[ Sighs ] Hey, Valentin?

Robert: Diane?

Diane: Robert.

Robert: Judge bonds isn’t here?

Diane: Proving that his disregard for punctuality remains unchanged.

Robert: [ Sighs ] Damn it.

Diane: His clerk said he would be in soon.

Robert: Define “soon.”

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Robert: So, how was the car show?

Anna: What was so urgent that your lawyer came over in the middle of the night? Oh, perfect.

Olivia: Hey. What are you doing?

Ned: I’m eating your lasagna from last night.

Olivia: No, no, what are you doing eating it cold? You’re going to get a stomach ache.

Ned: No, no, no, no, no. I like it like this — vintage.

Olivia: Vintage? Lasagna?

Ned: Well, not vintage. More like rock ‘n’ roll, you know? Late nights, music till dawn, cold lasagna.

Olivia: Right, right. Up all night, bar crawling, too wasted to put it in the oven.

Ned: Exactly.

Olivia: Okay, well, except for that, you got a working oven and someone that’s perfectly happy to heat it up for you, okay?

Ned: No. No, no, no. I’m not going to let you do that. You’re too busy. Besides, I really like it like this. And I’m used to it, eating on the go — cold and quick.

Olivia: Okay, okay. It’s not going to happen on my watch. You’re not eating cold lasagna for breakfast. Just let me make you a frittata.

Ned: No, no. Okay, I’ll make you a deal. How about warm lasagna?

Josslyn: Hello.

Carly: Hey. You’re up early.

Josslyn: I am going to the pool. Unless you need help at Kelly’s. I can totally cancel.

Carly: No, I told you, Pete’s opening up. Go have fun.

Josslyn: I’m not going to have fun.

Carly: Sounds like you want to cancel.

Josslyn: Well, I am going to be binging “Gray’s Anatomy” all day, not the show, but the book. I wish it was the show.

Carly: Oh, your semester’s starting soon, huh?

Josslyn: Yes. So soon. Too soon. Summer flew by. I have a mountain of things that I should have done over break.

Carly: You say that every year, and then you ace all your tests and tell me how interesting your classes are.

Josslyn: I know, I know, and they’re interesting. It’s just so much to remember. And then life happens, and I get distracted.

Carly: Life’s always happening.

Josslyn: I know. I have to stop delaying. I’m trying to remember that “tough times don’t last, but tough people do.”

Carly: That’s right. Mom’s Aunt Ruby. That’s what she used to say.

Josslyn: Mm-hmm. Okay, well, if you need me, call me, text me. I will be in mental boot camp.

Carly: Keep your phone on.

Josslyn: Okay.

Carly: [ Sighs ] Alright.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Carly: Hello.

Woman: Collect call from Pentonville Penitentiary. Will you accept the charges?

Carly: Absolutely.

[ Beep ]

[ Lock beeps ]

Anna: Hi. [ Sighs ]

Betty: Mason, I already got you the goods. Why do I have to keep up this nanny act? Yeah, yeah. Okay. But it’ll cost ya. Hey, listen, Taffy, um, I am just arriving at work, but you should definitely see the dry cleaners. We’ll talk later.

Gabe: Morning.

Betty: Angora. It’s her own fault, really. You should never dry-clean angora.

Gabe: You’re telling me.

Sonny: [ Chuckles ] Thanks, Brick. Just stay in touch, will ya? Yeah.

[ Knock on door ]

Sonny: Got to go. Bye.

Betty: Good morning, Mr. Corinthos.

Sonny: Hi, Betty. Come on in. I don’t want to be disturbed.

Gabe: Copy that.

Betty: Is Avery ready to go?

Sonny: You’re not getting anywhere near Avery.

Drew: Carly?

Carly: Yes, Drew, it’s me. You’re out of solitary?

Drew: Yeah.

Carly: Thank god.

Drew: I was starting to go crazy in there.

Carly: Sam told me she brought Scout to see you.

Drew: I know. I know. I heard.

Carly: I can’t believe they turned Scout away.

Drew: I’m so sorry that I couldn’t let anybody know.

Carly: That’s okay. That’s okay. Don’t worry about me. I’m just so glad you got out sooner.

