And now it’s back to regular life. And I actually do have some errands that I need to run before I knock out. I think I will add one of my favorite pastries to my caffeine.

Sharon: Oh, you know what? My pastry delivery is late this morning, so it’s slim pickings.

Elena: Oh, no. I guess I will have to figure out a way to carry on.

Noah: Dig deep. Find that strength.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] I will. I will figure out my breakfast plan. It was good seeing you both. I’ll talk to you later.

Sharon: I promise I will have a pastry with your name on it tomorrow.

Elena: Oh, thank you.

Noah: I’m assuming she’s a regular?

Sharon: Yeah. She lives here. I mean literally lives here, up in the apartment. She used to be lola’s roommate before lola left for miami.

Noah: Huh. I — I guess I just assumed that she lived with nate. But I get couples wanting to keep separate places. Some people need that distance.

Sharon: Is that just a general observation, or are you referring to what happened in london?

Noah: It was just a thought, mom. Alright? Don’t worry.

Sharon: The way you keep trying to avoid the subject makes me think otherwise. So, how worried should I be?

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: So, you have time for coffee with jack, but you don’t have time for us to talk things out. And tonight’s winning numbers are 18,

Phyllis: Okay.

[ Sighs ] Listen. I was just a little frustrated and angry to deal with you earlier, and I just thought that jack could bring me down a notch. That’s all.

[ Sighs ]

Nick: Yeah. You needed to see jack because, uh, you were angry about my text.

Phyllis: Okay, it wasn’t just the text. It was the argument that we had yesterday. That’s what it was about. And I went to all this trouble to get a bunch of stuff and create, like, a romantic dinner, and, you know — which is why i just drank a bunch of champagne in my room alone.

[ Sighs ]

Nick: But I canceled, so in a way, it is about the text.

Phyllis: Okay, it’s about the text. It’s about — and I know that overindulging in my room was a mistake. I know that.

Nick: I’m not judging.

Phyllis: Really? That’s shocking because you usually would. That’s why I felt the need to criticize myself before you had a chance to.

Nick: I’m sorry if I made you feel like that. That was not my intention.

Phyllis: Okay. I believe you. Listen, I’m just, um — I’m hurt and angry and… I don’t know what’s going on with us. We are so out of sync.

Nick: Well, I do know us not talking to each other is just making the problem worse.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I just needed to take a second. I needed some space before I say the wrong thing. You know what I’m saying. You understand that, right?

Nick: Yes. I get it. I think both of us have let our emotions get the better of us, which hasn’t helped matters. So, let me just say this, and then I’ll take off. You got nothing to be scared of.

Phyllis: I’m a bigger mess than I was before. Can we get out of here, please?

Jack: You don’t have to ask a second time.

Noah: You are determined to get this story out of me, aren’t you?

Sharon: Well, not if you really don’t want to talk about it. But you already sort of admitted between the lines that there was a problem back in london. Your dad and I just want to know what’s going on. You never complained of being unhappy, and this sudden decision to come back to genoa city is a little jarring. Though we’re thrilled to have you here as long as you want stay.

Noah: Okay. I — I was in a relationship. It was kind of a serious one — for me, at least. And…I just — I ended up getting my heart broken.

Sharon: I’m sorry.

Noah: Yeah. Me too. I promise everything’s gonna be okay. I hope you understand why I’d like to just leave at that and not go on a deep dive into my love life with my mom.

Sharon: I won’t pry about that anymore.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: But can I ask, um — is your relationship ending the only reason why you wanted to leave england?

Noah: No. I was serious when I said I was feeling like I was stuck in a rut, and both professionally and artistically, I — I just needed a change, and I think coming home was the right move.

Sharon: I’m just glad you’re here.

Nate: I’m more than willing to look into this other treatment and share my opinion. But I still think your oncologist is probably the best source for advice about potential next steps.

Victoria: Well, we’re not actually happy with the doctor. He’s not really keeping an open mind about other options, and he’s not listening to ashland’s needs and his concerns.

Ashland: Yeah, nate, I don’t want to waste any more of my time and energy trying to convince this man to listen to me.

Nate: Okay. I understand. Sometimes a doctor isn’t a good fit for a patient. And it’s always good to get a second and perhaps third opinion.

Ashland: I appreciate that, nate. And I deeply appreciate your support and friendship, as well.

Nate: Always happy to help. Well, go ahead and e-mail the information about the peruvian treatment, and I will get back to you.

Victoria: Will do.

Ashland: And, nate —

Nate: I know. I know. As soon as possible.

Victoria: We’re trying to remain realistic about this, but we’re hoping that you’ll have some good news for us.

Nate: Me too.

[ Sighs ] I just heard something amazing!

Phyllis: Mmm. The fall air. I love it. I love the company, too.

