He also starred as the lead villain in \u201cHush,\u201d an Emmy-winning episode of \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer,\u201d long considered a fan favorite. Doug was also a semi-regular guest judge on the hit SyFy Net reality series \u201cFace Off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2005 he played the title role of Pan (as well as the nightmare character known as The Pale Man) in Guillermo del Toro\u2019s Oscar-winning Spanish language fantasy\/horror feature \u201cPan\u2019s Labyrinth.\u201d But it was his sensitive and elegant performance as Abe Sapien in del Toro\u2019s 2004 box office hit \u201cHellboy\u201d that brought Doug\u2019s unique work to a wider audience. He went on to voice that same character for the Emmy-nominated Cartoon Network animations \u201cHellboy: Sword of Storms\u201d and \u201cHellboy: Blood and Iron.\u201d In 2007 Doug\u2019s title role performance in \u201cFantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer\u201d was hailed by fans and critics alike. 2008 saw Doug reprise his starring role (as well as two other characters) in \u201cHellboy II: The Golden Army,\u201d once more under the direction of del Toro. He appeared on the Netflix series \u201cThirteen Reasons Why\u201d and in Hulu\u2019s breakthrough GLAAD Award-winning original animated kids\u2019 series \u201cThe Bravest Knight.\u201d He is also the executive producer of the critically lauded docuseries called \u201cVisible: Out On Television\u201d airing on Apple TV+.<\/p>\n<p>In 1994 Cruz won the hearts of audiences across the world and forever changed the LBGT landscape playing the first openly gay teenager on network television in his award-winning performance as Rickie Vasquez on the hit ABC series \u201cMy So Called Life\u201d. Del Barrio was in their final year of studies at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) when they auditioned for and booked the role of Adira.
