THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

okay. On the paper, not the table this time. Deal? Deal. I can’t wait to see your masterpiece.

[ Sighs ] Any word from sonny or carly? Yeah, I, uh, I spoke with my mom briefly. How is she? She’s not good. I’m worried about her, obviously, but she asked for some space, so I’m gonna give it to her. And your dad? According to tony, he’s fine. I just can’t believe he got on the stand and said what nina did wasn’t a crime.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry. I wish more than anything that I hadn’t gone to the chapel that day, that I never overheard sonny and nina, but I did. Then I made the choice to keep it from all of you. Hey, no one blames you for that. Okay, I-I don’t — I don’t blame you for that. Look, hey, there’s a silver lining, though, right? I mean, at least I know why i did what I did with da sheridan. We both thought we were protecting our family. Can you please keep your voice down? You know how everyone in this house has supersonic hearing. I’m waiting for an answer.

[ Sighs ] You are not the mother of that baby. How do I know that? Because you were never pregnant. How do I know that? Because you called me for help getting a black-market baby. Yeah, and you hung up on me, so I had to take matters into my own hands. Well, I can see that. So…how’d you get the baby? And please do not tell me the old-fashioned way. How do you think maxie is — is gonna react to this plan of ours? Well, I’m not sure. I mean, I know she loves louise, and she wants nothing more than to have her daughter home. But? The way she’s dealing with it worries me. Right. I know. Like the other day when she just said she was so positive that louise was gonna be back with her by next christmas. Yes. I mean, I want that, obviously. And I — and I want her to have that kind of hope. But it’s really strange. You know, whenever I try to bring up the subject of searching for her baby, maxie just seems… kind of reluctant. I think I know why.

[ Telephone ringing, indistinct conversations ] Britt: Maxie, what are you doing here? Have you — um, have you talked to peter? Not yet. Okay, uh, I would like to know when he’s getting shipped off to pentonville. Well, certainly not before his condition stabilizes. And that will be? Maxie, look, he’s being guarded 24-7. You don’t have to worry. I don’t have to worry? Britt, peter has escaped from this hospital once before already. I can’t deal with that again. Valentin, good to see you. I would say the same, victor, but I’m not gonna lie. Oh, I-I did as you requested. I gave you space to enjoy the holidays with your daughter. Now you’re back to your campaign for father of the year? Did charlotte have a nice christmas? Alright. What about you? How are you holding up? Uh, tip-top. Back to 100%. I wasn’t talking about the gunshot wound. I heard you lost a child. Maxie, I know it’s hard to believe after everything we’ve been through, but peter isn’t going anywhere. Perhaps you could direct me to his room. His room’s right there, but it’s for approved visitors only. And why do you want to know? Thank you. Hello. Uh, martin grey, attorney at law. Mr. August… what the hell is going on?

[ Monitor beeping ] Oh, you made it.

[ Door closes ] Thank you for coming. So… what can I do for you, mr. August? Call me peter. I’d like to hire you to be my attorney. To do what, exactly? To prove that I did not kill franco baldwin.

I appreciate you trying to help. This isn’t charity, alexis. Running the invader is gonna take a lot of work. I’m sure it’s gonna take a lot of work, especially if you have no clue what you’re doing. So you’re afraid of trying something new? I am not afraid. Okay, then, so you’ll do it.

[ Knock on door ] Pushy, pushy.

[ Sighs ] Hi. Come on in. Hey, everything okay? Hi, shawn. Sam.