Jack: I’m happy to provide it.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry. I keep on dumping all of my stuff on you. It must be déj vu for you.

Jack: No, it doesn’t feel like that at all, and I don’t want you feeling bad for turning to a friend, no matter what the problem is. So, what happened last night?

Phyllis: After I spoke to you, I went back to the place, and I set everything up, you know, very romantic, the whole shebang, right? And I got a text from nick saying that he had to stay home with christian. And I get that. Christian comes first. I mean, but I just wonder if it was even true.

Jack: Well, do you really think he would use his son as an excuse not to talk to you?

Phyllis: I don’t know anymore. I don’T. I just know he’s going through a lot of turmoil with his family, and that turmoil seems to be bringing out issues in our relationship.

Jack: Can you articulate those issues — not to me — to nick and to yourself and, more importantly, to each other?

Phyllis: No. I don’t even know what they are. Honestly. I’m so irritated. And I know that nick was as frustrated with me as I was with him yesterday. But then he shows up this morning like, “no problem. Let’s talk. It was just a bump in the road.” But it’s not a bump in the road. We’re not okay. And — and I just had to get out of there.

Jack: Okay, but if nick is talking like things will be okay…

Phyllis: I’m not okay. I’m not. I don’t live in denial. You know that. I don’t know what’s happening with us, but none of it is alright.

Sharon: Well, if you’re at loose ends, you could always work here. And I’ve heard that deep-cleaning an espresso machine is a great way to get out of an artistic rut.

Noah: Why do I feel like I’m being conned?

[ Both laugh ]

Nick: It’s nice to see you two having fun.

Noah: You okay?

Nick: Yeah. Why?

Noah: Doesn’t seem like it. Have things gotten worse between you and victoria?

Nick: [ Sighs ] I’ve not seen vick since she and ashland got home from tuscany.

Sharon: Well, I spoke to billY. Now I understand ashland has, a much darker past than I had realized.

Nick: I don’t want to get into the details, but there’s been a line drawn in the sand in this family, and dad, vick, and adam are one side, and I am firmly on the other. And mom, as usual, is somewhere in the middle, trying to bridge the gap.

Sharon: Really? That’s a shame. Things seemed to be going so well between you and your family.

Noah: Well, if there’s anything I can do to help, I will. And I know grandma will, too.

Sharon: And I’m here for you, too.

Noah: And no doubt phyllis has got your back.

Nick: Yeah. You would think.

Sharon: What does that mean?

Nick: Phyllis and I are just not in a good place right now.

Noah: Really? It seemed like you guys were all good in italy.

Nick: We spent most of that trip kind of sniping at each other. I don’t know if it was me taking my frustrations out with the family on her, if I was hiding behind my anger for dad and just kind of ignoring the problems that have been ongoing with us, but — I don’t know, man — things just keep getting more tense, and it’s frustrating ’cause every time we talk, it’s like I take one step forward and then six steps back. And…It’s unsettling ’cause, before then, I thought we were really solid.

Noah: Yeah, you know, it’s — it’s a weird feeling when you think everything’s okay… and then suddenly it’s not.

Nick: Hmm. You say that like you know the feeling.

Noah: I experienced something similar recently. I was just telling mom that things haven’t been great for me in the romance department back in london. That’s part of the reason i decided to come back home.

Nick: You running from a break-up?

Noah: Nah, I — I wouldn’t say that. I just — I wanted to be around my familY. It’s nice to be surrounded by the ones who love you the most, especially when you feel like your relationship’s going completely off the rails. Not to say that you and phyllis are completely derailing or anything. It seems like you guys are just hitting some rough waters. I’m sure you’re both strong enough to find your way through.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] You’re awfully quiet.

Sharon: Hmm? Well, what do you expect me to say?

Victoria: I am just so relieved that nate agreed to help us. Although I’m not surprised. You know, it’s really nice having a friend who also happens to be a brilliant doctor.

Ashland: Yes.

Victoria: Ashland. What is it?

Ashland: Nate didn’t seem very enthusiastic about the experimental treatment.

Victoria: Well, how could he be? He doesn’t know much about it. We just — we need to be patient.

Ashland: You know, before i decided to seek treatment, I was at peace with my fate.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes, I know. It took a lot of persuading on my part to get you to change your mind about fighting this disease.

Ashland: And I’m so glad that I did. And now that we’re married, i hate the idea of giving up anD…not being with you. What if this is a battle I can’t win? Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Elena: Hey, you.

Nate: Hey. How you doing? And how are you still upright? I figured you would have crawled in bed by now.

Elena: Yeah, that’s next on my agenda. But I was starving. Hence, the detour. I wish I’d know you were coming here. I could have joined you.

Elena: I knew you were busy. I got your message that you were gonna be seeing victoria and ashland. How are they? Are they still floating on air post-wedding?