Drew: Sooner? How did you know how long it was supposed to be? Carly, what did you do?

Betty: What’s wrong? Why don’t you want me near Avery?

Sonny: Isn’t it obvious? Avery’s sick. I’d hate for you to catch it.

[ Both chuckle ]

Betty: Oh, Mr. Corinthos, that’s, um, so considerate of you. Aw, I was really looking forward to seeing her today. I hope she feels better, the poor little cupcake. Well, just text me when you need me again.

Sonny: Betty. Here’s a little something, even, uh… a little extra for you.

Betty: Oh, my gosh. Thank you so much.

Sonny: Hey. Goodbye, Betty.

Betty: Bye.

Sonny: Dex. You know what to do.

[ Door closes ]

Ned: This is actually a pretty nice spread you have here.

Olivia: Yeah, that’s putting it mildly.

Ned: You know, the kid is always going on about horses and bugs. He was telling me about some spotted lanternfly that’s invading New York.

Olivia: Yes, I hear about it every day. Leo is on the patrol.

Ned: [ Chuckles ] He’s a good kid. He wants me to teach him how to play the banjo.

Olivia: You play the banjo?

Ned: Not in the slightest.

Olivia: [ Chuckles ]

Ned: You know what? This is good.

Olivia: Yeah?

Ned: I have to admit, lasagna is definitely better warmed up.

Olivia: Want the extra parmesan?

Ned: No. No, no, no, no, no. I hate that. It’s like putting a sax solo on a punk-rock song. It just doesn’t fit.

Olivia: It’s weird. Ned always loved it.

Ned: I’m not Ned.

Olivia: I know. Sorry.

Ned: Forget it.

Olivia: So, late night, huh?

Ned: Busted.

Olivia: Must’ve been quite a party. [ Chuckles ] Guess I wasn’t aware that Port Charles had such a vibrant after-hours scene.

Ned: No, it was up to me to create my own party scene.

Olivia: Did you meet any, uh, interesting party animals?

Diane: Well, thank you for asking, Robert. The car show was wonderful. Just row upon row of the most exquisite new vehicles. I felt like I’d stepped into the future.

Robert: [ Chuckles ] Hm. So, uh… what was your favorite?

Diane: Oh, how can you even ask me that with so many — so many amazing models to choose from? All the chrome was buffed to a near-mirror-like perfection. All the new leather interiors and the reliable engines. There were some electric vehicles, gorgeous colors. All in all, a wonderful time was had.

Robert: Alexis enjoy it?

Diane: Alexis?

Robert: Yeah, you took her.

Diane: I remember. Oh, right. No, no, no. Right, right. Well, after you expressed little — well, no interest, I did ask Alexis, yes, and she could not go, so I took Chris.

Robert: Chris?

Diane: Mm-hmm. Chris Simmons.

Robert: Uh, did — did he — she e-enjoy the car show?

Diane: Very much so. Almost as much as me.

Robert: Where the hell’s that judge?

Anna: I was going to text you, but I-I can’t find my phone.

Valentin: Wouldn’t be this phone, would it?

Anna: Oh, yeah. Yeah, that’s — [ chuckles ] I — sorry, when I woke up, I was really disoriented. I didn’t know where I was. And you weren’t here. Um, where did you go?

Valentin: I was at ELQ. I, uh… I noticed they’re still not up and running thanks to the water damage for the servers.

Anna: How is that?

Valentin: I’m sure it’ll be fixed soon. Ned Quartermaine’s not really acting like himself these days, so I have to stop by and keep the ship afloat.

Anna: Right, right. I feel very sorry for Olivia, everyone over there, because it’s — it’s so unsettling when someone you know is acting strangely.

Valentin: I’m sure it is. I haven’t had a lot of time to talk to the Quartermaines.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Anna: Oh, is that ELQ?

Valentin: Yeah. But don’t worry. I’ll let it go to voicemail. What can I do for you?

Anna: Well, you can help me find out who is literally trying to destroy my life… and why.

Anna: Someone out there is trying to kill me or at least destabilize me so much that I take my eye off the ball.

Valentin: Well, listen, I would like nothing more than to smoke them out and…

Anna: What?