[ Door closes ] Shawn — his nonprofit just bought the invader. Oh, wow. I know it used to be no better than a tabloid, but I’m changing the mission completely. Good for you. And he wants me to be his second-in-command. Wow. Wow, right? Crazy, huh? Well, not necessarily. What? Okay, hear me out. I-I’ve always thought that shawn was a discerning kind of guy. Why, think you. You must have your reasons for wanting my mother to be a part of the paper. What are they? Look, I know I-I should have brought you into the loop about having nina arrested, but… well, you kind of — kind of did the same thing, right, by not telling me about my dad and nina’s relationship? So w-what I’m saying, maybe moving forward, we can give each other a little grace, because as parents, we’re gonna have to make some executive decisions in the moment. No. No, we don’t have to make any executive decisions? No, they’re not the same thing. The secret I kept from you had nothing to do with wiley or parenting. It was about two grown adults who fell in love. And one of whom was my father and both of whom are wiley’s grandparents. Still… so I-I thought we were on the same — same page here. What am I — what am I missing? Martin is not gonna take peter’s case. How do you know? Because he wouldn’t stoop that low. Mr. August, I am extremely reluctant to take your case. The list of allegations against you is epic, and it wouldn’t exactly do my record any good to defend you and have you get locked up. No, I’m afraid the only way I would consider accepting someone like you as a client is if the compensation were both generous and prompt. In other words, you can be bought. No, but my services can be acquired on a limited basis for a $50,000 retainer. Done. However, to be perfectly clear, I am only willing to defend you on charges pertaining to the murder of franco baldwin. The rest of it, the entire catalog of heinous accusations against you, is some other lawyer’s problem. Understood. So tell me, what am I up against? Oh, I don’t know yet. I’d have to look at the official files, see what the pcpd has held back from public record. However, based on what I’ve read, I think I could poke a hole or two in the prosecution’s case. Excellent. Still…

[Scoffs] Even if you are exonerated, and that is one big “if,” there is an avalanche of charges waiting for you in other jurisdictions. One battle at a time, martin. One battle at a time. Maxie’s in denial of louise’s disappearance. She’s convinced herself that wherever her baby is, she’s safe and well cared for. You kind of have to do that, though, don’t you? Or else how — how do you carry on? Absolutely. I think that’s how she finds the strength to be a mother to georgie and james right now. I remember doing that. I-I did that. I-I convinced myself that robin was happy with filomena when I couldn’t be with her. I felt the same way when mac was raising the girls. But we were right. Our children

were happy and safe, and we knew where they were. Maxie doesn’t have that. How much longer can maxie go on not knowing if her daughter is alive? Oh. Don’t say that.

[ Breathes sharply ] I don’t know, really. Martin, um, you’re not gonna take that monster’s case, are you? I’d appreciate it if you refer to my client by his name. No. Yes. I’ve been retained to represent peter at his upcoming murder trial. But what about new year’s? Pardon? You and lucy? I-I helped you guys sneak out. I know. And I sincerely thank you for the assistance.

[ Elevator bell dings, doors slide open ] But, maxie, business is business. New year’s eve, purely pleasure. Bailey isn’t lost, victor. She’s perfectly fine. But she’s lost to you. No longer your little girl. No, that’s right. She’s not. I’m very sorry about that, valentin. For both of us. I’d have loved another granddaughter. Well, don’t get any ideas, because you’re never gonna see the one you already have. Never say never. If you think I will ever let you near charlotte, you are crazy. Alright, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to push. Right, ’cause you’re all about restraint, aren’t you? Well, I admit, I am more of a man of action. And I find it intolerable what brook lynn did to you. I assume you’re gonna retaliate. I can handle brook lynn. Well, you don’t have to do it alone. Why don’t the both of us show her that no one crosses a cassadine?

Found a mother who couldn’traise her baby, and I helped. Wow. That’s really generous of you. I did it for the family. I wanted to gain control back of elq from valentin. Mm-hmm. And did that work? Not for long. Valentin found out I was lying, and he took back his shares. Uh-huh, and now you’re trying to pass off detective chase as the father. Well, I couldn’t admit I faked a pregnancy. Why not? Because then how would I explain the baby? I don’t understand. You’d already been found out. Why not tell the truth? Now, I understand if the adoption was illegal, but if the mother was on board… oh, no. Do not tell me you were stupid enough to steal a baby.

[ Doorbell rings ] I’ll get it.

