Liam: I know. Yeah, I know. That’s okay. Your– your memory’s a– a little fuzzy, but what’s important is that you’re safe and your family’s here.
Steffy: Family?

Liam: Yeah, you– I’m– you got me. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. Everybody here, they just want you to get better. And we’re going to do everything we can so that you can go home and you can move on with your life. Okay?
Steffy: Hmm. Go home together. The two of us. Kelly. Our daughter! I want to see her!
Brooke: So, steffy thinks liam is her husband. Like she’s gone back in time. That’s not just a memory problem.
Taylor: It’s a coping mechanism.
Brooke: Coping with what? She doesn’t even remember finn, or their child.
Taylor: Because it’s too painful for her, brooke. She doesn’t have the emotional resources to deal with finn’s death.
Sheila: I wish I could forget it.
Brooke: Look, I don’t want to interfere with steffy’s progress and her healing. It’s just that she’s calling liam her husband.
Ridge: That’s what bridget said, she’s confused.
Taylor: Yes. And she’s– she’s very fragile right now.
Brooke: Okay. So, we go on letting her believe that she is married to liam, not hope.
Ridge: I get your concern, brooke. But if steffy isn’t strong enough to deal with the situation, we need to let her heal. We need to let her do that.

Steffy: I miss her.

Hope: Did she mention finn or hayes at all?
Liam: No, nope. Nope. So, I– I don’t know. I mean, I’m just assuming it– it is what bridget and taylor said, that she’s repressing the memory of finn and everything that goes along with it.
Hope: Even their child?

Brooke: Of course steffy needs time to recover. I– I… I’m not suggesting we barge in there and tell her all about finn. That would be a disaster.
Taylor: Oh, good. I’m glad you’re not suggesting that ’cause that’s what it sounds like. Yes, it would be disastrous.
Brooke: To let her live in this delusional world doesn’t help either. What about– what about hayes? His father died. He needs his mother.
Taylor: Yes, he does. And we are doing everything that we can to make sure she gets back to him as soon as possible.
Ridge: She just woke up and she’s lost some things. Give her a chance to find them, please.
Taylor: Selective memory loss is– is a survival reaction. It helps people deal with the unthinkable. And I think on some levels, steffy knows finn died. My god, I think she might have even seen it happen. Which would explain this response.
Brooke: Okay, well, I… I– I’m just concerned about her fixation on liam.
Ridge: God, it’s nothing to do with liam. Honestly, I’m not a doctor, but it– it seems to me that this is about finn and how much she loved him.
Sheila: And she did. Deeply.
Taylor: Steffy just can’t process this right now so she’s– she blocked it all out. She had to find a– a safe place in her mind and right now, that safe place is liam.
Hope: Excuse me. Is it okay if I see her? I– I won’t stay long.
Nurse: Of course. I’ll be back soon.
Hope: Thank you. Hey, steffy.
Steffy: Hope.
Hope: It’s good to see you awake. How are you feeling?
Steffy: Better.
Hope: You gave us quite a scare there.
Steffy: You were worried?
Hope: Very. Does that surprise you?
Steffy: We don’t always get along. It’s kind of you to visit.
Hope: Bridget’s taking excellent care of you and… I’m sure you’re going to get through this.
Steffy: I just want to go home. With kelly and liam. Our little family.
Hope: Steffy, I know you have this reputation of being fearless and brave, and I just– I want you to know that it’s okay. You can be strong and still scared. But you can face this. I know– I know you can. I just have one… important thing to tell you.
Ridge: We all know that liam is married to hope.
Brooke: Steffy doesn’T.
Ridge: Oh, she will. Soon enough, but not right now.
Brooke: So, if you can be patient and just give her whatever she needs to heal, that would be great.
Sheila: Taylor, are– are you certain that she will?
Taylor: Well, her scans don’t show any significant damage, I… it looks like the– the memory loss might be psychological.
Brooke: Well, then tell me, taylor. How is living in this fantasy helping her?
Taylor: What? This is so much more complicated than a fantasy, brooke. There are real emotions involved here. That is why she sought safety with liam.
Brooke: Liam was there when she came to.
Taylor: Liam has always been there for her.
Brooke: Yes. They share a lot of history together.
Taylor: Yes, their connection is real, brooke. They have a deep, abiding love for each other. As a psychiatrist, it makes me wonder.

[ Ridge sighs ]
Hope: I know that you’re confused and things are a little foggy right now.
Steffy: Hard to remember. I’ve been trying.
Hope: So, you don’t remember anything about that night? What about before?
Steffy: I remember my home. And my family. Liam. Kelly.
Hope: Well, that’s actually what I need you to know. Your family is so much bigger than that. And you’ll never be alone. You won’T. So, you don’t need to worry, because… we’ve got your back and we’re here for you. And we’re going to help you get through this. We’re going to support you.
Steffy: I know. Liam said he won’t leave me.
Hope: Yeah. He, um– he’ll be there for you and so will I. So– we all will. And someday those memories will come back and then you can truly move on.
Steffy: I just need my little girl. And my husband. My precious family.
Kelly: Mommy!
Steffy: There she…

Taylor: It is, but it’s not random. She latched on to solace with liam.
Brooke: Taylor, I don’t know how avoiding the subject is helping. And I don’t know why that doesn’t worry you.
Taylor: Are you questioning my concern?
Brooke: No, I just don’t know why you want to leave her in the dark. Maybe she needs to be with her son. Or what about if somebody comes to visit? What are you gonna tell them? Don’t mention finn? I mean, come on. I know that you don’t want her recovery to have any setbacks, I get that. But this is crazy.
Taylor: No, this is crazy. That you’re not seeing this. We– we didn’t put any of this in steffy’s head. Steffy has– has– has blocked out all of her memories of finn and she’s turned to liam. Taking that away from her would be devastating for her recovery. It is too soon and it is too dangerous. I will not allow it.
Brooke: Don’t do this. Don’t make this an issue for us.
Taylor: I’m not the one making it an issue, brooke.
Brooke: Really? You’re not using this situation to drive a wedge between hope and liam? Because I think you are.
Steffy: I’m so glad to see you, baby girl.
Kelly: Why are you crying?
[ Liam laughs softly ]
Steffy: They’re happy tears. I missed you so much.
Liam: And kelly missed you, too. And you know what? She drew you so many pictures and wrote you letters. And we’re going to hang them up all over the house when you get home just to welcome you. And, um… um, we don’t know exactly when that’s gonna be, but hopefully– hopefully soon.
Steffy: Oh, I can’t wait to get home and see them.
Liam: Yeah. I did explain to kelly that, um, mommy does need to stay in the hospital just a little bit longer so she can rest and get better, you know?
Steffy: I feel better now with all these cuddles.
Hope: It’s definitely seemed like it’s helped your mood.
Steffy: Please, I, uh… I’d like some time alone with my daughter and my… my husband.
Hope: So, you’d like me to go?
Liam: Um, I’ll– I’ll be out there in a– in a minute.
Steffy: Thank you for being here. So nice to have my daughter by my side. To have you by my side.
Liam: There’s no place I’d rather be.
Kelly: I love you, mommy.
