’re not the person you once were, she thinks that prison has… changed you for the better.
Deacon: I am changed for the better, but not because of all my years in a prison cell. Because of hope. It’s because of her writing to me when I was in prison, despite having every reason in the world to kick me to the curb. She kept the faith that I could change, that I could finally be the father that she deserves. Man, that’s all I’m trying to do. I’m trying my damnedest to do it, and I get it that there are going to be some people that will never accept me, especially ridge. I was just hoping that maybe you’d reconsider. Just give me a chance.
Liam: Kind of like what brooke’s trying to do. I got to say I was… I was surprised that that brooke invited you to new year’s eve. That I… I didn’t see that coming.
Deacon: Yeah, well, that makes two of us. That was definitely a surprise. New year’s eve was a night full of lots of surprises.
Ridge: Crazy night, huh?
Hope: Oh, yeah, it was real wild. Uh, champagne was flowing, non-alcoholic, champagne was flowing. There was goodies for the kids. You know, these noisemakers, and hand clappers, and hats.
Ridge: Well, it sounds like you rang in the new year in style.
Hope: Uh, I think we did. Although, you should know, ridge, that my dad was here, only briefly, though. The kids fell asleep watching their favorite movie and we were all gone well before midnight and we wanted to give mom some time to get ready before you came home. Right, mom?
Brooke: Yeah.
Hope: So, we were all hoping you could make it last night. I’m guessing that didn’t happen?
Ridge: Yeah, I was hoping that too. But there’s just… lot of things. So I got here this morning.
Hope: Well, just know that you were missed, especially by mom.
Ridge: And by deacon, probably, right? Was he on his best behavior?
Brooke: Uh, I’ll just say that the night was definitely not the same without you, ridge. I missed you so much. Really, so very much.
Ridge: Come here.
[Upbeat acoustic music throughout]
Paris: I still can’t believe zende wanted to propose.
Carter: Yeah. He loves you.
Paris: I know. And I’m so lucky, I just don’t think I’m ready.
Carter: Yeah, yeah, I understand. And you saved zende from the embarrassment and hurt of having his proposal rejected. So don’t beat yourself up over this. You’re a good person, paris. There’s a reason why zende loves you so much. Don’t forget that.
Liam: I see that you’ve committed to helping me with this new year’s resolution.
Hope: Hmm. The one about more kissing and less talking?
Liam: Yes, exactly. Talking’s so overrated. Oh, how is… how’s brooke? She must be happy ridge is back.
Hope: Uh, yeah. Um, she seemed excited to have him back, and it is nice to see my mom light up whenever ridge is around. I know they’ve had their challenges lately with my dad and all that.
Liam: Oh, speaking of, guess who came to the cabin while you were up at your mom’s?
Hope: My dad… was he looking for me?
Liam: No, me. We actually had kinda a good talk.
Hope: Wha-really?
Liam: Yeah, really.
Hope: Oh my gosh, I’m so glad. I want the two of you to get along.
Liam: Yeah. Well, it turns out there’s this one really, really speific thing that we both have in common. We love you. So…
Hope: Well, that means a lot to me. Two of the most important men in my life, you know, trying to come together.
Liam: I wouldn’t go that far. With the coming together.
Hope: Well, okay, fine. Fair enough. But I am just, I’m grateful that you are trying.
Liam: Yeah. A lot of gratitude going around lately. I know steffy’s really grateful that taylor’s back in town. It’s kelly’s grandmother. She likes having her mom around.
Hope: Yeah, although it is kind of weird the timing of it all that taylor just happens to be back in la right when mom and ridge are dealing with deacon, and all that.
Liam: Yeah, no, that’s true because deacon is one thing, taylor is another. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned is that your mom and ridge do not need the added stress from either.
Brooke: Oh, come on, deacon. Slug one back with me, buddy, old pal. Cheers. The bell bottoms! Oh my god. You put the bell bottoms on and you…

Deacon: I’ve never worn bell bottoms in my entire life.
Brooke: You would like, strut down the boulevard.
Deacon: Oh, stop it. I’ve never walked like that, either. Come on.
Brooke: I think we need this.
Deacon: Yes, of course.

Deacon: And that is the look. Yes!
Ridge: Deacon was here for new year’s?