[ Clears throat ]

[ Door opens ] Maxie: Sorry I’m late. What’s wrong? Ugh, that’s sleaze martin grey has taken peter’s case. No, he didn’T. Yes, he did. I just ran into him at the hospital. Maxie, what were you doing at the hospital? I didn’t see peter. Don’t worry, mom. I just wanted to make sure he was still there. So when’s peter getting shipped off to prison to await trial? I don’t know. As far as I am aware, he’s incapable of being moved right now, physically and medically. Okay, well, he’s kind of famous for breaking through barriers. No, not anymore. Peter’s going away for the rest of his life. But enough about him. You’re right. This was a good idea, you know, the three of us getting together, relaxing, laughing, de-stressing. Well, actually, we have something rather important that we’d like to discuss with you. Oh? It’s a difficult subject, but we need to talk about the search for louise. I-it hasn’t been easy. There’s not been many leads, but I want you to know that everyone is very determined to bring your baby home. Oh. And on that note. Ladies. Hello. You okay? What is it? Uh… I got a bit of bad news. What? Nothing to do with robin. Uh… there’s been a rather tragic cable-car accident in austria. I heard about that in the news, yeah. Yeah. According to tracy… …luke was on that cable car. What? Oh, god. Oh, no. Ohh. Luke’s gone. Knock, knock. Hi, you two. Willow: Mom. Happy new year. Uh, brook lynn pointed me in this direction. I get the feeling she was in the middle of something. Oh, yeah, brook lynn usually is. Thank you so much for letting me bring wiley his gift. I’m sorry it took this long to find a good time. Oh, come on. I’m just happy for the invite. Hey, wiley, come here. Do you remember your grandma harmony? Wow. Three grandmothers. How lucky are you? Hi, wiley. I know I didn’t get a chance to see you last week, but I have been thinking about you the whole time. Merry christmas. Whoa, what do you think it is? Mm-hmm. Whatcha doing? Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to sneak up on anyone? I wasn’t sneaking. I’m just walking. Okay, I’m going in there. You think that’s a good idea? Good thing I didn’t ask for your opinion. No, you didn’t, but, okay, hold on, dr. Westbourne. We both know that you’re not peter’s doctor, are you? No, but I am co-chief of staff, which gives me free rein in this hospital. Fair enough, but, um, I’m just gonna ask. Please h-help me to understand something. Why do you want to go in there? When was the last time you saw peter? Cassadine island… where he killed jason and almost did the same to me and my mom. Exactly. Which is exactly why I need to see him. Okay, it’s not a good look, just so you know, you know, if the co-chief of staff is arrested for murdering one of the patients. Oh, believe me, if I were to hurt peter, I wouldn’t get caught. I-I do believe you. But I didn’t hear you say the part where you promise not to hurt peter. Very observant, doctor.

[ Monitor beeping ] I need to monitor the patient. Hey, there, sis. What’s up?

[Upbeat acoustic music throughout]

[Upbeat acoustic music throughout] Good. Some good news, finally. Great. Well, now that we’ve settled that, the rest is really none of your business, so… except that that’s not true. See, you’re trying to pass that child off as a quartermaine. That automatically makes it all my business. Back to chase. Great. So, why couldn’t you just say you had a one-night stand? I mean, why did you have to involve a police detective? I didn’t involve chase, okay? He decided all on his own to help me out. To lie for you. Whatever. So, uh, you and mr. Law and order?

[ Scoffs ] No, it’s — it’s not like that. Chase and i were just friends. Why do I find that so hard to believe? Cool! What do you say? Thank you. You’re welcome.

[ Laughs ] The train set’s pretty legit. It must have been expensive. Oh, don’t worry about it. I’ve been saving up so I could spoil him. Can I show leo? Yeah, sure, bud. But you might want to say goodbye to harmony right now, because toby’s mom’s gonna be picking you up soon for your playdate. Wiley: Okay.

[ Gasps ] Is this for me? Oh. Oh, my goodness, wiley, you are such an amazing artist. I know exactly where I’m gonna hang it. Thank you. I’ll bring this, okay? Why don’t you hold that one? You got it? Wiley: Yeah. Alright.