Valentin: ….Strangle a confession from them.

Anna: Wow. Really? Smoke them out?

Valentin: That was a poor choice of words. My point is, I don’t think that it’s the appropriate course of action.

Anna: Y-you’re not?

Valentin: You and I both know that we’re dealing with a professional. This was a professional job.

Anna: Okay, so we just drop it? We just ignore the fact that there was a public shooting and that my life went up in flames?

Valentin: No. Of course not. We’re dealing with people who can cover their tracks.

Anna: Mm. And we have experience in that department, too.

Valentin: I will continue to make inquiries of my sources, but we need to prepare ourselves that there are not going to be any easy answers.

Anna: I have to have a shower. I got to go to my lawyer and then insurance company. Got to put what’s left of my life back together, you know?

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Robert: The judge is taking his sweet time.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Robert: Yeah, Scorpio. What? When? No, of course I know nothing about it. What? Well, no, I’m in the judge’s office, waiting for him to get back. Yeah. I’m on my way.

Diane: Is there a fire that needs putting out in the D.A.’s office?

Robert: Fire’s been put out. Destroyed a life, though.

Carly: I didn’t do anything.

Drew: Meaning?

Carly: Sonny did. I didn’t ask him to, but I’m so glad he did.

Drew: Well, he, uh — he did say that he was going to do whatever he could for me while I was inside.

Carly: Are you okay?

Drew: Carly, I’m fine. The other guy? Not so much.

Carly: What? Why? What happened?

Drew: Nothing I can’t handle. Don’t worry.

Carly: Does this have anything to do with you being put in solitary confinement?

Drew: [ Sighs ] I got into it with a guy who was giving another inmate a hard time. I couldn’t just stand by and watch it happen. Okay?

Carly: [ Sighs ] You don’t have to protect everyone, Drew. Who was this inmate that you helped?

Drew: Cyrus Renault.

Betty: [ Sighs ]

Pool attendant: Would you like something from the brunch menu?

Betty: I’ll have the American breakfast with extra bacon. And I mean extra bacon. Rye toast.

Pool attendant: Alright.

Betty: Hey, I’m not done. Bring me a Bloody Mary, but forget the horseradish. Got it?

Pool attendant: Yes.

Josslyn: Drinking on the job? Or were you fired already?

Betty: Your sister’s sick, so back off.

Josslyn: Oh, it looks like I touched a nerve. Instead of Mary Poppins, I’m going to call you Bloody Mary. Hey, what are you doing here? I thought you were wor–

Sonny: Ava, can I just talk? Avery’s with me. She’s not going to be with Betty today. She is fine. Now, listen to me, okay? We already set the trap. We just have to spring it, and then we’re going to get the answers we need.

Ned: No party animals. Uh, unless you count Tracy.

Olivia: Tracy?

Ned: Yeah, she was here, doing a preemptive hangover strike with water and ibuprofen.

Olivia: Oh.

Ned: Definitely had a few too many. No, the real party was me and the old six-string in the solarium. Great acoustics in there.

Olivia: Acoustics? So what exactly were you and your six-string doing up in the solarium, hmm?

Ned: I was writing a song.

Olivia: So you do write your own songs?

Ned: Oh, yeah, yeah. You got to write your own material if you really want to stand out.

Olivia: Music’s a tough business.

Ned: Yes, it is. But I have help.

Olivia: Ah?

Ned: You might say a muse.

Olivia: A muse. So what is this — this, uh, muse? A magical spirit that whispers sweet lyrics into your ear or something?

Ned: [ Chuckles ] Sort of. Although, my muse is a little more earthly. Ever hear of Elvis Presley?

Olivia: “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” Elvis Pre– yes, yes, I’ve heard of him. That’s your muse?

Ned: The one and only.

[ Both laugh ]

Ned: Well, let’s just say he inspires me.

Olivia: Okay.

Ned: And music… music, it’s the fire in my belly. It’s the spark in my soul.

Olivia: It really is everything to you, isn’t it?

Ned: Yeah. Makes me who I am.

Olivia: So, you and your guitar in the solarium with the ghost of Elvis.

Ned: Just us and the spirits.