Brooke: Yeah, I was about to tell you when hope arrived.
Ridge: Did he just show up uninvited because that’s usually what he does, right? What’s going on with you? Huh? Deacon do something to upset you?
Hope: What exactly are you implying here?
Liam: I’m not implying, there’s no… it’S… it’s not an implication so much as I just want you to be aware of of…
Hope: Of what?
Liam: Of the, I don’t know, the dynamics that are in play right now. Like you like where things are headed with your dad, right?
Hope: Yes.
Liam: Even though I have my own, you know, issues with deacon.
Hope: Liam, you just said you had a good conversation.
Liam: I did. I did. But it doesn’t change how ridge feels about deacon, right? That, like that’s still a strain on his relationship with your mom.
Hope: I am well aware of that.
Liam: I know you’re aware. Look, I know–
Hope: Liam, I don’t want there to be friction in my mom and ridge’s relationship. Okay? Even with the way ridge’s been treating me lately with trying to pressure me off the property. And…
Liam: I know, and he absolutely should not have done that. I’m just saying that clearly, deacon being in your life is bothering ridge, and I don’t think we should make the mistake of pushing deacon on ridge too much because… it could backfire.
Ridge: What’s going on? You seem off. Is it because of deacon?
Brooke: I’m sorry, ridge. I, I didn’t sleep well. I never do, when you’re not here. And when you told me that you were going to be back, but you never came home, I’m just not myself when you’re gone. That’s all.
Ridge: I’m sorry. Hmm. Oh, yeah. Sorry I didn’t make it back in time.
Brooke: Me too. More than you know.
Ridge: All right, I’m going to make a promise to you. Next new year’s, you and me, somewhere, I don’t even care where you are, I’m going to find you, and I’m going to be with my hot, beautiful wife. But before all that, we have a whole year of possibilities, right?
Brooke: Yeah. Uh huh.
Ridge: And I know we have issues with deacon, but I’m going to let that go because there’s no way he’s going to have anything to do with our relationship. He’s not going to break us up, he’s not going to do any of that stuff. Okay?
Brooke: Mh mm.
Ridge: Because I love you. And–
[Cell phone ringing] Okay, that’s the prince, I was supposed to call him, tell him that I landed, and I forgot. So I need a talk to take this. Don’t go anywhere.
Brooke: Okay!
Ridge: Hey. No, I did. I’m sorry.
[Phone ringing]
Deacon: Hey. I didn’t expect to hear from you again. What, what’s going on? Everything okay?
Brooke: No, I’m not okay. I’m anything but okay.
Deacon: Nothing happened last night.
Brooke: What are you even talking about? I relapsed. I started drinking again. I don’t even know how that happened.
Deacon: All right, look. I get it. I get it, okay? It was bad. You fell off the wagon. But you know what? You’re going to go to your meetings. You’re going to turn this around but you’ve got to stop torturing yourself. Now, has ridge come home yet?
Brooke: Yes, he’s home. I was about to tell him and, and hope walked in.
Deacon: Thank god she did. What are you– brooke, listen to me. I know you’re feeling a lot of guilt.
Brooke: Of course I’m feeling guilty. Look, I want to be honest with ridge, I want to open up to him. But our marriage has been really shaky lately, and I don’t want to just push us over the edge. I don’t want to lose the man that I love. I don’t want to lose my husband.
Deacon: That’s not going to happen, but you have got to get it together.
Brooke: Okay. I’m going to go to meetings and I’m going to stop drinking. And… as far as that kiss and ending up in bed with you–
Deacon: On your bed, above the sheets. Brooke, it was one kiss. Nothing else happened.
Brooke: Deacon, it’s gonna haunt me. It’s gonna haunt me forever. As much as I want to open up to ridge, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Look, we’re going to need to just keep this secret. Okay? Forever. Say it.
Deacon: Forever.
Brooke: Goodbye.
Brooke: I’m gonna make sure you come nowhere near my family, especially steffy, finn, and hayes.
Sheila: Oh, brooke. You are always so sure of yourself. But, you know what? After my little bit of handiwork last night, seeing deacon inspecting non-alcoholic champagne bottles this morning, I have a sneaking suspicion that your world is already starting to fall apart.
[Sobbing]