[ Chuckles ] Bye. Um, thank you for calling. I-I thought maybe when I didn’t hear from you that you might have changed your mind. No, I’m sorry about that. There’s just been a lot going on. Yeah, yeah, I actually — I heard that the charges were dropped against nina reeves after the preliminary hearing. How do you and michael feel about that? Michael’s understandably angry that nina got off scot-free. That wasn’t the worst part. There were some things that came out during the hearing that michael thinks nina purposely withheld to blindside the family. I see. What do you think about it? It just se ems impossible.A world without luke in it? Yeah, I know. I mean, do they suspect that there was any tampering or…? First thing I checked. It would appear that… his luck just plain ran out. Maxie: I’m so sorry. I know how important he was to you guys. My best friend. Brother, actually. No amount of time or distance ever changed that. Do bobbie and laura know? Uh, yeah. I-I called to check on them after olivia had broken the news. They’re… they’re both pretty devastated. Bobbie’s taking it particularly badly. Of course she is. Does she want to see anyone? No. She asked to be… left alone until she can process all of this. I-I feel like that’s the last thing she needs, but I’ll respect her wishes for now. [ Sniffles ] What about tracy? Haven’t spoken with her yet. Okay, um, I think I’ll stop by there and offer my condolences. Wait. I-I’d like to drive you, if I can? Yeah. Okay. I love you guys.

[ Sniffles ] Okay, honey. Mm-hmm. -Okay. -Okay. Look after your mom, yeah? Okay.

[ Crying ] Okay.

[ Voice breaking ] First holly, and now luke. I’m glad you’re here. Right back at you. To be honest, I don’t need another journalist. I’ve got a staff full of those already. What I need is someone with a conscience to lead and guide the paper. You know, someone to fight for what’s right. Okay, now that sounds like my mom. Well, when you put it that way, why didn’t you just say that in the first place instead of calling me a chicken? Okay, I didn’t call her a chicken. He called me a chicken. He said I was afraid — it’s the same thing. Okay, bottom line is, I need a warrior. And you’re the toughest and smartest one I know. So what do you say? I was wondering when you’d drop by. I was hoping my sister of all people — don’t call me that. We’re not family. We never will be. You can’t deny blood. Watch me. Jason is dead because of you.

[ Inhales sharply ] Uh, the tunnel collapsed, britt. That’s not exactly in my control, you know?

[ Monitor beeping ] What about the shootout? Was that in your control? Because that’s what caused the cave-in, you dumbass. Not to mention, if it weren’t for you, we would never have been on that island. I understand — you’re — you’re hurting — you’re hurting — I — no, understand this — I am so glad I didn’t grow up with you. I am so glad I never knew we were related. Because all you do is bring pain and suffering to everyone. Most of all, maxie, whose life you’ve essentially ruined. That’s not true. Thanks to you, her daughter… um, our daughter. …Is god knows where, possibly crying or injured or scared or alone. If she’s even stil l alive. No, don’t — don’t say that. Oh, I’m sorry. Did that hurt? Is it hard to hear? Good. I didn’t know it was possible to actually despise a person. It is. I despise you. Point taken. I’ll make sure I let the authorities know. They’re still searching for the person that poisoned me.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Scoffs ] Please. If I poisoned you, I’d have gotten the dosage right, and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

[ Beeping continues ] Besides, I don’t want you dead… oh, no? …Peter. No, no. Mm. I want you rotting in some supermax prison for the rest of your life. Knowing that you will never lay eyes on your daughter. I want you alone, peter. Until you join our father in hell.

Nina’s reaction, when everything came out, she seemed genuinely upset, but maybe I’m just being naive. Is that what michael said? No, but we definitely have different opinions when it comes to nina and what, if any, her role should be in wiley’s life. I don’t know. I think you should just trust your instincts, willow. I mean, if you really believe that nina means no harm, isn’t it better for wiley to have a grandmother who loves him, than for her to just disappear?

[ Footsteps ] Wiley’s off? Yeah, yeah, he is. And he insisted on bringing his train set with him to the playdate.

[ Chuckles ] I’m so glad he likes it. So, what were you two talking about? Nina. Willow didn’t give me any details, um… …but I-I urge you to trust my daughter’s instincts, michael. Okay. I don’t mean to be disrespectful here, but, uh, how is that any of your business? So you want to team up like some dynamic father/son duo? Well, stronger together, as they say. Valentin? Excuse me. I have a meeting with my attorney. Yeah, by all means. Just think about my offer. Alright, before we discuss elq, there’s something you should know, and I want you to hear it from me. Oh, dear. That does sound ominous.