Olivia: [ Chuckles ] That sounds like a hell of an audience.

Ned: I can think of better. So what do you say? Do you want to hear what I’ve written so far?

Olivia: You mean…

Ned: Do you want to hear my song?

Olivia: I would love to.

Ned: Alright. Just give me a sec. I’ll go get my guitar.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Diane: Robert, I can’t even imagine what Anna’s going through.

Robert: She’s been through so much. First, the exposé with The Bureau and now this.

Diane: Do they have any idea what caused it?

Robert: Arson. Look, I’ve got to go see her. When Bonds gets here, tell him I’ll send my A.D.A. over to handle it all.

Anna: Valentin, do you have any scissors? Please… [ Sighs ] [ Sighs ]

Valentin: I assume this is important if you’re willing to risk meeting in your home.

Sonny: Yes, it is important. That message you had Anna deliver — what was that about?

Carly: Cyrus Renault? Why would you help him?

Drew: Carly, I-I did what I had to do. Let’s not get into this now, okay? I — I only have a little bit of time left on this call. I don’t want to waste it on him. I’m way more interested in you. You okay?

Carly: I miss you. But I’m fine.

Drew: You don’t sound fine.

Carly: I’m just so glad you’re out of solitary confinement.

Drew: Hey, um, Carly, my, uh — my time’s up.

Carly: [ Sighs ] Okay. I love you.

Drew: I love you, too. Hey, if you can, come and see me today, okay? I really miss you.

Carly: I’ll be there. I promise.

Drew: Okay, bye.

Carly: Bye.

Betty: [ Scoffs ] Get a room.

Dex: Sorry I’m late.

Josslyn: It’s fine. Um, I was just stu–

Dex: Waiting on me, like usual. Sorry. Traffic was a nightmare.

Josslyn: Um, okay, well, now that you’re here, you can help me learn about muscles for my anatomy course.

Dex: Gladly.

Drew: Come on, man. Come on. Don’t do this, Cyrus. Fight!

Cyrus: Drew Cain. We meet again.

Olivia: That sounds exhausting, and I hope that you are taking care of yourself.

Monica: Oh, don’t worry about me. It’s a lot less stressful than dealing with Tracy. Is she behaving?

Olivia: Barely. And I wish you were here to referee.

Monica: You don’t need me for that. You’ve got Brook Lynn, and she’s the best Tracy wrangler, by far. Hey, listen, I’m really calling because I wanted to check in on you and see how things were with Ned.

Olivia: You mean Eddie?

Ned: Ready to serenade you.

Monica: Still? I know I’ve only been gone a week, but I really hoped for some progress. None?

Olivia: Nope.

Monica: I’m sorry. How is it going? Are you okay?

Olivia: I’m okay. Actually… things are going alright.

[ Anna sighs ]

Anna: [ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Robert: Anna, are you there?

Anna: Oh!

Robert: I’m sorry I didn’t get here any sooner. I heard about the fire. Is it arson?

Anna: [ Sniffles ] It’s all gone.

Robert: The house is completely destroyed?

Anna: Mm. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it doesn’t matter. It’s just a house and clothes and furniture. [ Sniffles ] It’s, like, memories and things that I really wanted to hold on to forever, from Robin and Emma and, like, photographs and [sighs] This little thing that Noah had made me out of driftwood. It was just so beautiful, and now it’s gone. Oh, God, it’s all just gone.

Valentin: Sonny, I have an acquaintance who used to work at Pikeman who gave me the heads up that there may be some personnel changes coming. I thought that was information I should pass along to you.

Sonny: Heads-up? What does that mean? Is there trouble in the Pikeman organization?

Valentin: No.

Sonny: No? Are you sure about that? Huh?

Valentin: Maybe.

Sonny: What are you not telling me?

Valentin: Listen, trouble or no, it doesn’t change the fact that there are elements in the Pikeman organization that are frustrated with your lack of cooperation.

Sonny: My lack of cooperation? You know what? You can tell your friend to tell Pikeman to take their frustration and shove it. I told them months ago that I’m not going to lift a finger until they give me answers on the warehouse shooting.

Valentin: Maybe they don’t have answers. This is a big deal. I don’t think they’re going to tank it by withholding information.