Nate: Not exactly. Turns out ashland’s protocol isn’t working as well as he and victoria had hoped. So they’re interested in a new treatment, and they want me to take a look into it for them.

Elena: Are you worried about what you might find?

Nate: Yeah. This isn’t a typical medical consult. Ashland’s not even my patient. He’s a friend. I’m personally invested in what happens to victoria and ashland, so I can’t maintain the usual degree of professional distance. And…it would be a lot easier if I could. What if I can’t tell them what they’re hoping to hear?

Ashland: You know, for a while, I was so swept up in all the wedding plans and praying that you would forgive me for my sins and hoping that gaines wouldn’t ruin the day. And I’m so grateful that everything worked out, and i couldn’t be more thrilled that you and I are married.

Victoria: I am, too. And I meant every word of my vows. We’re in this together.

Ashland: Yeah, but after receiving these test results, I… just the harsh reality of the situation is staring me in the face. And none of my power or money or influence can get me out of this, and I’m running out of options. I mean, maybe nothing has worked yet because there’s nothing that will work.

Victoria: No. I refuse to accept that. Look, I know that you’re feeling shaken because of the test results, but you’re not looking and thinking about the statistics here. There are people who — after having received the right treatment, they’ve bought themselves more time. Some of them have even beaten it. That — that could happen.

Ashland: You know, for the first time since I decided to fight this, I’m actually scared because the odds are not in my favor.

Victoria: Well, since when have you ever cared about the odds when you want something? You’ve beaten the odds your entire life. I know you’ve been through some rough times, but it’s only made you stronger. You said you were gonna fight this, so you better damn well fight it.

Ashland: Nobody has ever had as much faith in me as you do.

Victoria: Well, look, I know that you’re gonna have some vulnerable moments. But if you’re weak, then — then let me be strong for both of us. We’ve come this far. I mean, we’ve overcome so much. We can’t give up on our future.

Ashland: [ Breathes deeply ]

Sharon: Every relationship has its issues. You know, rey and I have certainly had ours. But, you know, we’ve worked on them, and we continue to do so. So, that’s just part of any successful relationship.

Nick: Hmm. Well, what do you think about me and phyllis specifically?

Sharon: I think, uh, communication is the key.

Nick: I bet she got that off a bumper sticker, don’t you?

Noah: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: Look, um, I don’t know what you want from me. I — the last time we talked about this, I told you I just want you to be happy but you thought that I was saying you were settling, and i never uttered those words.

Nick: It was unfair of me to jump to that conclusion.

Sharon: Okay, well, I want to admit that I’m a little biased when it comes to you and phyllis, so I’m probably not the best person to ask.

Nick: Yeah. Sorry to put you in this awkward position. I’m just dealing with a lot right now. Kind of been bottling it up inside, and the person I always talk to about things like that is victoria. And that door is currently closed. You know, I had the best intentions when it came to her. And she doesn’t understand why i did it or where I was coming from. She doesn’t appreciate it, and now there’s this giant wall between us, just like there is between me and phyllis. Really starting to wonder if I’m the problem.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Phyllis: Nick is going through so much with his family. You know, I can’t win. He doesn’t want to hear the truth.

Jack: Well, maybe — just maybe — your truth isn’t the same as nick’s truth.

Phyllis: What does that mean?

Jack: Okay, for example — and I’m going back a bit — when things got ugly with your own father, you cut all ties with him. You ran away from your family.

Phyllis: Are you serious right now, bringing up my own father? Really? I-I left the family because my father was a criminal. He was a horrible man. He stole from the elderly to make a profit.

Jack: I understand that. But maybe, deep down inside, you wish nick would make the same decision you’ve made, when you know he won’t, when history has proven he can’T.

Phyllis: Okay, well, our situations are different.

Jack: I get that. But maybe you’re holding nick’s decision against him because he didn’t make the same one you’ve made.

Phyllis: Okay. Um, are you saying that I’m responsible for this? Yawns “okay okay, I’m up, I’m up!”

Elena: I love how much you care about the people in your life, but whatever happens to ashland isn’t on you. They asked you to help them because they knew that you could give it to them straight, as a friend. They’re not expecting you to perform any miracles.

Nate: I wish I had the power to save ashland.

Elena: All you have to do is read the studies on the protocols and give them the facts. That way, they can make an informed decision. I think you can do that without any regrets or guilt.

Nate: That’s why I’m grateful to be with someone who gets it.

Elena: Yes. I speak doctor.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Yawns ] Mnh. Excuse me. Sorry. This girl hasn’t slept in a long time.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: But that didn’t have anything to do with you or what we were talking about. I didn’t mean to ruin the moment.

Nate: You didn’T. But I’m worried you’re about to fall asleep on this couch.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: How about I take you home and tuck you in?