[ Exhales sharply ] I have just agreed… …to represent peter august. Hey. You again? Yeah. So, I didn’t hear any bells or whistles, so I’m going to assume that peter’s still breathing. Right? I have to get back to work. Can you just give me, like, one second here? Come sit — come sit with me for, like, one tiny little second.

[ Indistinct conversations in distance ] Do you feel better? ‘Cause I’m sitting? No, because you confronted peter. Yeah, I do.

[ Chuckles ] I could tell my words really hurt him. And… felt good to see him in pain. I totally get it. You don’t think I’m a horrible person? No, not at all. Not even a little bit. We make a great team, alexis. You know we do. The fact that I’m sitting here, a free man, says it all. Come on, just…

[Exhales sharply] …Just think about it before you say no. I will. Need you to work on her for me. Alexis: I heard that.

[ Sighs ] I’m going to take a moment, I’m going to think about it, so don’t try to talk me into anything. Okay, okay. But just listen, please. You’ve been very clear that you don’t think that you’re qualified for the job — because I’m not. Okay. But do you want the job? Tracy, have you heard about luke? We’re so sorry.

[ Whispers ] Thank you.

[ Normal voice ] I know it’s a loss for you, as well. Well, we had a whole lot of memories, but nothing compares to what the two of you shared.

[ Baby fusses ] Were you in austria when it happened? I was not. And I’m sure you can imagine how much I regret that. Ooh! Someone needs to be changed. Okay. You know what? I’m going to go with you so that my mom and tracy can talk. That’s a great idea. She smells like roses. Then what are we doing out here? Well, I-I have to tell you something, something that you’re not going to like. What? My grandmother knows that

[Sighs] Bailey isn’t mine. Felicia, is something wrong? Oh, I…I’m just worried that being around bailey might be painful for maxie. Why? Well, since her daughter’s still missing… oh, I’m so sorry. I heard about that. That must be hard on you and mac, as well. Yeah, it’s terrible. Mac and I never got to meet our granddaughter. She was taken just after maxie gave birth. Any lead on her whereabouts? No. I-I have to believe in my heart that louise will be found safe. But after seven months…

[ Crying ] Seven months? Yeah. So brook lynn and maxie’s babies are the same age? Yeah. Oh, that must make it particularly hard.

[ Sniffles ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Yeah.

Thank you. You’re welcome. This better not be decaf, oh, please, I’m not a monster. You get to go home soon, don’t you? Uh, I’m — I’m not in a rush. I don’t — don’t really have anything waiting for me at the metro court. You live in a hotel?Yeah, never have to make a bed.

[ Chuckles ] That’s true. Yeah. And to be honest, I just — I-I do better at work. My social life is… lacking. Hmm. I’ve been in port charles for like six months, and I barely know anybody outside of G.H.

[ Chuckles ] That’s funny. Why? Are you laughing at me? What’S…? No, no, it’s — it’s not. It’s just that, if you’re really lonely, I know a matchmaker. You do not. I do. No way! My mother signed me up for a matchmaking service — as a christmas present, no less. Wow, that’s — wow. Yeah, it’s pretty bad. She’s — she’s really obsessed with the “get out there and meet someone” nonsense, you know?

[ Chuckling ] Yeah.

[ Sighs ] You know what I think? What? I think that’s exactly what you should do. Yes. Everything that he just said about that invader job actually appeals to me. Except? Except I don’t know what I’m doing. Okay. That’s okay. It’s a new job. Nobody knows what they’re doing. No. You just — y-you’ll learn. Don’t be glib. I’m not, mom. When — when you boil it down, aren’t opening and closing statements just appeals for justice…

[ Chuckling ] Y-yes, but that’s entirely — …to get the jury to do the right thing? Honey, that’s in a courtroom. So? You’re an amazing public speaker. All you have to do is put it down on paper. Do you really think I can do this? I believe in you.