Sonny: Well, you seem to have a lot of insight into Pikeman. Are you — are you working for them?

Valentin: No.

Sonny: Maybe I should just call this off.

Valentin: Sonny, you can’t do that.

Sonny: Watch me.

Carly: Hey. How bad is it?

Diane: Why do you assume I only bring bad news?

Carly: ‘Cause you’re a lawyer.

Cyrus: They let you out.

Drew: They did.

Cyrus: I’m sorry. Solitary can be, for most, unbearable, but you seem to have survived unscathed.

Drew: Do I?

Cyrus: My experiences there have brought me closer to God.

Drew: Really? Mine brought me closer to insanity.

Cyrus: But now you’re out.

Drew: And you’re alive. And you look well.

Cyrus: You know, the heart attack was just a divine reminder that we have far less control over our lives than we think.

Drew: Certainly true in this place.

Cyrus: Oh, that’s true everywhere. But a warrior like you, Drew, seldom accepts such a notion. You live in the realm of strategy and calculated risks in order to navigate the chaos of war.

Drew: The war is over, Cyrus. You lost.

Cyrus: [ Chuckles ] The war is never over, Mr. Cain. I will never forget what you did for me. I owe you my life.

Betty: The eggs were cold. Oh, and bring me another Bloody Mary.

Pool attendant: Right away.

Josslyn: Another drink, and it’s not even lunch. Maybe it’s a good thing Avery’s sick — if she even is sick.

Dex: You know, all these diagrams make me even more appreciative of the human body. I mean, what a work of art.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Betty: Damned Mason. Yeah?

Dex: Hey, would you mind switching seats? Um, I could really use some sun.

Betty: Okay, okay, okay. I got it. I got it. I understand.

Monica: Goodbye, Olivia. I love you. Take care.

Olivia: I love you, too, Monica. Take care.

[ Beep ]

Olivia: Oh, I’m worried about her. She’s pushing herself too hard, doing all these trips for the hospital. I just wish she’d stop trying to save the day for once.

Ned: Sounds like you.

Olivia: Me? What do you mean?

Ned: I watch you. You do everything for everybody. You work at The Metro Court. You’re dealing with Leo. You’re dodging Tracy and Brook Lynn when they’re fighting. And, off course, you’re, uh, you know, dealing with me.

Olivia: You’re all worth it. So, about that song?

Robert: Do you suppose whoever started the fire knew that you were out?

Anna: I don’t know. I mean, I can’t really speculate on their motives at all. I have to concentrate on getting my life back together. You know, I was on my way to the lawyer.

Robert: And insurance.

Anna: Mm.

Robert: Would it help if I came with you?

Anna: Maybe. You know… all the policy numbers are up in the cloud, wherever that is, and so I’m just going to let them handle it, and I do have something far more important that I have to do.

Robert: What can I do to help?

Anna: I have to talk to Robin, you know? Would you stay with me while I — while I tell her what happened?

Robert: Yeah.

Josslyn: Bye, Betty. Okay, so what the hell’s going on?

Dex: No time. Best to just trust me, okay?

Josslyn: Dex.

Dex: I love you. I’ll call you.

Carly: Are you sure nothing’s wrong?

Diane: Carly, I will have you know, not every visit from your lawyer spells disaster.

Carly: What are you talking about? It’s in your job description. You’re the carrier of bad news. Sometimes it’s good news, but most of the time it’s bad news.

Diane: Touché.

Carly: And you don’t usually visit me unless there’s a crisis.

Diane: Well, that is one of life’s great shames.

Carly: Well, I’ll rephrase that. Unless there’s a crisis with me.

Diane: Am I that transparent?

Carly: You wouldn’t win a game of legal poker right now.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] No, I’m sorry. I should not be bothering you with this. You’ve got —

Carly: Stop, stop. You’re my lawyer, but you’re also my friend, so whatever’s going on, I can use a distraction. So spit it out.

Diane: Okay. You’re going to charge me for this, aren’t you?

Carly: Oh, yeah.

Sonny: Why is it so important to you that I keep this deal?

Valentin: It’s not important to me, but it’s obviously important to Pikeman, and it was important to you at one time.