Elena: Yes. I would love that. Thank you.

Ashland: Okay, message received. When victoria newman orders you to fight, you fight.

Victoria: Very good. Other.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] There’s really no reason for any negativity when we have so much reason to have hope.

Victoria: Yeah. That’s right. I believe in the power of hope. A positive mental outlook. I know it’s probably not gonna cure the cancer, but you never know how your attitude might change things.

Ashland: Well…

Victoria: It’s better than the alternative, you know?

Ashland: If nate thinks that this new treatment and the protocol is worthwhile, then, uh, it gives us another reason to be optimistic.

Victoria: Yes.

Ashland: But that also means that if I do decide on this treatment, I might have to jump right into it, which means your plans for a private island getaway would fly right out the window.

Victoria: Well, if they do, they do. I’m not gonna worry about that right now.

Ashland: You’re being very practical, but you’re also a new bride who deserves a beautiful honeymoon. And I was really looking forward to shutting out the world and just being newlyweds for a while.

Victoria: Well…that is a lovely thought, but I really don’t care about the honeymoon. I just want you to get better. And we are not gonna let anything stand in the way of that.

Jack: I am not laying the blame at your feet. Look, there are complicated dynamics involved where you and nick are concerned. Anytime you bring up the newman family drama, it’s bound to stir up…intense emotions in both of you. I’m sure nick would agree that he hasn’t exactly been his best in this situation.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And?

Jack: And…in the many years I have known you, I have noticed that when things aren’t going the way you want them to be on a personal front, when your back is up, when you are insecure about your ability to salvage the situation, you tend to look for an exit strategy.

Phyllis: Are you saying that I blow up my relationships instead of seeing if they can work out? Are you saying that I’m my own worst enemy?

Jack: I would hate to see you fall victim to a self-fulfilling prophecy. Phyllis, you and nick have been through so much. And yet you are perpetually drawn back together. There’s a reason for that.

Phyllis: Yeah. And there’s a reason why things don’t work out.

Noah: It seems like the situation with victoria is filled with emotional land mines, but there is no way that you are single-handedly responsible for what’s going on. I’m sure you two can work it out ’cause at the end of the day, you’re brother and sister. We’re all family until we die.

Nick: A blessing and a curse.

Noah: We didn’t ask to be born newmans, but it’s what we are.

Nick: You’re damn right we are.

Noah: And as for phyllis, i think you should try to get down to the root of the problem and fix things as soon as you can, you know, before it gets worse.

Nick: When did this kid get so smart?

Sharon: Well, he takes after me.

Nick: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: It’s just my two cents.

Nick: I, uh — I appreciate it. Um, it’s not quite as simple as you make it sound. You know, phyllis and I have got a very long, rocky past. We’ve hurt each other a lot. I can’t ignore the fact that history could repeat itself.

Noah: It will if you allow those thoughts to take over. Don’t let it be a self-fulfilling prophecy. You can either turn yourself into a victim, or you can fight for what you want, no matter how hard it is. It’s up to you.

Nick: Man, you got to take it easy on your old man.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Oh, I hear you, son. Yeah, I believe in what phyllis and I have. Even though I can feel her pulling away, I can’t let that get in my head. I got to make her understand what we have is worth fighting for. And you know what? I’m gonna start right now. See you guys later.

Sharon: See you.

Do I need to pretreat my

laundry?

Nate: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Ashland: Excuse me. It’s nate. Hey, buddy. I’m here with victoria, and I’m gonna put you on speakerphone, okay?

Victoria: Hey, nate. Um, so, what is your take on the information we sent you?

Nate: There has been some promising research about the experimental treatment you found. But I would say it’s still a last resort. Chances of improvement remain slim. I understand this is not what you want to hear.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Yeah, well, we know it’s a long shot, but, uh, I’m willing to do or try anything.

Sharon: You know, I was really impressed with you earlier. That advice you gave your dad — it was spot on.

Noah: For real?

Sharon: Yeah. I’m all for taking control of your life and finding your happiness.

Noah: Mom, I know you have to walk a fine line when you’re talking to dad about these things. But you know you can be honest with me, right? What do you really think about him and phyllis?

Sharon: I want what’s best for your father. I mean that.

Noah: And?

Sharon: And I will never believe that phyllis is what’s best for him.

Noah: What? You — you don’t think they can make it in the long run, even after all they’ve been through?

Sharon: [ Breathes deeply ] I take no pleasure in saying this, but I think that relationship is ready to fall off a cliff. It’s only a question of when.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Back to the Y&R Transcripts Page

Back to the Main Daytime Transcripts Page

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-1056557952271337"
     data-ad-slot="8801203268"
     data-ad-format="auto"
     data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Young & The Restless Transcript Transcript provided by Suzanne With my boyfriend.