You need to believe in it, too. Wait, wait, wait, wait! Tracyknows that bailey is louise?! No, no, no, no, no, no, no. She just knows that bailey isn’t mine. How? I’m so sorry. But right before you and i came up with a plan, I — I told her that I’m faking my pregnancy. What? You didn’t think to tell me this until now? Oh, I’m sorry that my grandmother all the way in amsterdam knew I was faking my pregnancy.

[ Whispering ] No, I didn’t! This is bad, brook lynn. Don’t panic. Okay, it’s too late for that. What if tracy figures this out? She won’T. Why would she? No one else has. Because no one is as sneaky as tracy, or as suspicious. I remember the first time I met him.

[ Laughs ] Luke? Yeah.

[ Laughs ] Yeah. It, uh, was unforgettable. I mean… you certainly knew how to make a dramatic entrance. Like to make a splash? No one ever did it better.

[ Chuckles ] Except maybe luke did it better. Yeah, he — he certainly lived life to the fullest. He was a very loyal friend. He really helped me when — when we first thought that robin was — at that time, remember? You know… I wouldn’t have made it through that. I mean, literally.

[ Voice breaking ] We don’t get to say goodbye. No. I mean…

[Sniffles] …It doesn’t really surprise me, because luke was always on the move. You know? With no time or patience for sentimentality. On the surface, perhaps. God. I’m really gonna miss him. So am I. That’s why you were late? You were taking on a new client who absolutely deserves to be behind bars? He has a right to his defense, just like everyone else. You don’t have to be the one who provides it. How much is he paying you? Valentin, please, I have bills to pay. Mother’s care is extremely expensive. It’s not like cyrus is going to cover it anymore. I couldn’t work for months when I was in witness protection. On top of everything else, I got to pay alimony three times over. I have to go. Oh, so that’s it? I’m to be punished? You were late. I have somewhere else to be. Well, then, what about our meeting? I guess we’ll have to reschedule.

[ Elevator doors whir ] Oop! Room for one more?

[ Chuckles ]

[ Machinery whirring ] So, you, uh, given any more thought to my helping you put brook lynn in her place? Why should I work with you, victor? We have a common enemy. Brook lynn’s never done anything to you. She disrespected the cassadine name. That affects all of us, and there have to be consequences. And I want a relationship with my son. So what do you say? We work together to right this terrible wrong?

I know family is important to you, valentin, as it is to me. So let’s start acting like one, hmm? The fact is, brook lynn used you. She lied to you. I cannot believe that doesn’t make you furious. Of course I’m furious. Then accept my help.

[ Sighs ] You know where to find me. Wait. What do you have in mind? Thank you both for coming. It means a lot. Of course. I’m really so sorry about luke. And you. You are getting so big and so beautiful.

[ Laughs ] Oh, you must be over the moon.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, I really am.

[ Door closes ]

[ Cellphone rings, beeps ] Okay, tell me you have good news for me. I think so. You’ll take the job at the invader? If we are going to turn this paper into a mission for justice, I am in. Well, hot damn. Well, when can you start? Mom. You know what? I’m sorry. I-I-I overstepped. Uh, what I was just trying to express was that I trust my daughter’s judgment, michael. So do I. Which is why you’re standing in this house despite what happened with my sister. I hope that you know that, um, I’ve changed a lot since then. And all I really want is a relationship with my family, michael. For your sake, I hope that’s true. I-I’m sorry — you think I need a matchmaker? Oh, no, no, no, no. Please, no, like, 100% no. Thank god! I just…

[ Chuckles ] If you’re looking for a wingman and… I’m trying to figure out my personal life in port charles, too, so, I’m volunteering. You’re volunteering. I’m volunteering. Come on, if we’re in it together, how bad can it be? Shh, you still hungry, sweetie?

[ Baby fussing ] I thought so. Okay, I’m going to make you bottle. You watch her for a sec? Of course. Are you sure? ‘Cause I could bring her up to the nanny — oh, please.

[ Scoffs ] Brook lynn, I managed to raise your father and your uncle. I can be alone with an infant for five minutes. And just to be clear, if she needs anything, I’m calling you. Got it. [ Scoffs ]

[ Baby coos ] Well, you’ve had an interesting life so far, haven’t you, bailey? Should I call you louise?