Sonny: Times change.

Valentin: Okay, but what hasn’t changed is the nature of the people we are dealing with. Pikeman is a ruthless organization that has infiltrated multiple institutions and governments. I’m looking out for you here.

Sonny: Well, thank you. I appreciate that. But next time you want to look out for me or give me a heads-up, deliver it yourself.

Valentin: Sonny, don’t provoke these people, please.

Sonny: You don’t have to worry about me, Valentin. I can take care of myself. I’m a big boy. Unless you know something that I should be aware of.

Valentin: No.

Sonny: Didn’t think so. Go ahead. Go ahead and go.

Ned: It’s only a work in progress.

Olivia: I’m not judging you, Eddie. And, plus, if you can make any sense of what’s written there, I will be very impressed.

Ned: I got lost in a storm on a boat with no oar on a sea where I never had been found my way to the shore not the same as before now I’m here in the in-between and when the clouds broke alive, I awoke to a misty world, like a dream but I’m fighting the smoke I could swear that she spoke who’s that spirit guiding me? The siren waits for me I think I hear her calling she whispers so silently the siren I can’t see she’s like a shadow following me or a distant memory

Olivia: Wait, wait, why did you stop?

Ned: That’s all I have.

Olivia: So — so you never find out who she is? You never see the siren?

Ned: Well, I don’t know. I haven’t figured out how to finish it. I’m not even sure if I can.

Olivia: I think you can, Eddie. I think — I think that you will finish this when the time is exactly right. Keep working on it. Please. It’s beautiful. And thank you for sharing that with me.

Diane: So, of course, after Robert blew me off for Holly, I tried to be friends.

Carly: Just friends?

Diane: Yes, just friends. Because I wanted to maintain an air of civility, to sort of take the high road. But then Robert starts acting all knight in shining armor. He’s very chivalrous, very solicitous, gallant.

Carly: It’s nice to have someone in your corner.

Diane: Is it? I mean, Carly, it’s been so many years since Max and I were together, I have forgotten how all of this works.

Carly: [ Chuckling ] Come on. Diane, it’s like riding a bike. You just jump back on.

[ Both chuckle ]

Diane: Okay, well, I’m afraid I’m going to jump back on the bike, and then Robert’s going to put on the hand brake and send me flying into a ditch.

Carly: Oh. Well, there is that.

Diane: Oh, I see you’ve been there.

Carly: Oh, yeah. I got a whole bunch of T-shirts. You want one?

[ Both laugh ]

Diane: No, I’m trying not to give it too much weight.

Carly: [ Sighs ] Gosh. Men are complicated. But so are women. But you know what it boils down to? If Robert can’t see the amazing, accomplished, incredible woman standing right in front of him, to hell with him.

Diane: It’s not really the answer I was looking for.

Dex: Yeah, she’s in the nail salon. Hasn’t met with anyone all day, but she did get a phone call she didn’t seem too happy about.

Sonny: Forget about her. She’s just going to lead us in circles. We’ll have Gabe tail her. That way — just as a precaution. I want you to follow someone else, someone we have to pay close attention to.

Valentin: Okay, I tried to tell you rushing things was a mistake. Now we’re going to pay for it.

Anna: Bye, darling. I love you so much. Bye, Robin.

Robert: Bye, sweetheart.

Anna: [ Sighs ]

Robert: She’s worried.

Anna: Oh, god. Don’t make this worse.

Robert: [ Chuckles ] Come on. This is our daughter. She sees right through us. She knows when we’re in danger. And, oh, by the way, we’re in danger quite a lot. But she accepts that. She’s as strong as you are.

Anna: I don’t know how far this goes, Robert.

Robert: Well, what do you want to do next?

Anna: I’m not going to go out to see her. I’m not taking whatever danger I’m in out to her. No, that’s not going to happen.

Robert: [ Sighs ]

Anna: I-I have to figure out who is after me… …and then piece together what’s left of my life. Which includes figuring out who I can and cannot trust.

Drew: You owe me nothing.

Cyrus: Oh, but I do. I owe you everything, my friend.

Drew: We are not friends.

Cyrus: [ Chuckles ] As God as my witness, I will find a way to repay you.
